Richmond police and the Highway Patrol are investigating a shooting on interstate 80 that happened yesterday. A man and woman were hurt, three people were detained. Kristin, you are there tell us more about the shooting cost suspect and how commuters were affect. Dust reporter yes, reporter yes, they are working together on the investigation as you said, the latest word is that three people are in custody. And, the shooting happened at around 3 30 pm. A man and a woman were in a minivan heading eastbound near the san pablo exit. They say that shots rang out. No word shots were fired out of both vehicles or just one of them. We do know that the occupants were struck, a man injured so badly thats needed to be airlifted. There were multiple witnesses to the shooting including a driver of a red volvo who stopped to help those injured. We do have multiple people who pulled over our witnesses. We have contacted almost all of them to get their statements. And within an hour of the shooting, three suspects were taken into custody. They say that witnesses helped to leave them there. And, no identity of those suspects in the case. And, they were working together to try to find more information about all of them involved in the incident. The mac before you go, how was evening commute affected by all that was happening out there . You yes. As you may imagine, it was a nightmare for anyone who is on the 80. And, we had those who were stuck on the freeway. This is video. The freeway closed for hours while they were treated and transported. They looked for evidence, those who thought that they could get off at the freeway only found more traffic on city streets. The freeway again, shut down for five hours and that meant atrophic mass through the evening commute. Anyone who is out on the roads, it was a very rough night. Yes. I saw that backed up all the way into marin county. People trying to go across the bridge, it was just a mess. Thank you for that update. And in the meantime, Santa Clara Police expected to tell us more about a deadly shooting of a man by a police officer. About 5 pm, they got a 911 call, someone said that their son was acting out of control. The police responded, they went to a home just off of the expressway, they encountered a man in his 20s, we do not know all those details but they say that an officer first used his taser and then, the situation escalated. The officer shot and killed the man. During their contacts with the officer, the incident transitioned into a situation where the officer had to use deadly force. We do not know yet whether the man had a weapon. As is standard protocol, the officer who filed the shot is best to fired the shot is on administrative leave. We are told that the officer has been there for eight years. San jose city hall was packed as victims of the devastating floods demanded answers. They want to know how mistakes made by officials after the flooding will be come back to it will be connected. And they should have issued an advisory on february 19 which was two days but more the water swamped 500 homes causing 73 million in property damage. More than a dozen people including a coach could face charges for hazing students at napa high school. Police say that it started as an assault investigation last fall and it grew into a case of hazing with separate incidents dating back to the 2015 2016 school year. They identified 14 alleged offenders and a coach who they say that did not properly report the incident. If you are deemed a mandated reporter and you see some sort of alachua possible child abuse or you are aware of information that you have to report it. Police say that the alleged incident involves teammates assaulting other teammates by holding them down hitting, grabbing them. The district is conducting its own review but some critics say that it is taking too long. Investigators have released a sketch of the suspect wanted in the shooting of a command. And today in seattle, being treated as a hate crime, the victim says that the gunman approached him in his driveway and told him to go back to your own country. The man was then shot in the arm, the suspect was described as white between 35 and 40 years old, 6 feet tall, and he was wearing a dark hoodie and mask that cover the lower part of his face. Theres a sketch. And a 6000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. A man on trial for a hate crime in San Francisco was found guilty. Prosecutors say that the 37 yearold waved a knife at an africanamerican man who is greeting children at a summer camp last july. And, they shouted racial slurs and profanity and threatened a neighbor. A large swastika tattoo was also seen. He was not wearing a shirt at the time. A bomb threat made to the community center, is the hoax. It was evacuated after receiving a threat yesterday. They swept the building, they didnt find anything. Investigators say that the threat was made by email and they are trying to track down the person who sent it. Anonymous bomb threats have spiked to about 140 incidents. And, one arrest was made last week however a majority of those incidents remained unsolved. And, 5 25 am hoping to heal wounds. We just need men above reproach that can be bought or sold. Public records from the university of california show widespread Sexual Misconduct among some employees in many cases by the teaching faculty. The system released files showing more than 100 employees violated excellent misconduct employees. Live in the newsroom, we understand many of those cases, some of the accused faculty members have resigned. The files are recently released after a Public Information request in are being criticized for showing a lack of transparency that occurred not only at