Of the responding firefighters. Alex . Reporter yeah, really dramatic video. We want to let everybody know about all of the people injured in this fire. A total of seven people were treated, either taken to the hospital or treated here at the scene. Most of them took in a lot of smoke. There was one man who had burns to his back and is being treated at the hospital. Let me show you where the fire started. It started here in this home on the lefthand side and it then quickly spread to the home on the right and the home on the other side and then to a fourth home thats actually across the street. Thats how big this fire was. Some of those embers just drifted across the street here and this was just an incredible scene on this block. Let me get ut to the video get you to the video. This is helmet cam video. You can see this fire that started after 1 00 this morning here on anchor drive in baypoint. The flames, they spread to four neighboring homes on the street and mainly that was a result of the proximity of the homes. They are so close together, that the fire spread from one to the other. It took Contra Costa County firefighters more than an hour to get things under control. In the end, two homes were destroyed. Two others were damaged. One woman who lives near the fire, she rushed outside with her family, including her four kids, and what she saw was unbelievable. It sounded like like grenades, like explosions. But thank goodness, were all okay. Lucky. Particularly when you are talking about 1 00 this morning. A lot of people are asleep or theyve just gone to sleep or, you know, they are typically not up and about. Detection of the fire is one of those things that you worry about. Reporter firefighters are still trying to figure out if there was smoke detectors in any of the homes and thats what alerted people to the fire. Fire investigators are here gathering evidence trying to figure out how the fire started and the focus appears to be on a minivan that is parked in the driveway of the home where this fire initially started this morning. So they are looking at the possibility that the fire started possibly in the minivan, maybe another car in the driveway. Thats the driveway behind us there. Investigators still here gathering evidence right now. They dont know the cause and they are still trying to figure out if this fire was suspicious in nature. They say its too early to make that determination. Sose people lost so much. Is anyone on scene, any agency, helping them . Reporter absolutely. The red cross is out here. All of the families who wouldnt be able to who wont be able to live in their homes are being given a place to stay. Were still working to get an accurate number of the people displaced. But two families for sure cant live in their else who. They were wiped out live in their homes. They were wiped out by this fire. All right, ldz alex savidge live this morning. Calfire is currently at a wildfire in the santa cruz mountains. It prompted an evacuation. This fire broke out about 11 25 on bear canyon road in the Boulder Creek area, north of ben lomond. The structure went up in flames and started a grass fire. Crews have contained that fire. They are now cleaning up. No one was hurt. The evacuations were ordered as a precaution because this fire burned along a main road. The heat has prompted a Campbell Union High School District to send students home early again today. Classrooms dont have air conditioning. Students were sent home midday yesterday. Theres talk about adding air conditioning but one School Board Member said that would cost 12 million. A lot of money. The remains of linda might spin in clouds, too. The fog is near the coast. No heat advisory coast or in the city. Inland, one more day of a heat advisory. 100s there. 60s, 70s and 80s by the water. All right, sal. I know you have slow traffic. Anything else to report. We do have slow traffic in the east bay. But every day after tuesday, which was really a bad day for the commute, has become just slightly better. Its almost like the weather. Its kind of slowly cooling off, if you will. If i can use that anallygy analogy here. The traffic is slow. Its not as bad as tuesday. When we get to the toll plaza area, you can see the traffic is backed up for a 25minute delay getting into the city. I want to go to Contra Costa County, where 680 is slow, just after the benicia bridge. It slows again in concord to walnut creek. Highway 4 is pretty slow from the main part of antioch all the way out to concord. We do have the normal slowdowns there as you drive through. I also want to mention that the San Francisco problem we had northbound 101 at 280 has been cleared up. Feel free to use 101. That backup is gone. 101 looks decent. The Oakland Police department and the fbi, they are working together to investigate the unsolved murder of a uc berkeley student. Now, a News Conference will be held later this morning to announce a new reward in the shooting death of student two years ago. That student was killed after holding home from a pickup basketball game. He was rear ended. When he got out of his car to talk to the other driver, police say he was shot. The American Civil Liberties union has filed a lawsuit that accuses three San Francisco Police Officers of racial profiling and beating a young black man. Were here today to seek justice for travis. The aclu claims last april, 23yearold travis hall was arrested for no legitimate reason. The group said he was stopped outside of his San Francisco apartment sim plim because hes black simply because he is black and was with three other black people. That night the officers automatically assumed i was doing something wrong because i am black. I felt helpless. The officers violently beat me and forced me to stay up all night in jail. The aclu is seeking a jury trial and compensation from the city of San Francisco. The City Attorneys Office declined to comment saying it would be premature. 