When it all started there were 10 items for the older students. This year, 21 items are packed in those backpacks. The kids are pretty happy, too. Yes. Our friends from the oakland zoo are here, up next, a unique animal, a desert tortoise. It is going to showcase his talent here. Yes. And there is also a big celebration they will talk about. So stay with us. Well be right back. Oh, baby it is a wild world. That is cat cat stevens. It is a wild word. It is hard to say that. A little gray out there. Each month we bring some of the wildlife from the oakland zoo to our home in the oakland studio. And joining us in the studio, is katie from the oakland zoo. Who is that over there, rose mary . Oh, hello. Isnt he the cutest . His name is is nemo but he doesnt go in the water and in fact a desert tortoise. You just read an interesting tidbit. He can survive in temperatures exceeding 140 degrees. Is this true . It is very interesting about the disert tortoise, yes, they live in the desert but when it gets to the hot high temperatures, he actually wilbur row in the sand. And you said dont get near his mouth because he has a little bake. Turtles and tortoises dont have a regular mouth with teeth and they have a beak more like a bird and when are you feeting him, you got to be careful because the beak will really hurt your finger. He is adorable. He is adorable. And something super cool about desert tortoises, it is the california state reptile. The Mojave Desert . The desert all around california. Anywhere around there. He will live in the desert. And what is sad, is he is endangered. This type of tortoise is endangered and because of people. And the habitat lost, fragmentation of the habitat, when we build roads, and a lot of times, people will be going through the desert and they might see this guy and they might want to take a selfie and leave him there, and which is great but dont take him with you. And they will pick them up to take a selfie and they expel their water to defend themselves. And when there is barely any water in the desert, and they may not get enough to replenish themselves and they can die from dehydration. How old is this little guy . 32 years old. A lot of people think he is a baby. He is a young man. And how long whirl he live to be . These how long will he live to be . They could live 50 years depending how well they can live in the desert and how well they are taken care of. And they can get water from plants and not lakes obviously. And before we move on, what can people do when they are in a desert and come across a tortoise. Great question. Leave it alone. Do not take pictures with it. They are actually illegal to touch anyways. Dont go and touch them. If you see it on the road, avoid it at all costs. Also, dont litter. Pick up your trash. Dont leave any trash anywhere around the desert. Because that trash will then bring in other animals, like crows and ravens that are not typically found in the desert, and when they come over, they find these bitesized baby tortoises and they eat them up like candy. Oh, my goodness. Dont disturb them in the desert. Come see them at the zoo. Lion appreciation day. And pack up the kids and the car and headed to zoo. Special enrichment for the lions. We will have a raffle. And one of the prizes is behind the scene with the lions. Super exciting. And we will have tables with our Conservation Partners to learn a lot about big cat conservation. Oh, my goodness. Thats all good stuff there. How big is the area for the lions and is there a better time, do they like to nap in the afternoon . What is a good time to come out . Great question. Right now we have a coalition. Which means we have a group of males. Three young males so a lot of times lions will sleep during the day. But these guys are up most of the time. They are playing with their enrichment and playing with their toys. I cant tell you a perfect time to go. Just come and i am sure you will get lucky. And thank you very much for coming in. And thank you, nemo. We were going to nickname him crush. Yes. Crush. Claudine said wait a minute, what was the tortoises name in nemo . There you go. There is a look at the information for you, if youre out there for the weekend. Or open until 4 00 this afternoon. And there are the prices for you as well. I will send it back to you guys. Can i just say that when this segment started, i did not think little nemo would be able to get all of those flowers. Because he was grasping at air. He has done really well. Look at that. Yes. He is going to suck on that one, now. He is like do i have food . Do i have food in my teeth . I think thats slow motion, where it was invented with turtles. So neat. Dont get in his way. He has a beak. Yes. That one is good. That is good. Keep him around. I love