Defendants almeda and harris knowingly created fire trap with inadequate means of escape, they then filled that area with human beings and now is faking the consequences of their actions. Later this morning the California Supreme Court will consider a legal challenge to proposition 66. The Ballot Initiative designed to speed up california executions. Proposition 66 passed by a slim majority in november. It requires all Death Penalty appeals to take place within 5 years of sentencing. Opponents say that would cause the court to prioritize Death Penalty cases at the expense of other cases. The Supreme Court has three months to issue a ruling. Its now been 3 years since voters approved proposition 46, triggering the relow release of thousands of prisoners. It reduced the penalty for low level crimes from a fell ony to misdemeanor releasing 5,000 inmates from state prison. If the end the verdict was not what steve lamar looked for. Disappointment with his heartache. Sgrs he Dominican Republic he gets to live his life and sierra doesnt. At the hall of justice the jury delivered their sentence, life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of sierra lamar. The morgan hill teenager went missing in 2012 on her way to school and her body has never been found. In garcia has one ounce of humanity or a shred of humanity in that coldhearted murders heart i call on him today to tell us where sierra is so we can bring her home. Prosecutors used a mountain of evidence to win their case that included garcia being in the area minutes before the 15 15yearold disappeared, her dna on a rope in his trunk of card and his dna on her clothing found in a field. Human justice can hold the guilty account and but accountable but it cannot resurrect the dead. Theres no joy in this verdict. Defense lawyers argued mitigating factors meant life behind bars. Garcia came from a home with verbal and physical abuse and asked the panel to spare his life so he can be a positive influence on his own children. For the lamars, this verdict ends more than 5 years of waiting for justice and brings a small measure of hope. What is next is just trying the move on with our lives. Garcia could bring closure to the lamar family if he tells them where sierras remains are located.
