Giants hey, they are hot right now. 4 straight winners dropped in pittsburgh 135. So the giants had 18 hits and they each got 1 and it took awhile to get to 1. This was all about that guy, atlanta pitcher mike pultinowcz. Is he going to swing and miss. He had no no hitter in the night. Creams this pitch into the night. He goes 8 innings, gives up the lone hit and 1 run and wins the game atlanta takes it over the as. Nba free agency has been open fewer than 12 hours, big trades started going down earlier this week. How would you like to do a little skiing up at tahoe, maybe this weekend, we are going to show you how the winter storms are paying big dividends up in the sierra this weekend. A big change for up and coming tech workers, a look at some internships that are paying big bucks over the summer. Good morning, everyone. We have more news on 2. This is the first day of july. Summer is already moving fast. Moving right through. I cant believe it. We will have a check of weather in just a second but first we will look at the stories making headlines today. We begin with a very serious story. Out of arkansas. A scary moment last night. At a club in little rock. As a gunman opened fire on a crowd of people. 17 people were hurt this morning. And it appears none of those injuries are lifethreatening. So good news there. We will take you inside the club to show you the moments that sent everyone running for their lives. Minimum wage going up in San Francisco and san jose on this july 1st. That means raises for thousands of employees across the bay area. However, with those raises could come an unexpected loss of income. Depending on some studies, there is some conflicting reports that show more pay could hurt minimum wage workers and others disagree with that. Steph curry is about to get paid like a twotime mvp. The warriors guard set to become the highest paid player in nba history. If you need a loan, you might want to give him a call. He will be a rich man. That means you will be seeing the guy for years to come in a warriors jersey. We will break down the mega contract he is set to sign next week. It is grand. A lot of money. A lot of dough. And taking a look at your forecast this morning. A little bit of gloomy foggy weather but supposed to clear and be comfortable. Yes, already clearing out of the way. In some spots. It is a Beautiful Day to be out. Maybe playing some basketball. Maybe getting out for a run, maybe walking the dog. It is a little bit cool and gray along the coast and inside the bay. But elsewhere, we have partly cloudy skies, and giving you a view here, the fog and the gray, from San Francisco, looking toward the bay bridge, and ive got another view for you, though, if we take the numbers, weve got san jose, in our view, and san jose right now, 59 degrees. And you can see partly cloudy skies. A little bit of blue there. What a pretty start to the day. Livermore, 56. Upper 50s in oakland. Low 50s in San Francisco. Where we are covered in overcast. 55 degrees in santa rosa. Where we are starting out with partly cloudy skies over portions of the north bay as well. And 24hour temperature change, we will show you not a lot of change. We have santa rosa, a few degrees warmer. To start the day. And weve got the onshore breeze with us. Here is a look at the fog from up above. You can see it is already beginning to pull back just some. In many communities, already waking up, with mostly sunny skies. Where i dont think we will have much sunshine for today, pacifica and Half Moon Bay. If youre thinking about those areas for your afternoon. Be prepared for that. The onshore breeze, we continue to watch, through fairfield at about 28 miles an hour. At least the gusts are that strong. And so there is an indicator there. That the mild to warm weather, not too hot type of weather is going to remain in place for your saturday. Future cast model here as we get into the second part of the morning and the early afternoon. It backs away. We are now into saturday afternoon. Mostly sunny. And most areas, but right along the coastline there, so the San Mateo County coast, you can expect partly to mostly cloudy skies. And temperaturewise, not a lot of change. And 60 degrees pacifica today. Low 60s San Francisco. And low 70s around the bay. And beautiful weather, if youre going to be out at the coliseum this afternoon, watching the as play. And 83 in concord. And 87 in antioch. One of the warmer spots for the afternoon. Slightly warmer for tomorrow. We do go anywhere from there. In fact we cool down into the holiday. We will have a look at what to expect in the extended forecast coming up. Thank you, rose mary. A developing story in little rock, arkansas where 17 people were injured in an overnight nightclub shooting. Video posted on facebook shows the moment those shots were fired early this morning. Morning. You can hear several gunshots before the video goes black. The shooting happened around 2 30 this morning. Local time. Inside the power ultra lounge. Police say they dont believe the shooting was related to terrorism. Investigators say they believe the shooting happened after a dispute between people at a concert. Multiple people fired Weapons Police say. But so far no arrests have been made. The mayor of little rock says more information will be released later this afternoon. He wrote on facebook that his heart is broken after this shooting. Well, back here in the bay area, the chp is investigating a hitandrun crash. With multiple victims. Some of the victims were told are children. Some kids, the crash happened late last night, off highway 4 and North Concord and ktvu christian captain has been at the scene all morning long. And i understand they have closed one of the onramps now to highway 4 . Yes, good morning, frank. Good morning, ali. They have close down both the onramp and the offramp. If you look in the distance, you might be able to see the chp officers there, on the solano way offramp off of highway 4 here in concord. And the onramp also closed at this hour. A couple of minutes ago, we saw them taking measurements, trying to gather as much information about this fatal accident. No word on exactly how long these on and off ramps will be closed but we have learned at least two people died at the scene. We are hearing that at least two of those were children. Witnesses at a nearby restaurant tells me that the suspect was driving a newer suv and was crossing through the grass that you see there, coming down slope, collided with that van, and destroyed the van, as it was getting on to that offramp. And then punch throughout that hole in the fence and wound up in the parking lot of this restaurant here. The kinders restaurant. Some workers there tell me that at this point they are still too devastated to talk on camera based on what they saw this monk. We do have this morning. We do have reports this morning that there are at least two fatalities. The man who caused the crash, he got out of the vehicle and fell once and according to the witness, fell flat on his face. And then got up, and took off on foot. And now, reading the chp report online, it appears the driver at this time is still on the run. Still unaccounted for. Investigators believe that that driver was injured in that