berkeley but at nine other campuses. At the santa cruz, a student accused her latin studies professor of raping her during a 2015 winetasting. He denied the allegations and allegedly told investigators that the sex was consensual. A letter said that his conduct constituted Sexual Assault and he should be dismissed from the university. He resigned before any action was taken. University later paid more than 1 million to his accuser. A professor was investigating when he claimed that he invited her to his home and put his hands up to student shirt. He left the school before receiving any discipline. The Associated Press has reported that in several cases rumors were there for years before any action was taken. One professor agreed to take a pay cut and six faculty members resigned or retired before they finished their investigation. This is all on the heels of a sexualharassment scandal in which a law school deemed an astronomy professor and a diving team were among those who were accused of sexual harassment. He revealed that they had 19 sexualharassment cases. Also in our area, university of california San Francisco reported 26 cases of sexual harassment. They documents the documents reveal those employees are still at work at those campuses. All right. Thank you. It is 5 34 am. San franciscos new police chief is trying to repair Community Relationships which are damaged by several officer involved shootings. Last night, he met with Community Members including supporters of mario woods. A man who shot and killed by police more than a year ago. Amberly has more on the demands for change. We can we must win in the name of justice. It was a chance for San Francisco police chief to meet with people of the neighborhood. Adhere to try to make things better. The mother of mario the man the man killed by police spoke to chief scott about what she would like to see in the police department. We just need men above reproach that cant be bought or sold, have integrity and not look at a group of people as animals. I am hoping that you can bring change in the police force that doesnt care about black people. They are demanding that those officers be charged and that there be an independent investigation of racial profiling. We spoke with him about those demands before the meeting started. In we have to let the system, the due process play out. The evidence is there. And those appropriate decisions will be made. They plan to hold town Hall Meetings to answer questions within 10 days of officer involved shootings. Just as the predecessor did. He says he has experienced firsthand the impact that Police Shootings have on families when he was with the Los Angeles Police department. One of the hardest things that i have ever had to do was walk a mother and a father into a crime scene in officer involved shooting where their son had lost his life at the hands of the department i work for. They feel very cerebral because theres no tangible outcomes. And its a long process to get change. And it was a very complicated process. So i think that the difficult part is being patient. That resident tells me that she does have hope that the change will come. People at the meeting said that they want transparency. And, in San Francisco amberly ktvu. A Richmond Police officer is in the hospital after a driver hit his motorcycle yesterday. It happened about 7 30 am. A driver made a quick left turn on the w. Cutting blvd. Near chestnut street. And, he suffered serious internal injuries he is reportedly in stable condition. He will undergo surgery in the next couple of days. Freshman police are reminding drivers to be more alert. This is an added risk to our officers and we ask that the public really keep an eye for most cyclists. The driver has been fully cooperating during the investigation and alcohol doesnt appear to be a factor. 530 say evan a. M. They say that his thumbprint was found on the battery and the trial is set to resume on monday. And, investigating two separate assaults. The San Mateo County Sheriffs Office released this suspect. 35 to 40 years old about 56. Weighing about 200 pounds. He is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the universities train station. He said that he started talking about the victim and he grabbed her. She fought with him before he ran away. In the meantime, police are investigating another Sexual Assault. But assault happened a few hours earlier at the transit station. They had just gotten off of a bus in the notice that a man was walking behind her. He ran up from behind and grabbed her. She screamed and he let go. She ran and called 911. The sign of authorities, dont know if the two cases are connected. They released a preliminary report into last month small plane crash. The killed four people and injured another. That report shows that the pilot had trouble starting the left engine before taking off from the airport. He is best he had to try several times before it finally worked. Two people died in that accident. Then, on tuesday, 1 to 2 survivors died from burn injuries. The initial report does not state the cause of the crash but a final report could take up to a year and a half. 5 40 am, detained yesterday by San Francisco police for public drunkenness. The police are saying that smith was a passenger. And, he collided with an under cover police car. Two officers were taken to the hospital with nonlife running injuries. Smith was detained for public intoxication he was released five hours later. They say that they also found a rum bottle and other alcohol in the suv. No criminal charges were filed against smith for intoxication. I had to handle something and i was talking to her friend who is locked in there. And, thats what i want to go do.
