The witnesses identified her estranged boyfriend as walking out of the mercedes, arguing with her and shooting her. One neighbor came by and walked two son away for their protecting. In a few hours, the red cross will begin the process of shutting down this temporary shelter that has been set up here at the west Oakland Youth Center on market street. I am told a total of 11 people stayed here last night. Initially about 70 people checked inality is this shelter after they were forced from their apartments by last monday a massive fire at an Apartment Building on san pablo avenue, just a few blocks away from here. That fire killed four people and destroyed the building, which offered transitional housing for recovering drug addicts and the formerly homeless. The fire reportedly started when an unattended candle in someones unit. Officials say that the youth center where the shelter was set up needs the space back for children in this area to do activities during spring break. The shelter only meant to be a temporary solution. We talked last night with job survivor who told us she doesnt know where else shes going to go. This is causing closing and the people are homeless. They sold us out. Were sold out. The people of oakland business black people of oakland business theyre theyre trying to clean us out. Reporter city Officials Say theyre now working to find longterm housing for people who were left homeless by last weeks fire. The red cross is encouraging people who will have to leave this temporary shelter to go visit a client assistant center that is set up at franco gala plaza. That will be opened every day of the week. Police are no closer to learning what led to the gun fire. Plenty of witnesses and police saying the suspect shot there. Police were called to this home in the 2300 block of bueno street. At the same time, the suspect was backing out of the garage. He didnt get far. He was shot and killed and the bullet riddled honda civic crashed into a tree a block away. From there is the Elementary School placed on lockdown and that was lifted thereafter. The neighbors watched it unfold in the middle of the afternoon. And he left the area. As he drove out, he began to shoot at the police officers. It comes down to he fired at the officers and many shots were fired by him. Last month, a homeless man was shot by police who was harassing people in the mall parking lot with a knife.
