Lets go back to the desk. Thousands of county employees in San Bernardino will go back to work today, five days after a county restaurant inspector and his wife killed 14 of his coworkers. The reopening of the county government offices signals an effort to return to normalcy, for a community that has been in shock and mourning since the killings last wednesday. Following the attacker, all offices shut down except for essential services. While most county workers are returning to work today, those at the Environmental Health Services Division where the shooter worked will be off at least one more week. The investigation into the San Bernardino shooting is now expanding overseas. The interior minister of pakistan says he has launched his own investigation into the massacre. He says he will work with federal authorities in the u. S. Thats because the female shooter was born in pakistan before moving here to the united states. The couple was shot and killed by police in a gun battle following their shooting rampage. It was a weekend of tears and vigils for family and friends of the San Bernardino shooting victims. There were a number of Prayer Services and vigils to honor the 14 people who lost their lives. Some people say the shooting has tested their faith, but they believe the community will pull through this tragedy. The San Bernardino board of supervisors is planning to hold a Memorial Service for the victims today. President obama laid out a fourpart plan to combat isis in the wake of the attacks in San Bernardino in paris. Brian flores in our newsroom now with what the president is saying and why everyone is not agreeing with the commanderin chief. In particular, republican candidate marco rubio but not only did the president talk about isis, he renewed his call for gun control. Also despite a growing call to send more troops to the middle east, the president basically ruled it out saying that before now will continue specific drone strikes on specific isis targets. More fbi investigations and sending more special operations forces. Many criticized the president for not doing enough to address the recent terror attacks in paris and San Bernardino. Many see this as basically an amplification of what were already doing. What we can do and must do is make it harder for them to kill. Very disappointed tonight. Not only did the president not make things better, i fear he may have made things worse in the minds of many americans. One thing the president did say was the reexamination of the k1 visa program that allowed one of the attackers to come to the u. S. There was also a somewhat bay area connection to when the president addressed many Tech Companies to cooperate more with local Law Enforcement to help pinpoint suspected terrorists. Theres also an acknowledgment that these terrorist threats have entered a new phase and also this week, pam, democrats will unveil a new package of changes that could keep the country safer. Despite president obamas call for congress to make it more difficult for terrorists to get guns, congress is unlikely to act on any new guncontrol legislation. Republicans continue to oppose any new gun laws and saying the problem isnt guns, its the terrorists. Just last week a bill sponsored by california senator Dianne Feinstein that would prohibit people on terrorist watch lists from buying guns failed in the senate. 6 05. A near midair collision between a drone and a chp helicopter in martinez is raising serious concerns now. Reporter San Jose International airport is one of the busier airports in the bay area and drones are just now one extra thing pilots have to worry about. Anyone can buy one and theres not a lot of regulation. Let me tell you about this incident that happened over the weekend. It was an International Student from china who lives at this home in martinez. He was flying the drone that cost about 1000. He was flying it on saturday. Looks similar to this one youre looking at. It can go as high as 4500 feet which puts it in the path of an aircraft. Authorities say he was flying it also high and he let it get out of sight. The drone came within 30 feet of a chp helicopter flying along highway for between the morello and lumber exits. The pilot had to banked the helicopter hard to avoid colliding with the drone. Some pilots are concerned because the faa predicts 1 million drones are going to be given as Christmas Gifts this season. 1 million drones . To anyone from six to 60 with zero regulation. With recommendations and no way of guaranteeing that they know what theyre doing with it. Reporter in the martinez incident, the helicopter was going over 100 miles an hour and pilots say the 2. 5pound drone could have gone through the windshield or into the rotors, bringing it down. The host family of the young man who was flying the drone said, he didnt mean any harm. He wasnt cited or arrested but he could, depending on what comes of that investigation. Justice department will investigate the Chicago Police department maybe as early as this week. This comes after more protests of the week in chicago over the death of 17yearold Laquan Mcdonald more than a year ago. He died after being shot 16 times by a Chicago Police officer who has now been charged with murder. Mcdonalds death is already being investigated and this new probe would be a wider investigation into the practices and patterns of the Chicago Police department. We are looking for a federal investigation not just into the actions of the police department, but also actions of the states attorneys office. The new federal investigation is expected to be similar to the ones carried out in ferguson, missouri and in baltimore, maryland. Chicagos city council already approved a 5 million settlement with donalds family. Today marks 74 years since the japanese attack on pearl harbor. More than 2000 people were killed in that attack. President Franklin Roosevelt famously called december 7, 1941 a date which we live in infamy. The navy and National Parks service will cohost a remembrance event in honolulu today. Also today the beacon atop mount diablo will be lighted in honor of those who lost their lives at pearl harbor. The searchlight was shut off after the attack in 1941. The beacon will be lit remotely at sunset. The man who founded the popular Kitchen Stores Williams Sonoma has died. Chuck williams died peacefully at the age of 100 in his sleep. Williams said he first got the idea for a Kitchen Store after spending two weeks in paris in the early 1950s. Three