The animal taken to lindsey Wildlife Hospital where it later died and the diagnosis of rabies was confirmed. The park goer discovered that bat on sunday in clayton. They scooped the animal in a box and transported it to the Wildlife Hospital careful not to touch it. It was a very smart move since the animal was diagnosed with rabies. The bat was reportedly scared and sick and died about a week after it was brought to the hospital. Officials say it was not the first rabid bat discovered. There was two other bats bringing the total number of confirmed is cases of rabies in contra costa to three. Seeing a bat is neat but we want to remind you they may be rabid and if your beaten you could develop rabies. Officials stressing that bats pose no risk to humans if they are healthy but if you confront one do not approach it especially fit is exhibiting unusual activity like laying on the ground during daily. If you do encounter a bat and it breaks the skin you need to be tested for rabies, if untreated rabies is fatal in humans animals. Palo alto police are investigating a string of suspicions fires, four fires were reported in the downtown area early yesterday morning. Firefighters say a car was set on fire in a parking lot at 2 00 a. M. About 4 30 a dumpster was set on fire. An how later, another Dumpster Fire on high street and then the last fire was actually a small brush fire on the bike path. Im hoping its a random act. I dont want to feel nervous. But im nervous i realize its right by my condo. Fire calls are rare so based upon the number we received during that time and then that they are all in the same area, were treating them currently as being related and investigating them as possible arsons. Police released this Surveillance Video of a man walking in the downtown area before one of those fires started. They are saying they dont if its connected to the fires but they want to talk to him. Hes wearing sabiney style hat and a light cut either shirt and a backpack. If you have information call Palo Alto Police. A warning for people after a bat found in a park tested positive for rabies. The bat was found last sunday at the grove park in clayton near the splash zone where a number of kids played. It died days later from the rabies. The health Officials Say three bats have tested positive for rabies in the county. The other two were in a yard and home in east county. Health Officials Say dont touch bats because they are the number one carriers of rabies. Seeing a bat could be pretty neat and they may want to come up and touch it. But we want to remind people that bats could be rabid and if beaten by a rabid bat you could develop rabies. Rabies is fatal in humans when its not detected and treated. Seeing a bat crawling on the ground in the middle of the day is very unusual and usually a sign that something is wrong with that bat. Duke will become acting secretary of the department of homeland security, second in command, and shes worked in the federal government for nearly 30 years. This morning President Trump went on a twitter demanding an end to the filibuster issue in the senate. He is blaming it for bills that have stalled on capitol hill including kates law. He tweeted republicans will never win if they dont go to a 51 majority vote now. He tweeted eight democrats control the u. S. Senate. Many bill wont pass. Get smart. Kates law is theproposal for undocumented immigrants. The federal agent whose gun was used to kill her will be allowed to testified at the murder trial. The defendant sanchez, accused of shooting her with a stolen gun that belonged to an agent at the bureau of land management. It was originally barred from testifying but a judge says the agent can take the stand. Sanchez is an undocumented immigrant who claims he found the gun and it accidentally went off killing the individual at San Franciscos pier two years ago. The case became a flash point in the National Debate over sanctuary cities. Lawmakers are vowing to work with trump to push through legislation that repeals and replaces the Affordable Care act. It would have eliminated parts of the healthcare law, such as individual and employer mandates. Im optimistic we can still get it done. The people are losing faith but were going to stay in. The bank is paying 80 million to its customers who wells fargo signed up and charged for Auto Insurance that they didnt want or need. 570,000 customers set to get refunds. Wells fargo admits the system signed up customers who already had insurance and in some cases they increased the premiums quote, which may have contributed to a default that led to the repossession of their vehicle. Facebook is reporting a 71 jump in quarterly earnings, and mobile ads accounts for 87 of the companys total advertising revenue. Net income for Facebook Rose to almost 4 billion in the Second Quarter ending june 30, an increase of more than a billion dollars from this time last year. More than 500 cafeteria workers at facebook have joined a union and are pushing for higher wages. Its the latest group of Service Workers in the Silicon Valley to unionize following workers at apple, twitter and yahoo. The workers say they are struggling to make ends meet, dealing with the high cost of living here in the bay area. All these folks are struggling to survive here and this path of unionizing and being able to provide for their families is one way they are able to inch forward towards the middle class. The workers say they hope to follow the lead of shuttle bus drivers at facebook who unionized and won a higher wage. The latest tesla cars have new homes this morning. Those are actual owners getting actual production cars. [cheeringapplause] last night the ceo was there as the first customers got their keys. 35,000, its the companys first affordable car, about half the price of the model s. The company says they have received at least 400,000 orders for the model 3. The president has yet to sign the bill that russia is not waiting and telling american diplomates they need to get out after sanctions will be delivered to the country. Amy kellogg reports. We talked with the congressman when he arrived here and he said, theres a lot of issues going on in washington, d. C. That certainly will affect people here in the bay area. Im worried about north koreas continued testing of iicbms and their abilities. We need American Leadership. Over the course of history, its been American Leadership that has confronted the most dangerous threats. C. , we talked with two women in morning who told me they really want to know what is going on here in the bay area, everything from education to law enforcement. So a full plate and a lot to talk about this morning here with the congressman on this i think frank said, said it well earlier, part hike, part town hall, and as you can see, its very wellattended. Its a good idea. It looks like they are heading out behind you. Nothing like a good hike to kind of clear your head. A way to motivate people to come out and rub elbows with a member of congress. Another major issue, north korea, and hes on the subcommittee for emerging threats and the recent nuclear and missile tests, a very serious concern for him. We talked about russia and the prevent sanctions imposed with vetoapproved majorities, the president has not signed it still. Russia continues to move into ukraine in violation of international treaties, and they need to be punished and we need to stand up to russia and their aggression, so overwhelmingly in russia we passed sanctions, and now were counting on the president to sign those sanctions into law. We talked with some of the people on that hike and they said they wanted to talk to the congressman about local issues, like law enforcement, education, the tops of their priority list. Three of the laws were going to take effect this coming tuesday, including banning a common second trimester. Aclu and a Reproductive Rights Group challenged the measures. The white house says President Trump will sign a bill sanctioning russia, requiring the president receive congressional aproven velocity before lifting future sanctions against moscow. The government in russia is retaliating against the u. S. They are expelling hundreds of american diplomates. Its impossible to endure the behavior toward our country. Any further attempts to degrade our democracy will meet further sanctions and actions. Rex tillerson says he talked to russia and despite the latest moves, months cow is still willing to normalize relations with the u. S. British authorities announced an independent review into building regulations after the tower blaze that killed at least 80 people back in june. New tests identified 82 apartment towers whose cladding system failed to meet fire safety tests. Thorough testing was ordered on the system following the june 14th blade which began with a fire in a refrigerator and spread quickly throughout the 24 story building. Nine tower blocks are having their cladding removed and then replaced. The real problem is is that theres 4,000 around the country and landlords of other tower blocks can get them testing [inaudible] and they still cant say which are safe or unsafe. Experts have warned about risks posed by cladding for years because some systems use highly flammable plastic foam installation which can rapidly spread fires once it ignites. It died several days later from rabies. Health Officials Say three bats after tested pos activity for rabies in the county this year.