crash. And have put out alerts at area hospitals. To be on the lookout for walk in patients who have signs they were in a car crash. And last word, investigators are still trying to track down the owner of that suv. They went to the address that they have on record and it appears that the vehicle had been recently sold. Now, we are hoping to get more information about this investigation. Coming back to our live shot, you can see that there are still investigators out on the offramp. Which again, it appears that the suv may have been headed down off that offramp, and crossed over the grassy area, and that is where he collided. Again with that minivan. We are hearing that a woman, presumably the mother of those children, was in that minivan. And the witnesses again, tell me that she was understandably clearly very distraught at the time. And thats one of the reasons why the workers here at the restaurant tell me that they are still too upset to talk about this on camera. They are deeply shaken by what they saw this morning. We are hoping to gather more information from chp as the morning progresses and bring you more information in particular about that suspect who it appears at this time again investigators are still looking for. At this hour. Christian, i imagine one of the things investigators are wants to try to figure out is whether the driver of the suv was impaired, just based on the witness account you were explaining a few minutes ago he kind of stumbled out of the vehicle after the crash, im sure there is one thing they want to follow up on. Reporter absolutely. I am sure that is one of the reasons, why you have everybody stick around, after an accident, to figure out what led up to it. And see if that person was impaired. That key very well have been impaired. Key have been shaken up by the accident he could have been shaken up by the accident. But getting out of the vehicle and taking off on foot shows a callous take on what happened here. There were apparently victims of the accident laying out on the sidewalk. This person presumably knew he was in a collision. Knew that there were people, at least injured, if not dead. And he opted to take off on foot. So clearly, chp, concord authorities, and sheriffs deputies, all on the lookout for this individual at this time. And quickly, christian, was the restaurant kinders, it happened around 11 00 last night, was that open . So were there a number of witnesses there . Or just a couple . Right, so frank, from what i understand, the restaurant wasnt hope for business but doing inventory, so they were in late, and the kinders here shuts down at 9 00. This accident happened shortly before 11 00. But they were doing inventory so there were workers here at the time who were still finishing up their nights work. Perhaps getting ready for the following day. Those workers, again, frank, in talking with them, i feel for them, because they too were deeply shaken by what they saw here and they tried to help as much as they could, but there is only a limited amount of what they could do. I can only imagine the scene late last night. Okay, still gathering information, but some good information there for us, thank you, christian. Live in concord. Time now is 8 09. The concord crash happened just hours into the chp maximum enforcement for the extended Holiday Weekend. Highway patrol officers are looking for wreckless drivers all weekend long. Especially those that are speeding and driving drunk. The maximum enforcement period runs until late tuesday night. 35 people were killed on state roads and highways during the fourth of july holiday. And that was last year. More than half of those people, in fact, 65 of those who died did not wear a seatbelt. Napa police are searching for a woman suspected of hitting a pedestrian and leaving the scene. It happened just before 9 30 thursday night on redwood road and solano avenue. Police say the woman was possibly driving a white Cadillac Escalade when she hit a man and they say she stayed at the scene for a moment and drove off, heading south on solano avenue. According to the napa valley register, the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Anyone with information about the crash should give napa police a call. Today marks the second anniversary of the shooting death of kate steinley, walking with her father and a family friend near the San Francisco Ferry Building when a bullet struck her in the back, and killed her. A short time later, Police Tracked down the suspect, Juan Francisco lopez sanchez, an undocumented immigrant who kept returning to the country after being deported five times. The trial is set for later this year. House of representatives passed two immigration bills on thursday. Including kates law, and it would increase sentences for undocumented immigrants committing crimes who have repeatedly returned to the u. S. And meanwhile President Trump and the first family are at the golf club in new jersey and they will take part in various Independence Day celebrations shuttling back and forth to washington. And they are revealing more aspects of the immigration crackdown yesterday. I. C. E. Officials will go after parents and relatives who bring kids into the u. S. Illegally and the fed says they are dismantling human smuggling operations which include identifying and arresting those who paid smugglers to bring children across the border. Immigrant advocates though say this effort will send a wave of fear through vulnerable communities. I think a lot of families find themselves who are in very desperate need to come to this country. Not because this is, you know not because it is easy for them, you know. A lot of them have faced a lot of violence obama back home. During the Obama Administration, we had basically uncontrolled immigration, which is dangerous in the terrorist stage, and the Trump Administration is now enforcing existing laws, and seeking additional laws like kates law, and i think that is a good idea. The trump policy is a sharp departure from the Obama Administration. As he just mentioned. Which allowed refugees fleeing violence in Central American countries to seek sanctuary through sponsors here in the u. S. Hundreds of people attended a heated town hall meeting last night in hayward, hosted by almeda county sheriff greg ahern. Immigrant Rights Groups asked the sheriff pointed questions about how his department is handling immigration issue, especially in cases where state law may conflict with federal law. The sheriff was asked to clarify his position on cooperating with immigration officials on deportation. How do you expect for our community to trust Law Enforcement when you are completely complicit with deportation . I have taken custody on misdemeanor offenses once theyre released but that is what i. C. E. Did on their investigation, no part on almeda county sheriffs office. The sheriff says his policy did involve notifying federal immigration officials about the release dates of undocumented immigrants at the almeda county jail. But he also said he agrees with parts of the california bills which seeks to keep i. C. E. Out of schools, churches and courts. Up next, allegations of new scandals at the Oakland Police department. One involves sex. The other involves