I will first show you what the ride looks like getting up to the toll plaza. That is busy. Make no mistake. Busy towards the pay gates and westbound 80 just jammed upcoming out of richmond and in towards the maze. The good news is that once youre up on the bay bridge, its a pretty good looking ride after an earlier stall that slowed things down. Across the Golden Gate Bridge from marin county to San Francisco looking nice on highway 101. And let me show you what the maps look like over for the folks who are heading over from tracy. You are still going to encounter some slowing westbound 580 into the livermore valley. That not as bad as it could be. Ktvus Paul Chambers live in the city with what you have been able to learn so far, paul. Reporter good morning, gasia. It appears that it may have been a smashandgrab. There is still a little bit of glass fragments on the ground here in the area, especially right down in here. But this boarded up window right here, that was where the criminals went in. On the other side there is a cabinet where the items they stole came from, and we are told its an estimate of 35,000 worth of items. Now, this all happened in the 400 block of jackson street here in San Francisco. The criminals made their way into the store by breaking one of the three front windows. Now, the store owner says they are still discover items that are missing. If you look at these photos, so far these are the items they say were stolen. One picture shows a candlestick from 1771. Also a sterling silver set and a picture. The items are extremely heavy and may be the reason the burglars made out with a few but very expensive items. At this time there is no information about a suspect. If you know anything about this case, you are told to call police. I will tell you what. It appears that the criminals left a flashlight. I guess that items were so heavy they dropped a flashlight and left it behind. Of course, that will be one of the things police will be focusing on. Maybe their fingerprints on there. Not sure. And im wondering, paul, i am sure the police will tell you what was taken is probably so rare and so valuable, whoever tries to sell it might run into trouble. Its not an iphone you can sell on the street . I. Reporter exactly. These are items dating back to 17th, 18th century. As i said earlier, they are extremely heavy. Thats another thing that you might want to be looking out for. Those are not like an iphone or silverware that people have in their kitchen. All right. We will see you again this morning. Controversy continues this morning over Donald Trumps response to the father of a fallen muslimamerican soldier who spoke at the democratic convention. If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably maybe she wasnt allowed to have anything to say. You tell me. Plenty of people have written that. And donald trump is also not happy with the schedule of the upcoming president ial debates. Christian fisher has the latest from washington, d. C. Reporter so were nowlis than a hundred days way from election day, which means from here on out it is all about the battleground states. Right now the latest polls show trump and clinton deadlocked in states like ohio and pennsylvania. Donald trump is kicking up bipartisan backlash on the first full week of the general election campaign. His comments about khzir khan who spoke at the dnc, his wife and their army captain muslim son killed in iraq are being criticized by everyone from the Republican Leaders of the house and senate to Hillary Clinton, who was asked about this controversy repeatedly yesterday on the campaign trail. And then to launch an attack as he did on captain khans mother, a gold star mother, i dont know where the bounds are. I dont know where the bottom is. Reporter as clinton wraps up her twoday bus tour in two key battleground states, ohio and pennsylvania, trump is preparing to hit the same states today. His campaign is planning to meet with the president on president ial debates after trump claimed two of the debates are at the same time as nfl games. Hillary clinton wants to be against the nfl. Like she did with bernie sanders, where they were on saturday nights when nobody is home. Reporter but the bipartisan Debate Commission is pushing back. They claim the schedule has been set since september, and so was the nfl, who trump claimed sent him a letter. Over the weekend a spokesman tweeted out, quote, while we wish the Debate Commission could find another night, we did not send a letter mr. Trump. Something its to watch out for. A possible october surprise from wikileaks. The founder said it will release more documents about clinton sometime between now and november. In washington, kristin fisher, fox news. With the controversy over the date of the two of the debates being at the same time as an nfl game our question of the day is this. Would you watch the nfl game or the president ial debate . Let us know what you think. Post a comment on our ktvu Facebook Page. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will not reveal how or from whom it received internal Democratic Party emails. The emails indicated that the dnc, which is supposed to be impartial during its own partys primary race, favored Hillary Clinton and possibly undermine bernie sanders. Those nearly 20,000 emails led to the ouster of dnc chair congresswoman Debbie Wasserman schultz. U. S. Officials say the russians were behind the hack attack. Hillary clinton says that would amount to russian interference in our elections. We would not tolerate that from any other country, particularly one with whom we have adversarial positions. And for trump to both encourage that and to praise putin despite what appears to be a deliberate effort to try to affect the election, i think raises National Security issues. Now, Julian Assange responded to Hillary Clintons statement saying, she is trying to undermine our publication, trying to draw attention away from the fact that she confider with Debbie Wasserman schultz to subvert an election in the united states. Time is 7 09. Happening today a big announcement is expected about the future of the track and Field Program at San Jose State University. The sunny side always on the sunny side keep on the sunny side of life keep on the sunny side always on the sunny side keep on the sunny side of life a police chase went through three counties in Southern California has ended peacefully. It started after 4 00 this morning in los angeles and it continued into orange county. You can see the car driving there. A woman behind the wheel got onto the freeway, led police to long beach. At one point she got off the freeway, drove erratically. You see what appears to be almost the end of the bumper of that car hanging off. It ended in a neighborhood in san diego county. Its about to end here. Police are able to corner the woman. They arrested her. Its not clear exactly what led up to this chase. Time is 7 13. This morning hundreds of employees who work for the Santa Clara Court system are protesting and say they are fed up with low pay. This is not a strike. The workers are telling janine de la vega who is there in san jose what they are doing next. Good morning, janine. Reporter good morning, dave. We are hearing that a strike is imminent. Let me show you what it looks like here. We are at hays mansion right now. They are picketing and protesting for the next two hours. Now, they chose this location because there is a judicial conference happening today here, and the chief justice, who is in charge of the court system in the state of california, is here, and they are hoping that they can approach her and intervene and hopefully make some sort of agreement happen so that a strike wont happen. To learn more about this situation, i am joined with tom sago. You are representing the union. Tell me, how could this possibly impact the court system today . They are supposed to be at work in a couple hours. Each person here today that is phoned into their supervisor letting them know they are going to be late today. Today is a precursor. If we are not able to come to an agreement, these folks have authorized a full strike, which would shut down the entire court system in santa clara county. Reporter tell me about what they are so upset about. They have gone eight years without a pay increase. As anybody that lives in this area knows, this is one of the most expensive places to live. They have folks that are literally couch surfing with co workers. Have lost their homes. Are really having a hard time making ends meet. And eight years without a pay increase is unacceptable. Reporter these are court clerks. What do they do . They are the folks that work inside of each courtroom. They gather up all the paperwork. They make the filings. They process the judgments, the court orders. We are finding the staff has been cut so dramatically. Eight years without a raise, they have lost a lot of workers. Piles and piles of documents are going unprocessed. Reporter thank you very much. Coming up in the next hour you will hear from somebody else from the union. We are also going to see if they do run into the chief justice while they are out here this morning to see if there is any sort of interaction, if there could be any stop to this because, as theyre saying, they are prepared to strike. Back to you. Janine de la vega. Thank you. We will check back. 7 16. Sal castaneda enjoying a day off. We turn to alex savidge for a look at the morning roads. Good morning everyone. Air quality will be improving by the end of the week as temperatures cool off. Warm inland. Not as hot as last week. Very, very foggy in San Francisco last week. That fog bank has lifted. Frederick and a couple other people said, wow, its not as foggy in the city. Out here in the sunset district, its a surprise. High pressure was just squashing it. Now that thats weakened, its allowing that fog bank to lift. Its now more of a cloyd deck. Not just fog. Low clouds a