him. Uhoh. All right. One more bite. And talk about the warriors now. We have moved on. Warriors looking for some of the bay areas best dancers to join their dance team. The open audition is held this morning in walnut creek. And walnut creek creek, the warriors say they look for talented dancers and entertainers with energetic personalities that join the dance team and become ambassadors for the warriors. The auditions start at 11 00 this morning from the ultimate field house on mitchell drive in walnut creek. And Registration Opens up at 10 00. If you have what it takes, go check it out. 49ers open the preseason and they did something they havent done, they didnt do a lot of last year. They won. They won. Yes. We are so excited. Yes, they did. Although they need a little work still. Doesnt everybody . They beat the chiefs in kansas city by 10 and not easy to do at areahead even during the preseason. And mark barkley, out of usc. Played well. Here, finding robertson, who lets it fly. For a good 65 yards. And that led to a field goal to make it 76. Chiefs by one. And williams, seven carious. Carries. And carious. Niners down 179. They go nuts in the third quarter. And kendrick born, wide receiver. He could walk in for six. Niners get out of kansas city with a win 2717. And next up preseason game number two, they play denver, or host denver, rather, on saturday night. Lets talk raiders. Because the raiders play the first preseason game tonight. Against the Arizona Cardinals. And you can catch that game, right here on ktvu fox 2. That starts at 7 00. And of course, we will have a complete recap of that game tonight. On the ktvu 10 00 news. Certainly people are very excited. What would you do if you won the lotto . I was asking that. I cant even conceive of having that much money. I am going on a shopping spree. I know that. What would you do if you hit the Lottery Jackpot . We will tell you. Because coming up, shortly, we will have an expert in here, a financial expert, that is going to give you kind of the guidelines on what you might want to do to safeguard all of that money, because the powerball is up, pushing 400 million right now. If only. Dont tell anyone. Well be right back. Back now at 8 52, two lakes in the east bay, closed because of toxic algae, both set to reopen. The one in oakland has been closed to swimmers since late june and corey lake in fremont is shut down for swimmers since early february. East bay Regional Park says recent tests show toxic algae levels have gone down at both lakes. They hope the lakes will stay open the rest of the summer. Starting today, the Mountain ViewCommunity Center will be closed for renovations and thats going to be for several months. The city says the center on the avenue is going to be expanded to 28,000 square feet. Crews are adding new multipurpose rooms and replacing aging Plumbing Systems and beautifying that building. Homefront festival, at the park, at the end of marina way south, also in richmond. You dont have to wait for the eclipse for a great show in the sky. This weekend, you can watch the perseid meteor shower, in our skies. Astronomers are predicting meteors at a slightly higher rate than normal. About 150 per hour. And the bright moon is expected to wash out most of the smaller perseids. So viewing rates will be more like 30 to 40 meteors per hour. The shower happens annually. When the earth passes through remnants of the comet. And the best way to catch a glimpse is get away from the city lights and put your head to the sky. Nine days away now, the Solar Eclipse is getting closer, if you cant head outside to watch, dont worry, we got you covered here, ktvu will have special coverage that begins 9 00 in the morning on august 21. So there will be a lot of stories on the eclipse and one thing to talk about, we know the path of totality and we know youre heading up to oregon. Up to oregon. On a plane and kind of follow it in. Off the coast of gluers off the coast of oregon. But the one thing we cannot control is the weather. This is like the fireworks forecast. You could be in the best spot and in the path of totality and you could be under a cloud and it is done. If you really, really want to see it, maybe think about going to antioch. It is that possibility, right . If we have low clouds to start the morning, when were expected to see it, we are not going to see it. Because we will not see the sun. So we will be tracking it for you. Again, we have several days to go. And as you know, that cloud coverage has been pretty stubborn lately. Giving you a look here at where it is at the moment, along the coast. Inside the bay, stretching all the way inland. South bay. East bay and north bay this morning. The onshore breeze remains with us. And we are going to continue in