We also have a ramp closure in san jose. Northbound 101 connector ramp to 880 is shut down because of an officerinvolved shooting, involving a chp officer. This is video taken a little earlier as they are looking for evidence in this particular shot here. Northbound 101 to northbound 880 san jose. That ramp is going to stay close heed until they finish their investigation. There you see them putting someone into the medic vehicle. We assume thats the person who was shot. Lets move along to some of the other traffic here. We have 580 already slow, coming in from 205, and slow traffic, of course, getting to the area here. Not a major commute problem in livermore or pleasanton, but it will be slow there as you drive through the area. We have lanes closed in gilroy between 25 and 10th, and thats causing a lot of slow traffic on 25, and also on some of the other side roads in gilroy. Please give yourself plenty of extra time. Lets go to some pictures. This is moving well, and traffic is looking good up todown. At the bay bridge toll plaza, more people showing up. This monday is going to be a touch one, and lot of people are coming back from their long winter break, christmas break, whatever it is, whatever the schools are observe 0ing. A little more than three hours ago, the Russian River in sonny county ran overredded flood Sonoma County riched flood reached flood levels. That river has risen more than 17 feet since yesterday morning, but most of the people who live in the area say with the break in the rain, the water wont reach main street. Last night, a few Business Owners checked on their shops and told us theyre not worried. I doubt it will get higher than 30, 32 feet, 33 feet maybe. When do you get concerned . 41, and and have only had that three times since ive been here. Its now close to 34 feet. The people who live and work there say its been a lot worse in the past, but theyll keep watching the skies as another storm approaches. Meanwhile, the Sonoma Office of education has closed several schools today. All of the schools in the clearer gale, and Harmony School districts, will be closed today. The Alexander Valley school. Chool. A San Jose Police car stalled out in standing worts where the road was closed. The officer was trying to rescue a woman stuck in a car, and tried to drive through the water to get to her. The water so was so deep, the police car stalled. But the officer was not hurt. Part of highway 1 in pacifica was closed because of a mudslide. It happened last night. Pacifica police say there is no estimate on when that road will reopen. They are telling people take an alternate route to get around the mudslide. And the storm is also causing big problems in the sierra. Both directions near donor lake still closed this morning. The westbound lane hes shut down because of a mudslide. This photo of the muddy mess was posted on their facebook page. The westbound lanes are not expected to reopen until at least this afterthan. No estimate on when the east bound lanes will reopen. The y rain prompted a Flash Flood Warning yesterday in santa clara county. Reporter the creek in morgan hill overtopping its banks, causing this. The roadway was completely flooded. Drivers still drove through it despits g them to proceed with case. Brent da elliot has never seen the creek this high. Lots of flooded businesses. Cars stuck down on san pedro stuck in the water, and by monterey and san pedro, and theres lots of places the water is getting really high. Reporter the Water District reporting parts along watsonville road flooded by as much as two feet. If this neighborhood on second street, water levels came dangerously close to homes front doors. Were lucky our house is high enough. We do have neighbors across the street who have actually said there was water in their house. So its a little concerning. Reporter these two residents moved into this home a month ago, and didnt expect the flooding. I was looking out my wind all day, like, oh, my god, it just keptings into rising and rising so fast. We had to move our cars down the street, because they would have been submerge inned under water. It was crazy. Sandbags. Lot offers sandbags. Were going to head he out and get some more sand bags. Reporter and he wasnt the only one. The sandbag station at the firehouse in he morgan hill was busy. This family from san martin said that water rushed into their garage. Worried. We dont know what is going to happen, though. The rain is going to be coming harder. Reporter in san jose, the Guadalupe River rose quickly. This san jose man decided to take a dip in the water. He got out safely, but in general, the value to stay away from rising waters, since they can be dangerous. Ktvu also spoke with the city of morgan hill he spokesperson who said that the creek has shown some signs of receding, but are still asking residents to be on alert for potential flooding. If if you plan to fly today, check ahead on your flight. At spo yesterday, there were some cancellations because of the weather. We just checked with them, and they say its too airline to know if there are any delays this morning. Oakland International Airport said there are no delays so far. Were still