Road. In the distance you see Police Investigators are out there, crime scene tape up and the body remains in the park well. Police have closed off a portion of the park as well as inunder lane and boxer boulevard which is closer to the clayton side of the park. Police got the call of a female body floating in the duck pond of newhall park at about 2 35 this morning. When they arrived they found the womens body floating near the edge. Its unclear how this woman died. A lot of questions as to how old she was, where she was from, and even her identity. We did speak with a gardner earlier this morning who works in the area and he said the park has been a trouble spot for quite some time. I am working couple, three years here and i never see that. Somebody killed. Reporter now, concord polices major Investigations Detectives remain on the scene collecting evidence. When we arrived, though, they told us that there was not an active search for a suspect. But as we take it back out here live, this remains an active investigation. So that could change. A portion of the park near the duck pond remains closed off. The rest of the park is open. Indian lane and boxer boulevard near closer to the investigation on the other side of the park is closed off this morning. The body remains here. So the coroner has yet to arrive. San jose 70s to maybe near 80 degrees and even warmer tuesday, wednesday. But then we turn it right around and will plunge towards thursday, friday, and into the upcoming weekend. Near 90 by wednesday. Thunder and lightning . That is possible to weekend. Thank you. Tomorrow the San Jose City council is going to consider banning nonessential travel to north carolina. Many say the laws are discriminatory against people based on their sexual orientation. Supporters say the ban on travel and business would send a strong message that discrimination inform i kind will not be tolerated. President ial opponents say it would be difficult to enforce. Development in San Franciscos Mission bay is booming, and now city leaders are pushing for more transit options in that neighborhood. The San Francisco examiner reports port of San Francisco officials are looking at developing a new Ferry Terminal in that area. There are three possible terminal locations. The prime candidate is agua vista park. Another on south street between piers 54 and 64, although Stormy Weather would bring higher waves. The northside of pier 54 is also being considered, but its farthest away from mission bay and could require a seismic retrofit. The new terminal proposal allows for two ferries and could include a water taxi landing nearby. Its expected to cost more than 32 million. A major road in san leandro is closed as Police Investigate a shooting last night. Ktvus alex savidge has more. Reporter this investigation has closed down east 14th street in both directions between 136th avenue and 138th avenue. It could be closed until about 10 00 this morning. Police are still here. They are gathering evidence at this scene of this homicide that happened last night. The shooting victim was found just outside of the citys Senior Community center, which is down east 14th on the right hand side of the street. Now, that man was ult thely pronounced ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. This investigation first began when San Leandro Police got 911 calls about gunfire in this area. And when officers got here they discovered a car that had crashed into a minivan. But the people in that minivan were nowhere to be found and while investigating the accident officers were told there was a man nearby who had been shot. He was found right outside of that Senior Center where there was a private function going on at the time. Now, a witness who didnt want to show her face told us she did hear the gunfire. We heard shots and then all of a sudden we seen in the windows and then like everybody was police are investigating whether the shooting is relayed to the crash that happened related to the crash that happened last night. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and looking through Surveillance Video from nearby in the hopes of identifying the shooter. Police say the motive for the killing at this point is unclear. But this Homicide Investigation has shut down east 14th street between 136th and 138th avenue, and this roadway will likely remain closed until about 10 00 this morning. Coming up here within the next hour, San Leandro Police are scheduled to hold a News Conference to offer more details on this investigation. We will, of course, bring you coverage of that News Conference when it happens. Well send it back to you. The san leandro is planning to hold a News Conference this morning at 9 30. Security had to remove them. 30 minutes ago at the white house president obama awarded the medal of valor to 13 Law Enforcement officers, including four from here in california. Three Santa Monica Police officers were honored for risking their lives to save students and staff during a shooting on the campus of san leandro Monica College in 2013. They shot and killed the gunman when he pointed his assault at them. And a Los Angeles Police officer was honored. He wasnt even on duty when he crossed two freeway dividers to pull an unconscious man from a burning car. A political rematch of sorts. Megyn kelly has a oneonone interview with donald trump. A story that has a lot of us talking a Southern California tv meteorologist was surprised when she was asked to change how she looked during saturday mornings forecast. Watch. Whats going on . You want me to put this on . You see one of the anchors handed her a grey cardigan in the middle of her forecast and tells her to put it on. The anchor says that we are getting a lot of emails about her dress. Apparently, several viewers were saying she looked like she was wearing a cocktail dress to work. Now other viewers