years later he opened his first store in sonoma. In 1958 he moved to San Franciscos union square. He sold most of the company in the 1970s but he continued to be involved including creating a line of popular cookbooks. A campground that served as a temporary home for victims of the valley fire is set to close today. The Hidden Valley Lake Association has provided showers, bathrooms and an free camping for victims since septembers fire but according to the press democrat, the camp site bordered by streams which is causing some concerns about safety. People who have been staying at the campground are being offered other Housing Options about about half of them have already moved out of the area. Today in San Francisco, a Supervisors Committee will talk about controversial new rules for bicyclists. Supervisor introduced the legislation that would let bicyclists treat stop signs like yield signs. These price hikes will be in effect on at least six months. Officials say they evaluate how much a parking lot is used to figure out the parking fees. Tonight in San Francisco a public forum will be held about last weeks Deadly Police shooting of a man in the Bayview District. Ktvu fox 2s alex savidge is in San Francisco this morning and you see this controversial issue is putting the police chief on the defensive, alex . Reporter it certainly is, dave. There is growing anger in this community over the killing of mario woods by San Francisco Police Officers last week. Some have even called for the chief of police to step down. And later on tonight there will be a community meeting. It will be hosted by the naacp here at Third Baptist Church in San Francisco. And you can bet quite a few people will be on hand for this meeting. Much of what took place last wednesday in the Bayview District was captured on cell phone video by several witnesses. San Francisco Police say woods was shot by five officers because he refused to drop a knife that he was holding. Many people who watched the videos believe that police didnt have to kill him. You could have shot the guy in the leg reporter this was the scene on friday night. Things got quite heated as police chief greg suhr hosted a town hall meeting to discuss the details of this case. Nearly 300 people were on hand at city college of San Francisco and many in the crowd made it clear that they are angry and frustrated, many say this killing was an example of Excessive Force by police, but the chief is standing by his officers. He says they were justified. A hard meeting. Raw feelings. People have a right to be upset. We have a responsibility to go to the community and have the conversation. A lot of people in that room are friends of mine from my time in the bayview. Its a horrible situation. Reporter chief suhr also points out that the officers involved in the shooting tried to disarm woods using beanbag rounds and also pepper spray. But they were not successful. By the way, chief suhr has rejected any calls for his resignation. He understands this is a difficult situation that he is faced with but he wants to work through the situation with the community and again tonight, there will be another community meeting. This this one hosted by the naacp and it will happen at Third Baptist Church in San Francisco on mcallister street. Chp searching for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run on interstate 80 in richmond yesterday morning. It happened on eastbound 80 near carlson boulevard just after 4 00 yesterday morning. The chp says it doesnt know what the man was doing out there on the freeway but its believed he was hit by someone in a red honda who then drove away. The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital. If you have any information, call the chp. A crash involving at least three cars caused a major mess in San Franciscos tenderloin area. Ktvus photographer was in the area as Police Responded to the scene at leavenworth and geary last night. One suv ended up on the sidewalk. Two other cars were damaged. People were watching as officers responded to the scene. At least one person was taken away in an ambulance. So far there is no information about that crash. Police in palo alto are looking for four a man they say robbed a woman in her home after they could not agree on gardening work. It happened at a home on campus drive last tuesday. Police say woman in her 70s was home alone when a man knocked on her door and asked if she needed a gardner. After they couldnt come to an agreement, police say the suspect groped her chest. She threatened to call police and he left. Police say the suspect is described as latino, 57, about 170 pounds with short straight black hair. He drove away in a green pickup truck with writing on the side. Anyone with information is asked to call call palo alto police. The racketeering trial against Chinatown Association leader raymond chow is set to resume today. The trial has been centered around an undercover fbi agent testimony. He is expected to return to the witness stand today. Outpaces 162 counts including the trafficking of guns, liquor and stolen goods. He has also been charged in connection with two murders. The Marin Humane Society says the Business Owner in novato had been feeding the orange tabby cat for about two months when he decided to take the cat in for a checkup at the Animal Shelter and it turns out the cat was microchipped and shelter was able to contact her owners. Police have arrested the mother of a baby who was buried alive near a bike path two weeks ago. Los angeles county sheriffs deputies are not releasing her identity. The baby girl was believed to be just 36 hours old when she was discovered. This was in compton in southern california. The deputies found the baby wrapped in a hospital blanket, buried in a hole under loose dirt and a piece of asphalt. That baby was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. A man accused in london of stabbing two people at a subway station appeared in court today and he was charged with attempted murder. British authorities want to know if saturdays knife attack inside the subway station was a terrorist attack. Witnesses say the attacker shouted, this is for syria, before stabbing two people. 29yearold man was subdued by officers using a stun gun. One of the stabbing victims was hospitalized with very serious injuries. The second person suffered a minor injuries at did not require treatment. This comes just days after the British Parliament approved airstrikes on isis targets in syria.