drugs. And hitting the slopes in july. Maybe a tshirt and tank top. You dont have to travel to south america. Take a look at the slopes in our state. And voters in San Francisco improved a serious of increases in 2014 as a way to help low wage workers. Mayor ed lee marked the occasion with a tour at a local manufacturer. And the owner of golden bear outer wear says the employees dont make minimum wage but six workers will have an increase in hourly rates. And minimum wage jumped up to 13. And a uc berkeley study shows 13 workers did not see any cuts to their schedules. The resort mountains are some of the highest in tahoe where the air is thinner and cooler so the snow, it is still hanging out there. This years ski season has now lasted almost 200 days, nearly a month longer than average and visitors are taking full advantage. I dont need much of anything. And many tech campuses also have places like art studios, and arcade halls where interns can take a break. My team actually did a white weighter rafting trip during the summer. Which was a lot of fun. There is like nap rooms around campus. If you want to take a nap during the day. Which is really nice. It is important to stay really competitive in the market. There is a lot of Different Companies that are after the same talent. And the summer interns wont be spending their time getting coffee for people. Many Tech Companies say they treat their interns like full time employees. Allowing them to work on real company projects. After a long day being an intern, a nap is usually a pretty good idea. Napping stations. We want to move forward. I dont think we want to take a nap. Anyway, times are changing. Coming up, very serious story. Deadly shooting inside a New York Hospital this past week. A highway onramp in concord is shut down at this hour as investigators continue to look into a deadly hitand run accident. Several People Killed or injured in the overnight crash. And some of those were children. Ktvu christian captain along the highway in concord with more information on a very troubling story. Christian . Reporter yes, very tragic story at this point. We can also tell you, right now, that chp and caltrans crews still have the on and off ramp for solano way closed on to highway 4. While they conduct their investigation. As a matter of fact, right behind those bushes there are some chp officers. A couple of moments ago they were still measuring and also looking to talk with witnesses here at the scene to try to pin down as many details about this deadly accident as possible. We are hearing that either one or two people died. We are hearing at least one of those victims was a child. The witness here, at the scene tells me that the suspect was driving an suv, and crossing through the grassy area there. Between the offramp and on ramp. Collided with the minivan that was on the onramp. And destroyed that minivan. The occupants of that minivan, the children, preembly a mother, devastated, injured in that crash, and the suv then continued on, and into this parking lot here. And we have initial reports with multiple fatalities and some children who are in the minivan. The Eyewitness News tell mese the man in the suv got out of his car, fell once on to his face, and then took off on foot. And now, we have continued reading the california Highway Patrol reports online and again it appears that that driver still is on the run. And investigators believe that the driver was injured in the crash. And have put out an alert that area hospitals are on the lookout for walkin patients who have signs they were in a crash. At last word, investigate rers still trying to track down the owner of the suv and they went to the address they had on record and it appears that the vehicle had recently been sold. Now, we are still working to get more information about that suspect. Because again, we are hearing at this point, he is still on foot, or at least was last reported to be on foot. And may have actually crossed back over highway 4. To the other side of the freeway. And may have gone on from there. And there was Significant Police prens. They set up a perimeter. But unable to track him down. And broke down that perimeter at around 1 00 this morning. So keep in mine, the accident happened shortly before 11 00. So about two hours, investigators were out, trying to track that van down. At this point, still no word if they have tracked him down. We are still hoping to hear from chp as soon as possible to get more details about this incident and who theyre still looking for at this hour. In the meantime the on and offramp remains closed for drivers in that area to be aware of, right . Absolutely. And thats one of the reasons why were trying to push that information out and make sure drivers in the area understand that the solano way on and off ramp shut down for this investigation. And no word on exactly how much longer that is going to be closed. It has been closed for about 40 minutes now. And so once it reopens, we will get that information out to the public, as quickly as possible. I know it is a popular route. They have a flea market on the other side there and the drive in theaters and all that kind of thing. Christian captain with new information this morning in concord this morning, thank you. We are learning more about a doctor who opened fire at a new york City Hospital yesterday. Killing one person. And wounding six others. Before taking his own life. The shooting happened at bronx lebanon hospital. Where the gunman, dr. Henry bello used to work. Police say he had an Assault Rifle hidden under his lab coat and started shooting on two floors on the hospital. Officials say he resigned two years ago amid Sexual Harassment allegations. I thought i was going to die. When they start shooting and you dont know where the shooter is, and you dont know what is going to happen to you. Screaming. Everyone went down. Patients coming down. Patients coming down. Cops with their guns out. It is kind of scary. The New York Daily News says it received an email from bello two hours before the shooting that blamed a doctor for blocking his chance to Practice Medicine and blamed the hospital for his termination. An investigation by the faa continues today, after an emergency plane landing in l. A. And some new video shows the moment of impact, you will see the flames, it happened yesterday morning, and as the plane comes down, the pilot was trying to get back to John Wayne Airport, after losing one of its engines and instead the cessna 310 crash landed on the 405 freeway, just short of that airport. We saw flames all around us. We thought at first it was a big rig that had hit us. And essentially, just started regaining control of my vehicle. Two people on board the plane survived. Taken to the hospital. With traumatic injuries. An offduty firefighter actually pulled the two people out of the wreckage of the plane. Three cars hit by parts from the plane that broke apart on landing, but fortunately nobody was killed. We are learning about a new scandal within the Oakland Police department. Ktvu henry lee reports, this time it involves allegations of sex and drugs inside police headquarters. In oklahoma, a Police Officer is accused of having sex with a woman in a basement