this pattern for your bay area weekend. Here is a look at the future cast. When it comes to the cloud cover, by about noontime, or so, it is going to pull back and we will be partly to mostly sunny away from the coast. If youre going to be at the coastline for today, you may see a bit of late day clearing, right in there, right around Stinson Beach. But we could be partly cloudy for most of the day. Mostly cloudy for areas like ocean beach. And Golden Gate Park. And pacifica, Half Moon Bay. If youre going out to outside lands, expect it to be cool and breezy for the afternoon. And meanwhile, if you go a little bit farther south, areas like santa cruz expected to have partly cloudy to mostly clear skies for the afternoon. As we get into the evening hours, moving back across the bay, and start over again tomorrow morning and the patch of blue indicating the drizzle. Drizzle out there this morning. And likely to have it again for tonight. A look at the temperatures right now, 55 degrees in San Francisco. And around the bay, low 60s. Palo alto, 63 for you good morning. And 62 in livermore and 60 in napa. Afternoon highs a lot like yesterday. Cooler for some. And 83 for sonoma. And 69 in sausalito. And 90 degrees in brentwood. And south bay, a 79 in san jose. And 86 in morgan hill. Where we continue to watch the fire there. And as firefighters continue to get it under control there. And 72 in san mateo. And 66 in San Francisco. And tahoe, nice and 40s to start the morning. Low 80s for the afternoon. Under mostly sunny skies. And no thunderstorms in the forecast. And here is a look at the extended forecast. Not much change for the back end of your weekend. But we even go cooler on monday. With temperatures for the inland cities only hitting about 80 degrees. It is a one day event. We will begin to rebound on tuesday. It always changes. Thank you, rosemary. All right. Cal fire battling flames in two bay area counties this morning. We are going to have the latest numbers, from both fires. We will also have a live report from the one in the south bay. Stay with us. Well be right back. It is almost like they can hear the music. They are kind of grooving to it. Yes. And good morning to you. Taking a live look this morning, at craneway pavilion. Getting all of their supplies. This is rosy the riveter. A great look back at the history. Absolutely. World war ii. Yes. Women played a role there. And rosy the riveter. Yes. And joining us in on the fun, too. That is fantastic. A lot of events out there today. Welcome to mornings on 2. And it is saturday, august 12. Im claudine wong. Happy weekend, everyone. Im frank mallicoat. More on the weather coming up. But first a few headlines in the news. Firefighter continues down in the south bay, firefighters are working to contain a blaze that kicked off in morgan hill. But it has been a big night overnight. We have some good new numbers. We also are going to update you on that fire that is burning in napa county. And here is a question. Did you buy a Lottery Ticket . Well, we know there is a winner in the Mega Millions lottery. Yes, if you got family in illinois, ring them up. Because somebody went away with a lot of dough. Powerball though, that one is still up for grabs and we are going to, just for fun, have a financial expert in the studio with us. Just in case you happen to pick the winning numbers tonight. And what you need to know, to do with all of that cash. And outside lands is under way in San Francisco. That means the streets in and around Golden Gate Park are going to be packed. Yup. We will have more on the festival, and what you need to know, if you are headed there. Or youre just trying to get around it. But first, lets go to rosemary for a check of the forecast. I see sweatshirts and the best outfit i have seen, i think, very San Francisco, shorts and a big sweatshirt. Yes. Absolutely. A little warm. And maybe shorts with the tights underneath. You definitely have to plan to layer up. Layer up. If not, bring a jacket. We are going to have School Conditions out there for today. Cool conditions out there for today. Cloudy start. Cloudy finish. The low 60s for afternoon high. And gray skies here am and gray all the way inland and past livermore this morning for the east bay and for the north bay, it is wide spread as well. And here is a view over areas along the east bay shore. Where areas are right around emeryville, and berkeley, and oakland, starting out, at about 60 degrees, and San Francisco, 65. And farther north, we have 55 degrees outside your door. And santa rosa and in south bay. We have 63 san jose. And livermore, at 62. And here is a view. The cloud cover. Beginning to thin out just some. Over the Higher Elevations and we will continue to watch this pull back. And move on. As we get into the second part of your morning, early afternoon, and i do expect we will be mostly sunny, away from the coastline, and once again, for today, a lot like where we have been. And the onshore breeze, right about 21 miles an hour. And not going away. In fact, expected to increase a little bit, as we get into the days ahead, perhaps as early as tonight. Here is a look at the outside lands forecast. Golden gate park, stuck under the low clouds. Perhaps a little bit of drizzle out there. 