decent push inland for some. Water temps pretty warm. They came up. Its a crash captured on camera. While we were on the air, you see boom, boom, four cars slam into each other right there. This was at the toll plaza. You see it looks like that driver in the front at the last minute decided they didnt want to be in the carpool lane, and the folks behind them crashed into each other. Nobody hurt in that accident, but thats some of what happens when things are real busy at the toll plaza as they usually are. Now, well take you to our live picture here from the emeryville camera. By the way, thank you to twitter user steveo for pointing that out. Heres what things look like through berkeley westbound on interstate 80. Slow all the way out of richmond and all the way up to the maze. Well go down here and show you, boy, things are nearly at a standstill headed westbound on highway 92 across the san mateo bridge. Look at that. Very slow traffic. It frees up part way across the span. That is a very slow ride. I am going to check and make sure there is not some sort of crash on that span that might be slowing things down. As we go to the maps, a slow ride of course westbound highway 4 out of antioch and through the baypointe area. Also some slowing 680 southbound coming into walnut creek. 7 49 is the time. Steve. Send it over to you, sir. Thank you very much. We do have a little bit of info on the fire first towards big sur, Monterey County. Some of that smoke has been drifting northward towards us. It looks better towards the end of the week. I think we will get some better air quality and cooler temps to help the firefighters. Very steep rugged terrain. 18 contained. Humiditys up. Thats good. I mean, there is a lot of low clouds they can deal with there. This is an inaccessible area. Some of the smoke has been drifting northward. There is also a fire towards Southern California. The Santa Clarita fire. The smoke and haze is all over Southern California. A cooler pattern. Mainly 80s. Some 90s. 60s, 70s. I think by thursday some of these areas such as livermore, which was toasty, toasty last week. This week upper 80s maybe to near 90 tuesday, wednesday. After that 80 degrees or upper 70s if everything continues to march in as advertised. San francisco 65 58. Whats average . 67 55. The record 98 in 1993. We have to go back to 1893 to find a record low of 48 degrees. Low clouds. Water temps came up a little bit, although bodega bay and San Francisco buoy have dropped in the last three hours. West, westsouthwest, oakland, hayward. An onshore breeze. More pronounced in the delta. Cool air will make it for some of the inland areas. 60s for some temps. Water temps came up. That allows for warmer lows. But west, west, west, so looks like an onshore breeze is here for probably most of the week. Some of the low clouds which are now not as being held in check, not as restricted. Thats allowed it to lift a little bit. Does not look like that monsoon moisture will make it up to tahoe or truckee. It looks like its going to put on the brakes in Southern California. Plenty in arizona. Got within, i think, just outside knocking on the door. Now its going to be pushed off towards the east. So 60s, 70s, 80s. Inland you can find only 90s. Most locations, the trend is to bring it down. Might be a bump up, subtle changes next couple of days for inland temps. I think the coast and bay are going to be stuck in the 60s and 70s. Inland will take a tumble towards the middle end of the week, dave. Thursday, friday look cooler. Can you find any rain anywhere . Not yet. Soon. But once you get to august, maybe start looking into early september. All right. Thank you, steve. 7 51. Controversy involving the new miss teen u. S. A. Things busy around the bay area on the roadways. We are keeping an eye on trouble spots for you. This is a live look at 101 in san jose that is quite slow at this time. We will tell you about your south bay commute coming up. Well, big change this week compared to last week. Last week was about heat for many. This week cooler for many. A good fog bank out there. It will be in charge this week. K. Honey, is the internet back yet . Yes i need to let her know that i like this i like, like, like, like. I havent seen a movie based on a comic book in so long. Lets help get you out the door. Steve paulson is back, and so is the cooler weather. That is true, gasia and dave. No doubt about it. Nothing compared to last week this week. It looks of cooler, especially towards midweek. Today a pretty good fog bank out there. 