of a Downtown Police administration building. The woman apparently came forward in may after she had a disagreement with the officer. Who only joined opd in 2014. It is a woman scorned concept that is feared to be here. Officers know when they act outside of lawful bounds and act immoral, they are essentially giving their career to someone else to control. But that is not all. At the same part of the basement, as it was being cleaned in june, a large stash of illegal drugs, including cocaine, was found in a locked cabinet. The drugs may have been there for more than a decade. Left behind, by a former canine officer who was now a lieutenant. In internal affairs. Police say the drugs were in their original sealed packaging. With all of the contents accounted for. It is possible the drugs could have been used for a training exercise. Some are not so sure. The drugs being where they were, that is very, very troubling. Would he dont know how long they were there and how they were being used but they were certainly loose and when have you loose evidence, that means you have the potential for abuse. Civil rights attorney jim shannon and john burres helped secure a settlement over alleged Oakland Police brutality. The department is still under federal oversight, more than a decade and six chiefs later. I think it is time to target the individuals in the police department, and in the city who are most responsible for these endless delays and to hold them in contempt. A federal judge has ordered oakland firm officials to appear in court in two weeks to discuss why the department fell short in investigating the unrelated sex exploitation scandal involving a former sex worker, who is the daughter of an Oakland Police dispatcher. This case will not help matters. This is very disheartening to hear another sex case that developed here. It is immoral for offices who are supposed supposed to to up hold the law and take advantage of the situation and use the grounds of department for their own sexual activity. The Oakland Police chief Ann Kirkpatrick sent a message to Police Employees saying anyone who engages in Police Misconduct will be held accountable and went to say, i want to be clear about my expectations. We are in the business of regulating other peoples conduct. So i expect us to regulate our own conduct. On and off duty. Henry lee, ktvu, fox 2 news. Time now is 8 39. Supreme court judge aaron kersski has filed an official response to the recall paperwork filed against him on monday. In the reply, the judge said quote, judicial recalls over a single decision threaten our independent judiciary and set a dangerous precedent. He is a Santa Clara County judge who presided over the controversial brock turner case. In his response, the judge defends his decision to sentence the stanford student to six months in jail, for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on campus. He said that recalls should be reserved for judges who have a pattern of bias or misconduct. The fourth of july weekend, authorities are encouraging folks to attend safe professionally licensed fireworks shows rather than setting up fireworks themselves in their backyard. Law enforcement in almeda county seized thousands of pounds of illegal fireworks yesterday in two separate busts. The big one involved a search warrant for weapons at a Motorcycle Club warehouse. This is in san leandro. Hours later, a police raided hayward, uncovered a homemade Fireworks Lab in a home. We run into probably about one a year. It is not uncommon. But once again, we are left with all of those chemicals and all of those substances that we now have to get rid of. The person was also taken into custody. In hayward. And investigators say he was selling his homemade fireworks on craigslist. A recent construction in San Francisco is under a San Francisco treasure. The discovery that harkens back to the gold rush era. A great story, coming up next. Good morning, to you bay area. Giving you a view there at the overcast sky to start the day here inside the bay. Alongside the coast. Many waking up with sunshine. A look at what you can expect, for your neighborhood, for the weekend, and your holiday. Coming up. Well, this morning, we are talking about Suicide Awareness and prevention. And experts say the best way to make it happen is by not being afraid to talk about the topic. Experts say knowing the possible warning signs and just being aware of those around us can go a long way to preventing suicide. Joining me this morning is pia crosby, licensed professional counselor in marriage and family therapy. Good morning to you. Good morning. One of the big things you advocate is not being afraid to ask someone whether it is a co worker or acquaintance and maybe a stronger who looks like theyre struggling, if there is anything that they need, that you can do to help. Right. First, you have to assess the connection. So you see that there is something going on. Something different. The way to approach a person, have it be a loved one, you ask the pertinent questions and how are you doing today. And start with a regular conversation and assess the connection because thats where it come forth. How does that help because many people may be afraid to make assumptions or offend anyone and thats why maybe dont bring up the topic. The whole thing about it is the Mental Health culture. We need to create more safe, more dialogue kind of converse way of just saying hey. It is going to be hard to make those conversations, to make those connections, but continue. Have the conversation. And if the conversation doesnt come up and something is resisting, follow up. Be that person, that possibly can say hey, look, im here for you. I just want to just check on you and see what is going on. And assess your reconnection. And say, you know, i see that have you been dealing with a lot of things. And is there anything you would like to talk about . Or maybe, you know, here is my number. We can chat later. Is there a risk in people maybe feeling like it is not sincere . You ask someone, how are you doing . Thats like casual conversation. We all ask each other that, you know, at work in different places. But how do you communicate to that person that you really truly want to know how theyre feeling . Right. So you reach that conversation with just that genuine how are you doing. And then later on, before it ends, hey, you know what, i can see that maybe we can talk more a little bit about what is going on. Give me a call or we will meet somewhere. And so leave the door open. Leave the door open. Yes. Exactly. How much progress have we made as a society, kind of reducing some of the zig that stigma about reducing the Mental Health issues. And i think we have come a long way but the Public Service announcement, it has to be within the household. The conversation has to start with the kids. With your teenagers. With your coworker. It has to be something ongoing. Something sustainable. So parents and kids need to sit down and have a conversation. With teachers, it has to be something that we talk about. Because Mental Health is whole health as well. Not just physical. It has to be all surrounding whole health. It affects the whole community. Thank you very much, pia crosby. We