And sfo 75 and oaklands 80 would tie record highs set just one year ago. Mostly clear expect the high clouds. 60 in berkeley. Napa airport is 45. Mountain view 60. 62 half moon bay. 60 in San Francisco. Some areas that are above, maybe above 500 feet could be really warm already. Some 60s for a few. 50s for others. Pretty big spread on some of these temps. But the breeze, its turning. I mean, it was north of fairfield, north at santa rosa. Oakland he is breeze turned offshore to a little on shore. We are set the stage for warm day. Way above normal on the temps. Stronger in the Higher Elevations. 70 to near 80 degrees. All right, sal. I think a lot of people are getting on the road early perhaps to do fun things instead of going to work. We will see. Lets take a look at the commute. Traffic is moving along pretty well around the bay area. There is still not a crowd. But just see a lot of people out there. This look at the commute here on 880 north and southbound in front of the oakland coliseum, the traffic does look fine. And if you are driving in san jose, there is not much of a commute, although there are people out there. The freeways are not too crowded. 7 02. A search is on for a missing man from alameda who owes more than 100 million in a federal lawsuit. Ktvu fox 2s janine de la vega is live there. Reporter yeah, they just started arriving. Family and friends are expecting at least maybe 15 people. They are going to be searching lands and park behind me. They also want to search areas of the presidio and look for cameras in that area to see if anybody has spotted him. 73yearold john beck was last seen by his family last tuesday when he was dropped off in downtown oakland for a meeting. He never showed up to that meeting, but his loved ones found an Instagram Photo of him on the coastal trail near lands end. That was taken the day he disappeared. Thats why relatives are focused on that area. John becks daughter just showed up here. Let me ask you, what is your plan today . I know youre obviously emotional. This has been difficult. Yeah. Reporter tell me about the plan today and what youre hoping. Yeah. Were gonna search the lands end area. We are going to search to baker beach. He was seen on the coastal trail. There was an Instagram Photo. We have a whole team of people searching on instagram. So someone found the photo and were gonna search all around that area. But we are hopeful because of the Instagram Photo. I am so sorry. We had done the Google Search and had looked on his google history and saw that his search showed it. He was an army brat. He grew up partially in presidio in this area. We were naturally gravitating here in our search. Then instagram not owe finding kind of confirmed that this was an area that he was last seen. A Memorial Service has been announced for Richmond Police officer Augustine Gus vegas. He is the offduty officer shot and killed last week during a domestic dispute at his home in vallejo. It will take place at the richmond Memorial Auditorium at 403 civic center plaza. It begins at 10 00 in the morning. He was a 15 year veteran with the police force and a respected member of his community. Police have arrested a 30yearold man in connection with the shooting. He is the father of one of las vegas grandchildren. Police have set up a gofundme account to help raise money for las vegas family. Dna evidence helped connect a san ramon man to a brutal gang rape on the uc sant barbara Carmelo Anthony two years ago. They arrested 21yearold daniel jang chen. He has been charged are rape, false imprisonment and battery. Investigators only linked chen to the crime after they took a dna sample from him after a drug arrest last month. Chen was a student at usb from 2012 two 2013. No other arrests have been made in the case. Investigators or working to find out what caused a fire that damaged two homes over the weekend. It happened saturday night on fulton street near the university of San Francisco. An 11yearold boy was hurt while trying to escape. More than a dozen people were forced to leave. At one point firefighters say 50 people were forced out of their homes, and these are pictures of the fire and the smoke as it lit up the night sky. The redwood red cross stepped in to help. Big changes are coming to San Franciscos Mission street. Transit officials are transforming a two and a half mile stretch of the street from 11th street to randall street. They are trying to improve traffic flow and increase pedestrian safety. The most noticeable difference will be in the southbound direction where one of the two traffic lanes will be transformed into a busonly lane. Required right turns and left turn restrictions will also be implemented in both directions. Now, as part of this project the sfmda also removed 13 muni stops it considered ineffective on saturday. The painting of the red transitonly lane will start next week. Officials in Santa Clara County are looking for ways to prevent suicide. Four palo alto teenagers took their lives over the past two years. Uc berkeley scientists have released an android app that adds your phone to a worldwide quake detection network. Its called the my shake app. Seismologists say once enough people sign up they can use the information as part of an earthquake warning system. They say the app works best for larger earthquakes when your phone is lying on a flat surface. All smartphones have an accelerometer, which allows the phone to sense motion whether you are walking, whether you are running. The orientation of the screen. There are reports that missles hit a Childrens Hospital in a town in Northern Syria today killing at least 10 people. When the justices get back to work though, there will be a vacant seat on the court. We just dont know how long its going to take to fill that vacancy. A