Sal, thank you. We have an update. Breaking news in martinez. That Apartment Fire we have been telling you about, the fire is now under control. It started at an apartment on arnold drive just after 5 00. Look at the picture it is. Firefighters say at one point, four apartments were fully engulfed in flames. Eight units total were damaged but thankfully no one was hurt. The biggest challenge for us was that the fire was very large when we got here. It had already fully consumed one unit. Another unit was fully involved as well. It was spreading to two additional units. The way that the access is to the complex and where the complex is located was also a bit of a challenge. The red cross is now helping these folks. They have been displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire still under investigation. 7 03. A new york corrections official in Critical Condition. In 15 minutes, a very dangerous delivery at his home that is now under investigation. And just a heartbreaking scene here as several boats full of refugees capsized in the Mediterranean Sea. At least 1000 people are dead. New this morning, an aid group that helps refugees in iraq say that a human catastrophe is happening in fallujah where 50,000 people are trapped as the fighting there intensifies. Iraqi forces are trying to retake fallujah from isis. There is no safest safe escape group for the refugees. They are begging both sides to let the refugees go. And boats capsized that left libya headed for italy. The death toll will go up because only some of the bodies have been found and recovered. At least 40 of those killed were children. The italian navy helped with the rescue operation and one survivor talked about what happened on his ship. It was very hard because the water was coming from everywhere from down and from up. We tried for more than six hours, and then we said, it is not possible anymore. Italian officials said that more than 13,000 migrants have been rescued just since last week. The search continues for two oakland teenagers believed to have drowned during family boating trip in stanislaus county. Classes in Novato High School are back this morning for the First Time Since last weeks attack where one student was killed and another one was hurt. Ktvus alex savidge is there with more on whats being done to helped students today. Reporter this is a campus thats in mourning as students return to class for the First Time Since that attack. We tried speaking with some students and many of them have been reluctant to talk and understandably so. The first period got underway here a short time ago. This is the first time that the students are coming back here since that deadly shooting last week that left a student dead and another wounded and two students were taken into custody in connection with that crime. Now, it was last wednesday when 17yearold student Edwin Guerrero was found stabbed and shot to death in a walking trail and a 17yearold student was found injured in that same scene but wound up surviving his injuries. A day later, two 17yearold Novato High School students were arrested for that kismght on sunday, over the Holiday Weekend, authorities arrest add 20yearold man as an accessory after the fact to this crime. The Sheriffs Office says that a third novato high student is still outstanding and wanted in connection with that deadly shooting. We talked to the principal about the help that will be able to students. The school is a safe place to be. Novato high is a very safe place to be. Ive been very impressed with the principal and assistant principals and the teachers. Reporter a very, very difficult time for students, teachers, Staff Members. As far as motive for last weeks attacks, investigators are looking into the possibility that it was related to a Sexual Assault involving two students that happened just a week earlier. One Novato High School student is still out there and is wanted in connection with this attack. As students return to class here after the memorial day weekend and, again, they are returning to class but they will be getting quite a bit of help. Grief counselors will be available to talk. Meantime, the Novato Police department is facing discrimination and harassment claims by two veteran officers. The marin independent journal reports that the lawsuit was filed earlier this month in federal court claiming that a lieutenant discriminated against two of his support nats because one was guy and one was a woman. A lawyer for that lieutenant denies the allegations. The Police Department told the paper that an outside independent investigation turned up nothing to back up the claims. That lawsuit is due to be heard in august. Three senior veterans came to the rescue of a woman attacked at a Sonoma County cemetery on memorial day. The attack happened at the sebastopol memorial lawn. A santa rosa woman became upset when she could not find a family members gravesite. For whatever reason, she turned her anger to another daughter who was talking to her daughter in a foreign language. Three veterans saw the attack as they were getting ready for a ceremony and tackled that woman. The woman ran away, but police found her later. A gun and badge were stolen from the car of an fbi agent. The breakin happened sunday at 12 30 in the afternoon. A 40 caliber glock 27 hand gun was stolen along with a panel and other fbi credentials. Sources confirm to cust, the fbi agent is from out of state. This is the lateness a series of incidents where guns were stolen from fbi agents. The agency had not said if that agents will be punished. Earlier, an fbi agent had three guns stole french a locked box. And a gun stolen from a federal ranger was used to shoot and kill kate steinle. A corrections officer in new york state remains in Critical Condition after a package delivered to his home exploded. The officer was just opening up the package when it blew up in his hands. He has serious burns to his hand and arms and is being treated at a hospital in syracuse, new york. The doctors are monitoring his condition. He is in Critical Condition. But we keep our fingers crossed and we pray for the best. The state department of corrections says that its not clear yet if the explosion has anything to do with the 52year old officers work. The state says at this point that every possibility is being investigated a lockdown at the white house is a now lifted after somebody threw a suspicious item at the fence. It happened shortly after president obama came back from speaking at the arlington cemetery. A woman threw a metal object along the north fence of the white house on pennsylvania