56 degrees right now. And as we get into the afternoon, upper 50s by 11 00, and low 60s for the second half of the day. And upper 50s, slipping into the evening hours around 8 00 or so. And a bit cool out hire. And temperatures around out here. Temperatures around the bay area, a bit cool around the area. And a look at the neighborhood and how long it is expected to last coming up. And thanks, rose mary. 9 03 on the clock. Cal fire crews kept the wildfire from spreading across the area west of morgan hill. A lot of progress there. And that fire is 70 contained. And Ktvu Leigh Martinez is in morgan hill with an update this morning. Leigh, good morning. Reporter good morning, well, a number of fire crews had already left this morning. There is just a small number of crews out here now and we hear an electric saw going. It is kind of hard to see the firefighters out there. Buried in the trees out there. Cal fire says the cooler temperatures definitely helped them make a lot of progress last night. Luckily the fire was on a rural hillside. Opposite of the houses that sit on the other side of hail avenue. Now, no homes or structures were ever threatened. And the brush fire dubbed the tilton fire, started at 3 00 yesterday afternoon. And mostly burning on the eastern slope, near hail and tilton avenues. And it grew to 100 acres. And was only about 5 contained last night. But overnight, the forward progress of the fire was halted. And it is now at 70 contained. Now, if youre taking a live look back out here, we just have two fire trucks out here. We saw quite a number of cal fire trucks leave the area. We are told that they are going to have just a few crews, remaining out here today. We asked them how long they plan to stay out here and they said at this point, they do not know. They said there is a chance that locals will see smoke still, and might smell some smoke, but rest assured they do have this fire pretty much contained at this point. And that there is nothing really to be concerned about right now. Back to you guys. Well, that is good news. Wildfire season, this is just part of all of it. Thank you is so much, leigh. We appreciate the update. Thank you, leigh. Cal fire crews are working in the north bay in napa county where flames have burned 114 acres and threatening structures there. There are no mandatory evacuation orders. But there is an evacuation warning in place near turtle rock. That one is being called the canyon fire because it started by sage canyon road on the is southwest side of Lake Berryessa. As you can see the report from last night says 25 containment. So far, we are expecting an update from cal fire, soon, because there is enough daylight to safely send up a plane to look at some of the burnt area. Both of these wildfires started yesterday and grew quickly, over 100 acres burned. Yes, rosemary is here with a look at how todays weather might impact fire crews ability to make more progress. Yes. So the weather pattern, not so bad. But we are well into summer now. And we havent had rain in some time. And so the moisture from the vegetation has been stripped. We know this. And if you think about it, with the warmer weather, since about june, the conditions along the area, along the ground, they are a lot drier, and warmer. Because it absorbs that heat. So we are dealing with warmer continue conditions and as we get into the next couple of months, we will be with fire weather as the offshore winds develop. For us at this hour, we go in first over portions of the Lake Berryessa or close to it. In the napa county area today. And temperatures are 92 this afternoon. That is a warm day. The relative humidity at about 25 . And so not bad for this time of the year. We know it could easily be about 100 degrees. And that relative humidity could be critical. Down into the teens. And that southwesterly breeze means that the smoke should push away from the napa area. And so you should hopefully be okay, in the way of smoke. Not getting in your way, or that drift. If you do have smoke in your area, always a good idea to close the windows. No amount of smoke is good for your lungs. Here is a look at what we can expect, morgan hill, we know definitely some good signs here, with that being under control at this point. But you may get