15,000 will be paid by the city of oakland to a woman who said she was hurt in a crash last year in a car driven by jean quan. The Council Settled a lawsuit by the woman who said jean quan did not slow down or stop at a red light. The woman sued jean quan and the city of oakland for injuries and lost wages caused by the crash. She claims the mayor was talking on her cell phone at the time. Now, phone records show jean quan made several phone calls around the time of the crash but jean quan said she was not on the phone when she crashed. Donald trump is coming in for criticism after attacking Carly Fiorina for her looks. Rolling stone magazine quotes, look at that face. Would anyone vote for that . Now, it is a new 26 million flight 93 Visitors Center and museum. Its in the field where the hijacked plane crashed. Im so glad because my favorite memories of the memorial are before it ever happened, when the land was gouged by the 757 crashing into it at 600 miles an hour. Yeah. And they had just this was before the lovely spot where the passengers names are. Why did you decide not to go . Well, ive been there several times. Its kind of haunting. I had other commitments here in the bay area. But i hope to go again soon. I miss the lovely people at the National Park service who have made it a point to graciously greet every single one of the thousands and thousands of visitors who have been there year round. The man who set up Hillary Clintons private email server is expected to take the fifth and refuse to testify on capitol hill today. Its backed up for 20 minutes before you get on the span itself and then traffic is going to be okay. San francisco that earlier accident has been cleared. Northbound 101 at 280. Vasco road at camino diablo, there is an accident there. When that happens, there is a lot of slow traffic. Paramedics are there. Again, vasco road at camino diablo, there is a crash. Give yourself plenty of extra time. In san jose, im gonna move the maps down to san jose. Northbound 101 at 880 there is a crash. The south bay commute has been very slow. Northbound 101, 280, 85 are super slow in the valley. 7 33. Lets go back to the deck back to the desk. Police in union city are searching for a man responsible for a Sexual Assault while posing as a Cable Company worker. Janine de la vega is joining us live. You have new information from the police, ja into janine. Reporter it this happened in this happened in the neighborhood about a halfmile away from the Union Landing shopping center. That didnt seem to make a difference to this suspect who appeared to be preying on unsuspecting victims. Here is a sketch of what the suspect looked like. Hes described as a white male, around 30 years old, hes approximately 59 to 6 feet, weighing 180 pounds with a muscular build. Police say on the afternoon of august 24th, the man was wearing a red comcast shirt. He knocked on the door on San Ramon Court telling the woman inside the home he was there for a service call. The woman said they didnt have a service call and started to close the door. Thats when he pushed the door and sexually assaulted her. This has the neighborhood on alert. Scary, too. I usually look out the window before i open the door. Comcast is not supposed to come out first. They are supposed to make an appointment. I dont like to open the door. If somebody knocks, i try to fick out who is on the other side look through the figure out who is on the other side, look through the glass and ask who is there. Reporter comcast says sometimes employees come to a home unannounced. So you should always ask for i. D. Or call to verify if someone should be at your home. Please need help identifying the man in this case. They dont want anyone else to fall victim to this. Back to you. Janine de la vega, thank you. 7 35. San jose investigators want to know if a homeless camp may have caused a fire in northeastern san jose. Skyfox took this video of a grass fire. It came dangerously close to a mobile home park. It took about two hours to put it out. A homeless encampment is nearby. The firefighters have problems putting out the fire because there are no nearby fire hydrants, also a creek bed is completely dry because of the drought. Also in santa clara county, a wildfire is still burning in pacheo pass along highway 152 east of gilroy. This fire has bushed 215 acres burned 215 acres. It started yesterday afternoon near the san luis reservoir. The first report suggests a car may have caught fire and then ignited the grass there along the road. San joses Ethics Commission are launching an investigate of almost 40 City Council Members and candidates who they say violated a local election law. Now, according to the San Jose Mercury news, almost every member of city council, including mayor sam liccardo, violated the citys Election Code by not properly reporting late compain Contribution Campaign contributions. One counsel memorial was fined 10,000 for missing or late fighting one councilmember was fined 10,000 for missing or late filings. The city clerk has acknowledged an error. 7 37. Now, here are the releases for the new products. Updated software for the iphones, ipads expected next wednesday. The new iphones are due in stores september 25th but you can get your preorders starting saturday. The new apple tv is scheduled to debut late next month and the pro set for release in november, which will be just in time for the holidays. But we just had a collision reported westbound 24 near Pleasant Hill road. We should be able to see it in this traffic picture. I dont see a big backup. Hopefully its not a huge thing. Southbound 680 just north of treat boulevard in the same area. Theres also some reported. Trying to figure out what if is. Also looking at the bay bridge toll plaza, a 25, 30minute delay and the traffic is going to be slow. Northbound 101 san jose near 880 there was a crash there. Thats also been moved to the side but traffic has been slow in the area and we also have slow traffic on 85, 280. Not a clear, alternate route to get around the problem. Even if you dont get the fog, coast, bay, in San Francisco, it will be coomber. Inland it will be cooler. Inland and i think a late breeze will pick up. Higher clouds moving in. I talked with a consumer psychologist about what kids really need to know about cosigning for the first card. Its a big decision because it affects the Financial Health of the parents and its an Educational Opportunity for kids. By the time somebody graduates from college or even in college when they are trying to get a lease on an apartment or