Theyll be going hard. 24 of the worlds best surf ers are expected to compete in the elite contest. Many will be coming from hawaii where the eddie surf competition is taking place today. It will be another mild afternoon. Mostly sunny and a few clouds to the north. And breezy in the Higher Elevations and above normal temps which means 70s for most. Cooler by the waters edge. The traffic is also doing very well. And were off to a nice start on this wednesday, hump day here. You can see traffic is moving along nicely at the bay bridge toll plaza with no major problems. Its light and also looking at interstate 880 if youre driving in both directions well, you couldnt be driving in both directions at the same time, but if youre driving in either direction, it should be a nice time. Right now the freeways are doing well in the santa clara valley. Republican donald trump and democrat Bernie Sanders they were the big winners in the New Hampshire president ial primary. Sanders won by a larger margin than expected, 60 to 38 . And with 35 of the vote, trump had an impressive victory. John saysic had 16 . Cruz, 12 . And bush and rub owe with 11 each. Well have a report on what the results mean going forward. President obama will attend a Democratic Party fundraiser. Hes scheduled to arrive in Mountain View at 7 30 tonight. Hell spend the night in the san jose area and attend a fundraiser for the Democratic National committee at the home of steve wesley a venture capitalist. The president is scheduled to attend another democratic fundraiser tomorrow. And after the bay area appearances, hell travel to southern california. Police are looking for thieves who hit a high end Fashion Store in union square. A group of men and women entered the store. And a worker tried to stop them as they were leaving without paying for merchandise. More than 10,000 worth of merchandise was stolen. In San Jose Police are looking for two men who broke into a Western Union branch on center road. This is Christmas Eve video, just released yesterday. The police smashed through a glass door and stole cash and property. Anyone with information on the men can report an anonymous tip to Silicon Valley crime stoppers. San francisco Public School leaders decided to delay a vote on whether to make condoms available to middle school students. A former church elder and his wife are accused of defrauding from the church and a wealthy donor. A federal grand jury indicted Jonathan Chang and his wife on wire fraud and money laundering. Toxic algae led to swimming bans and a loss of jobs for many people, including lifeguards. Governor jerry brown has declared a disaster for fishermen. This was a pretty easy race to call and it was called shortly after the polls closed last night in New Hampshire. A big win for Bernie Sanders and a big win for donald trump, both of whom were able to tap into a lot of voter anger. Reporter Bernie Sanders and donald trump not only won but did so with larger margins than just about every poll predicted. Sanders even shot hoops as the results came in. The people of New Hampshire have sent a profound message to the political establishment, to the economic establishment, and by the way, to the media establishment. [ cheering ] we are going now to South Carolina. Were going to win in South Carolina. I love you all. Thank you very much. Trump won by nearly 20 points, putting him well ahead of john kasich who came in second. A big bump as he heads to South Carolina even as the path forward is unclear. Im gratified by it. Marco rubio had been on the rise and stumbled after a weak debate performance. Our disappointment is not on you. Its on me. For Hillary Clinton, the loss was expected and the margin was not. Its not whether you get knocked down that matters. Its whether you get back up. Shes better positioned to do better with minority voters there and thats something that Bernie Sanders is keenly aware of. And hes headed to harlem to meet with al sharpton. Traffic is moving along well if youre driving now. Its a pretty decent commute. Some of the roadwork you might be used to be seeing has picked up. Roadwork in livermore has picked up. And in oakland, traffic is moving along nicely. And on the san mateo bridge it looks good. And out to the highrise and 101. And northbound 101 past the 280 interchange, it looks good. And 237 and 101 are also looking good. 4 19 and lets go to steve. How long does that last . That good start . Probably for a little longer and not that way forever. Another warm day and really warm temperatures on monday. We had many records not only here but to the south and to the east. Well show you those. And around the area, if it wasnt for the higher clouds it would have been warmer. San jose, 76. Sfo tied a record high of 71. And Oakland Airport was 70 degrees. And sacramento was 73. Gilroy was 78. And salinas was 71. The higher clouds took the edge off. 40s and 50s on the temp. Walnut creek, alamo, and danville are running warmer today. Lafayette and moraga. Is there a breeze there is in the Higher Elevations. Coast and bay looks like more of an on shore breeze. 42 ukiah. Incline village. 37. And 23, 24 at truckee and south lake tahoe. Higher clouds will continue to filter in. And thats the only thing stopping us along with the robust offshore wind. Mostly sunny today and highs in the 60s and 70s and about the same tomorrow. Theres not much change. Upper 60s to 70s. Its a dry forecast for a while. Mostly sunny, mild to warm. And breezy for a few. And anyway you look at it, these are above normal temps. Warmest temperatures will be towards santa cruz and gilroy. And points south. Sunny, nice, except for the higher clouds. And theres really not a dayto day change here. I will take that. Its good for business. A lot of restaurants will see more people out and about. That is true. On a side note, wonderful tie, my friend. It looks good.