have the National Suicide prevention hot line on our web site. Also the crisis text line, 741 741 and we have the web site on there as well. Pia crosby, thanks for being with us this morning. Local civic groups commissioned an online poll which finds 85 are responding saying traffic is worse now than last year. Well, the chp is investigating a hitandrun crash in the east bay with multiple victims and some of those victims are children. Very difficult. The crash happened late last night on arnold industrial way. Right off of highway 4, North Concord. Ktvu christian captain has been at the scene all morning long where an onramp to the highway is now closed and chp is still investigating. Christian . Reporter yes, frank, in just the last 30 or 40 seconds or so, that onramp has now been reopened here. So solano, reopened. The chp officers have moved their investigations into this parking lot. That vehicle actually came off of the exit ramp here at solano avenue. Collided with a minivan on the onramp. And then carried over into this parking lot area. We have been talking with the eyewitnesses here, at kinders, the restaurant here, who they say that there were simply too broken up to talk about the incident on camera. We have videos from overnight. We are hearing one or two fatalities overnight. And they may have been children. Our eyewitness tells me that a man got out of the suv. Came out of his car, fell flat on his face. Thats a quote from our eyewitness. And then took off on foot. And now, reading the Highway Patrol reports online, it appears that that driver is at this time still on the run. And investigators believe that the driver was injured in that crash. And have put out an alert that area hospitals should be on the lookout for walkin patients who have signs they were involved in a Motor Vehicle crash. At last word, investigators are still trying to track down the owner of the suv and they went on to the address they have on record for the vehicle that was abandoned here at the scene and it appears that that vehicle had recently been sold. And now, coming back to our live picture, you can see, the chp still out here, conducting their investigation. And we are waiting for an update from chp, we just spoke with them briefly. They say that they are trying to craft and prepare a statement, and we will bring that to you as soon as they release it. We are hoping to get more information, in particular about the number of fatalities here at the scene and also more information about the suspect, who again, witnesses say, fled the scene, on foot. And may have actually crossed back over highway 4. On foot. Before disappearing into the night. Yes, hopefully theyre able to track down the person involved, the person in that suv, who appears at this point to may have cause the crash but thank you christian for the report and we will check back later. San joses minimum wage. Thousands of people in San Francisco are getting a raise to 14 an hour. And voters in San Francisco approved a series of increases in 2014. As a way to help low wage workers. The mayor ed lee mark the occasion yesterday with a tour from a local manufacturer. The owner of golden bare outer wear says none of the employees currently make minimum wage but the new law will give six workers a small increase in their hourly rates. Living in a city like San Francisco, it has become so expensive, and that increase in the minimum wage was really one of many ways, but a very solid way to help with income inequality and a lot of workers who are struggling to afford the expensive city. Now, along with increasing the minimum wage, the mayor says it is important to build more affordable housing. The minimum wage in the city goes up to 15 an hour. This Time Next Year. And it goes up to 11 an hour statewide starting next year. And there are some conflicting studies on how increases in minimum wage affect the job market in places like seattle. A study by the university of washington shows people earning minimum wage during 2015 and 2016 saw their hours cut by 9 . And minimum wage bumped up to 13 an hour during that period. Last week, a uc berkeley study, that focused on the seattle market showed workers earning 13 an hour did not see any cuts to their schedules. It all equates to a relatively mild day on this first day of july. I will have a look at the temperatures, for your neighbor, coming up. Thank you, rosemary. San francisco is a city rich with history. More than you might think. The city boom, with the gold rush, way back in 1848, and thousands flocked to the city by ship in search of fortune and some of that fortune remains buried under the city streets. Recently some of those ships were unearthed as buildings are going up right and left and there are more than 50 more ships still buried under the city blocks of San Francisco. And joining us now, it is morgan smith, from San Franciscos Maritime National historic park. How are you . Doing great. Thanks for having me. A fascinating story to uncover history. Yes. Tell our viewers how the bay kind of got filled in and these ships ended up just sitting in the bay and got covered with dirt. Yes, so the San Francisco, it used to be called yerba buena, and yerba buena cove, and south from the Ferry Building to the embarcadero to the transamerica building, it was all a shallow cove. And after the gold rush, ships would come in. By the dozens. There was over a thousand ships in the harbor at one time. And they used all kinds of ships. Some are dilapidated and couldnt leave and other, the people on the ships would desert them because they wanted to find gold as well. With all of the abandoned ships in the bay. And what they really wanted was to get out to the deep water so they could unload the ships, because many couldnt make it in the shallow bay. So if you claim a plot and fill it, in the shallow water, it can be yours. But the easiest way to do that, is to sink your ship. They call it scuttling the ship. And have it hauled up and sink it in the mud. So they had all of the ships stuck in the mud in the city. And then in 1851, there was a huge fire that burned about 20 blocks of the city. And burned all of these ships down to the water line. And after that, they just covered right over them, and pretty much forgot about them until recent times. Okay. Well, now they are building, like nobodys business right now. And they are uncovering some of these. And there is a couple at your museum right now, and talk about the general harrison and the nyantic. And you brought in something that came from one of those ships. Yes, when these ships were scuttled, people were coming in so fast in San Francisco, the harbor master since in 1850 in the 12 months prior to that the 62,000 people came into the city and they needed more buildings and they used the ships for hotels and saloons and the city jail for a while. And they had all of these different uses, and the nyantic and the general harrison were two ships that did that. So the nyantic came in and buried and used as a store and we have the stern. It was discovered in the stern of the ship, in our Maritime Museum right now. People can go and see it. And from the general harrison. Show them what you have here. This is a bottle of wine that was unearthed in 2001. 