60s, 70s, 80s. Low 90s far enough way from any fog influence, if you will. The trend here is to bring temperatures down. Low clouds and it looks like they have lifted up. No problem clearing these coastal hills. This should cool off, i think, the ocean temps and there is a rather fresh delta breeze. That was not the case last week. 50s, 60s on the temps. Mid 60s for a few on the mild side. The water temps inside the bay came up. 40s, 50s. Napa 49 to 58. Tahoe and truckee got close to some of that afternoon thunderstorm activity. This system is going to give us a cooler pattern and send a lot of that moisture eastward. Morning fog. Close to warm. Temperatures 60s, 70s, and mainly 80s. Alex, 8 01. Something going on at the bay bridge . At the toll plaza . There was a crash that happened earlier. It happened right there at the toll plaza. But that has been cleared out of the way. But as we take you here to a live picture of the toll plaza, it is still backed up solid all the way through the maze and pretty slow westbound 80 as well. Now, once you get past the toll plaza, the bridge itself, its a pretty good ride heading into San Francisco. Its slow. Not as bad as it could be. 101 in san jose, we arent reporting any crashes but there will be slow traffic heading up into the downtown area. And speaking of the south bay, here you go on the maps. We will show you what the scene looks like. 101 has pockets of slowing. 237 westbound over in the milpitas area, thats going to be very heavy at this time for you. Youre going to find some other pockets. No major issues in the south bay. Its certainly not as bad as it could be at this hour. 8 02. Dave, back to you. Thank you. You have got some more information about an antique robbery in San Francisco. So, paul, give us the latest from San Francisco. Reporter dave, i tell you what. It appears it was a smashand grab situation. Right here you can see that window. Its boarded up at this time, but that is where it appears the criminals went in. We are told the store owners says an estimate at 35,000 worth of items were stolen. This all happened in the 400 block of jackson street here in San Francisco. The criminals made their way into the store by breaking one of the three front windows. The store owner says they are still discovering items that are missing. We need you to take a look at these photos. So far these are some of the items they say were stolen. One picture shows a georgian sterling candlestick dated to 1771. Also a silver serving set. They are very expensive items. Now, at this time there is no information about a subject. I will tell you this right now. Police are asking if you know anything about this case to give them a call. Dave, i will also say that it appears that the criminals left a flashlight behind. Thats one thing that the officers are looking at this morning. All right. Paul chambers in San Francisco. Thank you. We will talk to you later. Time is now your time is now 8 05. Santa clara county court clerks are upset this morning and they say they are protesting and they are out protesting this morning. Hundreds of them were on picket lines. Ktvus janine de la vega live from san jose to explain what effect this will have on the courts today and maybe even longer. Good morning, janine. Reporter good morning, dave. Well, these protesters have gotten loudner the last hour. You can see there is more than 130 of them standing out here in front of the heys mansion holding their picket signs. They called in saying they are going to be late to work. Court hearings that are happening this morning may be starting late. They have already voted to strike. They have made that vote last week. It was a unanimous vote. There is about 350 of these workers. These are court clerks and janitors and legal researchers. I am joined now by with ingrid stewart. You represent the union. How soon will a strike actually happen . Well, basically, we have a strike vote that we can go out at anytime between now and the 15th of august. We have a rolling strike. So it can happen tomorrow. It can happen in a matter of a couple weeks. But we have authorization to strike by our members. Reporter this would paralyze the court system. Could is . Yes, it would. All our courts would be shut down from civil to criminal. Juvenile dependency. Family court. All of those courts would be affected by our strike. Reporter i know this has to do with pay. There hasnt been a raise, you said, in eight years. Tell me a little bit about why you wanted to do it here, and thats the main Sticking Point . Well, we know that there is a conference here of judges. Its called the California Council of judicial. And so we want to make sure that the judges and the chief justice know that we are hurting. Our members are hurting. Especially not having a raise in eight years. And we are just frustrated with the way negotiations have been going on with our courts. So we find that maybe the best way to handle this would be to let the Judicial Council know how frustrated we are. Reporter thank you very much. Ingrid stewart with the union. They are waiting for the chief justice to show up in this next hour. They want to hand her a letter, hoping she is going to intervene to prevent some sort of strike from happening. But as you heard from her, a strike is imminent, and she says it would definitely have an affect on the court system. We havent heard from the courts this morning. We know last week when we