Already seeing signs of slow traffic on northbound 880 making your way to downtown oakland. Lets look at the east bay commute. We had a noninjury accident there. Highway 4 is slow. In fact our camera has highway 4 under fog. Thats why were not showing it to you. 680 is slow from 242 to highway 24. 24 is moderate through the orinda area, into oakland. In the south bay, the 85 freeway, 101 and 280 are beginning to fill in for the trip into the west valley. 7 03. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. The widow of the orlando nightclub shooting will appear in an oakland federal court. Noor salman was first interviewed 7 months ago to find out what she knew about the mass shooting. Allie rasmus is live in oakland with the criminal charges she will be facing. Allie. Reporter well, 9 30 this morning is when 30yearold noor salman will make an appearance in federal court in oakland. The charges she faces in connection with the shooting include obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting. The details about the charges we dont know. We dont know why she is facing those charges. Because the federal prosecutors have not yet released the charging documents in the case. The latest information that we have coming in just about 15 minutes ago is that salman is charged with the counts because federal prosecutors believe she misled police and the fbi about the orlando nightclub shooting. Now, salman is the widow of omar mateen, the man who killed 49 people and injured dozens others at the pulse nightclub back in june. The deadliest in u. S. History. Salman was interviewed after the shooting 7 months ago but now they believe they misled the fbi about the attack and that is why she is now facing criminal charges. She is originally from the bay area. She moved back to the bay area after the shooting. She was taken into custody by fbi agents in rodeo. The family said no comment when asked about the arrest. Neighbors on her block were surprised by all of the fbi activity. And many said they didnt even realize that salman had moved back home. She may have had, you know, some thoughts about this. And if she had just said something ahead of time, it may have saved lives. She may not know anything. I hope thats the case. Reporter salmans Attorney Says she is innocent. She said, quote, it is misguided and wrong to prosecute her. While salman may have been with her husband when he bought ammunition used in the attack, she didnt know what his intentions were. He physically abused his wife so she may is have been scared to come forward with any information that she had. They met on a dating site. There will be more information released on the information that salman is facing after her Court Appearance. When i spoke to an fbi agent in florida this morning, they said that is the timeline. After she makes her appearance here at 9 30, the federal prosecutors involved in the case may release more details why she is facing the charges she is. The expectation is once salman makes her Court Appearance in oakland, after this is done, she will be transferred to florida for future court proceedings. Back to you, gasia and dave. Showing up for Racial Justice is organizing it, saying they want to express outrage at the agenda of donald trump. This is part of a nationwide movement called 120 hours of direct action leading up to fridays president ial inauguration. Another protest that is part of the 120 hours of direct action took place last night outside of San Francisco city hall. Demonstrators put up tents and said they would stay there until the incompetent august race on friday and are pro protesting several issues, including police shootings. We checked a little while ago and the protesters had left. Were not sure what happened. The police tell us people are not allowed to stay in the park overnight but they havent confirmed whether or not the protesters were cold to leave. Not my president. Not my president. The owners of the warriors originally purchased this piece of land back in 2014. These are renderings of the 1 billion chase center that is slated to open in time for the 20192020 season. This will be an entirely privately financed sports and Entertainment Complex that will bring the warriors from across the bay from oakland to San Francisco. The 18,000 seat arena will host concerts and conventions and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue for the city. Right now of course the warriors play in what is one of the loudest arenas in the nba. The they will be staying at oracle for the next two seasons. The question, whether the atmosphere that we have at oracle can be created at the new chase center. The folks designing the new arena are hoping to do that. Some east bay warriors fans say it wont be the same environment once the team moves to San Francisco. I spoke to a member of save oakland sports, a grass roots group. It is unfortunate. All of the jobs generated by last nights game, i know the warriors have given everybody an opportunity to keep their job. But it will be difficult to get over there. Reporter and there have been a lot of legal set backs when it comes to building the new Warriors Arena in San Francisco. The Mission Bay Alliance filed suit trying to block the project. As it expands its stores. Today, General Motors also expected to announce 1 billion investment that will keep or create 1,000 jobs here in the u. S. The money will reportedly be invested in several factories in the u. S. Gm is not saying where the new jobs will be relocated. The investment comes weeks after donald trump attacked gm and other automakers for building cars in mexico and shipping them to the u. S. The chair says the company has no plans to change where it produces small cars because of trumps threats to heavily tax cars built outside of the u. S. Automakers have to plan two to four years in advance when deciding where to build cars. Hyundai will invest 3. 1 billion in the u. S. In the next five years. They dont know if this will happen 20 years from now, 30 or 50 years from now. It could affect 11 million workers in the Food Service Industry alone. Alaffected, the manufacturing industry, affecting about 1. 