are complaining on social media about the fact that the station essentially made her cover up and gave her that sweater in the middle of her forecast. All right. We have checked out the story a little bit more. According to chan, she was wearing Something Else when she arrived at work, but what she brought didnt really work with the green screen. The green screen is what a lot of the meteorologists stand of in front of the forecast. She changed to that outfit. She says she wasnt offended by it. The video and story has been dubbed sweatergate with some people criticized ktla and others to say it was a joke to make fun of the people complaining about the dress. It seems like a lot of the media give short shrift to the sharks and more coverage to the warriors. Thats great. Of course, its gonna get a little bit of hype for sure. We dont have a steph curry guy thats branded in the league, the face of the sharks. Cant do nothing about that. We have to worry about what we can on the ice and care about ourselves. Any time you put a lot of work in, you want acknowledgment of your craft. And i would say just because maybe were taking some headlines or whatever, it doesnt take anything away. Joining us this morning sports analyst matt, last night i said the giants win three world series. The warriors win last year. They look up to these teams and they want to win in the bay area. Yeah. We were talking about hockey. I think youre talking about a Smaller Group of fans. They are probably more hardcore than nba or baseball or football fans. In essence, hockey in the west coast is a niche sport. In the northeast, its a little bit different. But the sharks have been probably the bay areas most successful pro franchise in the last 12, 15 years. They are perennially in the playoffs. Thats one reason this year they are capturing the imagination of fans because the expectations were low this season. This is one of the few seasons that there werent expectations on the sharks. You know, i think one of the reasons maybe that the warriors are getting so much attention is because the warriors before last season, and, you know, a couple seasons ago were a joke in the nba. Yeah. A bigger difference . Yeah, there is a lot of reasons i think the warriors have reached the heights they have. I think curry has a lot do with it. He is the most marketable star in the nba. The drought certainly in terms of winning a championship. It had been 40 years. The laughing stock. I think the fans, the warriors fans who are such a big part of the team, is another reason that this group has elevated itself. And also many people think its the most Exciting Team not just now, but in nba history. So the warriors are tough to compete against right now. No doubt about it. So the first state wins in the playoffs, next will be tougher. What do you think about going into the Oklahoma City series . Well, i think you know how warriors fans were sensitive about fans saying they were lucky last year because they skipped the hard matchups . They are not going to be able to that i this year. Oklahoma city beat the spurs. Oklahoma city is a very good team. What we are looking at is the warriors likely facing the cleveland cavaliers. If you run the gamut of portland and then Oklahoma City and cleveland, thats about as tough as it gets in this day and age of the nba. So if the warriors win it again, there is not going to be any sour grapes. Is going to be physical . I think its going to be somewhat physical because they have a big front line. But its also going to be up and down. I think were looking at the most exciting series in all of the playoffs in Oklahoma City and the warriors. Warriors cannot afford to look past okc . Absolutely not. They have two players, kevin durrant, russell westbrook, who are superstars and they are capable of carrying that team. The warriors are the better team. Here are some of the top stories we are following. There is a fence around a san jose business that caught fire last night. The Auto Repair Shop caught fire. The shop owner was working on a car and had stepped away. He heard the car owner yelling and saw flames shooting out of the car. Both escaped harm, but the shop was badly damaged. Investigators were not surprised the flames spread quick. In any repair garage you have gasoline. Youre going to have diesel fuel. You are going to have motor oil. Solvents, brake fluid, all of those are flammable or combustible liquids and they will accelerate the fire. Now, there were fears the fire might spread to an apartment complex nearby or that the repair shop might even collapse down onto the apartments. So the apartments were evacuated. The car was being repaired for a fuel leak and investigators say thats probably how the fire started. Well, later today a group that wants to increase californias cigarette tax will officially announce it has reached a milestone. That group, which includes doctors and a billionaire environmentalist, will today say they have collected enough signatures on a petition to put a 2 per pack tax increase on the november ballot. The group says raising the sales tax could discourage young people from smoking and also encourage smokers to quit. The secretary of state still has to first verify those signatures. A fairfield couple on vacation in maine rescued a family of five and a man with special needs in a river. Todd buckley and Denise Burnham were flying over the river when they saw a man sinking in a paddle boat. The couple asked a family in a nearby boat to help him out. That second boat tried to tow the paddle boat back to shore but it was too heavy. Both boats capsized leaving all six people in the batter. Thats when buckley jumped into the river to rescue them and burnham called 911. I used the float and i pushed that out to him. Had him get on that. And i pulled him off into the shore. It was just so important that the