We got off to a very busy start this morning. Well tell you about a situation that unfolded and has now been resolved. All lanes are back open on interstate 80 in berkeley here. This was in the eastbound direction after a crash caused a huge backup. It happened near the University Avenue exit. It was just after 30 00 this morning. The chp says this crash involved five cars, but thankfully, no nobody was hurt here. The cause of the crash is still being investigated. And again, the crash has been cleared. It was just cleared a short time ago. And with that being said, i want o to take you to the maps and show you that area of burke lee, emoryville, oakland there. You can see all clear. Eastbound 80 going drive ago way from the maze and through the burke lee area. So no residual lingering effects from this accident. Now well take the maps and slide them down toward the south bay. It was sent to ktvu. Those flames were knocked down about 3 00 this morning. And no one was hurt in this. And fire crews are mopping things up right now. Meantime, two people were attacked at an East San Jose Fast Food Restaurant last night. K the ktvu fox 2. You are in the south bay and you say the Police Investigation continues right now. It does. The last information we heard from police is that the suspect hearsay note been caught yet. This all happened caught yet. This all happened in the carls jr. Restaurant in the evergroan area of san zose. Police left the scene and are now working on figuring out what happened and who is responsible. Officers were called yesterday around 6 00 to an area near this charles jr. After reports that two people were stabbed. The male victim reportedly ran toward a gas station and the female victim ran toward a Grocery Store. Both suffering from one stab wound each. They were rushed to the hospital and are now in critical condition. Police spent hours collecting evidence and talking to witnesses. Their investigation shows that the victims were attacked by a group of male suspect who is jumped into a car and left the scene. Police are looking into the possibility that this may be ganghe lated. We still dont know if the victims actually knew the suspects. Were going to work to get more information u. Janine de la vega in san jose. A grandmother from fairfield has been arrested accused of drowning her fouryearold grandson in a bathtub. Fiftyoneyearold dawn rains hughs is being held without bail on murder charges. Police believe she intentionally drowned her grandson yesterday morning. The fouryearold was being deared for by his grandmother at the time. She was also taking care of two little girls, ages one and six who were also her grandchildren. They were not hurt. There is no word from investigators about a possible motive. They want to find two men who violently attacked a man on a muny bus. Take a look at the Surveillance Video released by police showing two men in their 20s repeatedly attacking a man on that muny bus. Now, the shorter of the two suspects is wearing a blue baseball cap got on and off the bus several times coming back to attack the victim. And the doors were never closed. Police say it started with an argument when the victim suspected those two men were trying to rob other passengers. We would like to make an arrest, and identify who these two criminals are because if they did it to this one male, theyre going to do it again. Now, take another look at the two suspects here. The victim, who was punched in the head was treated and released artesian francisco general hospital. Now, if captures, these two suspects face charges of felony assault and battery. San Francisco Police are searching for two men suspected of robbing three tourists from france on twin peaks. Police say the tourists were taking photos monday morning near twin peaks boulevard. They were robbed of their passports, their cameras and their money. Police say one of the victims, an 81yearold man was knowledged to the ground, and he passed out during the attack. If you have any information, call San Francisco police. Well, the raders dont seem impressed with the city of oaklands efforts to keep the team in the city. Today is the nfl deadline for the city of oakland to present a Financial Plan for building a new stadium. A fivepage letter was sent by oakland to the nfl detailing why they think the raders should stay in oakland and not move to the los angeles area. That letter does not include a Financial Plan with the oakland mayor. She anticipates an ongoing dialogue in the nfl about that. Its like going back to an old girlfriend. You cant go back. You have to stay where you are right now. We have been clear about what our constraints are. We are not willing to do a direct sub city of stadium construction with public dollars. Theres other species and she wont be bothered so its a great spot for her and her new baby. Now, officials a Marine Mammal center say elephant seals tend to give birth this time of the year in december or january. By the way, they named the seal after the creek she was swimming in. Sea world has filed a lawsuit against californias Coastal Commission over a ruling that bans the company from breeding captive killer whales apt its san diego park. Sea world says the state agency was outside its authority in issuing the ruling because the whales are not part of the coastal or marine environment. The commission has not commented on the lawsuit. A man and a woman are stabbed and critically injured at a Fast Food Restaurant. And it happened at the carls jr. About 6 00 last night. When the police got there, and both victims have one stab bound. They were attacked by several men who got away in a car. A brutal attack at a south bay jail. It is leading to new security measures. The attack happened beside a dorm unit at elmwood jail. The deputy says he saw an inmate hiding homemade alcohol when the inmate dropped it, the guard knelt down to pick it up. That is when Authorities Say a group of gang members jumped limb. Right now, hes still seeing specialists. But probably both shoulders, maybe hip injuries. They are still evaluating head injuries. Now, that guard is a seven year veteran on the job. Hes a med hes on medical leave now. After the attack, the sheriff added more staffing at the jail and limitling the number of inmaims who are out of these cells at a time. Correctional officers say they cornify stated nine gallons of homemade alcohol and a seven inch shank which the sheriff calls a homemade knife. Police say their deadly confrontation confrontation. And 31yearold called 1 from a residential treatment. That night saying someone in the facility wanted to hurt another person. When officers arrived, police say he was outside waiving a nineinch knife erratically. Authorities say he lunged at police and one officer shot him with a taser to. Other officers fired their guns. The suspect was so close to the three officers in the closest officer actually had to sidestep the suspects falling body. Start to finish, the entire incident when the suspect had contact with our officers transpired in 19 seconds. Reporter police have not said how many times he was shot. Nine bullet casings were recovered at the scene. Police captured on dash cam video from more than one angle. That footage has been turned over to the district attorneys office. Shes behind bars and facing murder charges for allegedly drowning her grandson. Investigators say just before 11 00 yesterday morning, First Responders were called out to the 1400 block of jefferson street. Officers found a little boy unconscious and not breathing. He was transported to a local hospital where he died. Now, police say the 51yearold grandmother had custody of the young boy who was placed inside a bathtub and intentionally drowned. Hughs also had a oneyearold and six yearold granddaughter in her care. They were unharmed. Now, as of now, police are not aware of a motive. Hughs is being held without bail at the salano county jail. Now, this is less than two weeks after an 18monthold boy was killed in atria disairforce base by his babysitter. Its in response to public outcry over release of day ash cam video during a Police Officer shot shooting. Seventeenyearold mcdonald 16 times. The officer facing first degree murder charges for that shooting pleaded not guilty in court yesterday. A statement from the Mayors Office says the Police Department will begin to require every officer responding to a call for service to be equipped with a taser.