a little bit of drift toward morgan hill with a northwest breeze. Into the afternoon. At about 25 miles an hour. And so that could push a little bit of smoke your way. If you do have smoke, a good idea to close the windows, and put the ac on recirculate, if you have it. And in the meantime, temperatures looking good, when it comes to fire weather concerns. Not a big influence for today. I will have a look at what you can expect for the extended forecast coming up in a little bit. Thanks. Several Law Enforcement agencies broke up a side show in san jose. Now, this has been an ongoing issue. This is actually earlier in the week. Right before this bust. There has been an increase in side show activity in the south bay. The one you looked at was on hellier. Hundreds participated in last nights side show as well which spread from city streets and on to highway 101 which partially shut it down. The santa clara Sheriffs Office and the chp and San Jose Police all showed up. Officers im pounded several cars and wrote several tickets. No reports of any injuries from the last nights side show but some of the earlier one dishave reports of gunfire and people setting off illegal fireworks. So safety definitely a concern. Rone ert park police are warning a convicted sex offender considered high risk to offend again is again in the city. Zanle patrick cilley is living with family members in an apartment. And he is convicted on charges of annoying or molesting a child. And required to register as a sex offender and not supposed to be alone with anyone under the age of 18. He is also not allowed to photograph or video tape anyone under the age of 18 without the written consent of a parent. And he is ordered to stay away from places where children frequently spend time. He is 63, and brown hair and blue eyes and weighs 200 pounds. Final lifts for the Contra Costa County interim District Attorneys position will answer questions at a forum. Five candidates that will talk about where they stand on a number of issues. The county supervisors are hoping to fill this position by mid september. It became available in june after District AttorneyMark Peterson resigned. And pleaded no contest to perjury for spending Campaign Money on personal expenses and lying about it. The forum is being held at church of the nazarene, at 1 00 this afternoon on ashbury drive in concord and end at 3 00 this afternoon. And it is a question we like to ask yourself, what we would we do if we hit the Lottery Jackpot . Up next, an expert is in the studio to tell us the first thing you must do if you are lucky enough to win the lottery. Wont you take me to funky town . . A look at the bay area, including the rosy rally going on today. Out and about. Getting out early. Grab your jack. A cool one. I will have a look at what you can expect for your neighborhood coming up. Thank you, rosemary. Lotto fever is taking hold. For the first time. And the powerball and Mega Millions jackpot 300 million plus. Well over 750 million combined. Can you imagine . Although some lucky quick picker out of illinois, grabbed 393 million last night, winning the Mega Millions spot, somewhere outside of chicago. If you strike it west in powerball tonight, 356 million. We thought wouldnt it be fun to win . And if you won, what would you do with all of the money . You would need a little help. And joining me now is Bruce Stewart, at Morgan Stanleys wealth management, in San Francisco. To give you some lotto pointers if you can cash in tonight. How are you . Good, frank. How are you doing today . I would probably run up to lake tahoe and buy lake front property immediately but that is probably not the smartest thing to do. What should you do first . First of all, i think it is important to everyone realize it is not just for lottery, it is anyone who has sudden money, that person who inherited something as well, they also may be coming into sudden money, not just lottery, but first if youre a lottery winner, stay calm because you will have a adrenaline rush, you have won so much money but at the same time you need to stay calm and give yourself time. Give yourself space. And so that you can then take that money, and put it somewhere you need to simmer around a little bit. To digest a little bit. I can do anything. I can quit my job. I can buy a house anywhere. Put it in perspective a little bit. Absolutely. And begin a plan. How do you start a plan. Well, first, i think it is important, before even the plan that you create a team. A team of experts that are around you, because you want to make sure that you have people on your side. People who are working for you. Who are protecting you. Because basically, like you said, a lot of people are going to want that money. They are going to be knocking on your