Some areas along the coast will get some sun, as they did yesterday, but it will take longer to warm up. You get the west wind, usher in that fog, you 50s for everybody here. Upper 40s for a few. Woodside, a cool 47. 50 in stanford. Nenlo park at 51. Right in the ballpark there. Picking up again, 25 to 30 miles per hour. So no change there. The big moment everybody is talking about from yesterday is a speech by Donald Trumps wife, Melania Trump. This is the first time that many heard from the potential first lady. It is a big deal. That speech is controversial. It is. Some people noticed that parts of her speech are word for word almost what Michelle Obama says. They are right now responding to the controversial. The Campaign Calls accusations of plagiarism by Melania Trump, simply absurd. She said she wrote the speech herself with the help of a few writers. She made the case for her immigration status. But some passages are seemingly strikingly similar to the speech delivered by Michelle Obama. You work hard for what you want in life. But your work is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise that you treat people with respect. You work hard for what you want in life. That your word is your bonds, that you say what youre going to do, that you treat people with dignity and respect. Reporter should say here that the campaign responded to the controversy over that speech. They put out a statement and talked about how she worked with a team of writers and was speaking about her Life Experience coming to america from slovenia and, again, they are denying accusations of plagiarism this morning. And, in fact, we just heard a short time ago from a representative from the Trump Campaign speaking out about. This he said that these are, in his words, common phrases and common values that tend to be used quite a bit he does not see any plagiarism here but, of course, there is a dig controversy, dustup. Thats what everybody is talking about. Thats what everybody is talking about this morning. The campaign has to deal with that now. Okay, alex. We supposed the question to you this morning. Some are calling it the most conservative platform ever. On social issues, the platform reject same sex marriage and transgender bathroom choices. The cornerstone of the family is marriage between one man and one woman. Uc berkeley says that the platform is nonbinding so wont have a big impact on the Donald Trumps policies. By allowing the conservative base to put it again, it apieces appeases them and maybe allows them to stomach the no, maam station of donald trump. The platform states that a border wall must cover the entirety of the southern border and must be sufficient to stop both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. A very tense scene in san leandro. Several Law Enforcement agencies chasing a carjacking suspect. Here is how it started and ended, brian. Reporter hi, dave. About half a mile west of highway 80, near the shell station, behind me is the aftermath of that carjacking and chase from earlier this morning. You can see the skid marks on the roadway and a knocked down pedestrian sign from earlier this morning. I want to go to video showing you the scene from earlier this morning where Hayward Police and Alameda County sheriff chased a carjacking suspect, at least three of them from what i understand. This started before 2 00 in the morning. The suspects carjack carjacked a victim at a toysrus store. The car, at least according to the video that we have seen, pretty badly damaged on the passenger side. The suspects ran away into the neighborhood and Law Enforcement set up a trim ter, went door to door looking for them, even bringing a canine unit, at least from what we have seen. Two of the suspects were taken away first by ambulance for unknown injuries and also Law Enforcement official has to bring out their guns as well because they were unsure if the suspects were armed. It remains unclear of the suspects conditions, also remains unclear the carjacking victim. We did try to speak with the shell owner here, tried to get some Surveillance Video but, unfortunately, the cameras were not pointed into the street area but only into the shell station here. We are not able to see what happened. We reached out to several Law Enforcement agencies, including the Alameda County sheriff but we have not heard back. Brian flores in san leandro, thank you. Seems like the workweek for everyone, backed up for a 20 to 25 minute delay. Traffic on 880 is not that bad. Thats the approach if you have fast track. Highway 4 at 242 which is slightly out of camera view, but right in this area here. Right there. There is a reported crash in the Center Divide and even though its not causing a huge backup, i can already see traffic getting a little bit slow in that area. Police in baton rouge have released new Surveillance Video taken in the minutes before six Law Enforcement officers were gunned down sunday morning. The video shows the suspects targeting police. One African American officer and two white officers died. The sisterinlaw of Montrell Jackson is speaking out about the ongoing circle of violence. Black lives matter, obviously, and all lives matter but killing one another is not going to help anything. The suspect who came from missouri to baton rouge was killed by police. Police are trying to figure out where he bought the handguns and the rifle he used in the shooting. Officers from across the state are gathering for michael krols funeral near detroit in redford township. The service is set to begin in about two hours. The 40yearold krol was one of five officers killed on july 7th when working to protest protect a group of protesters in dallas the Police Shootings has many officers on edge and very nervous. A ktvu crew spent the day with veteran San Jose Police officer robert payne, a 25year veteran. He says that putting on the uniform is harder lately. He wants you to know that police are people first and most often are a little scared. He gets emotional when he says that police know their job is still to protect the public. A group of burglars pulled in a maserati and broke into a home. The Surveillance Video images capture a number of images of the people who broke into this house. Then just yesterday, Oakland Police spotted a maserati and chased it. The vehicle crashed into a fence. Looks like the car in the Surveillance Video from the burglary. We cannot confirm it as the exact same maserati. The names of those arrested have not been released. Its unclear if they were linked to any burglary. The warriors another step closer to building a new San Francisco arena. A superior court judge ruled that the Environmental Review is adequate. The group called the Mission Bay Alliance several several lawsuits saying that the warriors did not look at other locations. They claim that it will cause traffic jams and block streets around ucsf. The group has five days to decide if they will appeal. The warriors say they look forward to breaking ground soon and hope to open the new arena in 2019. There may be more trouble for a former playboy model whose locker room photo went viral for the wrong reasons. She came under fire for body shaming. She posted a photo of a woman. You have to get far inland to get the 80s. Far, chilly this morning. Beautiful in miraga. No complaints. As long as you are happy. Other people would like it warmer. Wait for the second. Plenty cool here, low clouds, onshore breeze, onshore breeze, west at 8, west at 8, west at 9. 