For most of the bay area, we are expecting just clouds in place. The muggy conditions looks like that moisture is coming in from the south. That is what is happening with the upper level winds. Check in on the current numbers out there. Currently 60 in san jose. Livermore or pleasanton in the upper 50s. Santa rosa 51. Here is the plan for today. Cool to mild conditions out there. It will be warming up inland on thursday. That continues for the weekend. For this morning, in San Francisco, lots of clouds. By 12 00, patchy fog. And then partly sunny by 3 00. Temperatures kind of matching the highs from yesterday in the mid60s. Here is the timeline throughout the day. Gradually scale back on the clouds. Could be stubborn for the coast and near portions of San Francisco. As i mentioned, not a big change in temperatures from yesterday. Eventually we will warm up the numbers by the weekend. As everyone wakes up and stumbles out the door probably after the fourth of July Celebration yesterday, its back to work time. And youre going to be hitting the roads with a lot of other folks this morning heading out the door. This is one spot where you will slow down significantly as you always do. This is the bay bridge toll plaza. We have a pretty decent backup. 15 to 20 minutes extended all the way up to the maze, slightly through the maze at this point here. We will keep tabs on it. No issue on the bay bridge itself. A decent ride once you get through the pay gates. Now we will give you a live look at the Richmond San Rafael bridge. We see a backup up to the toll plaza. Finally here is a look at the maps and another pocket of slowing that we are seeing. That would be highway 4 westbound as you come through pittsburgh and bay point. You are going to slow down quite a bit. It frees up after that. And 680 southbound through the downtown concord area not too bad here at 7 03 in the morning. Gasia, over to you. Thank you, alex. A fire at a vacant building in san jose forced evacuations. Firefighters got a call about a fire on williams road near interstate 280. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames from the top floor. The fire went to three alarms before it was confined at 4 00 this morning. The building used to house a Dentists Office but is now boarded up. There were reports that there were homeless inside. So the fact that the building had no power and was boarded up, it is likely that it might have been something along those lines. Fire crews were concerned about the large plumes of smoke and the dangerous contaminants blowing across the neighborhood. They issued a shelter in place for buildings farther away. The two homes were checked for Carbon Monoxide before people were let back in. Because the fire started inside of the building, investigators dont think it was caused by fireworks. The time is 7 04. Even the fog in San Francisco last night could not spoil the fireworks in San Francisco. [music] ray charles always adds something to the fireworks. This is just a few of the sights and sounds of the spectacular over the San Francisco waterfront. 10,000 fireworks went off during this 25minute show. The fog blocked some of it. Organizers called it one of the largest fireworks shows on the west coast. And the reaction from the people, the thousands who packed the embarcadero showed they were not disappointed. I enjoyed seeing the bottom half of the fireworks. It is like a teaser. Without seeing the whole thing, i want more the whole time. We are originally from mexico. Living here for ten years. Every year we come here and enjoy the fireworks. It is awesome. The producers say one way they tried to get around the fog is they launched fireworks that went to different heights so the spectators were able to see some fireworks no matter how high or how low the fog was out there. In the meantime thousands gathered at oaklands waterfront celebrating the fourth of july there. Lots of food and music, beverages and activities at jack london square. Along with live music, there was a kids zone, a photo booth, a sparkling ice lounge and entertainers as well. Last year, more than 10,000 people turned out for the event. New this morning in new york city, a Police Officer was ambushed and assassinated overnight. The 48yearold officer was in a mobile command center jotting down notes when a gunman walked up and shot her through the passengers side window. She was rushed to the hospital where she died. Other officers chased after the shooter. He was killed in a gun battle. Now investigators are looking for a motive behind the attack. A silver revolver was recovered from the scene. The police chief says the Police Officer was assassinated in an unprovoked attack. President trump is on air force one flying on his second overseas trip as the commander in chief. President trump and the first lady took off from joint base andrews just about two hours ago. They are due to arrive this afternoon in poland. The president will make a major speech tomorrow in warsaw in front of a monument honoring the 1944 uprising against the nazi occupation. Thats where 2,000 polish people were killed. President trump will praise their courage and their inspiration. Later tomorrow, he will fly to germany to attend the g20 summit. Today the u. N. Security council will hold an emergency meeting about north koreas latest missile test and how the u. S. And the rest the world should respond. Doug luzader has more. Here at home, bay area firefighters were battling many flames in the east bay sparked by illegal fireworks. Ktvus rob malcolm is in the Oakland Hills. You have there all morning. Tell us what happened up there. Reporter yeah. Were at old redwood road in the Oakland Hills. A place where a grass fire took place last night. There is plenty of evidence that people were up here setting off illegal fireworks. Take a look at what we found a moment ago, a box of fireworks here called the evil enemy. It shoots off 36 shots. Now the Fire