Reporter but the opening has been put on hold. The Sharper ImageRehab Facility is set to move into this building across the street from the Duboce Triangle neighborhood. The yellow building, two stories as the corner of church and duboce. The opening was put on hold because of the backlash from neighbors. A lot of people turned out for the Community Meeting put on by the private operator of the proposed clinic. Some people in the Duboce Triangle neighborhood are worried that the center would be too close to nearby schools and daycare facilities. And some are within 250 feet and thats the buffer zone set by the department of corrections. Sharper future will serve 78 patrolled sex offenders at this site. And those offenders are considered low risk. Still neighbors have concerns. Youre not going to sit here and tell me that you did not know there was a school been four or five blocks from here that youre trying to do this . We plan to move in and supervisor wiener asking us to do more community notification. So thats what weve been doing. Weve been doing more meetings with the community. Sharper future is planning to relocate from the location on market street. The founders of the facility say they are working now with the city to notify people who live here in the Duboce Triangle neighborhood. The complaint we heard over and over is that there wasnt enough communication leading up to the opening. Thats where the concern lies. Prosecutors in San Francisco say theres not enough evidence right now to charge a suspect with a stabbing death of a popular deejay. 22yearold Nestor Canchola was arrested in connection with the stabbing of 29yearold joseph razo outside of a nightclub. Canchola and several other people attacked razo and his friends. Hes free on bail for pending weapon charges. The murder case is still under investigation. A suspect in a domestic dispute is in stable condition after he was shot by daly city police. Police were audiologist at noon yesterday about a man chasing a woman. Witnesses say he had a knife. The suspect was chased into a backyard near 101. The officer confronted the suspect and shot him once in the arm. There are few details about the suspect and the investigation is just beginning. Two nuns from france spent the past eight years feeding the homeless in San Francisco. And they may soon be homeless themselves. The sisters mary of notre dame operate a soup kitchen in the tenderloin. And the landlord sent them a notice saying he was raisings the rent from 3600 to 5500. And they cant pay the increase and they face possible eviction. The more you give to them, the more you get back to yourself. At least three meals a week i depend on. These are the best meals i get actually because the sisters are theyre the sisters. They do the best. The nuns sleep in the room in the back. They survive financially by selling homemade pastries at farmers markets and get donations. They hope to find a new place to continue the work. The landlord is out of the country right now and will be meeting with the sisters once he comes back later this week. Drivers who are tired of potholes and congestion may be encouraged by a proposal the San Jose City council will consider today. Its a plan to improve Public Transit and fix the roads and it comes at a cost to taxpayers. We are talking about a sales tax increase right now. Its 8. 75 in the county. And if the measure is put on a ballot. It would increase it and if approved it would increase it to half a percent more. And some of the money would go to helping to fund bart extending into san jose. You can see the construction on the elevated tracks at this new station in san jose. Right now this is the last stop. This afternoon the council will decide whether to recommend putting a county wide measure on the November November ballot to increase the sales tax to 9. 25. The alternative to this transportation package is doing nothing and thats not a tolerable alternative for the thousands of commuters who are dealing with gridlock every morning and every evening. Weve got to move forward. And that means investing in infrastructure we need to create the mobility that big cities routinely have with transit. The sales tax measure would raise 6 billion over 30 years for transportation and a portion would go to Silicon Valley and also go to fixing potholes, repairs roads, and building highway interchanges. This is all in an effort to relieve congestion. Particularly north san jose, west san jose. And youll hear what people think about the proposal coming up at 7 30. Well look forward to the update. People in benecia are voicing concerns over plans for valero refinery to receive crude Oil Shipments by train. People packed a planning meeting last night. Four nights have been set aside for comment forand against the plan. Valero wants to build a rail terminal. And the project would allow tankers to unload at the refinery each day. Opponents are concerned about possible derailments and fires. If there was an explosion and fire, the smoke will blow all over the region. And this is a notably windy area. The crudes that we bring in by ship today with the same crudes we bring in by rail. And some of the crudes involved in the accidents are different. In 2013, 47 people were killed in quebec after a crude oil train derailed there. Another derailment in virginia led to the evacuation of two towns.