door. Uncle gus. Second cousin bob. And that kind of thing. The theory of relativity. Before you go to sacramento and say im your winner, get a Financial Planner and an attorney and find out how are you going to dole out the money, right . Absolutely. A Financial Planner. A tax advisor is also very important. And an Estate Planning attorney, yes. There are two things to take the lotto. In a bulk sum. And tax it heavily or take it in increments each year. What would you do . Again, it is going to depend on you and thats where the tax advisor and the Financial Adviser should shine because together with you they will be able to figure out what is best. Now, if you take it in a lump sum, a large part of that money is going to be subject to taxes. And so you may want to do it that way, if you want present use of the money. But you may also want to consider taking it out in increments, every year. But if youre an older guy, you might not live that long, you want to make sure you get it. Get the dough. And invest it. And you can live off it. Absolutely. It might be the plan, too. Yes. We were talking off camera, say you give your parents, you know, 10 million, and all of a sudden, they have got a windfall,. Absolutely. And they need a plan, too, right . Yes. And it kind of dominoes down. It definitely dominoes down. If you won, what would you do . Besides the planning. I would probably buy a piece of property. And should we quit our jobs . I wouldnt quit my job immediately. That goes back to the whole idea of stay calm. I would say initially, give yourself that three to six months where you take your life the way as it was, and then come into the plan and then after that, then you can, you know, do that, but i wouldnt try to make impulsive buys at that time and i wouldnt quit the job immediately. It would be hard to keep it under wraps, though. Yes. We would have a whole new attitude at work, whatever, you know, im good to go. You might want to get a new cell number, too. There you go. And some good thoughts. Have you bought a ticket, bruce . Yes. All right. Good luck. Thank you. Hopefully i will call you and you can help me with my plan. Absolutely. We will see where it all goes. That is Bruce Stewart out of morgan stanley. We thank you you. Lets kick it over to rosemary and get your forecast on this lotto saturday. Because it is saturday. And folks want to get out and about and know what to expect. There you have it. A lot of gray. Today and tomorrow. And the next day. And not going to shake this pattern any time soon. Even slightly cooler for some. And as we move inland. For the afternoon. The temperatures will range in the upper 80s. For the warmer locations. A lot of 70s around the bay. Low 60s. You know, in areas along the coastline. From daly city to pacifica and Half Moon Bay and if youre going out to outside lands, this includes you with Golden Gate Park expected to be partly to mostly cloudy the entire day. A look at the future cast models, we get into the second part of the morning, and early afternoon, and it is expected to pull back, and we will be partly cloudy to mostly clear. Away from the coast. And take a look at the coastline here. Again, we are focusing there, on outside land, a lot of folks headed in that direction. The whole day just went by. It is already 6 00 now in the afternoon. And still, covered in gray. And from ocean beach, down through past Half Moon Bay. And santa cruz should get some clearing for this afternoon. And the north bay, it may see a little bit of clearing into the afternoon as well. Although it looks like it could be a bit stubborn in areas over Stinson Beach and bodega bay. Hayward, a beautiful mild day. And 69 degrees at lunchtime an settle into the low 70s. For the rest of the afternoon before cooling back once again into the 60s right about 6 00 or so. And afternoon highs, over portions of the north bay, 83 expected for novato today. And 63 expected at Stinson Beach. A mild 69 sausalito. The onshore breeze will be with us for the afternoon. The sea breeze for us, along the coast and inside the bay, and even through, for our inland areas, you can expect to have some very mild weather, relative humidity speaking, and 89 degrees in antioch, for august, that is a good day. And 79 at Castro Valley and the east bay shore, 70 for almeda. San jose, along the peninsula, 78 in woodsside and 66 in the downtown area of San Francisco. But again, low 60s, if youre going to be on the west edge. A look at the extended forecast. The temperatures, wont change, a whole lot. As we get into the back end of the weekend, claudine, and we will cool even farther, as we get into monday, with temperatures for our inland communities, only hitting about 80 degrees. And a little bit like october. As we get into