waiting to hear back from san jose minetta airport. We have an june date from pg e about the number of storage related power out ans around the area. They say just over 7,000 customers have no power. Moist are in the north pay, where more than 2900 customers are in the dark. On the peninsula, its more than 2,000. In the south bay, its more than 1900 customers. The east bay and San Francisco both have asmall amount of outages. Pg e said there is no estimate on when that power will be restored. Its making a mess of the area here in gilroy, and its rare that we have to tell you about stuff like this, but of course a lot of that water has not receded yet, and theres a lot of closed traffic. Highway 25 near 156, also a closure. So please give yourself plenty of extra time if youre drive income the area. We also want to let you know that as you drive into san jose, northbound 101, the connector ramp to 880, that is shut down because of a chp officerinvolved shooting that happened overnight. That ramp is closed. Its not causing a huge balm right now, but later in the morning, as we start getting more activity here, you never know, it just might. An iconic giant sequoia tree in the big tree state park toppled down over the weekend during the big storm that was known as the Pioneer Cabin tree. Youve seen it. It has stood for centuries with that tunnel cut into its base for tourists to walk through. The Big Trees Association posted before and after photos on twitter. Well, back here the bay area, the Santa Clara Government Center is expected to reopen today for business. The center lost power on thursday. Its been closed for repairs every sentence. The 1300 employees who work in the building were turned away, along with residents, who were encouraged to go online for their services. But, again, the center is due to resume its normal operations this morning. The man accused of fridays deadly shooting at the Fort Lauderdale airport has his First Court Appearance today, and will there is no Surveillance Video tow show, as well, it shows the moment 4th think shooter took out his gun and started firing at people in baggage claim. Were staying on top of this storm, which in some cases did turn deadly, especially in the east pay, where police say weather likely played a role in he a crash that killed a taxi driver. This was on do little drive. A taxi driver lost control of the vehicle, and the 57year old driver was the only person in the taxi. Lets talk about our weather right now. The weather is very important again on this monday morning. We get a little break, but still some in the mix here. Were not completely done, and another system is on its way for later tonight and tuesday, more rain and wind. A man system has moved to the south, but theres so much moisture scream across. I wouldnt look for too many breaks. Expect the breeze to turn more summerly later on, especially out of the santa clara valley. Some light rain in the mix, and that rain will pick up by own, and next system looks to be another one to three, maybe isolated areas of four inches, and it looks like by the end of the week. Where do company want to start with . Well, we do want to start with a lot of slow traffic here, steve, but we have traffic that is going to be busy, almost all over the place, and were going to start with solano county, as we normally do. Traffic is going to be busy on 80 westbound, as you tribe from vacaville to fairfield, its going to be slow, as you drive through some of these areas already, and 37 is beginning to back up on the way over to marin county. We also have track that will be busy as you drive through the area with no major issues. Die want to mention halt we have some other problems, especially in pacifica, as we move the maps, highway 1 northbound is slow because of a rock and mudslide, just before the Pacifica Police station there. Traffic is closed in both directions. Now, they want to start getting it clearing up so they can do some oneway traffic control, and, of course, people are coming to a dead stop, and coming having to go and turn around, go the other way and get down to half moon by a to get past the problem. If youre at sharp park or north, youre going to be okay, because you can get out heading that way. This is a big problem for the Pacific Community commute this morning. Lanes have just been opened in gilroy. The water has finally receded here, and the track is going to be getting beter in the area. Santa cruz mountains still closed here because of some lines that are down. Theyre not actually power lines. Theyre telephone cables, and theyre waiting for someone from at t. These arent just little strings. These are main telephone cable asks cutting them would is is a is veerly impact people in the area, so theyre waiting for that to be taken care of. Meanwhile, a closure on highway 17. Lets go to the mcarthur maze now. The traffic coming on to eastbound 80 is very slow because of a car that hit the wall there. Its an injury crash. 