The police have uncovered a link between a deadly shooting on a marin county hiking trail with a shooting in golden state park. San Francisco Police have within trying to figure out who killed a backpacker from canada found dead in golden state park this weekend. Investigators thought the case had similarities to the shooting death of a hiker in marin county on monday night. Investigators with san Francisco Police reached out to the Marin County Sheriff Office and they believe the cases are connected. Audrey carry was found shot to death in the park on saturday morning. That was after the first day of the blue grass festival. She was shot and killed in a wooded area like steve carter who was killed along a hiking trail near fairfield in a rural area of marin county. Now on wednesday, the Marin County Sheriff Office announced that three people were arrested in portland, oregon in connection with carters killing. 23yearold morrison lampley, sean ancold and lill al good. Investigators say the three accused killers were found with the gun that was used to shoot carter and his dog. The big question here is what was the motive for these two crimes. It appears we have three people that identify as having three lost souls and trying to identify exactly what their motivation, their state of mind. All of these will come to play in the prosecution. Carter and his wife were playing with friends as she underwent treatment for cancer. There will be a public memorial for the 67yearold and that will be scheduled for the end of this month on october 31. Those three people behind bars in portland, oregon accused of the two crimes in the bay area, they remain in custody in oregon, its unclear when they will be brought back here to the bay area to face charges. A followup to a story we talked about yesterday, one of the americans who helped stop that terrorist attack in france is in serious condition yesterday after being stabbed during a fight outside a sacramento bar. Spencer stone is being treated for three stab wounds at u. C. Davis medical center. Hes heavily sedated. He had surgery yesterday. This Surveillance Video shows stone in a street fight with two men early thank morning. Airman stones condition is serious, while he has sustained significant injuries, hi care team anticipates a full recovery. You recall stone suffered injuries on his left hand when he and two childhood friends stopped the attack on a train in france. Police say that incident and the fight are not connected. So this morning at 120 hours several of our students got into a confrontation, the confrontation turned physical and one of our students steven jones, 18yearold produced a handgun and shot four of our other students. One of our students is deceased, the other three are treated at flagstaff medical center. We cant release a lot of details at this time. All of the resources of the nau pd and Law Enforcement are assisting us. Many people are involved and need to be interviewed and a lot of things need to be accomplished before we can release more details. Well have more information later out of public affairs. At 8 00 well try to give you an update. As i said we have one student deceased and three others being treated at the medical center. Talk about the other victims. Im not aware of the specific condition of the other three students right now. They were suffering from one shot wounds. What can you tell us what happened after. Take steven jones into custody. Steven was taken into custody by nau officers. He stopped his action with the handgun as everyone calmed down. Our officer was able to take him into custody without incident. What was the confrontation about. I dont know. Did they know each other well. I dont know that. Im sorry to be vague, we dont know the answer. I dont know if they are fraternity. They were student groups [no audio] there were four people hurt. Is the suspect cooperating with police. Yes [indiscernible] i cant tell you that at this time. We have not been able to process the crime scene. Were waiting for the sun to come up. Were all four shooting victims students. Were they shot multiple times or once . It would be safe to say multiple times. Did he just have bun gun one gun. We believe so. Do we believe they may have been i dont know that. It was 1 20 in the morning. Students come and go from campus. Was the resident hall on lockdown. We put out an alert to let our students know to shelter in place until we could figure out what we had. Nothing happened in the resident halls. That information was put out through the nau alert system. How does nawork here . Our alert system works the same as everyone elses. We have a Message Service and tell people of an incident which we d. We put out active shooter alert and put out information about the location and the situation had stablized and the campus was safe. What time did the aleft go out on campus. I dont have that on the top of my head. The initial alert went out at 2 52. Im a student. It was over an hour. Sometimes it takes us time to stabilize the situation before we can get the information out for the alert. The situation was stablized right away. They knew what they had. They put the alert out as a precautionary measure, not one that students had to take measures to protect themselves. I dont know the actual timeline yet when they were sent.
