Slow at the Altamont Pass and now back to the desk. Police are looking into an anonymous letter warning about possible threats to students and staff at two schools on the peninsula. I just spoke with someone from the South San Francisco police department. And yes, there will be a number of extra officers on patrol in and around two high schools here in South San Francisco. One of those schools is the one where we are this morning. El camino high school. And the other is South San Francisco high school, five minutes up the road. The warning went out to parents and obviously students with a message from the School District. There was also an automated phone call made to parents as well. This is the South San Francisco police department. Currently investigating information received in an anonymous letter reporting alleged threats made against students and staff at South San Francisco high school and El Camino High School. You can tell from the message that authorities are not revealing any specifics about the nature of the threats. They are treating them seriously and they apparently got an anonymous letter from someone who told them about the threats and expressed concern for the well being of students and Staff Members at the high schools. Theyre keeping the schools open. Thats the point to be made. Both schools will remain open but the district and police are asking students and staff to on the two campuses to keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. [audio difficulties ] theyll be doing that for the remainder of the week. The point is that both of the high schools will remain open despite the threats. In marin county, a search now continues for two people who shot a 19yearold man near the Larkspur Landing movie theater. There was an argument in the parking lot. And thats when the shooters opened fire. The attackers escaped in a black suv. And the shooting victim was rushed to the hospital. This is an isolated incident. And they say it appears the suspects and the victim knew each other but the investigation continues. A husband and wife from brisbane may be linked to the gruesome discovery of a womans torso in San Francisco bay. Police in hayward announced a 23yearold man was charged with killing a young mother of two. He was arrested for murder of 22yearold stacey aguilar. The young mother was last seen early in the morning on valentines day leaving a party with her boyfriend. Police have not said if he was her boyfriend. Her body was found in the free month hills with several gunshot wounds. She leaves behind a 7yearold son and a 5yearold daughter. The San Francisco board of supervisors will hold a hearing examining how to address the citys homeless crisis. Last year more than 6600 people were living on the streets, but homeless advocates say that number is much higher. Theres a 10 00 meeting at city hall to rally support for more funding. And they accuse city leaders of criminalizing the homeless. People living in sidewalk tents the city has declared the division treat area a health hazard. And the city plans to tear down two other camps in the next few weeks. Administrators at heelsburg Healdsburg Elementary School lied was found in the drinking fountains. A Young California sea lion that survived a shark attack is recovering at its new home in vallejo. The sea lion was found stranded last summer after being attacked by a great white shark. He says what the government wants him to create is the equivalent of creating cancer. Janine de la vega is at apple headquarters in cupertino. So tell us what else tim cook said, janine. Reporter he said some interesting things. He told abc news that there should have been more dialogue between apple and the federal government before this court order was issued. He found out about it from the press. And now that puts him in an uncomfortable position. Hes ready to take this case to the Supreme Court if necessary. Last week a federal judge ordered apple to create software that would unlock the iphone of one of the San Bernardino killers. The software does not exist and if it did it would set a dangerous precedent. If we knew a way to get the information on the phone that we havent already given, if we knew a way to do this that would not expose hundreds of millions of other people, we would obviously do it. Reporter apple did recover some data from the last time the phone was backed up six weeks before the terrorist attack but Law Enforcement changed the password, otherwise, the remaining information would have been available on icloud. While cook is standing his ground. U. S. Attorney general Loretta Lynch made her case to congress yesterday on why apple should comply with the court order. Four Oakland Police officers still on leave this morning after one was arrested, accused of assaulting an Alameda County probation officer at her home. This incident happened december 7th. Sources are telling ktvu that collin faith was drinking with other officers at a bar. When they decided to go to a home. They showed up at the wrong house. He allegedly jumped on and attacked the woman and demanded to go into her home. I came back out. And then i saw some of the neighbors there. And they are assisting. And i heard him using value gas and rubber language towards the neighbors that came out. And was telling her to shut up and get away from me. Faith was arrested on suspicion of assault and public intoxication but no formal charges have been filed. The woman and her attorney filed a claim accusing Oakland Police of covering up the incident. The Oakland Police said it takes all allegations involving employees seriously. Tension filled a room of people upset by the San Francisco police department. Federal officials are hoping the meetings will help rebuild the trust lost between the force and the community. The u. S. Department of justice held the first of the listening sessions to hear from the community about concerns over the police department. You can hear how heated it got. About 100 people gathered during the meeting held at Thurgood Marshall high school. The d. O. G. Is spearheading the probe to determine the key issues. And after hearing from the community they will eventually assess how to address the issues through recommendations. The review is expected to take about two years and will include public reports every six months. San francisco by the way is the 10th Law Enforcement agency to be reviewed since the special d. O. J. The department estimates that each Police Officer will record two hours of video per shift. There have been growing calls for body cameras following Police Officer involved shootings. Improving the jail system of santa clara is among the Top Priorities of the board of supervisors. The board supervisor called this the year of transformation. He wants to change the way inmates and their families are treated. And he wants to keep the mentally ill out of jail whenever possible. And hes calling for independent oversight of the jail system and the construction of a new main jail replacing the existing building. The naacp is demanding the removal of a san jose Police Officer who was fired for sending threatening tweets and then given his job back. White was fired last year after tweeting what were perceived as threatening messages aimed at the supporters of the black lives matter movement. An arbitrator ruled the firing was not justified saying he was responding to perceived threats against his family. An attorney has filed a motion to try and force the city to challenge the decision to reinstate him. What were asking the for the city to challenge the reinstatement. A judge would decide whether the reinstatement of this particular officer is contrary to policy and a danger to the public. We have to have an evaluation of the facts. Were not there yet. The Department Says officer white is on desk duty and not back on the streets. The city council could decide whether to appeal his reinstatement as soon as next week. An employee at a customs and Border Protection location in alameda was hospitalized after opening up an envelope with a suspicious substance inside. The woman who opened the envelope complained about feeling dizzy and nauseous. Almost two dozen employees were quarantined and evacuated for three hours. Two others complained about feeling sick. The crews were not able to immediately locate that envelope or find traces of that possible powder. The government is changing how Illegal Immigrants are processed following the shooting death of kate stninly.