rent a car, buy a car, they need to have a credit rating. This is an opportunity to get that. But if your child isnt responsible and he or she goes crazy, mom or dad are on the hook. Until you are 21, your credit card has to be cosigned by your parents. I think parents dont consider if their kids mess up, that affects their credit. What sort of training do you want parents to give their children before handing over r the handing over the credit card . Kids dont learn impulse control the way we hope they would and they miss the opportunity to learn about the quality of money. Those things need to be discussed in detail with kids. Maybe a credit card, checking account, some way where they can understand and come to know money and both the heaven and hell of compounding interest. Thats where a fierce overnight fire destroyed homes and left seven people dead. Here we are six hours later and crews are still on the scene making sure there are no flareups. The information we just learned is that fire investigators believe that someone using drugs inside a parked minivan in the driveway of this home where the fire started, they believe that is what caused this devastating fire. Let me show you that minivan right there. Thats the one investigators have been gathering evidence inside there throughout the morning and they just told us a short time ago they found several pipes and lighters as well. It appears someone was using drugs, smoking something in or near this minivan and that appears to have been what sparked this huge fire. It started after 1 00 this morning here on anchor drive in baypoint. Here you see some foot an taken by footage taken by a helmet camera. Those flames quickly spread to four homes on the street. Two of them were destroyed. This took Contra Costa County an hour to get the fire under control. There were seven people hurt. All of them were treated for smoke inhalation. There was one man who had burns to his back. After collecting evidence all morning out here, investigators say theyve figured out this fire likely was caused by someone smoking something inside that van. We cant tell what they may have been smoking. But we did find both the pipe as well actually, multiple pipes as well as lighters in the area where we believe the fire started. Reporter so far, no one has been arrested. Investigators are interviewing the people who live here at this home where that van is parked to see what, if anything, they know about this situation or what was going on inside the van. But according to neighbors, that particular van had been parked in the driveway for quite some time. It was always left unlocked. According to investigators, one possibility is someone could have come by and snuck into the van and was doing whatever they were doing and sparked this fire. We got an estimate on the damage done out here. They are estimating that this fire, the four homes that were damaged this morning, total cost of about 850,000 in damage, you guys. Tomorrow marks 14 years since the terror attacks. A new memorial just opened for flight 93. Just about an hour ago, brian flores sat down with the mother of a flight the 3 flight 93 victim. You. Hard to believe, 14 years. Yes. A touching tribute in shanksville, pennsylvania as the monument for flight 93 opens today. About an hour ago, the ceremony for the flight 93 memorial began. Several of the victims families are there as well as pennsylvanias governor and after 14 years, the 26 million flight 93 Visitors Center and museum in the pennsylvania field where the flight went down officially opened today. This is time lapse video showing the construction of the monument. You see a total of 1800 days of construction from august of 2010 until just last month. Now, the finished member guides visitors on a narrow path between two walls that portray the wicks of the plane. The view opens to the field where the plane crashed. There is a large boulder that sits at the spot where the nose of the plane hit the ground. Earlier we spoke with alice, whose son, mark bingham, was one of the heroes who fought off the terrorists aboard the flight and today continues to battle for airline safety. I think they need to install biometrics to allow people to be truly identified by their own bodies, by their eye scans, and prints and we could do so much better. Our technology is so much more advanced than what we actually do on board. Now, alice says her son mark was a great athlete, she thinks that contributed to his response in the face of danger. Alice has been a very outspoken supporter in the lgbt community. Mark was openly gay. Alice hopes marks actions that day broke stereotypes. Shes not planning on visiting the memorial this year. Back to the desk. Union city prison on the look now Union City Police on the lookout for a man who sexually assaulted a woman while posing as a comcast worker. Janine de la vega has more. Reporter police say the suspect was wearing a red comcast shirt when he came and knocked on one of the doors in this neighborhood. One woman we spoke to says she plans on having a meeting with the neighbors to talk about safety now that this incident occurred. Police had a sketch made of the suspect. They say on the afternoon of august 24th, he knocked on the door of a home on San Ramon Court and told the woman who answered he was there for a service call. The victim told him they didnt have one scheduled and started to close the door. But officers say he physically forced his way in. Thats when the Sexual Assault took place. Investigators say no other incidents like this have occurred in union city but they still want to identify and catch the suspect. Neighbors are on high alert. My questions are, you know,ing is he gonna come back . You you know, is he gonna come back . You know, is it from Union Landing . From the park . We want a safe neighborhood. Ive been here nine years. Its been safe. We need to figure out what we can do to keep each other safe. Reporter the suspect is white, around 30 years old, around 59 to 6 feet tall, he weighs 180 pounds and has a muscular build. The flames broke out about 11 25 last night on bear canyon road in the Boulder Creek area. A building went up in flames and that triggered a grass fire. Now the crews have contained the fire.
