The house approved two bills including kates law anytimed after the woman allegedly shot and killed by an inlegal immigrant. We are at pier14. Thats where kate was killed almost two years ago. It would increase the penalty for undocumented immigrants who enter the United States illegally after deportation. Especially if they have criminal records. This would block federal grants from the Justice Department and Homeland Security to cities that wont cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The san jose mayor said even if it does become law season jose wouldnt loose a lot of funding. I expect we will continue to do what we are doing. It doesnt mean we will inform ice or talk to ice about whatever the police are doing and it doesnt mean we will cooperate with ice. He said san jose doesnt depend a lot on federal funding for public safety. That bill now goes to the senate for a vote. The federal government is confirming a new immigration crack down. The Trump Administration plans to arrest parents and other relatives who authorities believe smuggled their children in to the United States. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the new Surge Initiative is intended to identity and arrest adults who paid smugglers to bring children across the border. This is a sharp change from the Obama Administration in which tens of thousands of children fled central and south America Movement a lawyer for a man from el salvador in the United States illegally said he will be awarded 190,000 in a settlement with the city of San Francisco. He reached the settlement but the board still has to approve it. The inspector generals report for three fiscal years ending in 2015 did not accuse the department of fraud but it was criticized for its handling of money including the type of accounts that it used as well as failing to spend more than a million it received for aiding federal investigations. The San Jose Police department was criticized for a 34,000 dollar contract for Window Blinds that was awarded to a Company Owned by a City Employees spouse. The city said it agree was the conclusions and it is working to resolve them. The department of justice said it would close the case once the city showed evidence of improvement. It took a few days longer than expected but last night the Oakland City Council proved a new two year budget. The city council planned to vote on that budget monday night but the special hearing was disrupted by protests. Just hours after bart said all bart trains now have working security cameras, there was a report of an attack on a bart train. Henry lee explains why it may take a while for bart police to get that video. Reporter its happened again. Another attack on board a bart train. At about 11 wednesday night a group of teenager as tacked a victim on a train going to dublin. The victim was punched and had a phone stolen. The train operator called it in. This is a physical altercation . Yes. I was looking back i saw them swinging at someone that was in the second car. Reporter the attack happened just hours after bart announced that all of its train cars are outfitted cameras. Four per car. There is a big catch. It cannot be seen live in realtime. Reporter that means that bart police have to request that the footage be pulled off a digital recorder in each car. A process that takes time. Especially as victims dont report crimes immediately or respect sure the car they were in. A bart Police Source said that its a minimum of days. The source said if the right people were on duty it could be done the same day but said that i have never seen it done. Former bart police chief said that the cameras are on bart trains may not prevent all crimes but that video after the fact can still help solve crimes. In the past two thirds of the cameras on bart trains were decoys. The fact that the train cars now have cameras that are operational but can also record and store footage that can be retrieved and used as evidence. Its a vast improvement over having no video. Federal judge has blocked a new state law banning the possession of gun magazines that hold more than ten bullets. It was due to take Effect Tomorrow after being approved by voters last year. A Federal District court judge in san diego ruled that the ban violates the Second Amendment and amounts to the government taking private property without compensation. The sale of high capacity magazines in california was banned in the year 2000 but its still legal to possess them in most cities. The evening commute in nevado turned deadly. A man was killed and a woman was critically injed in a crash. Four vehicles were involved in this crash on eastbound highway 37 near atherton about three in the afternoon. The crash killed the driver of the first car that was hit. A woman in the passenger seat of that same car was left with critical injuries. They said since 2006 the toxic soil hasnt been cleaned up properly. Theya accuse the company of filing false documents. Minimum wage employees in San Francisco will see a hike in their pay starting this weekend. The minimum wage is going up a dollar to 14 an hour on saturday. San jose also is raising its minimum wage. I just dont understand how someones how her best friend could run her over and leave her to tie in the street. Reporter neighbors who didnt want to be on camera pointed out where they saw the bloody scene that police are calling a homicide. The evidence indicating that it was a action on purpose to hit her. Reporter police found the 23yearold in the road with major injuries. They say that she was taken to the hospital in san jose where despite medical treatment she died. Her name has not been released. We believe that they were out the night before together and at some point while they were driving an altercation started in the vehicle which then lead to the two of them getting out of the vehicle. Reporter she was arrested at the intersection wednesday. Not far from the hospital where she was unaware her childhood friend had died. Its unclear what the fight was over. They believe alcohol may have been involved and say other people in the car witnessed the crime which shocked a city councilmember who lives in the area. Its very surprising.
