Aviation experts are speculating the tail broke off from the plane before it crashed indicating the tail which was repaired in 2001 was not properly fixed back them. Some of the most watched elections in the bay area last night work the housing referenda in south in semper cisco. Airbnb spent millions of dollars on a campaign against proposition f. Ktvu fox 2s alex savidge joining us live in San Francisco now. Tell us what the election result means to the future of San Francisco housing. Reporter good morning. Opposition f was one of the more contentious measures on the ballot. It went down in defeat as voters in San Francisco made it clear they did not want to curb shortterm rentals, even with housing scarce here in San Francisco. Prop f was seen by many as an antiairbnb initiative. It was rejected by 55 of voters on election day. That measure would have limited home shares to just 75 nights a week. Backers of measure f say the growth of shortterm rentals is putting the squeeze on those who are already struggling to afford the city. San franciscobased airbnb spent more than 8 million to defeat the measure. Opponents are calling this a victory for homeowners who they say really rely on all that extra rental income to make ends meet. It was a measure that did not do what it said it was going to do. Prop f did nothing to address the housing crisis. If it had passed, housing prices would not go down. It has been really grassroots, it has been going door to door. Explaining a lot. Its something we really believe in, that it is a fair regulation. Reporter San Francisco voters also rejected another hotly debated housing initiative, proposition i, which would have frozen luxury Housing Construction in the citys Mission District but 57 of people voted no on prop by. It would have placed an 18 month moratorium on any new market rate apartments and condos in the mission but voters seem to have knowledged the citys lack of Affordable Housing. They passed proposition eight, a bond measure authorizing up to 310 million for Affordable Housing and needed a steep two thirds majority to pass, 73 of voters gave it the green light. By the way, mayor ed lee, a major supporter, is promising that those funds will be used to build roughly 30,000 more Affordable Housing units here in San Francisco, dave. Their attempt to move from oakland to San Francisco cleared a hurdle yesterday. A City Commission unanimously approved an Environmental Impact report about a planned new arena in the mission bay neighborhood. Commission members found that the proposed arena would not violate state environmental laws. Terrific milestone for the project. Unanimous approval of our eir. Essential step in our dream of bringing the warriors back to San Francisco. That whole area set up in a walkable urban area that is promoting biotech uses and the ucsf hospital research, et cetera. So its set up for a very different kind of use that is going to be compromised by this project. A group called the Mission Bay Alliance believes that arena should not be filled built in that area. Other critics worry the arena will interrupt traffic to and from the new Ucsf Medical Center at mission bay. Members of the warriors gave five military families a special treat ahead of the thanksgiving holiday. They took the families on a shopping spree at lucky supermarket in alameda. Warriors players such as Klay Thompson and assistant coaches were there as well. The warriors say this is a way for the organization to thank these personnel for their service. What we do is great, entertainment, but it doesnt compare to the magnitude of what they sacrifice. So its really important to give back and show them how much they are appreciated. The shopping spree is part of the teams season of giving initiative. This is the fourth year the warriors have teamed up with lucky supermarkets. What a treat for the family to hang out with the warriors. Jason thompson as well. Thats right. Still ahead, some phony street xanax, still a deadly problem in the bay area. This time of year usually busy along Fishermans Wharf because the crab boats are preparing for the start of the season. Right now, they are not sure if there will be any crab to bring back in time for thanksgiving, which a lot of people like to include. This is a big deal. Allie rasmus is at Fishermans Wharf now. Theres a warning label, a safety label thats putting everything on hold at least for now. Reporter thats right. They are preparing for the start of the commercial crab season which is set to begin on november 15. You can see the crab pots are laid out here, there are hundreds of them out here, there are dozens of companies that rely on crab fishing as part of their business but state Health Officials issued an urgent warning not to eat dungeness or rock crab caught along the california coast from Santa Barbara to the oregon border. High levels of something called domoic acid in the crab. Thats a toxin that comes from algae blooms in the ocean. If eaten, domoic acid can cause headaches, cramps, and in serious cases can result in memory loss, seizures and even death. The recreational crab season was supposed to start this saturday. The commercial crab season, november 15. This morning we had a chance to talk to some of the people who work out here. One supervisor told us even though his company specializes in catching salmon, not crab, he says a bad crab season is bad news for everyone in the seafood industry. People buy crab also buy our progress. So for us, good season means a Better Business for us. Reporter the state will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow morning to decide if and when crab season will start. They will continue to test the crab to make sure to see if high levels of toxins are still in the crabs. But this could definitely have a Financial Impact on the restaurants and markets and crab fisherman who rely on the crab season for their livelihood, not to mention the fact if the crab season doesnt happen, it could be very disappointing for a lot of people in the bay area used to having crab as an appetizer or somewhere on their thanksgiving table. I know its a tradition a lot of people abide by. Back to you guys. Yeah. Big business as well. Yeah. Well follow this. Thank you, alley. Its not on the thanksgiving table for me, but after youve had a couple days of turkey you want to note crab sounds good. Right . It sure does. A little bit of drawn butter and sour dough bread. Im smacking my lips. Lets move on. Right now, were looking at the bay bridge. Right now, traffic is going to be a little bit slow. We had a car with a flat tire on that span. It was out there for a bit. No one was hurt, but it did cause a traffic jam. Bridge crews got the car out of the way, maybe changed a tire. They did that for me one time a long time ago. The traffic is recovering after one lane was taken away. Again, its gone now. Going to take a little bit for it to be to recover. The metering lights are going to slow down a bit so we have a 25 minute delay. It should even out after a bit, but thats whats happening. Lets go to another thing, highway 4 westbound coming up to the willow pass grave. Traffic is already slow. And on the nimitz freeway, slow from 84th, southbound 680, mission boulevard south, slow traffic there as well. So it is going to be slow in fremont. 5 47, back to steve. Its a cold one out there. The fact in fact, the breeze is cranking up. 30s, 40s, 50s on your temps. Northwesterly breeze is really picking up especially in higher elevations. Almost 40 miles per hour. Not that bad at the surface but its there. A cold morning but the north wind picks up here, sunny and breezy, 60s for most. Next rain . Late sunday. A little bit of snow in flagstaff, by the way. Las vegas getting rain. Also southern california. North at 10, northwest, north, northwest, northwest, i think you get the idea. Northerly breeze. The water temps because of that northerly breeze, we get the up flow. Bodega bay, 55. San francisco 59. Halfmoon bay at 60. I doubt that holds. Ill predict it will go to 59. Theres too much of a northerly breeze. We will get a little turn of that which is good. We need colder water. That does help. 40s and 50s on the temps. There are a bunch of 30s. Sevastopol, we are yet nevada, mill valley 51, 48 bodega bay. Which is cooler than wednesday. Just because theres a little breeze. Some areas are calm, some get the breeze. 21 in truckee, 38 in ukiah, 38 arcata, 47 in Santa Barbara and also monterey. 21 in truckee, 25 South Lake Tahoe and 31 blue canyon. A few isolated snow showers, just clipped them yesterday. I think most of that is heading south.
