Just approaching the scene, but not too bad because its light. I want to look at northbound 101. You can see the traffic is light here on northbound 101. You can barely see cars going there at all. Lets talk about 280 in san jose. This is northbound 280 on the right. It does look good getting up to highway 17. And at the bay bridge toll plaza, its raining there. It had been raining harder than it was, but still raining. Thats going to be a tough commute on the bridge. At 4 02 lets go to the desk. The santa clara Water District does not expect major flooding along coyote creek again. Azana smith tells us theyre glad theyre preventing floodings in the future. Reporter the Water District says its at 80 below capacity. The spring storms officials says a major flooding event isnt likely and the reservoir is expected to hold the rain off rain. Even if we see inflow into this water shed for it, so it provides flood protection. Backtoback storms caused the Anderson Reservoir to spill. It overflowed low lining neighborhoods and the district says this pipe below the anderson dam wasnt designed for flood. The outlet to this reservoir was built in 1950. It cant release water fast. After it rebuilt, it will be a you can see its a little further out. Its apart of a 400 million project that began in 2012, the district plans to rebuild the dam making the existing outlet pipe larger and the spill bay higher. Both improvements, the district says will reduce flood risk. In the design stage, the project is expected to break ground in four years and in the meantime, the theyre looking at temporarily flood walls. The city of san jose is implementing a new warning system. Youre in panic mode because you had to get out because i was walking in the street to try and save my car and i was walking in knee high aguilars home is red tagged and flooded. Police in brentwood city responded to a case of Domestic Violence at an office park and it ended with the death of an armed man who had been threatening his exwife. Around 2 15, Police Received a frantic call who says her exgirlfriend who had a gun was chasing her. She told police she had a restraining order and when she would not talk to him, the exhusband went to his truck and grabbed a gun and started chasing her in the parking lot. And the dispatcher heard a gun shoot during the 911 call. Police arrived 3 to 4 minutes late and they ordered the man to surrender, but they pointed the gun at them prompting one officer to and the man turned the gun away and shot himself in the face. We were shocked over there in the other building right here when they when we found out there was something going on. Now, we dont know yet if the shots fired by police hit the man. There will be an autopsy. Authorities responded to two separate Domestic Violence complaints made by the exwife against that man this month. A kidnapping suspect is under arrest accused of trying to force an east bay man to withdraw money from his bank. Police received a call from the chase bank a man tell the teller that someone entered his home by posing as a construction worker, beat him and stole his shotgun and took him to the bank and ordered him to withdraw cash from his bank account. The suspect was waiting in a car outside and officers responded and arrested the suspect without incident. One of the victims neighbors talked to us on the condition we do not show her face. The traffic northbound 101, theres an accident at 13th and an accident at scott creek where a car went off a cliff into a residential area, so were checking that out. We see traffic thats going to be slow in some areas. In castro valley, a car went into a fence. A safeway is stuck down into embankment. This is one of those things when you need to give yourself plenty of extra time. I want to mention a crash northbound 101 north of holly street. The rain is moving through, and thats making it tough for people who are driving. If you can put it off for a little bit, you might want to do that. Lets look at the peninsula where 101 looks good. It is 280 in san jose. Northbound its not a bad commute. San mateo bridge looks light heading into the peninsula. Westbound, its raining, but traffic is light. At 4 19. Lets bring steve in. The sheets of rain you were talking about, the heaviest ones that moved to the east and the valley, but theres isolated areas that have to go through this. It should be calmer by this afternoon. But well keep thunderstorm activity through the forecast through the day and isolated air coming in. We had a decent cell coming out of maybe a little in berkeley also out from livermore to the Altamont Pass, thats heavy. You can get isolated cells around dublin over to heyward and fremont as well. Coming down in san jose, good cell went through there. Theyre getting a break, but theres isolated areas of heavy rain. Redwood center, a decent cell. It looks like heading toward new york over the bridges there, and you can see some of that in the santa cruz mountains. One did produce lightning through santa cruz. Until we can get this system to rotate through and theres energy that has to come back and thats going to take a few hours. The morning looks active. To the north, its not as active.