contacted them they said that they did not, you know, really want to comment as far as Something Like this in the media. Thee they would rather do it through negotiations. No new negotiations are slated at this point. Janine, before you go, its noisy, but it appears to be peaceful right now. Are the police keeping an eye on this . Reporter you know, there was a police car here earlier. It looks like it has left. But everythings been pretty peaceful. When this first started at 7 in the morning, they were actually a lot quieter and they were doing that because this is actually a hotel as well. So they were doing that out of respect for the guests. But they said at 8 00 they were ready. They were going to be loud. They want to get their point across. All right. Janine de la vega in san jose. Thank you. Time is now 8 09. The florida site of the worst mass shooting in u. S. History, the pulse nightclub in orlando, florida, will reopen, but it wont be a nightclub any more. Police say they robbed several fast food restaurants and gas stations armed with guns and knives. All the businesses were located along the same street in vacaville. The armed robberies took place during the past week. As far as vacaville, we havent seen this type of violent type takeover style robbery at this age. No one was hurt during the armed robberies. This time drawing criticism from both parties. And were keeping an eye on the roadways this morning. We will show you coming up here your commute in the east bay and we will show you about some slow spots we are tracking still at this hour. And it looks like a cooler week this week compared to last. No doubt about it. In fact, maybe bigtime cooling by the end of the week. More on that coming up. Controversy continues this morning over Donald Trumps response to the father of a fallen muslimamerican soldier who spoke at the Democratic National convention. If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably maybe she wasnt allowed to have anything to say. You tell me. Plenty of people have written that. His comments are being criticized by the Republican Leaders of the house and senate and Hillary Clinton to who was asked repeatedly about it on the campaign trail. To launch an attack as he did on captain khans mother, a gold star mother, i dont know where the bounds are. I dont know where the bottom is. Trump is also upset about the date for two of the upcoming president ial debates. They are scheduled at the same time as nfl games. Trump claimed the nfl sent him a letter expressing their displeasure. During the weekend, the nfl said they did not send a letter to donald trump. With the controversy over these dates, our question of the day is, would you watch the nfl game or the president ial debate . Let us know what you think. Meanwhile, wikileaks founder Julian Assange says his organization will protect its sources and wont reveal how or from whom it received internal Democratic Party emails. The emails indicated that the dnc, which is supposed to be impartial during its own partys primary race, favored Hillary Clinton and possibly undermine bernie sanders. Those nearly 20,000 emails led to the ouster of Debbie Wasserman schultz. U. S. Officials say the russians were behind the hack attack. Clinton says that would amount to russian interference in our elections. We would not tolerate that from any other country, particularly one with whom we have adversarial positions. And for trump to both encourage that and to praise putin despite what appears to be a deliberate effort to try to affect the election i think raises National Security issues. Julian assange responded to what Hillary Clinton said saying, she, quote, is trying to undermine our publication, trying to draw attention away from the fact that she conspired with Debbie Wasserman schultz, her former Campaign Manager who was head of the Democratic Party, to divert an election in the united states. The governor declared a state of emergency that will send money to help with cleanup and rebuilding efforts. 8 16. Lets go to alex savidge. Whats happening on highway 24 and Everything Else . 24 still slow, dave. Good morning to you. We are tracking still some slow spots in the east bay. I will show you first of all the situation if you are going to be traveling out of the walnut creek area. You are not alone. There is a live look at the 680 24 interchange. The folks on the righthand side are trying to head westbound, but its quite slow through lafayette, and then slow again through lorinda. That is going to take you a little while still. I will show you what the san mateo bridge looks like. There was an earlier accident on the span. Cleared out of the way. You see some residual slowing as folks head westbound towards the peninsula. Not too bad of a ride for the 8 00 hour. Now as we go to the maps, ill show you in the east bay, i would say that the ride on 80 westbound is improving based on what we saw earlier in the morning. It was quite slow coming out of richmond, but things