If you are there trying to get off the island i would avoid the fruitvale bridge and go over to high street or go up to the tube. Avoid broadway getting there. I spoke to this station attendant who said things getting back to normal at the station on bart. Though they are experiencing some ten to 20 minute minor delays this is because of a problem with a disabled maintenance vehicle that was stuck on the tracks early this morning. We have some video. We were able to vaguely make out this disabled vehicle on the trakas we drove by on 980. There was no place to pull over and get video of it but we got video driving by. Not sure if we can show that to you. You can vaguely make out the outline of a disabled vehicle on that track there. There were bart trains stopped on either side of it the again, 45 minutes ago according to the folks here at bart they were able to tow that maintenance vehicle off the track and then service was resumed. This was between mcarthur and 19th street station there. Are still delays because of this problem this morning. We were told from ten to 20 minutes. The disabled maintenance vehicle was on the tracks on the west oakland station. The drive direction. Again that has been removed and now things slowly getting back to normal on bart. Those two band members were walking their hotel at Jack London Square over to yoshis nightclub where tower of power was set to preform last night. As the two men crossed the street and the train tracks that run along the street here they were struck by a amtrak train. This all happened about 8 00 last night. The trains crossing arms reportedly were down at the time of the accident. The two issue juried band members have been identified as the drummer and bassist. Both men suffered serious internal injuries after being hit but they were in fact awake. The gm of the nightclub heard the crash and ran outside to help. The mayor will announce the equity and immigrant services campaign. He will do it at a noon event at the Islamic Society of San Francisco on jones street. The citys budget and finance Committee Approved 1. 5 million to help nonprofit that help immigrants. After study found that many children are exposed to lead Health Officials are stepped up efforts to test for lead in older homes. The Alameda CountyHealthy Homes department walked us through part of the testing process. They test dust in the homes and they use an xray machine to test through layers the paint. The Department Said most homes built before 1978 are presume to have lead paint fingerprint lead is found the Alameda County can offer the Property Owner up to 10,000 to remedy the issue. The county is exploring other options as well. There are discussions now underway with oakland as far as exploring the possibility of some type of universal testing requirement for high risk communities. Right now the county is working with the city of oak lapped to develop a Proactive Inspection Program in the meantime their goal is to complete 100 units of lead safe housing specifically for children under the age of six. We are live from San Jose Police headquarters. Good morning. Good morning. Under this new deal officers would receive a 20 pay increase over the next three years. As the sign says here in front of the station the department the is hiring and they are hoping new agreement will help and get the current ones to t stay. Now under this new proposal that was negotiated between the city and the San Jose PoliceOfficers Union current officers would receive northbound immediate 5,000 dollar retention bonus. In july they would receive a 10 wage increase. Another 10 pay increase would be spread over the next two following years. In the last fiveyears, hundreds of Police Officers have left san jose for jobs in other cities and jurisdictions that offer higher pay and benefits. Officers working mandatory overtime and many detective positions eliminated. Remaining resources was dedicated to patrol and handling violent criminal. The department has around 9 hanovers way is way below the 1400 it had in 2008. Recruiting has been a challenge. A cad my classes have is shrunk and this increase in pay may help restore faith in the rank and file and prompt others to join the force and thats what the mayor and the police chief are hoping for.
