It has been getting slightly, and i mean slightly better because people are adjusting to the commute. Because people will not take more than a couple months of this. This happens every year, gets heavy in september and october. People get fed up with it, and they start making other plans. They adjust their commutes and things get normalized, so trust me, relief is coming. Its just not coming in september or october. By the time november rolls around, were going to have a little bit of relief, if it stays true to what happens every year. Lets move along, and take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. Nice, clear shot. Steve and i have been talking about how clear it is. So visibility has been good. The traffic, unfortunately, has not been getting into San Francisco. And this morning, in the south bay, we have seen some terrible traffic. Someone actually told me not to say terrible because thats a value judgment, so i would just say it is very slow getting into the Silicon Valley on every single freeway. Northbound 101, and you know, she might be right. Maybe theres one person out of 10 million who really loves slow traffic. That person is out there, maybe. But its very slow. 101 is improving between 280 and 880. There is a little bit of improvement and most of it is slow. At 8 17, lets go to steve. Sal, you remember Frank Somerville used to work in the mornings. Yes. He ate some almonds once, and i think he could haved for ten minutes, and the message coughed for ten minutes, the message is dont eat peanuts or almonds in the morning. Ill save you there. Lets go to the temperatures here, above average temps, please. 93 in napa, and there we go. 85 oakland airport. 88 Mountain View, and 90 in san jose. Today you can see where the average temps are. All well above, not as hot as yesterday, the cooling begins a tiny bit today. It will still be hot, inland though, the biggest drop will start tomorrow, coast and bay. The fog will come flying in, and by wednesday into thursday, we could see temperatures that drop anywhere from 25 degrees for some. Look at the trend here for livermore, 197. 89. 78, by thursday, low 70s, no fog yet. Its trying right down there. It looks like it will be in monterey, late morning. Starts off very warm for santa cruz, and then that fog comes flying in, and absolutely traps him. We do get a little bit of cloud cover coming up from hurricane paine moving into Southern California, have to keep an eye on that. The majority should stay south. 50s, 60s, running well above average compared to 24 hours ago. Tomorrow well reverse that. Some of the Higher Elevation temps are really warm. 78 above los gatos. The dead trees could fall on homes, causing a lot of damage. When fire breaks out, they of course give the flames a lot of fuel to burn. Back now to the developing news we have been covering all morning. President obama about to speak on the bombings that happened in new york and new jersey. We listen in. Mayor de blasio, we have seen what was apparently a pipe bomb go off in new jersey, in seaside park, where it could have seriously injured our u. S. Marines and spectators who were there for a race. The bombing in the chelsea neighborhood here in new york, injured more than two dozen people. We are extremely fortunate and grateful that nobody was killed. And our prayers go out to all of those who have been injured. We want to wish them a speedy recovery. I especially want to commend all the Outstanding Police and First Responders in both new york city and new jersey for their extraordinary professionalism and their quick response, which surely prevented even more people from being hurt, and ensured that people got assistance quickly. The investigation is moving rapidly as is my practice, im going to leave it to the fbi and Law Enforcement to provide detailings. I think everybody is aware at this point that there is a person of interest who is the focus of the investigation, and the fbi can give you further details in terms of how that is proceeding. I told governors cuomo, and christie, and mayor de blasio that they and their teams will continue to have all federal support as they move ahead with their investigations in tracking down every lead and working to keep the people of this city and of this region safe. Law enforcement is asking for the help of the community and so to everybody in this region, i want to repeat what we have said before, if you see something suspicious, then you need to say something. Contact local Law Enforcement. In the meantime, i would ask that the press try to refrain from getting out ahead of the investigation. I am extraordinarily happy with the cooperation thats been taking place between the fbi and state and local Law Enforcement officials. They are moving smartly on this investigation. It does not help if false reports or incomplete information is out there. So try to, as much as possible, stick to what our investigators say because they actually know what theyre talking about. Meanwhile, i know that the United Nations meeting is here every year already creates an additional workload for new york. But given the un meetings, we also have a particularly high level of federal resources here to help as needed. Were going to make sure that everybody is working together seamlessly as one team to get to the bottom of what happened, to find those responsible and to make sure that justice is done. Meanwhile, while all this is going on in new york and new jersey, were also focused on the stabbing attack at the Shopping Mall in minnesota. At this point, we see no connection between that incident and what happened here in new york and new jersey. Our attention there is on the people who were injured. And again, we are very grateful that no one lost their life, thanks to the quick action of a brave off Duty Police Officer, the suspect was killed and we avoided more people being hurt. I had a chance also to speak with governor dayton this morning. I assured him that we will provide all the assistance that he needs in the investigation. The fbi is investigating the minnesota incident as a potential act of terrorism. We will direct the full resources of the federal government to make sure that the investigation goes forward aggressively. And finally i want to take this opportunity to reassure the people in this city, this region, and americans across our country, but our Counter Terrorism and Law Enforcement professionals at every level, federal, state and local are working together around the clock to prevent attacks and to keep us safe. They are the best of the best. Over the years, they afforded many plots and saved many lives. And we are incredibly grateful for their Service Today and every single day. We will continue to lead the Global Coalition and the fight to destroy isil, which is instigating a lot of people over the internet to carry out attacks. We are going to continue to go after them. Were going take out their leaders. Were going to take out their infrastructure. They are continuing to lose ground in iraq, and in syria, and later today ill be meeting with Prime Minister of body of iraq to discuss the need to sustain that momentum. As we take away more of their territory, it exposes isil as the failed cause that it is, and it helps to undermine their ideology which overtime makes it harder to recruit violence. And were going to enlist Tech Companies and community and religious leaders to push back against online extremist content, and all messages