hearse carries the body of Justice Antonin Scalia before a plane was to take him back to virginia. Scalias death has been a shock. Mourners leaving candles, flowers and cards at the steps of the Supreme Court with questions now about what will happen next i plan to fulfill my constitutional responsibilities. Reporter president obama has promise it had to appoint a replacement in what would be the third selection for the court, leaving a lasting imprint. That requires approve from the Gopcontrolled Senate where republicans say they will not sign off during a president ial election year. The person who wins that is going to have the right to replace justice scalia, whether a democrat or republican. Reporter and all of this has caused more consternation on the campaign trail. We are not moving forward until after this election. I believe that the next president should fill this vacancy. Reporter republicans lining up behind the delay. Democrats argue with the president and the senate should move forward. President makes the appointment. Senate confirms. Lets get on with that business. Reporter the court, meantime, will continue to function, but with just eight justices, ties could leave important decisions in limbo where they would revert to Lower Court Rulings ranging from immigration, abortion rights, and obamacare. But again it looks like the president is going to go forward with a nomination. Its just not clear if the senate is going to take it up. It doesnt look like thats going to happen. As far as who the president would consider, remember the president has been through this twice now. So presumably the white house has a pretty decent short list to work with. San Francisco Police are busy investigating a double homicide at a spot thats really popular with tourists and bay area israel. Ktvu fox 2s brian flores at twin peaks right now. The police want to hear from anyone who was in that area early yesterday, brian . Reporter they do, dave. Good morning to you. And they are hoping that someone does come forward in regards this case. I just got off the phone with San Francisco police just minutes ago. No new updates in terms of this investigation. They are asking for anyone who was here possibly around sunday Early Morning to come forward if they saw anything. Plus are not saying much about exactly what happened here, but only providing bare bones details. The shooting took place after 2 a. M. Sunday. Police responded to reports of gunfire here at the twin peaks lookout. When they arrived three men had been shot. A 20yearold was pronounced dead here. A 20yearold rushed today hospital where he later died. An 18yearold remains in the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. The shooter is another man and he quickly left the area after the shooting. Police did not release any more details of a possible getaway car or suspect description. Visitors were shocked it happened here. I find it all very shocking that it doesnt seem doesnt it seem like crime like that happens in dark little corners somewhere where there isnt anybody . So that makes you feel compromised in anything could happen at any time. Reporter a few surveillance here on twin peaks. We understand police will gather that footage in the hopes of piecing together what happened and get more information on who this shooter is. Police are urging the public, if they were here in the Early Morning hours of sunday, to come forward. The other thing is that there are other crimes that happened here on twin peaks, according to the police crime report. There are a couple of car break inns that happened within the past three days. Back to you. Time now 7 35. San francisco investigators also checking Surveillance Video from the Golden Gate Bridge after two people were hit by blow darts. Heres a photo of one of those darts. Both victims say they were hit as they walked across the Golden Gate Bridge. The first said the dart hit his thigh, penetrated his skin one to two inches. As police were talking to him, a second victim walked up and said she had been hit by a dart in the kneecap. Both were treated right there at the scene. Investigators say the darts probably came from a car traveling northbound in the lane next to the pedestrian sidewalk. San jose police are investigating a crash where they found a man shot to death behind the wheel. The driver hit a pole near Pioneer High School before 4 00 yesterday morning. While police are not naming the man, the mercury news spoke to neighbors who say he is was an older man who went by the name d. C. At in point the circumstances are unclear. Well, the debate over shortterm rentals in the east bay town of danville, thats about to heat up. The town council will meet this week to consider ban on all rentals of less than 30 days. Some of the residents say their neighbors have built large additions to their homes so they can rent them out on airbnb, and they say that attracts undesirable people to the area. It also causes traffic and parking problems. Now, those who oppose the ban say this is all being overblown and there are only 15 airbnb rentals in the town of 16,000 homes. Hackers have hit one of the largest hospitals in los angeles. They are demanding a 3 million ransom to unlock patient records. The cyber attack happened at hollywood presbyterian hospital. The fbi and Los Angeles Police are working to catch whoever did it. Records are unavailable because the computers are shut down. Hospital workers say that patient care isnt being compromised, but it is causing delays, including in the emergency room. That has some patients and families upset. I am kind of actually surprised that they wouldnt, you know, tell us when we were coming in that there might be a delay because of the situation. A cybersecurity expert says the imaginers may have