50s on the temps, low to mid 50s. If we can carry this pattern into september and october, i would say there is rain underway but this time of the year, its drizzle. San mateo bridge, most getting to that span before you actually make it on to the bridge on 92. Getting out to hayward, getting to the highrise. It does get better as you go through the area. If you ride bart, there will still be fake security cameras on board for a while. New cameras wont be ready on all trains until next year. Ktvus janine de la vega is live at a bart station. You talked to people. What do they say . Riders are concerned. They say its taking a long time. With all the violence going on in the world, they say that security is important. Most riders didnt realize that the majority the security cameras on the train and those rail cars are fake. This came to light a few months ago when a 19yearold man was killed on a bart station. There is camera on board, but they were not working. The agency promised to install real cameras. There was no timetable given. So far, two cameras have been installed. In the meantime, engineers have been testing the equipment to see what two two works best. Im concerned about that im about that. I am worried about the safety. Reporter bart is going to ask the board of directors for 500,000 to buy the rest of the equipment needed by september a spokeswoman says that cameras should be installed some time in 2017. Keep in mind that these new cameras are going to be for barts Current Fleet of trains. The agency plans on replacing and expanding that fleet with new cars that already come with modern Surveillance System capable of recording live video. Those are expected to roll between 2017 and 2021. So is bart spending all of its money on trains that are only going to be used for certain period of time since its going to be replaced with this brand new fleet of trains . We asked bart that. They want to know if its connected to a shooting on campus. The first was outside campus at channing and ellsworth. The second and house and Piedmont Avenue. Pellets smashed a large glass window at the international house. Students heard as many as seven shots. One student was hit in the face near his left eye. Students quickly ducked behind a cement wall when the shooting started. It takes five to ten seconds to realize that there was someone standing with a gun, sprinting towards the ice house and then started shooting. Two people opened fire from a white four door car in the other shootings. The victim was not hurt seriously and did not need any medical attention. Today is day 2 of the Republican National convention. People are still talking about the speech made by Donald Trumps wife, Melania Trump. Caroline has more on the speech. As president , i will bring the full weight of the law to bear and making sure that those who kill Police Officers are brought to justice. Mrs. Clinton carefully supported Law Enforcement while trying not to alienate black lives matter movement. Next week in philadelphia, they will highlight the mothers of the sons who died in Police Custody. They will speak on the same night as former president bill clinton. In the California Senate race, state attorney general Kamala Harris has picked up two big endorsementings. Vice President Biden and president barack obama endorsed her. The new commission will hold public hearings, have the ability to review Police Policies and proposed changes to the city council. Their vote is not likely until next week. New this morning, there was a tense situation in san leandro where there was a carjacking and a police chase reporter lets set the scene quickly on east 114 and bancroft. But as we go to video now, new information again, we are learning more on the details of what happened. We spoke with Hayward Police a few minutes ago. This started at about 1 30 this morning at a toysrus store. They told us that two women were dropping off donations at kiosk or bin near that store. Thats when Police Say Three African American male jew nights, one with a gun carjacked the victims and their car. The police was immediately called. They spotted the car not too long after. They chased the suspects and the car crashed right near where we are standing, about a half mile west of i80 in san leandro. Two of the suspects were taken into custody. A third ran from the scene where police and deputies setup a perimeter. A canine officer spotted the suspect near a home and that person was taken into custody. All three suspects were evaluated at the scene as a precaution because of the crash but they are expected to be okay. Victims in this case are expected to be okay, but shaken up a little bit. The scene has been cleared here. We are learning about a berkeley father and daughter who drowned off the coast of oahu. The victims are identified as 46yearold mark horner and his sixyearold daughter minna. Friends are posting condolences messages on the mothers facebook page. Reports are that a little girl fell off the boat and the father jumped to save her but both were swept away. The coast guard found them later but they were unresponsive. They were tank to the hospital taken to the hospital and later died. And Surveillance Video has been released on the ambush of the Police Officers in baton rouge. Honestly, you know, black lives matter, i support that. All lives matter as well. But killing one another is not going to help anything. The suspect who came to baton rouge from missouri was killed by police. Investigators are now trying top find out where he bought the two rifles and one handgun used in that shooting. One of the Dallas Police officers killed in the ambush sniper attack will be laid to rest this morning in his home state of michigan. Officers from across the state gathered for michael krols funeral near detroit. The 40yearold krol is one of five Police Officers killed on july 7th, while working to protect a group of protesters in dallas. A separate service for krol was held last week in dallas. The shootings of police in dallas and baton rouge has many Police Officers on edge. We spent the day with San Jose Police officer robert payne. He says that he has more trouble putting on the uniform every day. He became emotional when he wanted to let the public know that his job is to protect the public. I dont put that on to hurt people. The big moment that people are talking about is the speech from Donald Trumps wife. It was the first time that many had heard from her. And that speech ran into some controversy this morning. Some people in the that had parts of her speech were almost word for word what Michelle Obama had to say in the 2008 convention. Reporter the Trump Campaign is denying plagiarism but when you listen closely to two parts of her speech, they mirror very closely what Michelle Obama had to say. Well play them simultaneously.