avenue, the secret service said. The woman was detained. A hazmat team came to investigate. That items turned out not to be that item turned out not to be hazardous. People who flew over the Holiday Weekend said that there were fewer problems than expected. The Transportation Security Administration credits extra screeners and canine teams for speeding along the process. Passengers at a few airports, including sacramento and denver did say they experienced long waits. Time is 7 39. In southeast texas, evacuations have happened for people along the Colorado River because of flooding there. More reaction by the cincinnati zoo to take the life of a gorilla at the cincinnati zoo to save the life of a child. Protesters have made demands. The takes on social media have been harsh. Criticism for the zoo and the mother. Some protesters are calling for the mother whose child fell into that gorilla enclosure to be charged in some way for the animals death. They are calling on social services to investigate. Thousands of people have signed an online petition for a new law to protect endangered zoo animals. The zoo says that killing that gorilla was necessary to save the child. Wildlife expert, jack hannah also says that the zoo made the right call. He says that the gorilla was obviously dragging the boy around and could have easily killed him. He said that this is a decision that needs to be made in milliseconds but that human life over animal life is what is right. That, again, from jack hannah. Some people are also suggesting that the remaining gorillas should be placed in sanctuary away from people but, again, dave and gasia, this debate is very emotional. I think what Everyone Wants is a more clear investigation of the zoo enclosure people are asking, how did that child get under there . Whether the mom was watching closely her child and taking her eye away. I did see a report where a witness says that the child was screaming, mommy, im going in that cage and mommy said, no, youre not, yes, i am. No, youre not. As a parent, you know, my kids are bigger now and even when they were little, i mean, they didnt really run away from me very much but as a parents, would you like to think that the zoos enclosure, any zoos enclosure would not be easily accessible to a kid even if they got away from you for a moment. Some days are better, others are worse we are looking at hayward to union city and the traffic on southbound 880 is going to be slow all the way down to docoto road. Thats about a 20 to 25 minute delay. Hopefully this will start clearing out a little bit but that 880 ramp on the left over, there you can see it coming down to the toll plaza, still very full. 7 37. Still no word of a motive. Police in modesto arrested a 17yearold in connection with another driveby shooting that left a 13yearold girl dead and injured her 15year old brother sunday night. Police say that the brother and sister were outside of their home when a car pulled up and someone started shooting. 139yearold girl was the 13 yearold girl was shot and later died. Her brother was also shot but he is expected to live. The suspect was arrested at his home later on. A fire may have been caused by a weed wacker near fountain drove parkway. No one was hurt. People in the area should avoid weed whacking after 10 00 a. M. For during high danger. A mansion came on to the market and some call it a really sweet deal. Tell us how the school is helping students cope. Dave, good morning to you. This School Community has been shaken by last weeks deadly attack. Authorities say that a Novato High School student was killed by several of his class mates. The exact motive remains unclear. But this was quite clearly a very difficult morning for students and Staff Members as they return to the high school here and class got underway for the first time. This was the scene after 7 00 this morning. Students began to arrive for the first period of classes. The principal and other Staff Members were on hand outside of the school to greet students. We do understand there will be a number of grief counselors here on the campus today for any students who need help or need to talk about what happened. It was last wednesday when 17 yearold student he had Edwin Guerrero was found stabbed and shot. A second student was found at that scene. He was injured but is your side of the attack. Two Novato High School students were arrest. And a 20yearold man was arrested as an accessory after the fact. This has been an incredible difficult time for the School Community. To see such a young life loss is brutal. This community has pulled together. Out of every tragedy, you get some mazing things that happen. As far as the motive here, investigators will only say that they are looking into the possibility this attack last week was somehow related to a Sexual Assault involving two students that happened a week earlier. In the meantime, we understand that the Sheriffs Office is still looking for a third Novato High School student wanted for last weeks attack. Students are arriving here for the First Time Since the shooting happened. Grief counselors are here hoping to help students with the sudden loss of a classmate. An investigation is underway after a gun and badge were stolen from an fbi agents car. A 20 caliber glock was stolen along with a badge. The fbi agent is from out of state. This is the latest in a series of incidents in which guns were stolen from Law Enforcement hire in the bay area. The fbi is not saying whether the agent will face any sanctions. Another fbi agent had three guns stole french a lock box in a car parked. And the most high profile one was when a park ranger had his gun stolen which was used to kyle kate steinle. More than 3000 people are upset about the shooting of a gorilla at the cincinnati zoo and they signed an online petition for a new law to protect endangered zoo animals after a gorilla at the cincinnati zoo was killed over the weekend after this happened. A fouryearold boy fell into the gorilla enclosure and was dragged around by the gorilla for about ten minutes. The zoo says that killing the gorilla was necessary to save the childs life. Wild life experts jack hannah says that the zoo made the right call but some people say there should be a new law that will hold the zoo or parent responsible in similar situations. Some people are calling for the remaining gorillas to be placed in a sanctuary away from people. Time is 8 36. An aid group that helps refugees in iraq says that a human catastrophe is happening right now in fallujah. Thats where 50,000 people are trapped as the fighting there intensifies.
