There is a lot of police cars, orange cones, a special Traffic Investigation Team is here. Itll affect the drive. The road is a major street. Around 3 40 a driver was traveling in the westbound lanes when he hit a pedestrian, cross the street near center. Emergency crews rushed him to the hospital. We are told he has life threatening injuries. Police say that the driver who hit him did stop and is cooperating. He did not have a farn his car at the time of the accident. Still under investigation but it the driver indicated that he was traveling in a westbound direction when the pedestrian stepped out in front of him and didnt have time to avoid the collision. Reporter police say that the pedestrian was jay walking he was hit. We dont know his identity but officers say he appeared to be in his 60s. Investigators interviewing the driver this he say it doesnt appear that speed, drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash. All of that is just preliminary as i said. There was a huge back up early this morning that extended for miles as folks tried to make their way into the Livermore Valley. It was a major delay for a lot of people. Crew was out doing Emergency Repair work after this hole opened up in the lanes yesterday. This happened along a bridge section of the freeway. Angel evacuated portion of the freeway a. Cording to a worker i spoke to you could see through this hole all the way down to the ground below. Now of course after so many strong storms here in the bay area hundreds of pot holes have opened up on freeways and surface streets across the area. Cal trans even said that the problem is as bad as it has ever been. There was also this huge sink hole that opened up along highway 13 in oakland. Such a severe sink hole that the chp named it steve. Its five feet across, ten feet deep. They are still working to get steve all patched up and hopefully that sink hole should be repaired in time for tonights drive. They say the owners of the building in the fruitvale district are violating laws designed to protect tenants. The oakland City Attorney took legal action against the owners of a 30 unit building at 1620 future vail avenue. The city said there are several problems. Some tenants said that they slept in a closet and on the Kitchen Floor for more than a year to avoid being bitten by bed bugs. Others says there is no heat the or working smoke alarms. The owners have been cited for sewage back ups, broken and missing windows and broken door locks. The ty is giving its owners 40 days to fix it or face charges of contempt of court. In marin there is been a turning point for five families who used to be homes. This morning they are waking up in their new apartments at oma village. The families come from shelters run by home ward bound of marin and their new two bedroom, two bath units rent for 775 a month. Investigators in berkeley want to know what caused the deaths of two people and two cats. They were found inside an apartment building. The bodies were found yesterday an an apartment on deacon street the off ashby. We are in berkeley right now so tell us why police say this is suspicious. Reporter when investigators went in and looked at the apartment they found in sign of forced entry. No sign of foul play and no sign of violence. The two adults and their cats found dead in the apartment were found around one yesterday afternoon. This building on deacon street near ashby and telegraph. There may have been Carbon Monoxide or chemical leak. Crew was bought in and the other resident was evacuated as a precaution this is a four plex. One of these residents lived in one of the four units. Officers made the find of the two bodies insigned after someone who knew the people called to have police check on them. One of the building owners said that all four apartments in this bile registere equipped with smoke alarms and Carbon Monoxide detectors. Its scary. I mean if they have ruled out Carbon Monoxide and other chemicals. Really weird that it happened so close to us. There is really no information. Reporter the coroner is preforming autopsies and tox tests on the two people who died. We believe they are a man and woman in their 30s but the Coroners Office has not released their identities and the Berkeley Police were not identitying their gender. Starting at nine recovery crews will start dredging up the submerged car in alamedaa creek. Family members looking for the woman found what appeared to be a car in the water yesterday. The Sheriffs Office flew a drone that liter confirmed there were tires beneath the surface. We are working an area over a half mile long. The terrain is pretty rough. So, it was like a need until a hey stack. Investigators believe that the teenager collided with another car and then plunged in to the water saturday morning. She was a College Student driving from her home in tracy to visit relatives in menlo park. Now to reach the car authorities lowering the water levels by shutting down nearby dam. Niles canyon road will be closed starting at ten during the recovery operation. Divers have recovered the body of a woman who car went in to the Sacramento River more than a week ago. The 48yearold was on her way to visit her sister when her car went in to the river. Daveers had to wait until saturday to recover her because it was so dangerous. Now there is a new Legal Development in the oakland warehouse fire where 36 people died last month. Attorneys for the manager of the warehouse say that there is evidence spat deadly fire didnt start in that building. Lawyers for the owner released a report that said that the fire started in an electrical problem at a building next door. They say that would mean their client is not responsible for the deadly fire. The city of oakland said that its still working with federal investigators to find the cause of the fire. They will not comment further on that report. A judge in San Francisco plans to fine pg e the maximum amount allowable for violating Pipeline Safety laws. Some College Students in the south bay wept out on a field trip to find out what the homeless are dealing with in their community. Santa clara unit students went to a camp in san jose. They passed out blankets, food and talked to the people there. It was part of a religious studies course. 125 Homeless People died on the streets of san jose last year. Its sad to see this. Many say it helped. The death toll continues to rise over last weeks of lance in central italy. Overnight search crews found seven more bodies in the resort town. Searchers have been walking side by side and poking the snow with poles to see if they can find anyone else in the tons of snow and debris. There was one bright spot in the rescue. Family members subpoena friends say that angel ramos was defending his brother during a fight. Vallejo Police Responded to calls about a big house party, people fighting and a woman screaming. Police say that ramos had a knife and was fighting a 16 yearold. However some of the witnesses came that he did not have a knife and that the teenager was not in danger. The 16yearold looked like a grown man. He was a big boy. Not like he was a little 16 yearold and angel was just jumping on him. People dont make great decisions when drunk. Its a tragic accident all fronts. Certainly nobody joins the police force to use deadly force but its part of the job. The Police Officer involved has been with the department for fiveyears. He is now on paid leave during the investigation. Happening today the Kansas City Royals pitcher killed in a car crash over the weekend will be laid to rest. He died on sunday and he was just 25. Authorities have not determined what caused the crash but they suspect speeding may have played a role. There are also reports that he was not wearing his seatbelt. Rehabilitative be laid to rest.