of hate. In moments like this, i think its important to remember what terrorists and violent extremists are trying to do. They are trying to hurt innocent people, but they also want to inspire fear in all of us and disrupt the way we live, to undermine our values and so even as we have to be vigilant and aggressive, both in preventing senseless acts of violence, but also making sure that we find those who carry out such acts and bring them to justice, we all have a role to play as citizens in making sure that we dont succumb to that fear,s and theres no better example of that than the people of new york and new jersey. When i was speaking to governor cuomo, and governor christie, and mayor de blasio, one point they all made is that folks around here, you know, they dont get scared. Theyre tough. Theyre resilient, they go about their business every single day, and that kind of toughness and resoluteness and the recognition that neither individuals nor organizations like isil can ultimately undermine our way of life. Thats the kind of strength that makes me so proud to be an american, and thats the kind of strength that is going to be absolutely critical, not just in the days to come, but in the years to come. By showing those who want to do us harm that they will never beat us, by showing the entire world that as americans we do not and never will get into fear, thats going to be the most important ingredient in us defeating those who would carry out terrorist acts against us. Thank you very much, everybody, and as i said, you will be receiving, im sure, ongoing briefings from both the fbi and local Law Enforcement in terms of the details of the investigation. The president there speaking from new york. Hes in the city for the un General Assembly on this monday speaking directly about the attacks that have happened over the weekend. One in new jersey at a charity run in seaside park, and then the other one in the city of new york in the chelsea neighborhood that injured 29 people. The suspect, Ahmad Khan Rahami, we didnt hear the president say he was in custody. He left that up to the fbi, but the New York Times reporting that that suspect has been taken into custody. Reuters also confirming he was taken into custody after a shoot out there in new jersey. Well stay on top of that development of course. Right now, the suspect believed to be in custody. We heard the president touch on familiar themes of not succumbing to fear, people especially in new york and new jersey are tough and resilient. And extremely fortunate no one was killed. We continue to follow the developing story out of new york and new jersey. We brought you the president live after a man hunt that had been going on for hours. That man hunt is now believed to be over as authorities search for the man connected to multiple bombs placed around the tristate area over the weekend. The 28yearold ahmad a hammy is said to be in custody rahami is said to be in custody. That means theyre expecting a lot of slow traffic here as you drive on the commute. We also have slow traffic this morning in other areas. So lets continue to the bay bridge toll plaza. Well tell you more about that coming up. A little bit of high clouds, most of that starting to clear off towards the south bay. Very calm, very warm today. A big drop in temps starts tomorrow. Take that history. Scrambled eggs, eight mini pancakes, a hash brown, and your choice of bacon or sausage. Its the greatest deal since the louisiana purchase. Sort of. The jumbo breakfast platter just 2. 99 for a limited time. Value, done my way. Who knew the he could rap as well. A man of many talents, Harry Connick jr. Is the host of harry, a new show on ktvu fox 2. And enters its second week starting today at 3 00 in the afternoon. Joining us live to talk about the show, the man himself, Harry Connick jr. Good morning to you from the bay area. Good morning, you all. I love the little intro we ran there. Talk about harry, just being spontaneous, how key is that for you as you enter your second week of the show . Well, as you can tell by the sub par rap performance, its very important to be spontaneous. If i had a chance to plan that out, i might have come up with a better rhyme but its fun for me to go around the studio audience and meet people and talk to them, and not have anything planned, not screen people, and preplan everything, i like to do things off the cuff and spontaneously. We have my band here every day. Im playing music with the same guys i play with when i tour, and we have a party in the middle of the day. I have celebrities, every day folks, its really a good time, and im so glad to be able to do it every day. And youre getting out of your studio a lot, surprising people, making connections all around the country. Thats right. Theres a segment on my show called i got this, and over the course of the summer, and even now, well go out to peoples houses or place of business and they wont tell me anything. They wont tell me where im going or who im going to meet, and the person im going to meet knows that a tv show is coming, but they dont know its me. We meet for the first time on camera for real, i get to know about them, and over the course of the interview, i figure out what they do for a living. We send them out for a day of relaxation and i take over their job, and i tell them i got this, and i can tell you, there are some hard working talented people in this country and it is really hard to take over for them for the day. Lots of fails on my behalf. A lot of talk shows have the staples, youve got the opening monologue, some of the gift give aways, is there anything that you told the boss there and said you know what, were not going to do it this way because of this particular reason. Preinterviewing, whatever it may be, is there something that you said hey, i dont want to do this like other talk shows do . Well, i didnt focus so much on what i didnt want to do as what i did want to do. You mentioned preinterviews, for your viewers who may not know, they do an interview before the guest gets on the show where the producers talk to the guest, work out a bunch of stories, and then they would hand the information to the host, and the host would talk about it. I wanted to make sure if somebody didnt want to do a preinterview that they didnt have to. If they wanted one, absolutely, ill talk about whatever they want to talk about, but for example, when Terrence Howard came on the other day, we didnt know what was going to happen. He ended up playing a song, and it was a song he wrote, and we didnt know it. We ended up playing and it turned out to be spontaneous and exciting for everyone because it was kind of walking a tight rope, and you didnt know exactly what to expect. I didnt talk too much about heres what i dont want to do. I just said i want my band, i want to have a party in the middle of the day, i want to have celebrities a live audience, and i want to have a good time, and they went with it. Ive been catching a little bit of it, and its fantastic, and you have been on so many late night shows, daytime shows, its great to see you on the other side. Congratulations with all the success, and take the show on the road, bring it to the bay area whenever you want. You dont have to twist my arm. Ill come out there in a second. Hopefully we can make it out there. Harry connick jr. , thank you again, appreciate your time. Watch harry, 3 00 p. M. , monday through friday, airing right here on ktvu fox 2.