Department was sending out warnings that the fireworks have to be safe and sane, meaning they cant go up in the air and they cant explode. But just look at the damage here. It burned about half an acre just beyond this home here. The homeowner had a hose out here as well as they tried to fight the flames. Not a whole lot of damage. The Fire Department knocked the flames down quickly. They had a busy night. We also have video to show you here. Now, these fireworks that are lighting up the oakland skyline are all illegal. They went off almost nonstop since the sun went down last night. Meanwhile in the Oakland Hills here at old redwood road, the illegal fireworks sparked the brush fire here overnight and threatened the homes around midnight. Neighbors say they saw people actually setting off the illegal fireworks and investigators found evidence of the fireworks that burned this less than an acre of land where we are standing. Also another grass fire in vallejo around 9 30 just across from the Gateway Center plaza. Witnesses say they saw people shooting off fireworks in the streets and the field before the fire started. So luckily in all of these cases, no injuries were reported. But, again, the Fire Department just right now still trying to investigate and find out who was responsible forsetting off these illegal fireworks. But a lot of people not getting the message that it should have been a safe celebration last night. Live from the Oakland Hills, rob malcolm, ktvu fox 2 news. A lot of people getting the message as we look around the neighborhood that they had to cut back the brush. There was a lot of Defensible Space around the home. An antioch woman is devastated after her husband, a gas station clerk, was shot and killed monday night. He was working at a valero gas station in antioch. A man came in, bought cigarettes and struggled with him and shot him twice in the back. He leaves behind three college aged children, including his daughter who is devastated. I dont believe he is gone. He left me here. He left me here alone. He didnt tell me he was leaving me. A Police Officer who happened to be nearby came to that gas station and shot the suspect. The suspect ran away. But ktvu has found out that the suspect later died of his injuries. There is now a gofundme page set up to help the family with their burial expenses. It was reported stolen by the oxnard Fire Department down in ventura county, more than 350 miles away. It was abandoned. No one was in the truck and police are not sure how long it had been in San Francisco. Oxnard officials are arranging to get the fire truck back and are relieved it has been found. All right. So far so good on this back to workday for folks who enjoyed time off for Independence Day. Maybe you had the day off before as well. Hopefully you did and now you have to get back to the grind here. The good news is we are not seeing any serious crashes that are really slowing things down around the bay area. A few issues we will talk about. But this is a decent ride. Westbound 24 coming out of the walnut creek area. Along 24 through lafayette. It is slow, slightly slow. Nothing too bad in that area. I will take you south now and show you the san mateo bridge. Less sunshine, more fog. Mark will talk about that here in a second. You have slowing on the westbound side of the bridge heading over to the peninsula this morning. Finally put up the maps here and i will tell you that there is a crash a twocar crash. It doesnt look like anybody is hurt. It is right there at the toll plaza for the dumbarton bridge. You do have slow traffic there. Again, that is coming up to the toll plaza for the dumbarton bridge westbound 84. So keep that in mind as you head out the door. 7 18 is the time. Here is the camera looking out toward the bay bridge and a big blanket of clouds over San Francisco, extending across the bay towards oakland, berkeley and hayward. The overcast and also look at what is developing to our south. We have green here. And those lightning strikes being picked up as well. This is to the west of san luis obispo. Close enough to monterey bay. In the next few hours we could have a shower or isolated thunderstorm closer to monterey. For the most part, the bay area should remain dry. A bit muggy because the moisture is coming in from the south. The monsoonal flow. It will feel humid today. Probably felt that stepping out the door this morning. Temperatures right now we have San Francisco at 53. Santa rosa 51. Some 60s to report in pleasanton and san jose reporting 60 degrees. Forecast headlines for today, we have the clouds out there. It will be cool to mild. A warmer thursday. And it will be hot inland this weekend. That will translate to temperatures around 94 to 97 degrees for the hottest locations across portions of the bay area this weekend. Today like i mentioned on the cooler side. On track to easily reach the lower 70s by about 2 00, 3 00 later on today. We will eventually warm up away from the coastline beginning tomorrow and into friday and into the weekend. New security measures in place meet Homeland Security requirements. Over the weekend the department of Homeland Security announced that the airlines was exempt from the ban. Istanbul based Turkish Airlines announced it had been taken off of the ban list. We are hearing more rumors about the latest iphone. According to bloomberg, the iphone 8 wont have a fingerprint scanner. Instead apple may be working on 3d facial recognition that could unlock your phone within a few hundred milliseconds. This is something that we will have to keep an eye on, especially for this morning. We mentioned the muggy conditions out there because the moisture is moving in from the south. Good morning, alex. Good morning, mark. The roads doing pretty well, i would say, after this back to work after the fourth of july holiday. No major problems were tracking. One issue here, if you use the dumbarton bridge, there is an earlier crash that the chp is still dealing with. This is right at the toll plaza to the bridge in the westbound direction. You will see probably some police activity, chp activity, i should say, on the side of the roadway there. They seem to have the cars involved in the crash out of the lanes. Still residual slowing heading towards the toll plaza in the westbound direction. I will also give you a live look at the toll plaza. That is a busy bay bridge toll plaza. We have a backup now that extends all the way through this maze this morning. That is going to be, you know, a 20minute or so delay trying to get through the pay gates. After that, pretty good ride getting across the bridge itself. 