Lets go back to the news desk. Topping the news, the city council of pittsburg is trying to take action to top the spread of shooting on the freeway. Alex savidge is there with what people think. Reporter people here are understandably on edge with the recent shooting series there. People home that the cameras will make a difference. The city of pierceburg will install as many as ten cameras right along the freeway, along the stretch of freeway. The police chief has pushed for these cameras to help deter these shootings. Pittsburg already have cameras in place at city streets and parks. The City Council Approved the installing of more cameras. The ongoing violence along the free way here in this area is likely gang related. The victims are being targeted. Still, people who drive highway 4 say they are concerned and they are hoping that these surveillance cameras can help. It should hopefully slow it down a little bit. But people around here do what they want. If theyre going to shoot on the free way, theyll shoot anywhere. You dont think that cameras will deter that . No. I would like them to but i think its more for the speeding. Reporter and the latest car tocar shooting in this area happened just yesterday afternoon close by in antioch. People in a couple of different cars exchanged gunfire with each other in the middle of the freeway. Fortunately, nobody was hit. In the en, authorities did take four people in custody in connection with that particular gun battle that happened here on the freeway just yesterday. Just the latest episode of violence here in the city of pittsburg taking action here. Gassa, the council hags ear marked 100,000 to install the cameras here along the stretch of highway. Whats unclear is when those cameras will be up and running. The man you interviewed, steve, referenced that he thought they were going to be used for just speeding. Will they be used for hisser infractions or just the big incidents that we have seen . The city leaders here in pittsburg say that the focus here is to stopped ongoing violence that we have seen along the freeway. Certainly, if the city and police have access to these cameras, there is a possibility that they may catch other crimes that will be taking place but its unclear if thats what cameras are going to be used for. The suspect stabbed the man in the torso and got off the bus. At this point, no arrests have been made time is now 7 06. A fourth Oakland Police officer has been put on paid administrative leave because of an investigation into possible misconduct involving sex with a young girl. The investigation started last fall after an officer committed suicide. He reportedly left behind a note detailing accusations of Sexual Activity between Police Officers and a girl who was apparently 16 years old at the time. The Police Department has not identified any of the officers who are on leave. A San Francisco Police Officer has been arrested accused of committing overtime fraud. 41yearold dean lee turned himself in yesterday booked into jail on five felony charges. Reporter the buses left about 40 minutes oogz and they were packed with a lot of passionate and curious people. The focus was on education. Now, hundreds of local School Board Members and pta members, students and teachers, they gathered in the parking lot of the eastern mall for this legislative day of action. Many have never met any state legislators but wanted to go to see how policies can become law and how they can become part of that process. Some students will make the the trip. Im really concerned about the rising costs of College Tuition because im going to go to College Next Year and im concerned about underfunded k 12 because my brothers and sisters are enrolled in elementary and high school respectively and i want them to do the best they can. The annual bus trip has been held because he wants teachers and legislators to meet face to face. They are not bashful. They get right in the face of each legislator and say this is what its like, this is what we need and this is what we dont want our younger brothers and sisters to go through. Sometimes, its negative but its important in sacramento when they are dealing with lobbyists, professionals, day in and day out to hear from actual teachers and actual students. Those attending will get a few of the capitol and get a chance to ask questions to policy makers. The Alameda County fire station responded to reports of a stabbing. Thats all we know right now. As we get more information, well let you know. A dog groomer working at the petsmart san mateo is in custody after a dog died in his care. When we speak to the family and we spoke to the family and friends of the dog groomer, they say its uncharacteristic of him. And when they spoke to him, they didnt know how he died. They speak to police and they think that his involvement was no accident. The owner of a oneyearold dachshund named henry brought him into the store. He was taken by juan zarate. He came out of the area three minutes later and said that he was having some sort of emergency. The dog could not be revived. The vet did a post mortem xray and found that the dachshund had two broken ribs and a punctured lung. After further investigation, San Mateo Police say that zarates actions likely contributed to the dogs death and he was charged with felony animal cruelty. A zarate family spokesperson says this is uncharacteristic of him and that he is a caring dog owner himself. He said he didnt know what was going on and that they said that he choked the dog. He said, i didnt kill the dog. The