tuesday, wednesday, and we will get to warmer weather. But if you look at the whole extended forecast, no 90degree mark for our inland communities. Not over the next several days. Thats okay. We can use a break. Are you smiling about that . Maybe a little bit. I like 80s. 90s are a little hot. If you love to dance and you love the warriors, tood is a good day tore today is a good day for you. Open auditions for the Dubs Dance Team today. The details coming up. And the story of a father and husband who survived a heart attack. After playing basketball with family and friends. Up next, he meets the man who saved his life. Fe. Welcome back. To mornings on 2. Our next story is about a man named joel rocinto and what happened on that Basketball Court that almost took his life. He told his story. And we were there when he met the man who brought him back. Joel has always loved the feel of a basketball. And while he didnt like that first shot, he knows just being able to take it is a gift. It is the ball. I just feel like im blessed. Blessed to be alive. After what happened on that same court. Back in may. It was a nice saturday. On may 6. Of this year. And on saturday, it was 7 00 in the morning. I get there at 7 30. Every saturday, we play in the benecia gym. Just friends. And family. Basketball. And you played one game. Were you getting some water. And then what happened . All of a sudden, i forgot anything. The guys were just telling me that i just dropped. When i turned, like everyone was surrounding him right here and they all made contact, they are like it is your dad. We didnt know what it was. We didnt know if he was having a is seizure. I called 911 first. And they were like the dispatcher is we already got a call for the city gym. The call for help went to the fire station. Just a couple of blocks away. And engineer vince parga was the paramedic on duty. We walked in through the front double doors, the first set of double doors there, and he was laying here, actually. Recintos friend, a military medic, started cpr. Somebody started breathing for him. Laying on the ground. Slightly pale. Still sweaty. Still warm. Like he had just collapsed and when we took over, checking for a pulse, we found that he had no pulse. So it is okay, lets start cpr and we put him on our cardiac monitor and we found, you know, a rhythm that we were able to shock so we shocked him right away and continued cpr. He came back but had a long road ahead. So i went to the emergency thing, and had all of the tubes in. And they were doing like, they did an ekg, all of those sorts of things that they had to do. And turns out, for arteries in four arteries in his heart were blocked. It is really bad. Because i didnt even feel anything before it happened. So it is like, it is a time bomb for me. I wasnt ready for it. Nice to meet you. Thank you. Youre very welcome. How are you doing . Good. Good. Youre doing good . Im alive. Looking good. And more han two months after the hear attack, they came to the fire station to thank the man who helped save his life. He looks great. I couldnt tell that he had just been through this huge or deal in the last couple of months, but it is amazing. It is awesome to see him doing well. He has a Second Chance that everybody hopes for. And it is just a great feeling. Dr. Brett nelson says recintos recovery has been remarkable. Literally minutes matter. So for example, if he had been just gardening in the backyard by himself, and he was not discovered for seven to 10 minutes, then he would have irreversible brain damage. He was lucky. There is a saying that luck favors the well prepared. Defibrillators on every truck and they do get used. And everyone could benefit from a little preparation. A month later, i took a cpr class. Even without training, anyone can use the almost two dozen automated external defibrillators around town. As we know, there are a lot of aeds available publicly now. So you know, we could have businesses in town, that have them, that we dont know about. But after you apply these, it is going to analyze a persons heart rhythm and tell them if you can shock and if you cant, they will tell you to continue cpr. It has been an emotional time. I thank the lord. He is a miracle. He just shows how precious life is. And literally in one sec, it can be gone. Every time, i see them, it is like what if i actually didnt make it . So yes, it is really not my time yet i guess. And one is watching over him. And while he is not yet ready to go back to the game. , it was something to see him with a basketball, back in his hands for the first time. You are going to shoot now. There you go. To see a man just grateful to take another shot at life. All right. Thank you guys. Thank you. Thank you so much. It was a big deal for his