seem to be improving ever so slightly as you head towards the maze and the backup at the maze not as bad as we saw it even earlier in the morning and the bay bridge itself pretty easy ride here at 8 17. Once you get onto the bridge, that is. Of course you got to once you get there. Yes. Its decent. Okay. But getting there. But getting there. Therein lies the rub. Thank you. We do have therein lies the rub of a cooler pattern this week. Much cooler than last week. In fact, i dont think we will see any 100s to the interior unless you are in the valley. Maybe for a while around the bay area. By that i mean seven, ten days, or maybe 14. Hints of low pressure digging in on the west coast and that high moving to to middle of the countries. The week for livermore it looking different than last week. Thats for sure. Sill still some 80s. Maybe upper 80s to near ninely monday tuesday. A big drop. If it doesnt happen wednesday, for sure thursday and friday. Could get upper 70s, low 80s as we head into the end of the week. So we might see our warmest temps today or tomorrow and then its going to be downhill. There is plenty of low clouds in place. Northwest, northwest, and then more of a westsouthwest out to the delta. 17 coming down a little bit, but still its an onshore breeze. Gusts over 30 earlier this morning. 60s for some. 70s for others. 63, 65, 62. Hayward a southeast breeze ander bay temps mean warmer lows for the peninsula and parts of areas around oakland down to hayward and also fremont. But 59 san ramon. 58 black lives matter. 58 pittsburg. Antioch, brentwood is close. Pleasanton 57. Not much of a change. Northwest, west, west southwest, west. Its a component of a westerly breeze. 86 las vegas. 81 phoenix. 86 palm springs. That monsoon moisture made it into the desert. It looks like its put on the air brakes. Just didnt make it to tahoe and truckee. This time of year they have pretty good boomers. Not the case. That system right there, there will be two, one digging in. Thats going to lower heights, as we say. That will keep the cooling trend going and a stronger trend will carve itself out by the end of the week. Morning low clouds, fog, nice to mild to warm, unless you get anything over 75. Then hot. Its going to take a couple of days to clear down the ukiahs and clear lakes. Most locations dropping. A few low, low 90s. I mean, this time of year thats not too hard do for some. Much cooler than last week. Thats for sure. Temperatures near average for many to maybe even slightly to well below by the time we get towards the end of the week. So dave and gasia, by thursday and friday i think you will see a huge drop on a lot of those temps. Steve, thank you. You bet. A massive fire in Monterey County has destroyed 50 homes. This is the second apology Draymond Green has issued in the past month. You remember three weeks ago he was arrested on Assault Charges in michigan. The charges were dropped when he agreed to pay a fine for a noise violation. The 49ers held their first practice of Training Camp over the weekend. The big story this year is the battle for starting quarterback. Lane gabbers took over the job for Colin Kaepernick last season. I think first and foremost is just who can move the team the best. Thats what you are looking for. Which quarterback can handle what theyre doing and get the team in the end zone. The great thing about it is we are confident in both those guys. The 49ers first preseason game is in two weeks against houston. Golfer jimmy walker is celebrating his first major title. For many. 60s on the temps. Southeast breeze bringing up the smell of garlic in the san jose area. Low 60s sfo, oakland. 50s to the north. Peninsula temps on the mild side. That southeast breeze helps with warmer bay temps. I think those will go down the end of the week. A cooler pattern in place. There is that southeast at san jose. Sierra nevada looks good. That monsoon moisture didnt make it. Got close, but this system and another one behind that are going to usher in a much cooler pattern over the next five to seven days. Morning fog. Nice to mild to warm here. Breezy to windy for a few. But near average on the temps. They would come way down. They will settle in right here. Mainly 60s, 70s, and 80s. Alex, 8 30. Always good of you, steve, to take those weather requests. Happy to do it. Very generous of you. My pleasure. The forecast looking good this week. Nice and comfortable compared to last week. The roadways, we have some slow spots around the bay area. One of them is highway 4. I will show you here westbound right there on the lefthand side of your screen, those folks are coming over from baypointe and pittsburg and still a slow ride after an earlier crash at port chicago highway. Got cleared out of the way. Residual slowing there. At the toll plaza this is what you are going to find. It is still stacked up well through the maze. Youre going to find once you get past the pay gates, the ride up the incline portion of the bay bridge, its a