Highway 1 in San Mateo County just reopened after a deadly crash. Lets go to alex near where the accident happened. Reporter good morning. The chp now says it was a deadly singlecar crash. The driver of the car was thrown from the car and killed he was the only person in the car and the investigation into the accident took about 3 hours or so and shook down highway 1 in this area in both directions now, highway 1 is back open were just south of the tunnel near devils slide. It happened this morning when chp got reports of a person down in the roadway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by sheriff deputies. The chp says that the man was thrown from the car during the crash his was the only car involved in the accident. It was a single car crash. Some drivers, they were forced to find alternate routes one man said he was going to wait for the road to reopen. Its never a good thing when we see the police out here. First thought was how do i get to work and Second Thought is so bad this happened. Reporter historically, this is a deadly stretch of roadway. Sometimes people take the turns too fast and he had seen his share of accidents living in this area. The chp has not released information about the driver killed in the earlymorning crash. Highway 1 was shut down for about 3 hours for the investigation into this accident. But the chp just reopened the road. Commuters who travel this stretch of highway will move from the Half Moon Bay area and the pacifica area freely. Thats the only route you have to get that way. Thank you. Two supervisors want extra steps to keep tenants safe. A building where crews were battling the fire last night. It happened in a building that has had a history of problems. This one here, it used to be an Apartment Building here on 22nd and mission. Its been vacant since january of last year, there was a fatal fire that happened here. Last month, another fire broke out in the same building and just last night, firefighters had to come back to put out the third fire in the past year and a half. Firefighters were able to get it controlled quickly, it was a onealarm fire and no one was hurt. Theyre proposing new rules for Business Owners after a series of residential fires in the district. Landlords have to install fire alarms loud enough to wake people up if theyre sleeping they have to file paper work and the city creates a data base where people can look up their Apartment Building to see if the landlords have complied with the rules they are set to announce the safety proposals today. They will announce them in front of the building here behind us, this Apartment Building. Speaking of the same area, i have drawn a line over the bridge there was a material spill. One of the lanes closed on 680 coming up to highway 4. Some slow traffic passing highway 4. Give yourself plenty of time as you drive through that area. Were looking at 80 westbound which is slow, all the way down into berkeley. It does have a lot of slow traffic. When you get to the bay bridge, its about a 30minute delay making it onto that span. Lets go back to the desk. A man considered by police is armed and dangerous and still on the loose hes a person of interest in the shooting that left one person dead and another one injured in south San Francisco. Ktvu, were live at Memorial Park in south city. Its quiet now, but during the afternoon, when the shooting happened, there were plenty of people around. A group of men started to argue about 2 or 3 blocks from here. Police need your help in finding a shooter that killed one person. This man is considered armed and dangerous. He was wearing a blue windbreaker with a yellow stripe going down one of the sleeves and running westbound and anyone who knows where he is call 911. It took place at first lane. Its not far from here. The argument escalated as it reached orange park. One man pulled out a gun and opened fire hitting two people. They took the victims to general and one remains in stable condition. Near by schools, boys and girls club, all went on lockdown. Obviously, its an open park and an open community center. There were people present. It was before the local schools let out. There was not as much traffic in the area as there could have been. Again, still carrying the gun were told that its not far known for gang activities, they believe theres only one gunman involved. It happened where theres less traffic than it would normally be. They are in san jose, what is happening to the two baby falcons at city hall . Youre looking now at a live picture of Glenn Stewart from the research group. He just repelled down the side of city hall. Its a 22story building and hes up there in the black to the right, that is the mother falcon and shes making a cacking sound. Thats an alert sound, shes not happy glenn is up there. Hes up there for a very important reason. He is checking in on the two baby falcons that are up there in a nest. And he is going to be banding them. I know that we have some video from past years of him doing the banding because there is a webcam up there. And to just get a little more information about why its so important to band, im joined by john lewis. What a is he doing . Hes banding each bird and determining their sex and goes into his whole study of the falcons in the bay area that hes been doing for the last 20 years or so. Its adding to the data base we spot these birds for him and gets an idea of the population if its gaining or losing reporter we dont know if theyre bisque boys or girls . Not yet. He has a gauge to determine the size because the legs are fully mature right now. Sounds funny, but their bodies arent. Their legs dont grow any bigger which is why he can put the bands on. Im joined by one of the expert birders out here, and youre watching this here with your binoculars, why is it good to have the falcons here . Why is it beneficial theyre very desirable to have an urban landscape they keep the population of pigeons at a minimum it keeps down the spread of disease. Some cities are trying to attract the falcons into their landscape. Were learning about the falcons and you can see the live picture above city hall, making her cacking sound. We have not seen him go back up to the top of city hall. But he is there banding those birds, trying to figure out the sex. There were two that hatched in early april. A third was born but it didnt make it and that sometimes does happen. So far, clara has birthed 33 falcons in her time here since 2008. Pretty amazing that we have her. Her mate is not around right now. But very, very interesting to watch here. I do want to show you quickly, if you could come back out so everyone can see how many people are up here. It appears that for unknown reasons, the vehicle lost control and possibly traveled onto the side of the vehicle ejecting the driver and the driver crashed. They have not released information about the driver. A Hunger Strike outside of a San Francisco Police Station is now six days old. Theyre organizing Police Shootings and say they were threatened with citations or arrests for sleeping outside the station. The protesters have been camping in the mission since last thursday. The examiner says that the police asked protesters not to block the entrance to the the Police Station. The group says that the protest will continue until the police chief is fired. They have taken steps to make changes in the wake of the Police Shootings. Still in the city, San Francisco supervisors taking up two proposals aimed at more Affordable Housing in the city. Police need your help in finding a person of interest. The 19yearold Christian Omar cruz is considered armed and dangerous he was last seen running through orange park. Anyone who knows where he is should call 911. The shooting took place after an argument with a group of young men at the 600 block of first lane its not too far from here. The argument escalated. The group moved to orange park and one man pulled out as a gun and opened fire killing one person. One died at the hospital, the other is in stable condition and as a result of the shooting, near by schools, a boys and girls club and a reck center went on lockdown. There was nobody else injured in the incident. Theres only believed to be the one outstanding suspect were on the hunt for. The gunman ran off carrying the gun its not far from areas known for gang activity. It happened at a time of day when there was less foot traffic than it would be in the schools let out.
