An organized front not happening for today but still you can see coverage right now focused in the north bay and then in closer as you can see closer to nevado and the north of san rafael. The south bay not to much action with rain showers in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Here is what happens. Still will hold onto occasional showers. Still looking at this break later on tonight and into early tomorrow and then this is the next storm ramping up. That will increase the rainfall for thursday. Here we are today. 10 00 a. M. Clouds, the best chance of rain showers will be up in the north bay. Especially up in sonoma. You will notice a lot of breaks in the action throughout the day for your wednesday afternoon and then we will do a quick preview for tomorrow. This is thursday morning at 7 00. This is the next storm that will move on shore that could cause problems across the bay area for tomorrow. We will have more on that incoming system. Sal has the update on the bay area roadways. Traffic problems on 580 westbound. I want to go right to the maps because there are some large pot holes on 580 near greenville road. Two right lanes are closed. Emergency repairs here and traffic is already very slow. Its only 4 00 in the morning. 4 02 to be exact. Emergency pot hole repair. Now they are saying they may be able to open the lanes but there is a sig alert that was issued about an hour ago for this westbound on 580. Please give yourself extra time. This could be one of those drives on the 580 interchange or 580 near greenville road. We will keep watching that. Other news. Emergency repairs continue to clear out one of the largest mudslides to hit the bay area. Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains all northbound lanes at vine hill road remain closed because of the slide. Only one southbound lane is open at this time. Cal trans is using heavy equipment to stabilize the hillside. Crews plan to bring in a specialized machine to safely access the slide and remove the debris from the top down. This mudslide is the largest on highway 17 this winter. Engineers describe it as if one hundred dump trucks dropped a load of rocks and debris over the road at once. We are dealing with the fact that its still raining. The size of the slide. The terrain. The traffic. The mudslide flipped a pickup truck over the center divide. Fortunately the driver wasnt hurt. The chp is encouraging people heating northbound to take san jose road to summit road and allot another hour. When the side is reopened they may have to deal with a different traffic pattern. A southbound lane will likely be used for northbound traffic. They hope to reopen all lanes in a day or two. Up north in sonoma napa and marin have been battered by recent storms. Highway 37 is closed because of flooding. Lanes in both directions are closed in nevado. Highway 101 and atherton. Storms have shut down this stretch three times this year. This is a live look ata interstate 880 and oakland. Traffic is normal. There is a bit of a break with the storm. At the bay bridge toll plaza its light but the road is still wet. We do have new video this morning of the moment that a mudslide destroyed a home in san rafael during yesterdays storm. Thats going to go. Its going. That video was posted on facebook by firefighters. The homeowners say that the mud behind the home on Mountain View avenue started creeping down a hillside early yesterday morning and then about 8 00 the hillside collapsed. Fortunately the family of four all got out safely. We talked to the home owner looked at the other damage around marin. We heard sounds and we thought a deer was trapped in the yard. Reporter john future soon found that wasnt a deer but dirt and trees falling onto his back deck. In the time he drove his daughter to school the slope kept moving and he returned to find soil pressing against his kitchen window. We ran out through the door in the middle of the rain and watched it over the next 90 minutes slowly roll to what it was. Reporter 90 minutes watching the home his parents built and where he was born collapse. First the deck on the right side blew out. The chimney went. Came down in to the street and all the living room windows popped out. The water has reached capacity and we are starting to see a lot of landslides. Reporter its a critical time. Creeks jumping their banks and the slide danger. Half of marin is on a hillside. Look at how your house set up. Make sure that you are not losing foundation. Reporter the trees along sir Francis Drake didnt flow over. The hill underneath them gave way. Soaked. A lot of water. Nowhere for it to go. Third time in the last two months we have flooded here. This was the worst by far. It went all the way in to the garage and swamped my daughters car. Reporter soaked furniture and carpeting. Many homes on laurel took a beating. At least once the water goes down they will dry out. A quick recovery. Not the case on Mountain View where the hilll side has one house threatened and red tagged in addition to the one in splinters. As deborah said there is at least one home there on Mountain View that is red tagged right next to the home that was destroyed. There is concern that tomorrows rain could make that situation even worse. Wow. Meantime parts of the river in sonoma are above flood stage this morning. Its expected to reach 32 feet at gurnville. When its over 29 feet it floods out there. People are getting used to it. Last month several homes were under flood water for two days forcing people to get around with boats. That time the river was six feet over flood stage. Today its expected to be about four feet over flood stage. Because of the flooding the school nearby will be closed again today. The owner of a art gallery said that sometimes the worst situations bring out the best in people. Warning sirens went off early yesterday signaling that the creek was flooding in downtown michael feldmans daughter said floodwaters may affect his gallery. People were putting sandbags at my door for me when i arrived. Its that kind of community. People were look out for each other. They were sandbagging across the street. Total strangers. The body was found yesterday on san marcos court. She was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police want to talk to a 58 yearold who lived with her and owned the home where she was found dead. Investigators believe there was an altercation before the shooting but they say he is not being called a suspect at this time. Its been a full week since the riot at berkeley and police want to identity the people who started the violence and caused 100,000 in damage. Freeway 101 looks okay from gilroy up into san jose through morgan hill as you drive through. There are no major problems on the gilroy drive. Traffic is moving along okay. Oneway traffic control. Northbound lanes are closed but they are using the southbound lanes to do one way traffic control. This wont be very good for that drive obviously from santa cruz to los gatos. Pam mentioned it, westbound 580 closures for emergency pot hole repair. The pot holes were so big they were causing flat tires. We have a huge back up already on the pass trying to get into livermore because of this problem. Please give yourself extra time. Lets talk about highway 4. Bay point okay so far. Little wet out here as you drive over to the willow pass grade. At the bay bridge toll plaza you can see traffic here is going to be okay. Its light. There is wet weather. At 4 20. Today you can see right now some coverage in the radar and the bulk of the action is focused in the north bay. Santa rosa reporting rainfall. Pushing the maps to the south. Not as much coverage for southern marin and then continuing to move south closer to the Santa Cruz Mountains. Looks like we have some action here in the central portions of the bay right near the bay bridge. Toward downtown san francisco. Extending down toward san leandro. Current numbers, its mild. You can see the numbers right now in the 50s. We are on track to reach the 60s this afternoon. Everybody around 64 to 65 degrees. With all this rainfall the river levels have been jumping up quite rapidly. The river at gurnville is above flood stage. Expected to crest in just a little bit. 6 00 a. M. Today at 34. 4 feet and then coming down later on today. Another rise expected as we head into thursday. Rights now it looks like thats projected to be below flood stage. Its something we will watch into thursday and friday. Here is our next system developing off shore. Rainfall. Big range. A half inch to three inches and we see a big rainfall like that we are concerned with flooding again into thursday. Winds around 50. Yesterday we had problem was the high tide. Tomorrow itll be around ten. Thats at the golden gate bridge. Here we go with the rainfall expectations. A big range. The south bay not as much. About a half inch. Same for the inland valleys. Here you can see for the coastal hill ands the north bay. We could have amounts on either side of two inches of rainfall this will be a big concern for tomorrow. Almost eight months after the nightclub shooting in florida some people are still upset how money from the victims fund is being given out one man said he is being denied money because and he his boyfriend werent inside the club during the shooting. They were in the valet area just outside when the gunman opened fire. Both claim they were traumatized but eligibility standards require people to have been inside during the shooting to receive money. 49 people were killed. More than 50 injuried in that shooting.