comes are here. It was not it was not a conversation like hes going to he was just like, blurting all this out because he didnt do. This he was in shofnlgt he didnt know what was going on. San Francisco Police are investigating a stabbing that happened on a muni bus happening about 1 30 on 9th and market street. The two had an interaction. The suspect stabbed the victim on the torso and got off the bus. The victim has no life threatening injuries. Right now, the city council of pittsburg want to take action to put cameras to stop some freewayshootings reporter we talked about. This we talked about how difficult it has been for police to solve many of these freeway shootings. Very few witnesses come forward in these cases. Its also very easy for the people responsible to make a getaway, especially on the free way. Now, city of pittsburg is taking action, keeping a closer watch on this particular stretch of freeways. The plan is to approve up to ten surveillance cameras. The police chief here pushed for these cameras to help deter more of the freeway shootings and there have been a number. Pittsburg already have surveillance cameras in place on streets and city streets. The Council Unanimously approved those plans to install them along highway 4. The ongoing violence along the stretch of free way seems to be gangrelated. The victims are being targeted. This is not random violence but, still, for police, making arrests has been very difficult in many of these casings. They know there is no cameras now to catch them. Like they were saying, they know they can get a quick get away. Now well feel a little more safer. Hopefully theyll be able to catch those people being involved, because a lot of us are starting to get afraid of driving on the freeway. We dont know if well be involved in the cross fire. Reporter that is the concern for police even though people are being targeted in the shootings. The latest cartocar shooting in this area happened just yesterday afternoon. People in two different cars exchanged gunfire in the middle of the freeway. The good news in all of that is that no one was hit and also police came and arrested four people. Four people were taken into custody in connection with that shootout yesterday afternoon nearby in antioch. As far as the plan here in pittsburg, the counsel ear marked about 100,000 for the surveillance cameras. At 8 32, back to the desk. All right, sal a dog groomer working in a san Mateo Petsmart is now behind bars. He is accused of animal cruelty to a dog. We spoke to the family of the dog groomer. They say that he is a dog owner himself and this is very extremely unusual. Im standing here outsite the petsmart off el kamino in san mateo. The oneyearold dachshund was brought by his owner here. He was taken in the back by juan zarate. But he came out three minute later bleeding at the mouth. The he was taken to the vet but could not be revived. The vet did a post mortem and found that the dog had two broken ribs and a punctured lung. Friend of zarate says thinks uncharacteristic of him. He is a loving dog owner, they say. He said they didnt know what was going on. They said he he said that they think he killed the dog. You know, he was in shofnlgt he have didnt know what was going on. We know that the dog was brought here with no injuries or no known illness of any kind and we do believe that because of the actions taken by the groomer during the grooming a what is caused the dog to die. Petsmart also released the statement saying in part that they are hurt, heart broken by the loss of henry. They say nothing is more important for the safety of a pet. They say that juan zarate has been placed on suspension pending the outcome of that investigation. The question is how the dog had those medical complications, how it died. We understand that the dogs body was taken to the peninsula humane society. Theyll perform a necropsy but those results wont be released for a few days. In san leandro, police are still searching for a man who shot and killed a man outside of a community center. Evident attending a first Communion Party at the san dean Doctor Community center. There were about 100 people at the party including Young Children they do Young Children. Police say they do believe that the person was targeted. Two men, possibly carrying guns were seen running from a van. At this point, police are looking the surveillance video. The Silicon Valley company now reoffering a 100,000 reward trying to solve a 22 yearold unsolved homicide. In march of 1994, Matthew Flores had just been discharged from the army, hired to be an engineer at applied materials. He moved for training in santa clara with his family. The Supreme Court announce add compromise ruling that could clear the way for women working in religious options to receive Birth Control under the Affordable Health care act. San jose Police Arrested two suspects in a driveby shooting of a real estate agent. 34yearold michael arciego was sitting outside of a club when he was shot. He had just celebrated a friends birthday and was waiting for a ride home in San Francisco. Witnesses heard six shots. Osega died at the scene but there is no word yet about a possible motive. A texas preacher who claims that whole foods sold them a cake with a gay slur admit he made it all up. He bought a birthday cake and when he opened it up, he said there was a gay slur. Many whole food shoppers always say they were suspicion of this allegation. I take that story with a bit of grain of salt and wondering if there might be some other sort of motive behind it.