chosen a hospital as a target because its security wasnt very good. He knows of six other businesses that have had their record systems hacked and held or ransom. In each case, the businesses paid up. It is bitterly cold in the northeast. New york senator Charles Schumer wants president obama to reconsider cutting almost 300 million from counterterrorism programs nationwide. Senator schumer, a democrat from new york, says the proposed cuts are ill advised and must be reversed. President obamas new budget plan would cut the urban Area Security initiative from 600 million to 330 million. Senator schumer says the funding is needed to keep Counter Terrorism programs operating, especially in new york city. On about president s day holiday you schhave no problem getting a seat on bart. Ktvu fox 2s janine de la vega is in San Francisco where he was last seen. Reporter john becks daughter and friends took off about 30 minutes ago here in the lands end park area. They have been walking the trails. I want it he show you this view here. This is near the scutaro baths. Now, beck googled this area the day before he disappeared. Family members tracked down this Instagram Photo which they say shows him wearing his floppy hat and walking along the coastal trails. The picture was taken tuesday, the day he disappeared. The photo prompted the family to search the trials looking for any sign of beck. They contacted the man who took the grammy picture. He said Homeless People may have seen him, too. Beck disappeared before being dropped off in downtown oakland for a meeting last week and he never showed up to that meeting and this Instagram Photo is giving the family hope. Its the first like real lead we have gotten for him. It felt like this is something thats my dad. And its just i recognized his posture. I could see that it was him. Reporter there has been speculation that beck may have been on the run because he does owe 113 million. He was sued by the federal trade commission for a get rich real estate scheme. The case in the appeals process has been going on for four years, and the family says there was no indication he felt hopeless. His daughter does not suspect foul play. They are not sure if he just reached a breaking point. They are extremely worried. They say he had little money on him and has not used his credit cards or cell phone since he disappeared. A Memorial Service has been announced for Richmond Police officer Augustine Gus vegas. He is the offduty officer killed last week in vallejo. The Memorial Service takes place friday at 403 civic center plaza. The service is open to the public. It will begin at 10 00 in the morning. Vegas was a 15year veteran with the police force in richmond and a well respected member of his community. Police arrested a 30yearold man in connection of the shooting. He is the father of one of vegas grandchildren. Police set up a gofundme account to help support vegas family. More than 15,000 has been donated so far. 8 05. Dna evidence was used to help connect a san ramon man to a gang rain on the Uc Santa Barbara campus two years ago. University police came to the bay area last week. They arrested 21yearold daniel jang chen. He is charged with rape, false imprisonment, and battery. The alleged attack happened in 2014, but investigators were only able to link chen to the crime after they took a dna sample from him after a drug arrest in Alameda County last month. Chen was a student at ucsb from 2012 to 2013. No other arrests have been made in that case. Investigators in San Francisco are working to find out what caused a fire that damaged two homes over the weekend. The fire happened saturday night on fulton street near the university of San Francisco. An 11yearold boy was injured trying to escape. A disease people were forced to leave. At one point firefighters say 50 people were displaced by the fire. The red cross stepped in to help. It took crews more than an hour to get this massive fire under control. Our time is 8 07. Two people are dead after a shooting at a popular San Francisco tourist spot. Early yesterday police are hoping for help from the public in identifying the gunman. Ktvu fox 2s brian flores is there at twin peaks. Police dont think there is a lingering danger out there right now, do they . Reporter they dont, dave. We will talk about that in a moment. But in the meantime, police are asking if people were here around the weekend to step forward. This is known for spectacular views of San Francisco. Over the weekend it was a scene of a deadly shooting. Now, police are not saying much about the shooting. Only providing some minor details. From what we understand this shooting took place after 2 a. M. On sunday. Police responded here to reports of gunfire at the twin peaks look out. They found three men had been shot. A 20yearold pro dunessed dead here. A 22yearold rushed to a hospital where he later died. An 18yearold remains in the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. We understand the shooter is another man and that he quickly left the area after the shooting. Police did not release any details of a possible getaway car or suspect description, but visitors we spoke with were shocked that it happened here. You know, it happened. You know what i mean . You cant stop it from happenings. If its gonna happen, its gonna happen. I find it shocking that, you know, doesnt it seem like crime like that happens in dark little corners somewhere where there isnt anybody . So that makes you feel compromised in that anything could happen at any time. Reporter now, the latest from police is that they believe the victims were targeted in this case. There is not the belief at this point that the public is any danger. That being said, they urge visitors and locals alike to be vigilant and be aware of their surroundings. As we take it back out here live, the other thing that police hope could shed light to this case are the surveillance cameras that are posted near the antennas. If you are familiar with this area of twin peaks. People are urging people if they saw or heard anything, obviously, to come forward in this case. Down south where San Jose Police are investigating a crash where they found a man shot to death behind the wheel. A driver hit a pole before 4 00 yesterday morning. While police are not naming the victim, the mercury news spoke to neighbors who said he went by the name d. C. No arrests have been made. He might have been shot by someone driving in another car. At this point circumstances are not clear. 