people got out of the water as quickly as possible because it was so cold. Everyone made it out of the river safely. The couple said they happened to be in the right place at the right time. A California Group is providing a real day at the beach for children and young adults who have special needs. The parents say this is the first time my kids been a kid at the beach. Thats the founder of the best day foundation. His group takes the children surfing, kayaking and teaches them to test their personal limits along the Santa Barbara coastline. Parents say time on the water is one of the few times their children feel normal and interact with the instructors and other boys and girls. Volunteers say the smiles on the faces of the children are great and they say the joy they feel being with them is indescribable. And tim wilson said disrespectful. If there was a legit concern about her attire, it should have been addressed off camera. Just knowing how ktla is, you know, they do joke around a lot. So sometimes jokes are funny, you know. You guys have been on tv for a long time. Right. We are joking around and sometimes you dont think that someones joke youre doing is going to offend someone and it does. My roommate was down there. He texted me this morning about it. He said he heard about it. He said he was embarrassed for her. It wasnt revealing. Some get away with that more than other markets across the country. The initial question is, is the dress appropriate for, you know, being a meteorologist on a morning show . You said you wouldnt wear it, right . I have very different standards. And i think the only person who should weigh in on whether or not that dress is appropriate is the person wearing it and station management. End of story. Its not for me to tell pam cook looks good on pam cook or not. Its up to me to decide that for myself. You look great. Pam, i know you have a serious story about long lines at the airport to go to. There is a lot of talk about it. I think women face nor scrutiny man men. Unfortunately, we are on tv and people think thats open game to comment about how we look. You look fabulous. Highfive to my girl. Thank you i can leave if you want. No, no, you stay. Now to your story. Crazy lines at the airport . Yeah, its really, really bad. Its all about the security. Some airports, including chicagos ohare this morning, tsa lines taking two hours to get through because of the shortage of tsa screeners. Right now as we talked about, in addition to the regular business travelers, there are a lot of people heading to graduations, weddings, end of year events, but fewer people to get them through security. Airlines say they are trying to hold planes at the gates in some cases if a lot of passengers are stuck in line. The government says it has a plan but it hasnt been more specific. Jay johnson says whatever the plan is, quote, our job is to keep the American People safe. Now, we are out at the Oakland Airport this morning to check in on the lines there. We found some pretty unhappy people. I have never seen it like this before. I know they have problems in chicago at the airport. So hopefully i dont miss my flight. It used to be like this several years ago. But then it seemed to be good. Now its bad again. In the past three years, the tsa and congress cut the number of frontline screeners by 4600, which is about ten percent. Anticipating a lot of people would sign up and pay for the precheck status. Not as many people enrolled. Airlines are expecting a Record Number of people flying this summer. Thats why the situation could get worse. One thing Homeland Security is working on, trying to get the airlines to enforce limits on carryon bags. As we know, many people tend to overpack the carryon bags so they dont have to pay for the checked bags. Some government leaders say, hey, maybe the airlines should cut those fees. Perhaps maybe for the summer to try to speed things up. How many times do i sit on my carryon . I know. I have no foot room because i have all the stuff shoved underneath. They say get there early. It doesnt help. You know why . Other flights are using tsa and they are in a big line. You cant get there earlier than the ticket booth opens. Thats true. Super early, you can maybe. But then we talked about, you know, you have kids youre traveling with. You have car seats and things and bags and you have to take off your jacket and your shoes and your computer and invariably the three people ahead of you dont know that, right . So theyre sitting there. Also, we did the math real quick on mornings on 2. If you are going to go to l. A. This summer, do you drive . Do you fly . Timewise, its almost the same. It is. All those hours at the airport rather than getting in the car and shooting down i5. You park your car, public transportation, you get through security, checked bags, youre halfway there. Thats a long drive. Really . You love looking at the planes at the airport as you wait for two hours. He is flying. I am driving. You leave at 2 a. M. , you put in a movie later. The good old days. Thank you. New developments in a pretty strange story about a swarm of killer bees in one east bay neighborhood. Concord police say most of the bees are gone. Over the weekend they sent out a warm of a large swarm of aggressive bees attacking people and animals. An amateur beekeeper noticed a different type of bee in his backyard and was attacked. The experts put out a temporary hive with bait to destroy the bees. Neighbors say the plan seems to be working. There were a few. Like there is one right there. But there is not enough bees to bother anybody. Nobodys been stung that i know of. Reporter police say most of the bees are gone and just a few of them are confined to one yard. The bees are expected to be africanized bees. Several bay area schools are embracing president obamas challenge to make Community College