2001. They found this site when they were digging the basement for a hotel. And there still wine in here. It look like an old cabernet perhaps. And california, we know aged wine is great. This is 150 years old. I am not sure i would want to drink it but you recorked it right . Yes, so you can tell a little bit is missing. There is some sed meant in there so the cork was probably bad. The archeological firm must have recorked it when they found it. Amazing. What other things have you found . So some of the things are like parts of the ship. The masthead. Things like that. Parts of barrels. And they have fabric. There is a lot of fabric for dresses. Sure. And even a pipe bowl that is really decorative and carved. So they found all of these things that were in the when it was used as a warehouse. And so when contractors are building something, they discover some sort of ship, or archeology, and they find it and do they stop and let people come in and kind of work it a little bit . Yes, probably not hoping to find anything. I would say, it would slow down progress. But hen they do, most of them are really good about them and hire an archeological firm and do a dig and sometimes they end up at our museum to tell the maritime history of the city. You said 50 ships still underneath the streets of San Francisco. How do you know that . From primary accounts. We have a research center. And other city resources. But mainly from newspapers. And sometimes a photo or a log from a ship. And we can tell when theyre sunk and what they were used for. And you have ang app as well. A classic way to see it. And people can go around and have different challenges at different parts of the parks and the National Historic ships or the museum, and learn more about the park through a fun modern technology. All right. Well, lets throw up a full screen and find out what is going on as your museum. And if you would like to go there, the Maritime Museum, opened zaley 10 00 to 4 00. Go to daily 10 00 to 4 00. 900 beach street. And it is awesome and free, right . To get most of the park, it is free and on the historic ship sl a 10 fee to get on the ship. Well worth it to see a 150 yearold bottle of wine. Thanks for coming in. We appreciate it. All the best. A little bit of history in San Francisco. And a lot of it is still underneath the streets of San Francisco. Pretty cool. Rose mary . I agree. A little bit of a cool start. A look at the east bay hills. Mostly sunny skies. And the ananometer is going. Take a look at that spin. Weve got that onshore breeze. All the way through the east bay. All the way through the delta. And because of it, temperatures remain on the mild side for today. And a look at Storm Tracker two. We do have a, if you take a look right there, that curvature, we have a trough that is moving through northern california. And we even have a little bit of activity other areas Like Washington and oregon in the way of rain. And we will continue to watch that pass through. Because of this, west cool air in place. We have the onshore breeze in place. And the marine layer 2,000 feet deep. Behind it, a ridge of High Pressure over the pacific. This will be a bigger influence on us for sunday. So today, very similar temperatures to friday. And as we get into sunday, we will be slightly warmer. And slightly. I mean a few degrees. So it is not going to be a whole lot of change. 61 degrees in concord right now. And 66 in brentwood. Where we are enjoying some sunshine at this hour. Inside the bay, alongside the coast, still stuck under cloud cover and we remain in the 50s. And 58 in oakdz oakland and 55 in San Francisco. And mostly sunny in sant rosa and the south bay locations and san jose, mostly sunny and 61. Along the peninsula, 55 belmont. And 56 in san mateo. And upper 50s in woodside. If youre going to see the as play this afternoon. A very enjoyable forecast. For the fans. Upper 60s. A westerly breeze at game time. Mostly sunny skies. Top out at about 70 degrees this afternoon. And bring along the sun block with plenty of sunshine outside of that, and great weather in store for the game there. And 80 degrees expected for sonoma this afternoon. And if you go into the marin county fair in san rafael, 79 the afternoon high for you there. That is a Beautiful Day. And along the coast, going to be a little bit cool. And stinton beach, 63. And a nice one in sausalito. Upper 60s expected for your afternoon high. As we get to the east bay, 69, in almeda. And away from the water, 75 castro valley. And 80s for the inland east bay. And upper 80s for antioch and 83 in livermore. And south bay, 75 in san jose. And 81 in los gatos. And nice warm, but not too hot for you there. And 68 santa cruz. And mostly sunny in santa cruz with mild weather expected for your afternoon. And along the peninsula, upper 70s in redwood city. And we will go 63 in San Francisco. And a bit cool there for the fill more jazz festival. And as well as oyster fest going on in the Golden Gate Park area. A look at the extended forecast. Giving you a view of the next couple of days, and all the way into your fourth of july. Temperatures are slightly warmer. On sunday, and cool it back just a little bit on monday. And we remain status quo as we get into your holiday, with temperatures in the low 60s at the coast. And low 70s along the bay and mid to upper 80s expected inland. And very enjoyable weather. But only item of note would be for the fourth of july. The fog. The low clouds. Very similar to what were experiencing now. We will give you a round of applause anyways. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a studio audience. A little applause. [ applause ] frank, im blushing. Stop. There you go. Even though the fog is coming. Thank you rosemary. Sure. For all ages. Doing great. Stunning sands stone. Creates a landscape that challenges the imagination. We started at elephant rock. The Elephant Trunk is on the left. Going down like that. And its head is up there. I see it. This is the nose, right . Yes, yes, yes. Thats the nose. I got it. It took me a second. And we have camel rock on the north side of the park. Does it really look like a camel . It does. The stone is worn away over time and bears the marks of visitors who may not realize the damage carving leaves behind. It takes thousands of years to form this way with the wind and the water. And you know, beating away the sandstone. But it only takes one day for somebody to carve their name in there and it will last for hundreds of years. Loyal to the highest point of these rocks, and you will find climb to the highest point of these rocks and you will find views like no other. And that is where we have found ben and lind. I i have been up here since four or five. Climbing around the rocks when are you a kid. My dadded dad and i were free climbers. We liked to climb. And i was pleasantly surprised when i started to come out here. My Elementary School friends took a trip out here. The park is 190 million years old. And the mountain formed about a million years ago and grinding holes used by native americans give us a glimpse back into town. You are kind of protected in the space. Go down there and take a look at them. This one is really deep over here. They are grinding rock, where