8 34. Investigators checking Surveillance Video from the Golden Gate Bridge after a startling attack. Two people hit by blow darts. Here is a photo of one of those darts. Take a look. Both victims say they were hit as we walked across the bridge. The chp says the first person said the dart hit his thigh, penetrated his skin about two inches. As police were talking to him in the vista point parking lot, a second victim walked up, said she had been hit by a dart in the kneecap. Both were treated at the scene. Investigators say the dart probably came from a car heading northbound in the lane next to the pedestrian sidewalk. Hackers have hit one of the largest hospitals in los angeles. They are demanding a 3 million ransom to up lock patient records. The cyber attack happened at hollywood presbyterian hospital. The fbi and Los Angeles Police are working to catch the criminals. Records have been unavailable because the out computers are shut down. Hospital workers say that patient care isnt compromised but it is causing delays, including in the emergency room. And that has some patients and their families upset. Im kind of actually surprised that they wouldnt, you know, tell us this when we were coming in, that there might be a delay because of the situation. A cybersecurity expert says the hackers may have chosen a hospital as a target because its security wasnt very good. He knows of six other businesses that have had their record systems attacked and held for ransom. 8 36a debate over Short Term Rentals in danville is about to heat up. The town council will consider a ban on all rentals of less than 30 days. Some residents say their neighbors have built big additions to their homes so they can rent them out ona b b. They say that attracts undesirable people to the area. It also causes traffic and parking problems. Those who oppose the ban say the issue is being overblown. Well, there is a warning this morning for pet owners. More dogs and cats are being eaten by mountain lions in california. Here is a new report by the department of fish and wildlife. It says the attacks are happening more often. Officials looked at what more than 100 mountain lions consumed. More than half had eaten cats or dogs or other house pets. Pet owners, youre advised, keep your sats indoors. Keep your dogs on leashes. Especially in open space and parks. Close to 1 billion worth of liquid meth was discovered in australia. Authorities say it was hidden in imported boxes of silicone bra inserts and art supplies. Four people were arrested in sydney last month for allegedly importing the drugs from china. We are here to laud the joint operation that has resulted in the largest seizure of liquid methamphetamine in australias history. New york senator Charles Schumer pushing president obama to reconsider cutting almost 300 million from Counter Terrorism programs. Senator schumer, who is a democrat from new york, says the proposed cuts are ill advised and must be reversed. The president s new budget plan would cut the urban Area Security initiative from 600 million to 330 million. Senator schumer says that funding is needed to keep Counter Terrorism programs operating, especially in new york city. This coming saturday Republican Voters in South Carolina and democratic voters in nevada head to the polls for the primary elections. They are transforming a two and a half mile stretch of Mission Street from 11th street to randall to improve traffic flow and to increase pedestrian safety. The most noticeable difference will be in the southbound direction. Thats where one of the two traffic lanes will be transformed into a busonly lane. For right turns and leftturn restrictions, they will also be implemented in both directions. As part of the project, the sfmta took out 13 muni stops it considered inefficient. By the way, the painting of the red transitonly lane starts next week. Well, if you are hopping on bart on this president s day holiday you should have no problem getting a seat. But a typical monday morning commute can be different with packed trains greeting you at most of the bart stops. Bart is building a new fleet of trains, but not until next year. Bart is testing out ways to make the best of these old cars. The Transit System is moving furniture around. The system and its passengers need the space. The bart ridership has been at record highs with an average of 450,000 trips on the system every day. When theory vents like the super bowl, that number is higher. They are going to remove those seats. Those are double seats right now. They are going to put single seats in so you can have more standing room. They are going to put hand holds for the extra people who will be standing. 20 of bartzs 779 carts will be retrofitted. Seven of those are already in service. This is Pilot Program. They want to know if its working. There is a survey online for passengers to fill out. This is part of the bigger plan to figure out how to deal with all these extra people while we wait for the new train cars, which will start starting next year. Encouraging. Reporter it is.