bit slow. After that it frees up heading into San Francisco. I will show you on the maps here what it likes on westbound 80. We have had problems all morning. Its been improving. Now we have another crash westbound 80 at San Pablo Dam road that has just come in. Now we may have some slowing in that area westbound 80, San Pablo Dam in the Richmond San Pablo area. 8 32 is the time. Gasia, back over to you. Police in marin county are stepping up patrols after a dangerous discovery made along a trail. Bikers found what looked like a homemade spike strip on the mound near wood acre. Ktvus brian flores live there now with how this may be connected to a long running dispute. Reporter yeah, thats what were hearing, gasia. The person who found it told a local newspaper that this homemade spike strip was a message directly intended for Mountain Bikers in the area. Now, take a look now at what this looks like. This was posted on facebook. According to reports it was found last tuesday by two bikers riding off a trail again in the whites hill open space preserve. Its been described as four feet long with more than 30 rusty screws sticking out of it. Its also been reported at least in the chronicle that the people who found it say it was fastened to the ground with 7inch spikes. Now, the rider apparently took it home so other Mountain Bikers would not get hurt. Its unclear who left it or how long its been there. Some say its about sharing the trails between Mountain Bikers, hikers and horse riders. Quite frankly, it is getting crowded. We have a beautiful, fabulous area, but we are not good at sharing it. At least not yet. Not all of it. So i think there is bad actors in all of the different camps and there is great people in all the camps as well. Reporter in the meantime, Mountain Bike groups and hiking groups have come out denouncing the spike strip that was found. There has been other reported obstructions on the trail in the past few months over the years, including inauthorized signs. Logs on the trail. Even reports of rebar on the trail as well. By the way, marin county sheriffs deputies say they are increasing patrols in the area to find out the person responsible and to keep the trails safe. Back to you. Thank you. Calfire has contained a fire that broke out in santa clara county. The sierra fire started saturday night. They say the flames were probably started when a lawn mower blade hit a rock. Then the fire was pushed by light winds through the dry glass and 114 acres burned. Thats not much, but firefighters say its a good example of how a lot of small fires can keep fire crews very busy during very hot weather. Statistically this year we are higher as far as fire count than last year. We got some rain. With the rain we get a little bit of grass crop. Your grass crop is whats really carrying the fire. Calfire also says the fire moved slowly, so it was easier to contain. Two young men are facing trespassing charges after police say they climbed the 525 foot tower of the bay bridge. Up next we sit down and talk live with the police chief of emeryville about the incident and her Upcoming Trip to the white house to discuss policing strategies. Plus, still a slow commute for many around the bay area this morning. We will show you what the ride looks like coming into the city from marin county. Also about your east bay commute on interstate 80 when we return. Friday night two Emeryville Police officers are nearly hit by gunfire. Yeah, bullets ricocheted off the ground, lodged into a nearby building. Joining us live in the studio is Emeryville Police chief Jennifer Tejada too talk about that and a trip to washington, d. C. Later this week. Thank you for coming in. First of all, what happened in emeryville friday night with that . On friday night we had two officers out on foot patrol following an alarm call, and they saw something hit the ground about 50 feet in front of them. Ricochet off the ground and move off into the leaves of the tree and then land in a near a building. So they went over. They retrieved a 9millimeter bullet. While i dont think that the officers were the target of this shooting, it does illustrate that officer safety is always on our minds, thatter we a out there that we are out there at night when everybody is sleeping protecting the neighborhoods, walking around. It just illustrates that, you know, we have to be vigilant. We have to protect our officers. Make sure that they have the training and the equipment to protect themselves. We are operating in a climate where they feel like there is a target on their back. So even though this was what i believe not targeted at them, its just a reminder of the dangers of this profession. Are your officers doing anything differently now in the wake of a in am of Police Shootings around the country . Absolutely. We are highlighting officer safety tactics. We have put them in paired patrols. I have personally sat down with the squads and shared with them, you know, my pride in what they