580 is backed up all the way out to the grand lake area because of this problem. Its a big problem here, and as kevin moves it to the left, you can see all of that slow traffic, people might think that theyre waiting for the bay bridge, but it is going to be slow as you drive through the area. Lets go to the bay bridge now. You can see traffic is backed up all the way out to the mcarthur maze. So we do have a big backup out there already at 5 33, lets go back to the desk. Reporter we are here in santa clara right now san rafael. The north bay really got pounded by that storm yesterday. We were up in st. He lee in a yesterday eventually this swamped the load bridge. People trying to make their way around petaluma yesterday were left soaked. I fell and got soaked up to my arms, too, because it was flowing pretty fastly. Reporter we are getting report offers tree down on power lines. Were going to check that out, as well. The grind just soaked right now, so the latest breeze sometimes is enough to knock them town, and they can fall on to houses and cars, into power lines, or those phone lines we were hearing about 0 earlier. Still a lot of problems around the bay area as a result of this weekends storms. In marin county, we have pictures hefrom justin, showing san anselmo creek. They fear a repeat of 2005 flood. Many have sanders bags at the ready to protect their homes and businesses. People in Pleasant Hill he are doing everything they can to keep rising water out of their homes. A number of neighborhoods there had significant water issues there. People there did their very best to make their way to those water logged streets. Time is now 5 35. High winds hock down trees all over the bay area. In nevada, one of several trees that blew down yesterday fell on top of a parked pickup truck there on third street. No one it was in the truck. No one was hurt. But it also pulled down two or three power poles and knocked identity power to more than 2,000 people, and not far from there, a second tree fell. It knocked out power to a thousand more customers. If San Francisco, some big tree limbs fell on several parked carses along bryant and 7th streets. It was one of many calls for San Francisco firefighters during the storm yesterday. No one was hurt, but it did affect traffic in the area, as you can imagine. And it was a close call for two families in San Franciscos Crocker Amazon neighborhood. A big tree crashed down on their homes. This is from the San Francisco fire department, this photo. No one was hurt, about but a family of five and a family of two have been displaced. And in San Franciscos golden gate park, a man had to be rescued after a tree fell and pinned him beneath it. Several buy standers called 911. The firefighter responded and used a large metal bar to help lift that tree off the man. He was taken to the hospital, with what appeared to be only minor injuries. People who live in the Santa Cruz Mountains are closely watching this weather, as well. The ground there is saturated, and people keeping a close eye on the san lorenzo river. One woman who live nears river had to move her be rv to higher ground. Its the days and day offers rain that make it scary. If it stops, were fine, we can handle that. Reporter but you dont want to take a chance . Would you . laughing no. Some trees standing on saturated soil fell on to utility lines yesterday that knocked out pg e service to more than a dozen customers. The Truckee River in reno rose dangerously high yesterday. Some four dozen homes were evacuated as a result. The storm also shut down roads in the reno sparks area. Take a look at this video from ows a backhoe catching bebe in the Truckee River overnight. The river is approaching it highest level in more than a decade, and is expected to rise over more today. That have least 10 homes in are the caramel valley were flooded after a levee breached overnight. The river overflowed at 11 00 last night, and then a levee broke in the hondo area. Cal fires Swift Water Rescue Team was called in to help evacuate people, but most residents decided to stay in their homes. The waters are now receding, and a Flash Flood Warning if the area has expired. The deputies out there monitoring the condition. No word yet on the extent of the damage to the homes. Well, some Good Samaritans help rescue girl trapped inned a car that went into a river in placer county. It happened on highway 49 yesterday morning. Placer county sheriffs deputy found a car upside down there in the creek. The mother, who was driving the car, was able to get out. But her 12yearold daughter was trapped in the back seat of that car. Deputies and people who stopped to help eventually found the girl, and they were able to pull her out. We dont know her condition. This was the 9th year for that event in d. C. The no pants subway ride started 15 years ago in new york city, and then spread to other cities, including right here the bay area. Santa cruz county courts facing a major traffic ticket backlog. Budget cult backs have prompted Court Officials to assign just one fulltime clerk to enter the data. That clerk is said to be about 12,000 tickets behind. Court Officials Say theyre taking steps to address the problem. Among other thing, theyre hiring two new clerks who are expected to begin help manage out sometime next month. Time is 35 41. A ban down gunned down on a b. A. R. T. Train a year ago, and that