Cabdrivers in the south bay are angry about what they call different requirements for taxis and ridesharing companies. Allie rasmus joining us live in san jose where a strike by the cabdrivers is expected to stretch into day to today . Reporter yes. Those tax cabdrivers have warned yesterday that they could make today a citywide strike. Not just here at the airport, they are upset the city council is considering a separate set of rules for lyft and uber drivers , rules they say are much less strict than what they have to follow if they want to pick people up at the airport. Now, cabdrivers went on strike at san jose airport yesterday honking their horns. They drove right past people, waiting outside the airport in the rain for a ride. Other taxi drivers got out of their caps to pick it on the trips. Cabdrivers have your under mandatory fingerprint checks in order to operate out of this airport. Initially the San Jose City council had required lyft and uber drivers to do the same thing but those lyft and uber drivers snapped the airport. None of them signed up for the program and that made san jose airport the only one where travelers essentially couldnt get a ridesharing service. Thats when the city council is considering adapting the rules just for the ridesharing drivers. They are recommending one of the options as random monthly audits and fingerprint checks for just 1 of those rideshare drivers. Cabdrivers say it is fundamentally unfair to have two separate sets of rules. City council is set to consider some options at their meeting later today. Depending on the results, they could have extended strike today and make it citywide. Back here at the airport, still pretty early. I imagine not a whole lot of people are taking arriving from their destinations and calling caps to get back home. Most of the people went to the traffic or people go to their flights, so we have seen a couple taxi cabs dropping people off to catch their flights, but if you look at that median over there over my shoulder, you dont see taxi cabs lined up. That could be just because it is pretty early. We dont know. Taxi drivers have warned that today they could extend the strike and make it citywide, waiting to find out if that is in fact what happened here. Back to you guys. A really interesting debate. The wall is filled with more than 1 million pieces of used gum. Over the years its become iconic for residents and visitors. Now 20 years later the gum wall has to be cleaned off because sugar from the gum is eroding the bricks. The owners of the building tried to stop the gum wall from going but people keep adding to it. The true story is that we had a lineup of audience members up the alley, lining up around the block. Out of boredom while they were waiting, they would stick gum on the wall with a penny in it. It was to put pennies on the what was the original purpose. Work crews are using an Industrial Machine to take off all that gum.