880 in oakland is moving along nicely this morning. No slowing along this part of 880. A nice ride getting up into downtown oakland this morning. 7 33 is the time. Dave, back over to you. Thank you, alex. Authorities at the county fair will investigate the violence and chaos at the fair. There were two separate fights on one of the fairs busiest nights, fireworks night. Leigh martinez is at the fairgrounds in pleasanton now with video of one ever the fights of the fights. Reporter good morning. Seven arrests. All were juveniles. Last night the fair shut the gates at 6 00. This was preplanned for crowd control. They turned hundreds away. But a group inside started a fight inside of the fair. The first fight broke out around 5 30 when we were in the middle of the crowd. Sheriffs deputies tried to break it up. Fists started flying again. Another young man suddenly punched another young man suspected of being in the first fight. Nearly three dozen sheriffs deputies swarmed on to the scene. They tackled that young man, wrestling him to the ground. Some deputies pulled out their batons. Sheriffs deputies say they did use baton strikes. After about half an hour, the suspects were taken away and the fair goers returned to their fourth of July Celebration. Show of force to quickly prevent further escalation of violence. It was successful. When our motors did come in, there was no longer violence and fair operations went back to normal. Reporter fair organizers say after each fair, the Planning Team regroups and discusses the positives and the negatives of this years fair and develop strategies on how to make it better for 2018. Now, Alameda County pharaoh officials praised the Quick Response by the Alameda County Sheriffs Office. And the Sheriffs Office says they have approximately 7 arrests, all juveniles. Leigh martinez in pleasanton, thank you. Throughout the bay area, police cracked down on illegal fireworks. Ktvu spent the fourth of july riding with police in newark. Within five minutes of the ride along, several hundred dollars in illegal fireworks was confiscated. They are dangerous because they can set a house on fire. You have the people who hide among the people who are setting off legal fireworks. So it is difficult for us to catch because theres a lot of people in the crowd. Here we have some illegal dangerous fireworks. Theyre aerial propulsion. And it is a great danger. So we seized them. In newark, penalties are expensive. Violaters could face 1,000 fine and a year in jail. The extra enforcement is needed because every year someone is seriously hurt. In Riverside County firefighters are battling two brush fires. No official evacuations have been ordered. Some people packed up their belongings and animals and left the area. Its gone up really quick, really hot, really fast. It went up fast. One man says several of his goats may have been killed. Fire Officials Say one barn may have been destroyed. A wildfire burning outside of reno is 20 contained. It started near the densely populated neighborhood on monday. Firefighters stopped the flames from spreading towards any homes. The fire burned 25,000 acres of land so far and shut down both sides of interstate 880. The cause is still under investigation. A member of the San Jose Earthquakes soccer team is in critical but stable condition. He almost drowned yesterday in lake tahoe. Silva was pulled out of the water. After being resuscitated it was taken to a hospital and air lift today a Medical Center. The last time that the quakes loaned him out in a contract with reno. They offered prayers to him, his family and his friends. Authorities are reminding people about water safety as families travel to beaches and lakes this summer. Ocean beach is a popular spot but there are no lifeguards at ocean beach. It is known for rip currents. There has been a number of rescues and even drownings there over the year. Ocean beach is not for swimming. They posted warning signs about the dangers. Yesterday the beach patrol was out for the fourth of july holiday to make sure that visitors stayed safe. When the waves come in, they dont look that powerful. But when especially when they come back, they feel like theyre pulling at you. You have to stand your ground. I normally dont get in the water. We only let the dogs go up to her paws. Not here with the rip tide. Statistics from the Lifeguard Association shows there were 37 rescues last year. If you are caught in a rip current, swim parallel to the show and then come back to shore and then come back to the shore. It involved three vehicles. Police say the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash fled the scene. But he was captured later, hiding behind a fence a few blocks away. Four of the nine Crash Victims were treated for moderate injuries. The time is 7 38. Tense moments overnight in san jose. At 8 00, the latest on a fire at a vacant medical building that forced the evacuation of two homes. Different rates during different times of the day. One terminal was evacuated for three hours. Authorities found a suspicious bag. Hundreds of people were ushered outside while the bomb squad went in to investigate. Back here at home, pg e considering a change how it charges for electricity. Instead of paying a flat rate, customers