prompted a promise of more surveillance cameras. Coming up, why b. A. R. T. Has he not been able to deliver on that promise yet. We have more closures because of the storm. Might be tough to bit around as some of those roads are closed because of the weather. This is 101 in San Francisco northbound, doesnt look bad approaching the 80 split. Well the you more about whats happening on some of these closed routes. There is still . Rain in the forecast right now, certainly right off of santa cruz. Well take a closer look at that and see whats in store for things next system. Alex savage, theyre there at the scene. Tell us more about the investigation and how traffic is affected out there. Reporter yeah, dave, good morning to you. Certainly traffic slow in this area. We just got to the scene here. You can see a bit of a backup getting towards this area. The headlights youre looking at are cars coming northbound on 101. You can see the connector ra to 880 is closed entirely because of this investigation into a shooting by at least one chp officer this morning, and there is the potential, we understand, that this connector ramp could be shut did down into the heart of the morning commute. You can see an ongoing and very active investigation here. This happen shoot shooting happened just before this shooting happened just before midnight. This apparently all began when a chp officer put out some sort of a call for help, a distress call, if you will, and then shortly after that, at least one chp officer opened fire on someone. We know at least one person was taken to the hospital after that shooting. We do not know that persons condition. The San Jose Police department is in charge of this investigation, and the chp is not offering many details on exactly what happened here. There was an incident that took place in the city of san jose that resulted in an officerinvolved shooting. Currently the off ramp is closed wait hard closure for an unknown time at this point, as the investigation is ongoing. And this morning, you could see san jose officers using flashlights to search for potential evidence amongst the freeway and the sides of the freeway. We are working to try to get some more information from the San Jose Police department about this investigation, what prompted this shooting by at least one chp officer. Again, this shooting by the chp this morning resulted in one person being take continue to the hospital, trying to get more information on their condition. Lets talk more about the traffic. A lot of slow traffic out there. A lot of people back to work, starting off with the tracy commute. A lot of people are still on the road here on 580 coming in from the alta month pass. The road is closed because of debris and mud. A lot of people do like to use miles canyon road. For some people, its the only way to get around, but for people who like to cut through there, this morning that is not an option. Northbound highway 1 is shut down. You have town around and go down to highway 92 this morning. Thats going to be tough, because 92 also has some slow traffic because of a tree downed just east of half moon by a. So it is tough getting out of pacifica this morning. Lets move along and take a look at some of the other commutes. Alex just mentioned that closure on northbound 101. The rest of the south bay is doing okay. You can use an alternate route to get around that problem there. If you are driving to the Santa Cruz Mountains, youll see that traffic is going to be okay. They have reopened some of the lanes here, but it will still be a touch drive on a lot of these commutes. Give yourself a lot of extra time. Lets go to the macarthur maze. Westbound traffic is okay. Looks like they have cleared up an accident on that ramp from westbound 580 to east 80. Now the traffic has recovered, and traffic looking okay. When you get to the bay bridge, that backup is out to the macarthur maze. Today, again, as we mentioned, a lot of people are back to school after the winter break. 5 48. Lets bring steve in in. A pretty good cell moving in around highway 9 and highway 17. I think i saw Scotts Valley with a lot of red there. That might have something to do with it. Yeah, and when its raining hard, people slow down, adam you should. That means people are going to be delayed this morning on that commute. Sal, thank you, sir. Speaking of the Santa Cruz Mountains, one of the leaders of the pack was our observer, michael. Storm totals, 7. 75. Currently the calm after northwest. But theres more on the way. In fact, a cell is moving in right now. Ill get to that in a second some of the rain totals, take your pick. Pick. Some of the north bay numbers came in very impressive for the weekend. But i think honestly it could have been worse, to be honest with you, i just think we got we really did kind of dodge this Atmospheric River a little bit. I know there were some large amounts, but could have been a lot worse. There is the cell moving in right now. Santa cruz, highway 9 and 17. I think thats translating to is some of that slowdown in that track. But still some brief heavy rain. Could be a little nail there, as well. Lifers, out to tracy, things are picking up a little bit.