they would get into other rock, and working in the same area over and over again. We are headed up to the wind caves right now. A lot of erosion in the area. So these steps that we are seeing over here, were made by our volunteers, park volunteers and took maybe a year, year and a half to do it. This is a wind cave. The little indents over here. These little caves. They are formed by a combination of wind and water. It drips down. And the wind kind of carves it out with the water. A combination. Climbing is encouraged at these caves. Although it might test your strategy and skill. And once inside, it was a little disappointing to see all of the graffiti. We have done in the past, where we have kind of blended colors, and camouflaged it. But even that didnt overshadow the view. Or the temptation to explore the smaller spaces. You are stuck, arent you . Im not stuck, i will have to do a pushup out backwards. Nice job. We have made our way to Sentinel Rock. You will have to do a little bit of climbing. Bouldering. You know, there is no real marked trail on it. So you will have to find the safest way through there. It is a beautiful formation. And the cables were put in there, in the 30s by the civilian conservation corps. To help people get up. Yes. And not fall off. The hike to Sentinel Rock was fun. The climb, another adventure. Up here, and the cables do help. It gets a little narrow on the side. So, i think if youre scared of heights, you may pause a little bit here. But the men in the 1930s, they put the cables there, and thank you. Wow. Wow. So scary. And so pretty. If you havent made it to the top of Sentinel Rock, i think youre missing something. You would miss that feeling. Of good evening on top of a pretty spectacular world. Claudine wong, ktvu, fox 2 news. She is always getting lost somewhere. It looks beautiful up there. Mount diablo is so big and so beautiful, and in the middle of the valley, there are 58 counties in california, and guess how many you can see on a clear day at the tippy top of that big mountain . Dozens easily. Dozens, actually, almost three dozen. 35 counties. I grew up with mount diablo kind of in the background, and there is our beautiful picture of mount diablo right there, fog kind of encroaching in on it. But a lot of people who live in that area live in the valley, they dont realize what a resource it is. I didnt know about, you know, rock city, and you know, i grew up in that area, i found out about it after doing a story. And how beautiful it was. I lived on the east coast for a number of years and grew up in walnut creek, and i look at mount diablo and wow is it big and if you bring people out here from new england and they see the mountain and holy moley what is going on there . We take it for granted. Right in the middle of the valley. It is beautiful. Coming up on mornings on 2, a packed house demands answers from a bay area sheriff. We have new information about the hitandrun crash in concord. Weve been telling you about throughout the morning. And yes, the news is not good. The crash claimed the lives of two children, and now, there is a photo of a person of interest, and authorities are looking for, perhaps the driver of that car, ktvu christian captain is at the scene with the very latest. Christian . Reporter yes, caltrans still on the scene. Doing some repair work behind me right now. Chp just left the scene. After their latest part of this investigation. We do have that photo you were talking about, frank. Lets roll that photo right now. Police investigators from chp say they are looking for la mueller isvon wilson jr. He may have very well been the fleeing driver who witnesses described as a black male adult with a lanky build, about 510 to 61, short black hair and gray or dark shirt and blue jeans and black shoes. Witnesses say the driver of that accident, the driver of that car, rather, sustained injuries to his head and face. Because they had a significant amount of blood on him. We learned two children, a 5 yearold and a 10yearold died as a result of this accident. A witness tells me that that suspect was driving a newer suv. And was crossing through a grassy area at a high rate of speed and smashed into another vehicle and eventually tumbling to a stop, in a parking lot. Of a kinders restaurant. And that eyewitness telling us that the man got out of the suv. Fell once. And then took off on foot. At last word, investigators are still trying to track down the owner of the suv. We do have reports that they went to one address, and have heard that the vehicle had recently been stolen. But again, the latest information and this coming from chp, posted to their facebook page, in just the last five minutes or so, chp investigators say they are looking for a person of interest, is what theyre terming him. Lemule servon wilson jr. We hope to have more details on this and set up an interview with chp later on this morning, to dry to gather more information and update people on the search not only for the speed limit, but for any more information the suspect, but for any more information about what may have happened in this deadly crash. We have confirmed through chp, a 5yearold and 10yearold child died as a result of that accident. And christian, you mentioned earlier that hospitals had been kind of put on alert that the man whose photo you just showed us may have some injuries and that they are asking anyone, hospitals, if someone comes in, with injuries, that appeared to be incurred from a car crash to contact authorities because of it. Thats exactly right. That is part of the search that chp are conducting right now. For the individual who is involved in the crash. And witnesses say that as you said, allie, he got up, walked away from the accident here. The witnesses tell me that he was bleeding. He had signs of being injured in that accident. And he walked away. Actually, managed to walk around the building, and then there are eyewitnesses who say that he actually crossed over highway 4, to the other side of highway 4. Chp, concord police, county sheriffs deputies, all set up a perimeter trying to locate him, were unable to locate him, although they had the area closed off for about two hours last night. So at this point, still searching for the suspect behind the wheel of that vehicle. Involved in that deadly collision. Well now a name and a face to look for. Okay, christian captain, live for nus North Concord, thank you. Well, we are learning more about a doctor who opened fire at a new york City Hospital yesterday. Killing one person. And wounding six others. Before taking his own life. The shooting happened at bronx lebanon hospital where the gunman, dr. Henry bello used to work. Police say he had an Assault Rifle hidden under his lab coat and started shooting on two floors of the hospital. Investigators say bello resigned from the hospital two years ago amid Sexual Harassment allegations. I thought i was going to die. When there is a shooter and you dont know where the shooter is, you zoo know what is going to happen to you you dont know what is going to happen to you. People screaming. Every floor. Patients coming down. Patients coming down. And cops with their guns out. Kind of scary. The New York Daily News says it received