Investigators in gilroy are looking for answers this morning about human remains that were found causing new speculation about local missing persons cases. We were told by one of them that this is Water District property. I asked, you know, is this are there any hiking trails and they just didnt know. Sheriffs deputies were able to confirm that the remains were found at 4 00 yesterday afternoon at the intersection of santa teresa boulevard and valley road. We expect investigators to be back out and collect more evidence. Authorities were not able to tell us if the remains belong to a male or female or how long theyve been out there. Theyll be looking into missing persons cases. The family of vidal zapeta came to the scene looking for answers. His car was found on highway 33 and we got a call that he was spotted around pacheco pass. And so when we were called and said that there was a body found, we came out. But they havent given us any information at all so weve been out here waiting. Reporter the discover is causing some in the community to wopped for the remains belong to sierra lamar, the teenager who disappeared in 2012. Her body was never found but the suspect was charged. The mercury news reached out after the remains were found. But the family says they have not been contacted by authorities. And the coroner has not yet been contacted. Police have a person of interest in this case and this may have started after a disagreement between two peek. Parking at the bart station for events might not save you money in the near future. The bart board of directors will consider a plan to raise the parking fee for days when there are big events. The coliseum station charges 3 between 4 a. M. And 3 p. M. Monday through friday. And parking is free outside of those hours. Bart is considering charges up to 30 depending on the event. The coliseum is only 10,000 Parking Spaces and it can attract as many as 64,000 people for big events. Charging more could generate as much as 150,000 in extra revenue. More than 27,000 morning commuters use mass transit to travel across the bay. Bart is being asked to build another transbay tube before it reaches the maximum capacity. Spur says if a second tube connecting San Francisco to the east bay is not built, bart may exceed capacity by the year 2024. A second transbay tube would help and bart could handle a maximum of 51,000 daily morning riders. If a new tube is approved the planning and construction may take at least 10 years. The National Weather service issued a High Surf Advisory starting at noon. The waves could reach 13 feet. A really important reminder stay back from the edge of the surf. There can be long lulls and that can make you think its safe to get close to the water. And you could be pulled out to sea. High waves are expected through saturday. The high surf is what the elite competitors invited to the titans of mavericks competition. Part of the money is intended for a series of 15 implosions similar to this one in november to destroy the underwater piers of the old bridge. And thats good news for the east bay commute. The road sensors are not showing a lot of stop and go traffic. That will probably change. But right now youre good. 5 31 and lets go back to the desk. Investigators are working to identify Human Remains Found on the outskirts of gilroy. The remains were discovered yesterday afternoon at santa teresa boulevard and Castro Valley road. The Sheriffs Office has not disclosed whether the remains are male or female. Janine de la vega is on the scene now. And shell have more information on this developing story coming up at 6 00. It was a noisy and long meeting at San Francisco city hall. The Police Commission was listening to debate over whether officers should carry tasers. Allie rasmus joins us from the newsroom with more on what the commissioners are saying. They expect to hear a lot more discussion on the topic. The president of the San Francisco Police Commission started the meeting saying this was a starting point for a conversation about whether San Francisco police should have access to tasers. And the debate did get heated with dozens voices their support and opposition. Slightly different proposals were presented. The chief wants 5 of the force to have tasers including s. W. A. T. And specialist officers. And the police union wants all officers to have tasers. People who spoke out against the idea said tasers are not a panacea for avoiding deadly conflicts between police and the members of the public. These weapons must be used in close range. The weapons have probed that enter the human body that have to be removed by medical personnel. Reporter if officers had access to tasers, they believe the Police Shooting of mario woods may have been avoided. The San Francisco police are being investigated and theyll have to review and give recommendations. And there will be two more meetings before they vote on a possible change in policy. Time is 5 33. Deliberations are expected to start in san jose today in the rape trial of a former San Jose Police officer. Jeffrey graves is accused of the rape of a