This morning a 12yearold boy recovering at a hospital in oakland after police say he was stabbed for no apparent by a suspected bank robber. The child came with his family from out of state to the bay area for vacation and they have gone to this Wells Fargo Bank in san leandro yesterday morning. Authorities say the boy was sitting in the lobby waiting for a relative to finish up a transaction when the suspects, 32yearold iona hammond, robbed somebody who was making a cash deposit. Hammond was armed with a knife and a pair of scissors. Investigators say with 25 other people in the bank at the time, for some unknown reason this woman stabbed the boy in the back at least three times. The boy screamed for help, he ran over to the relative, it seemed he was bleeding. The bank did have blood on the floor where the boy was stabbed. Two unarmed security guards helped keep the woman at bay until officers arrested her outside the bank. Investigators are looking into reports that hammond has a history of mental illness. The boy underwent surgery at Childrens Hospital and is expected to survive. Two weeks after greg suhr stepped down as San Franciscos police chief, the department is going through more shakeups. The examiner reports three deputy chiefs and with two commanders have been reassigned. While the Department Says these changes are routine, the paper reports that some people view the switches as a troubling indication of continually rotating leadership. According to the examiner, none of the 10 station captains in San Francisco have held their posts for more than three years. The man arrested after fridays standoff in San Franciscos china town is expected to appear in court this afternoon on several felony charges. Now, investigators say Jesse Eckhart by cadeed barricaded himself in an apartment on pacific avenue friday morning. The building was evacuated and after several hours police used a flash bang grenade to get him out. He ran outside and into a nearby hair salon where he was arrested. He faces charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting an officer and burglary. Police have arrested a driver on suspicion of hitting a uc santa cruz student walking near campus sunday afternoon. Investigators took into custody 33yearold Juan Castillo of watsonville. He faces charges of hitandrun and driving without a licenses. Witnesses report seeing a wide sedan which was later identified as this Chevrolet Malibu hitting a pedestrian and driving away. Officers tracked him about a mile from the scene. The 21yearold students injuries are not considered life threatening. San bruno police are asking for the publics help this morning in identifying three people who may have been planning to burglarize a home last month. Police released photos of two of the people standing outside a home on oakmont drive on may 25th. They told the homeowner they were waiting for someone to pick them up. A few minutes later the driver of a white honda did pull up. Police say Surveillance Video shows the three men were dropped off by that same car just before the homeowner talked with them and investigators say that leads police to believe that the men were going to break into that house. Mountain view Police Need Help finding this man who is suspected of using a stolen credit card. He goes by either ricardo or ricky williams. Police say the man is about 58, he has a thin beard and at the time was wearing his hair in a ponytail. Anyone who has information on this man is asked to put in a call to Mountain View police. Today San Francisco supervisor will consider a proposal that would shield low income hiv and aids survives from rent hikes. The bill would close a loophole, a current city law. Right now people who receive federal housing subsidy are protected from rent increases. But aids and hiv survivors who receive the same housing vouchers are excluded. Supervisor scott wiener introduced the measure and says its not clear why the group was excluded in the first place. If approved the protections could go into effect as soon as next month. If the sharks win the series will come back to san jose for game 6 on sunday. A bay area city could be losing its most important piece of firefighting equipment days before 4th of july. Daly city is looking for ways to close a 6 million budget gap. They say taking five engine 95 out of commission would take care of 1 3 of that. The fire station would still have a truck to answer paramedic calls but that cant pump water so its in limited of limited use in fighting fires. The nearest firefighting engine would be 2 miles and several minutes away from responding calls. Imagine a room burning, imagine a fire growing in size essentially doubling every minute. Its certainly a serious concern for us from a safety component as firefighters and for our community where we have primarily housing here. City officials could put a bond mother on the ballot measure on the ballot next year that could raise money that could be used to bring back the fire engine but that wouldnt help in the short term. The city council is scheduled to vote later this month and the fire engine could become unavailable on july 1st. The oakland zoo is now home to seven baby wart hogs. The frenchy gave birth on may 5th and then a little more than a week later was born to second mom alice on may 14th. The zoos resident male simon is the father of both litters. The video captured the silverback gorilla dragging him before the zoo officials shot and killed the gorilla. The shooting caused an outpouring of criticism. Some blaming the boys mother, but prosecutors say they wont seek any charges against her. New this morning a bomb targeting a bus full of Police Officers killed at least 11 people in istanbul, turkey. Seven of the victims were officers, four civilians. The death toll could rise, though, as several people are in critical condition. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack at this point but the can Kurdistan Workers Party has carried out similar attacks recently in turkey. The impact of Tropical Storm colin is now being felt in parts of the east coast. Heavy flooding and strong winds have hit florida. The operation involves nato warships and thousands of military personnel. This exercise spans across the entire baltic sea along with the shorelines of finland, sweden and germany. One important reason for this military drill is that for the first time American Marines are practicing landing skills in finland, which is a nonnato country bordering russia.