would pay different prices during different times of the day. The goal is to encourage people to change the way they use electricity by being charged more during peak hours. The california puc will vote on the Pilot Program next month. If approved, pg e will pick 250,000 people and test this new rate structure. There could be a new attraction at some county fairs in california next year. Cannabis could be the newest agricultural Product Available at the fairs. There is a clause in the marijuana rules that Governor Brown recently signed that would allow marijuana samples and sales to people at least 21 years old. The sales would be in a specifically designated area. So far no bay area county fairs have said they are considering the idea. We know that the county fair is considering it. Officials want to keep a Family Friendly atmosphere so no final decision has been made. When the Police Showed up at a fourth of july party in asheville, North Carolina it looked like the party was over. But the Police Officers had some other plans. They responded to a complaint about a giant slip and slide at the fourth of july block party there. It was apparently blocking traffic. But when the Police Showed up, they decided to have some fun and tried it out. One officer slid down using an inner tube. The other officer rode down on a trash bag. They just had fun. I like it. Finally on the maps, one issue were still keeping track of is an earlier crash that is right at the westbound toll plaza to the dumbarton bridge. Just a little slowing as you head towards that. As you come out of the walnut creek area headed westbound on 24 through lafayette, you will have a lot of company. Lots of people on the roadways. But no crashes in that area. And really no slowdowns were seeing in that part of the bay area. Finally we will put a map up here. You have a pocket of slowing on westbound 4 coming out of pittsburgh and bay point. And also some slowing southbound 680 coming down into the downtown walnut creek area. But beyond that, things looking okay here at 8 02 in the morning. Gasia, i will send it over to you. If there were report thats there were homeless inside. So the fact that the building had no power and was boarded up, was boarded up, authorities briefly evacuated two homes and issued a shelter in place for buildings farther away. The two homes were checked for Carbon Monoxide before people were let back in. Because the fire started inside of the building, investigators dont believe it was caused by fireworks. Firefighters battled fires in the east bay sparked by fireworks. Rob malcolm is joining us from the Oakland Hills with more on this story. Reporter we have a box of fireworks here, scorched earth and also tall dry grass. This really was a dangerous situation here. Firefighters were busy chasing multiple fires on the fourth of july caused by illegal fireworks. The warnings of course had gone out, letting people know that the fireworks had to be safe and sane. Anything other than that was illegal. And Alameda County fireworks are illegal. We do have video that was recorded from our rooftop camera at jack london square. Take a look at this. These fireworks that were lighting up the oakland skyline last night were all illegal and they pretty much were going off nonstop last night. In the Oakland Hills at old redwood road where im standing now, illegal fireworks were responsible for a brush fire overnight. Neighbors told firefighters that they actually saw people setting off illegal fireworks and we have evidence that we found this morning. Meanwhile another grass fire in vallejo started around 9 30 around turner parkway, just across from the Gateway Plaza shopping center. With all of the fires, no injuries were reported. This burned a little lease than an acre here at old redwood road. And the investigations are still continuing who was behind the fires. Authorities say that a Police Officer was ambushed overnight. She just returned to full duty last month after being out with a leg injury. David lee miller reports on the deadly attack on a veteran Police Officer, a mother of twins. Reporter a new york Police Officer was killed execution style as she sat in her Police Vehicle early wednesday morning in the bronx section of the city. The officer is 48yearold familia. She had been sitting in a mobile command unit when the gun man walked up and fired. I dont know if anything could be more unprovoked for that. Reporter other officers found the suspect running from the scene when he drew a revolver. The officers fatally shot him. A bystander was struck by a bullet in the shootout and is expected to survive. Familia was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. I ask all of our officers to keep our officer and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Reporter it was chilling reminiscent of an ambush where two officers were shot at point blank range. The chief expressed outrage after the shooting of the officer. Reporter yeah there was a show on the ground but this is something that you did not want your kids to see unfortunately. One fight broke out around 5 30 last night as ktvu tamaras were in the middle of the crowd. Police tried to break it up but then fists started flying again when one boy punch the a boy thought to be involved in the first fight. The officers tackled the boy who threw the punch, wrestling him to the ground. While other deputies moved in to push onlookers back. Some deputies pulled out their batons. After half an our hour, the suspects were taken away. The police and sheriffs were right on top of it and able to mitigate it and move people out. So that we make sure that it is a safe fair for everybody. That is the goal at the end of the day. We want everyone like i was saying earlier to come here and have fun and most importantly be safe. He was pulled from the water and needed resuscitation. He was taken to a lake tahoe area hospital and air lifted to a Medical Center in reno.