an email from bello two hours before the shooting that blamed a doctor from blocking his chance to Practice Medicine and blamed the hospital for his termination. I think a lot of families find themselves very desperate need to come to this country, not because this is, you know not because it is easy for them, you know. A lot of them have faced a lot of violence, back home. During the Obama Administration, we had basically uncontrolled immigration. Which is dangerous in the terrorist age. And the Trump Administration is now enforcing existing laws, and seeking additional laws like kates law, and i think that is a good idea. Now, the trump policy is a departure from the Obama Administrations policy. Which allowed refugees fleeing violence in Central American countries to seek sanctuary through sponsors in the u. S. And you need to take some steps to keep your family and friends safe from foodborn illness. The usda says four steps to keep food safe from bacteria that can make you sick. One, clean and separately cook and chill, also important when cooking, is to use a food thermometer. The centers for Disease Control and prevention they estimate one out of six americans can get sick from Food Poisoning every year. And for more information how to keep your food safe, log on to food safety. Gov. And you dont think people have peed in a pool, think again. Recent research, Environmental Science and technology letters, discovered about one in five americans admit to peeing in the pool. Scientists figured this out by measuring levels of an artificial sweetener found in soup, diet sodas and other items, the ingredient doesnt occur in nature. And most of it passes straight through the body and making a good indicator that there are urine levels in your pool party. They found on average, there were eight gallons of urine in a 110,000gallon pool. I think it is one of the studies that you can file under do we really have to study that . And go to a kitty pool, it is pretty obvious. I think it is more than that, sadly. But we will leave it at that, right . We will send it over to rosemary, upstairs. You have your jacket on it. Is a little chilly. But any time is a good time for a cocktail. Right . I have hugh with me. It is time. A lot of us will be hosting this holiday. And hugh has some great tips as well as great recipes for us. We will start off with this lovely looking think. Dark rum. With homemade honey mint lemonade. That sounds tasty. Delicious. My friend jeff showed me that drink many, many years ago. And so what ive got here, is i am going to make, this is called honey mint syrup. This is the foundation for the drink. And the only thing that requires any work at all. And basically im putting in this pot, honey, sugar, and water. Honey, sugar and water. We bring this to a boil. And then you turn the heat off. And you just drop this fresh mint in there. And you let it steep as if youre making tea. I can already smell it. Yes. And just cover that up. And in 15 minutes, we will strain it and chill it. So that gives you this honey mint syrup. Okay. And we will make the lemonade. You can serve this honey mint lemonade, you know, without alcohol, and super delicious for everyone. Love that idea. Make two batches. Yes. One with rum. And one without. And you can then just spike it if you want. And here, throw the syrup and the lemon juice, and equal parts, into there. And twotwo . Equal parts. One of each. And we will put three parts of water in here. Yes. And thats it. Super yummy. So we have some made here. And we have the dark rum. So these are we are going to use these glasses, these are really, really great. Before we move on, hugh, i read that you could actually make this mix a week in advance. Yes, you can do it a week in advance, you can do the syrup two weeks in advance. I love that. Who wants to do a lot of work on the actual day. Totally. So easy. And these glasses are great. These are great for outdoor entertaining. A lot of people by the pool, they dont want any broken glass and great for kids and look stylish and super lightweight and i think theyre nice enough to get a bunch and use them indoors indoors, easy and lightweight. And look good and wont break. And time for paper cups i guess. I made yours real strong. And so ice, about two ounces of dark rum. Okay. And then we have our lemonade. We have the mix. The lemonade. Here we gox and i will give you a little more lem here we go. And i will give you a little more lemonade so youre not totally blown out of water. A mint sprig. Cheers. Making it look pretty. Ooh. So good. Very nice. So lets talk now about a couple of other summer entertaining tips. First thing, unwanted guests, little bugs. Were not talking about the neighbors. Were talking about bugs. Could be that, too. Make sure you stock up on citronella candles before the party. And another idea to avoid the bugs is serve the main meal, from inside the house. You can still have the whole Party Outside and sit inside and eat and have the buffet on your dining room table and everyone can go in and get food and go outside and you dont have it in the sun attracting and worrying about mayo items and bugs. Totally. A good tip for simplifying and making it easier. I like that. And some other tips, think about the timing of the party. And some people may have a schedule for the kids when they go to bed. And think about like the heat, and the light. And if you live in a really hot area like livermore or somewhere super hot in the bay area. Dont do the party at 3 00. Start at 6 00 p. M. And conversely, lets say you dont have Great Outdoor lighting in your backyard. And try to do the party before it gets dark. Because otherwise then youre scrambling for lighting. Right. And if you need a little lighting because i dont want to spend a whole lot of time or money on lighting. We have this. This is a sheps crook. It is kind of like gan dolph. Thou shalt not hold this. All right. And i dont have to hold it at the party. You will put it in the dirt, right . Put it in the dirt and we have great little lanterns but you can hang almost any kind of lantern and stick it in your lawn and we have fun little l. E. D. Lights but there is all kinds of lanterns and things and hang these l. E. D. Lights in here. That is so cute. And you just clip it on. So cute. And where do you find these . They are at home depot and online everywhere. I like to do that. And i was tired of those. Im getting new oned. It rolled under the table. And yes, so basically, you know, have a really good drink. Maybe sure it is easy for people to get drinks. Lots of water and accessible beverages. Right. And plastic cups are great. These are fansly looking. And make sure fancy looking. And make sure youre planned ahead in terms of the timing of the party and make things easier on everybody. All right. And i got to get some of these for me. I love them. 10. Super inexpensive. Great. All good tips. Thanks to you. Thanks for coming in. Thank you for having me again. Back to you guys. Rosemary how was the drink again. I will bring it down so you can taste it. Very tasty. Save some for all of us. Good stuff. All right. Thanks, guys. Have fun. Well, steph curry is about to get paid like the best player in the nba. Well, arguably he is.