free. Inside bay area reports more than a dozen colleges are offering several tuition free options as well as lower costs and scholarships. It reports that oaklands mayor is pushing for an initiative to provide a free semester of college for New High School graduates. There are colleges in richmond, slayer, saratoga and san bruno offering options. A new restaurant is reversing its noreservations policy. See, beginning today all the tables there will be reservation only. The restaurant says it realized its guests had been waiting several hours to be seated and many had to be turned away. Now, this move is temporary, but the restaurant is not saying yet just how long it will be reservation only. Now, 105th annual bay to breakers race sprinted to another great year without any major problems. There were 40,000 runners or so. Probably a lot more sore feet and legs today. The first across the starting line were the super speedsters. They made it in less than 45 minutes. For others t about competing with friends. We are running a race. Slash is in the comics. Is there a superman . [ laughter ] no comment. How do you run in that . The runners say the hey street hill is the toughest part. I agree having done that race once. Those who slowed down for the hill say it was worth it and nearly all the runners we talked with say they are already looking forward to next year. It seems as if it wasnt quite as bad as it was last year. Getting back to the serious runners. The mens winner was isaac mukindi. The winner for the women was Jana Katsuyama who ran it in 40 minutes and 47 seconds. Both more than minute slower than course records. Reporter i think it gets an a. It was pretty tame. I mean, its been kind of getting less and less over the years. Its getting toned down more now that they are telling everybody not to imbibe alcohol. This year there were 23 arrests. Five were for public intoxication. 13 were for traffic citations. We do know there was one medical ten medical calls and one of those was for a dog who was locked inside of a hot car. All in all, pretty good. I watched some of the coverage. This morning Veterinary Technology students from Carrington College in san leandro are getting some hands on training with large animals. During this mornings lab at stewart ranch, students are taking vital signs on a horse, including temperature and pulse. They are also learning to apply bandages, take blood, and perform xrays. I think you get a lot of learning experience like where to stick a horse, how to do temperature, pulse, and respiration. Carrington is very great at getting you with handson experience. When it was time tore me to hang up my for me to hang up my basketball shoes, food was that transition of getting out of the funk of leaving it alone and starting a new life. In a previous interview you said that you think the food network might need a rebranding of sorts and you are the man . Absolutely. You are the face of the new what makes you think you could be the rebranding of food network . I am a little bit of everything. I am a big happy guy. I love people. But i love food. And every dish that i make, can you see that. You can see both. I like making dishes that bring people together. You enjoy it, you talk, laugh, and eat again. You were selling chicken dinners out of your dorm room. Lets start with waffles. I see more than waffles on the plate. And it smells delicious. I have sticky bun waffles with cream cheese frosting. Its light. They are fluffy. And theyre filling at the same time. So they are delicious. Good for the kids, mom, dad. Everybody to enjoy. And what about this . And this is my rainbow Turkey Sausage frittata. Its packed full of beautiful red onions, red asparagus, peppers, and its tossed with a roasted pepper salsa to balance it out. A little richness. I will be the judge of that. While sal does the tasting, a lot of people think they can cook. Cooking in your kitchen at home and presenting it on tv two completely different things. Absolutely. Whats the hardest part about what you are doing . I guess the timeframe. We are given 30 seconds to present it and we have to tie in how we feel about the food, why we came up with the dish, why do we cook. You get stumbled over your words. Do you find you are a natural on tv . You have to speak in soundbites, right . I used to be nervous to speak in front of people. I took a public speaking class in college and realized i like it. For me i talk to myself a lot in the mirror. So im used to doing the monologues. Its fun. Its nice for San Francisco. Such a food town, right . Absolutely. To have a representative such as you. Talk to me about the fact you are in the mission. Are there a lot of influencees in in your neighborhood . Your mom and sister and grandma are big in your life . Absolutely. My sister pushed me in that direction. My mom and grandmother showed me what loving food is. And moving to the mission, the food culture there is immense. Its all different types of foods. I like the fusion of things. I like to bring in. My wife is salvadorian. I like to take a little bit of that. Thats great. Okay. Sal is salvadorian. There we go, baby. Right now the Amusement Park by the beach is part of a nationwide contest by usa today to name the best boardwalk in the country. And we have to win this one. Lifeguards rushing to help her. This happened yesterday afternoon in boca raton. The woman came out of the ocean with that nurse shark hanging on to her arm. The woman remained calm while the crews put a splint under her arm and shark and took off to the hospital. That would freak me out a little bit. A lot. Some Wendys Restaurants will use selfserve kiosks. It will help offset the cost of minimum wage hikes across the country. The company says the kiosks will be available at all of the franchises, but it will be up to individual restaurants to decide whether or not to use them.