4 million jobs. Also construction at risk of 49 of automation affecting about half a million jobs over time. Now, they say this includes anywhere from minimum wage workers to highpaying jobs. They also say if your job involves any random unpredictable type of problem solving, that youre safe because robots dont do well with random tasks. Pam. Okay. I want to show you the 46 minute drive from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. A lot of the slow traffic is after highway 4 as you drive to the bay bridge. Pardon me. This is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. You will see that traffic will be busy as you drive through the area. I also want to mention contra costa county. Our camera has been fogged out on highway 24. But weve had slow traffic approaching the tunnel. Earlier issues on the other side of the tunnel and had a little bit of slow traffic on highway 4 driving through oakland to get down to the 580. 7 33. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. A big tree toppled down in alamo and damaged the roof of a nearby house. It happened near interstate 680 about 12 30 this morning, crushing a part wall and fencing. Crews cut it up and took out all of the debris. No word of any injuries. The recent storms are probably to blame for making that tree fall. In the meantime in pacifica, work crews are trying to fix a big sink hole on the coast. Right. Janine de la vega is live and just spoke with some of the construction crews there. What is the update, janine. Reporter well, theyre very confident they can stabilize the sink hole. Work crews arrived a short time ago working on this huge hole. It is 40 feet wide and 15 feet deep. Crews started doing the repair work yesterday. Its on edgemore avenue between the fire station and the church. Theyre shoring up the sink hole so it wont grow bigger. Were told it could take six weeks to fix. With more wet weather in the forecast for tomorrow, possibly that timeline could change. The sink hole opened up last year and started small. But residents say the recent rains made it worse. It formed last year. Uhhuh. They came and poured concrete in there. Then we didnt have much rain after that. So it wasnt evident what the concrete pouring would or wouldnt do. Reporter the sink hole is located several feet inland and not right along the coast. The pacifica coast is experiencing a lot of erosion. There was another sink hole that opened up along a beach path and a condemned apartment complex faces demolition because of the crumbling cliff it sits on. The city has been seeking grants to fix repairs. It was a Drainage Pipe that led to the sink hole near the church. And crews told me off camera this morning that, again, the pipe is what theyre trying to repair. But theyre very confident they will stabilize it and it will not get larger. That is good news. Thank you, janine. Westbound 37 and 101 is back open. It was shut down because of flooding from the storm. That created huge traffic problems. Even yesterday when not too many people were going to work and school because of the Martin Luther king junior holiday. The time is 7 36. A man accused of a deadly shooting rampage at the ft. Lauderdale airport earlier this month is due in court. Legal papers filed by prosecutors say that santiago fired 10 to 15 shots in a methodical manner and aiming at peoples heads during the attack on january 6th. Five people were killed. Six others were hurt. When he used up all of the bullets, he fell to the ground and surrendered. An 18yearold woman from denver, colorado is repo among the five ople killed inside of a nightclub in mexico. She was with several friends when the shooting broke out at the resort on sunday night. One of her friends was also hurt in the attack. He was shot twice in the arm but was able to return back to home to texas last night. Right now i dont know how to get over it. I keep thinking of my friend. And im just in shock still to be honest. I dont know how to take all of this in right now. Investigators say it happened when security guards tried to stop a man with a gun from entering the club. Three killed were security guards. No word on the fifth victims identity. 15 people were also injured. The gunman escaped. Mexican authorities are not calling this an account of terrorism. 7 37. After more than two weeks on the run, the suspect in the deadly new years eve nightclub attack in turkey was captured. Take a look at the home where the suspect was arrested in a police raid late monday night outside of istanbul. He was trained in afghanistan. They also say he admitted to carrying out the attack and that his fingerprints match those at the scene. The suspect is accused of killing 39 people, injuring dozens more during that new years eve party. Isis has claimed responsible in retaliation for turkeys military operations in syria. This escalated last week when he said he was moving leftys to another location because he would not make building upgrade thats would cost millions. The Building Owner says he will renovate and take over leftys himself. A scary experience for a man in michigan after a coyote broke into his house. It didnt just stop at one. He thought someone had broken into his house. So he searched the house. He found a broken window in the basement. He says a few seconds later, the head of a coyote popped up. He ran upstairs and called 911. The sheriff and animal control came out. They took the coyote away. But a couple of minutes later, he went downstairs and all of a sudden especially there was another coyote. Now im freaking out. Oakland Fire Department is on the scene. They may have already put it out according to radio traffic. But the traffic is slow climbing the other way. People getting a good look at this car fire. It stays slow past the scene. This is the normal commute over to the grand lake area. Thats not a good alternate route either. 