wife to even say it was okay for him to dribble the ball. Because obviously, it made her very nervous. Yes. But he is doing great. And it was really nice for him to share the story. And an important reminder, i think his son said it, and i was saying it with you off camera watching the story, we should all be trained on cpr. An times have changed. I was taught it in boy scouts back in the late 70s. A lot of it has been forgotten and if you come upon that situation where you can help, be prepared. And those aeds it was remarkable to see them, they do take you through step by step, and when you put those monitors on, in that kit, it will tell if you you should shock and how you should do it. So there is is a lot of technology that can help save lives as well. A lot has changed. Thank you to the firefighters and the First Responders who know exactly what to do. His son said as soon as he saw the firefighters walk in, he knew it was going to be okay. It was going to be okay. Great story. And a nice ending, too. Yes. West of morgan hill. That fire has burned 100 acres. Since it started. But Leigh Martinez is near the fire scene in morgan hill and they made great progress overnight. Right, leigh . Reporter they made great progress. That is correct. About 70 contained as you said. And just a few minutes ago, we saw a dozen cows come over the hill. I think they were looking for brunch and came into that blackened hill right there and look pretty zone the. They got out of here pretty pretty disappointed. They got out of here pretty quickly. It looks like they are in search of more food. And they are using an electric saw is what i said earlier, but i meant a gas saw. And they are pulling down some brush out here this morning and the fire was on a rural hillside opposite of the houses on the other side of hail avenue. And no homes or structures were ever threatened. The brush fire dubbed the tilton fire started at 3 00 yesterday afternoon. It grew to 100 acres and only about 5 contained last night. And mostly burning on the eastern slope near hail and tilton avenues. But overnight, the forward progress of the fire was halted. And it is now 70 contained. And the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Now, cal fire says that the cooler temperatures did help them make a lot of progress last night. We did see several fire crews end up leaving this morning. But they said they are going to have a few teams remaining. They said if any local does see any smoke. Or even smell smoke, they shouldnt really be alarmed. They do have a good handle on this fire right now. And it looks like they are just kind of clearing out a lot of the burnt trees. Investigators now say they have not been able to determine the cause of last months massive fire that destroyed an apartments building under construction in oakland. Ktvu Crime Reporter henry lee explains that is not the first time this has happened. Reporter agents with the a. T. F. Announced that the cause of this july 7 fire at 23rd and valid streets in oakland is undetermined but a. T. F. Officials say they are still hoping to get answers. In a statement, the agency says while the investigation has reached a point where an undetermined finding is appropriate, investigators will continue to consider any new evidence or information provided by witnesses or community members. Fire experts say it is not unusual for investigators not to come up with a cause. Particularly in a building that burns, evidence is destroyed. By the fire itself. And the longer the fire burns, more evidence is destroyed. The a. T. F. s National Response team picked through the burned out building with explosives experts, and engineers and trained dogs. And it just gets to the point where it is very difficult for the investigators no matter how talented they are, no matter how educated they are. The a. T. F. Also listed as undetermined the cause of the ghost ship warehouse fire that killed 36 people in oakland. The almeda county d. A. Says that will not affect their Involuntary Manslaughter case against these two men, for allegedly creating unsafe conditions leading to the fire. Experts say not finding a cause can be frustrating. You would like to be able to go in and come to a conclusion, as to what actually happened but the reality of life is sometimes you just cant do it. The waverly Housing Department was the fourth construction site to go up in oakland and emeryville in just the last year. The a. T. F. Was able to determine that arson was to blame in one of the emeryville fires. Sam sing ser a spokesman for wood partner, the owner of the ato wavily complex. We cant speculate what caused it but it is sure suspicious to us and we are hopeful that a. T. F. Will make a determination in the future about what was the cause.