woman while on duty. It allegedly happened in september 2013 in a San Jose Hotel room. He testified it was consensual sex and pled not guilty. Graves who was fired in september and could be sentenced to life in prison. A former San Francisco political consult accused of making a bomb is expected to change his plea today. Ryan chamberlain was arrested in june of 2014. He was charged with possessing an unregistered destructive device, biological toxins, and a chemical weapon. His trial was supposed to start next week but the prosecution and the defense told a judge yesterday they are preparing a plea agreement. We have an update for the you now to a story we first told you about yesterday. A treatment clinic for sex offenders will not move to its proposed location in San Francisco after all. Sharper future planned to move from Market Street to the Duboce Triangle neighborhood. A heated meeting among Community Groups who argued the location was too close to schools and child care centers. Two chp officers are being hailed today after talking a woman out of jumping off the bay bridge. Officers dustins are and his partner arrived on the scene and went out onto the concrete ledge nearly 200 feet above the bay and started talking with her. And they love their jobs and are happy there was no loss of life. A berkeley man was armed with a gun and driving out of control and ramming cars. Police caught up with him at mcgee and virginia in berkeley. A pregnant driver was hurt along the way and taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. The man deliberately crashed into vehicles. He swiped me and the car in front of me. He would look at the driver and intentionally drive his vehicle into that persons car. Additionally, he would point a firearm at them. Reporter police have not yet found the suspects gun. They say he may have tossed it somewhere between alone park and the North Berkeley bart station. A woman whose car crashed into a gym in livermore killing one person and injuring six others will not face criminal charges, but there may be financial consequences. The car jumped a curb and plowed into the gym. A lawsuit has been filed against the driver and the health club. The driver is accused of recklessness and negligence. And health club employees had witnessed the driver come close to crashing before. In berkeley, a Building Inspection Program found that 400 buildings need repairs. The inspections are in the wake of the deadly balcony collapse last year where six people died and seven others were badly hurt. A city analysis found the balcony had severe dry rot. The repeat round of inspections focused on balconies, decks, and stairways that may be exposed to weather and the elements. Building owners have 60 days to apply for permits to make the repairs. Uc berkeley could cut jobs and programs because of a series budget deficit. The university is facing a 150 million deficit. Thats about 6 of the operating budget. The University Says its due to decreases in state funding and mandated freezes on tuition. Now the University Says it will look at possibly eliminating jobs and consolidating academic programs and eliminating courses. What we have is a structural deficit. Its manageable but not sustainable. We dont have a crisis. We are not looking at cutting sports teams. But we are looking at the chance to increase revenue. The University Says its undergoing a massive financial review and that cuts could begin occurring as soon as this summer. Its 5 44 and fire crews in emeryville say no one was hurt in a two alarm fire at a commercial building. Firefighters from oakland fought the fire starting at 10 15 last night. And it took 20 minutes to get it under control. The building is home to a steel forging and machining company. We are learning more about a man swept out to sea by strong waves in pacifica. His wife is sharing photos and memories of her husband. She did not feel Strong Enough to talk on camera. But she say her husband was the greatest man shed ever known. They had been a couple for 20 years. On tuesday they were picnicking near the pacifica pier and a sneaker wave pulled her out in the water. After she was rescued she found that her husband drowned trying to save her. Friends have been leaving flowers for couple. You cant take away his wifes grief but putting flowers, but i want to make something good of bad that happened. Friends say that the couple didnt have any children. They loved to travel and larry has just beaten cancer and retired last year. He is being remembered as a man of integrity, something he demonstrated up until the end. If i dont say much, thats fine with them. When theres something unusual you see things change. Right now it looks good on the san mateo bridge and the dumbarton bridge. And ive been looking for slow traffic on my computer assisted road sensor maps. And you see green and that means the speed is at or near the posted speed limit. And im manually moving the map with my mouse. Once we start getting into the 6 00 hour that will change. You have a little bit of opportunity in the south bay. Were off to a decent start.