8 03, lets go back to the desk. The wife of the orlando nightclub shooter will appear in a federal courtroom in oakland. Noor salman is accused of helping her husband pull off the attack and misleading investigators afterwards. Allie rasmus is live in oakland where salman will answer to the charges. Allie. Reporter yes. At 9 30 this morning, 30year old noor salman is due in federal court in oakland. She faces two counts. Obstructing justice and aiding and abetting a terrorist organization. Now, this is a copy of the indictment against salman. Federal prosecutors allege between april and june of last year, salman provided Material Support or resources to omar mateen that ultimately lead to the death of 49 people in the nightclub shooting. It says that salman knowingly engaged in misleading conduct. When questioned by local police to, quote, prevent them from communicating with the fbi. Sealing man is the widow of omar mateen, the man who shot and killed 49 people and injured dozens of others in orlando at the pulse nightclub back in june. She is from the bay area and moved back to the home with her 3yearold son after the shooting. 7 30 yesterday morning, thats where she was taken into custody by fbi agents. Her family evaded reporters outside of the home yesterday and simply said no comment when asked about the arrest. Salmans Attorney Says she is innocent. She says while she may have been with her husband when he bought ammunition used in the attack, she didnt know what his intentions were. Mateen physically abused his wife so she may have been afraid to come forward with any information that she had. The indictment doesnt say how she helped her husband or how she misled investigators but 9 30 is when she will appear in court to answer to the charges. We will be listening closely in the hearing. In just a few hours, they will be breaking ground on the new arena in San Francisco. It is promised to be a new state of the art center called the chase center in the Mission Bay Neighborhood. Alex savidge is live with the ceremony and why it took so long for construction to begin. Reporter yeah. There were so many legal challenges to this project over the years. That delayed getting construction underway. The team purchased this piece of land back in 2014. But finally today, construction officially gets underway on what is going to be the new home of the Golden State Warriors here in San Franciscos Mission Bay Neighborhood. This site is near 3rd and 16th streets. And here are renderings of the 1 billion chase center that is slated to open for the 2019 2020 seas on. This is going to be a privately financed sports and Entertainment Complex and will bring the warriors from oakland to San Francisco. The 18,000seat areap awill host concerts and convections and other events and generate millions in tax revenue for the city. Right now of course the warriors play in one of the loudest arenas in the nba. They will be staying at oracle for a couple more seasons. But the question among many fans is whether that atmosphere at oracle can be recreated at the new chase center. Designers are hoping to do that. Some east bay warriors fans say it wont be the same environment once the team moves over to San Francisco. I talked this morning with someone who is with the group save oakland sports. Moving the team out from the east bay is you know, its pretty sad. Pretty sad. With all due respect, im not supporting the move to the new chase center. Best of luck. I will still be a warriors fan. It is a sad day for the warriors. Reporter there have been a lot of set backs when it comes to building the new arena in San Francisco. Neighborhood group called the Mission Bay Alliance filed a suit trying to block the project. Their concerns centered on traffic and noise in the area with the new arena. A state Appeals Court ruled in favor of the warriors. Now the project moving forward, the team is going to have a Ground Breaking ceremony that will happen at the site at noon today. Warriors executives will be on hand here to officially begin the construction at this site. Also head coach steve cur will be here and kevin durant will be here. Rick wells, im waiting for him to come out and say that the warriors will remain the Golden State Warriors or go back to the San Francisco warriors like they were in the 60s and the first year in 1970 as well. Lets take a look at 580. There was a car fire right where i put the fire icon. One lane is blocked but traffic is a mess in both directions because people were looking what was going on. I also want to mention there is slow traffic on 101 and 280. So 101 getting down to palo alto. At 8 31n is a look at 280 in san jose. Look at the slow traffic from highway 17. Steve was right. The late crowd is on the freeway now and causing traffic jams. Thank you, sal. A giant tree fell on top of a roadway in the alamo area and damaged actually the wall of a nearby home. The tree came down near 680 about 12 30 this morning. It crushed part of the wall and fencing. Work crews spent the night cutting the trunk and removing debris. No reports of any injuries. It is believed it came down as a result of the recent storms. This morning we learned that westbound 37 between 101 and atherton avenue is back open. Crews spent days pumping water out of the median. That created traffic problems even yet when a lot of people were not commuting to work because of the holiday. A resource of the young man came to the rescue of tired and hungry drivers stuck on the road yesterday. He delivers pizza in a car for pizza my heart restaurant. Mudslides closed the highway last week and that created long backups. So chris took out his trusty skateboard and started delivering pizzas. Drivers would call in their order, giving him the vehicle make and model. One of the customers by the way, a woman who was nine months pregnant. This morning, what is being called an anti racist rally will be held at oakland city hall. It will start in about 30 minutes. A group called showing up for radical justice is organizing it, saying they want to express outrage at the agenda of donald trump. Homeowners who live there on morton road have been going up and down a single lane dirt road through private property to get out.