do. My concern about their safety and that going home at the end of their shift is the most important thing to me as their chief, and i think many chiefs share that sentiment. All chiefs, probably. And we just have to be always mindful about training. , training and equipment to do their job. You are heading to the white house on wednesday. Youre going to be gathering with other Police Chiefs from around the country. What is this white house gathering for . Its one of many. The president , back in december of 2014, called a task force together, and the task force was charged with developing some strategies around 21st Century Policing. And in three months they came out with this report. The 21st Century Policing strategies report. And we have been reading this document. Its quite an extensive document. But the foundation of this report is six pillars of what is considered the sign posts to how we get to where we need to be. What we ought to be doing in policing to serve our communities in a way that meets their expectations and standards that creates trust in policing, legitimacy in what we do, Community Policing at the heart of what we do, officer safety and wellness, looking at technology and strategies to make sure we are benefiting from technology, as well as learning how to address crime that involves technology. Social media. How do we use social media to create that transparency and that relationship with our communities . So its all of those things that are so important that i think all of us have been doing all along. We just didnt formalize it in a guide to take us and continue to keep us on this path of good solid policing strategies. Youre coming up on one year as police chief in emeryville. Before that you were in sausalito. Two relatively small cities in the middle of big urban areas. What specifically from your experience would you like to take to the white house . Well, i want to take that, you know, leadership . In policing today is really common sense. I have learned now you know, my fifth year as a chief. Its common sense around what we all know what do. We know we should be treating everybody with respect. As i grew up professionally in policing, that was my guiding principle. And being a part of the fabric of the communities that we serve is hugely important to being successful in policing. My former chief, brian brady, retired from novato, really taught knee the concepts of communityoriented policing. Inviting the community into our department. Partnering with them. Identifying the problems. Partnering with the solutions. Implementing those strategies together. Its really the foundation of how we move forward in a way that brings the community and the police together, and not divisive like what were seeing now. Can i ask you real quick before we have to go, do you expect to have a facetoface with the president himself . I would leave to. I want to know what happened at the conference at the white house. We will talk to you afterwards. Thank you so much. Chief Jennifer Tejada of emeryville. Thank you for coming in. Some slowing there once you get past the toll plaza. But it frees up towards the peninsula across the san mateo bridge. Now i want to show you in emeryville, as you head towards the maze, this is eastshore freeway. Can you see right there still pretty heavy coming through berkeley right now and out of richmond, but we are seeing that things are starting to free up just a bit westbound 80 in the richmond area. So that is certainly good news as you head out the door here. And ill show you the maps, and you can see what im talking about there. We had heavy slowing on westbound 80 for much of the morning heading up to the toll plaza, but things beginning to free up just a bit. Some slowing on the incline portion of the bay bridge once you get past those pay gates. But then into San Francisco not too bad of a ride at 8 49. Steve, good morning to you. Thank you, sir. Good morning to you. All right. We have a cooler pattern in place. A lot of low clouds and fog and temperatures coming down. Last week was a hot one for those away from the coast. Cupertino in there. 60, 61, 62. There is your southeast san jose. Westsouthwest. Northwest. West. I know its not much. Its a little westerly component. Once that low clouds burn off, sunny to nice to mild to warm. 52 truckee. 57 ukiah. Monterey warmer. 86. Palm springs, las vegas, phoenix a cool 81. Lots of monsoon cloud cover there. Some that have made it into Southern California. The southern sierra. It just didnt quite make it up to tahoe and truckee. Got close, but it looks like thats it. That system right there dropping down here. It will brush a lot of that moisture away. Looks good in the mountains and a much cooler pattern for us. Morning fog. Nice to mild to warm. That breeze picks up once that low cloud deck cools off. 60s to 90s. Haze. Smoke in the air with that big sur fire and also in Southern California. Very, very smoky and hazy down there. 60s, 70s to a few low 90s.
