Lot, but lets start off and take a look at the long commutes that people make out of vacaville and solano county. Traffic looks good from vacaville to fairfield, no major issues. Traffic moving along nicely on the east shore freeway heading to the maccarthur maze, no major issues. At the bay bridge toll plaza, traffic is light so far. It is 4 31 am. Still following developing story from florida, a mass shooting were 50 were killed, 53 were hurt. This is a live news conference. Reporter as we go through the list of Family Members, with a lot of individuals from puerto rico, a wonderful puerto rican community. A young lady, kj morris that he just moved here from hawaii to take care of her mother and grandmother. And these are people that we interact with every day of our lives. Law enforcement has done a wonderful job, the Orlando Police department, sheriff department, fbi, doing a wonderful job in getting the bodies removed from polls pulse. This is a Wonderful Community that we live in, a wonderful state, and we have more than 100 Million People come to visit because it is a wonderful place to live and visit. We will continue to work hard to take care of these families and try to get this Community Back as quickly as we can, and it is time to grieve for each Family Member that has lost a loved one or has someone injured in the hospital. We will turned over to the chief, good morning, i want to provide some more information about the initial response and rescue. We have an offduty officer that was working at the pulse nightclub in full uniform, and he responded to shots fired at 2 00, and did engage in a gun battle with the suspect near one of the entrances. Shortly after that, additional officers responded. Those additional officers of made entry while the suspect was shooting, engaged in another gunbattle with the suspect. They forced him to stop shooting, and to retreat to the bathroom, where we believe he had several hostages. At that time we were able to save and rescue dozens and dozens of people that were injured and nine injured, and get them out of the club. Things kind of stabilize, based on statements made by the suspect on explosives and a possible bomb vest, we secured everything and called on the s. W. A. T. Team. We knew there were approximately 50 people in the opposing bathroom from where the suspect was with the hostages. Based on statements made by the suspect, and based on information we received from the suspect, and it from the hostages and people inside, we believe further loss of life was imminent. I made the decision to convince the rescue operation and do the explosive breach. The explosive breach did not penetrate the wall completely, and weve used our Armored Vehicle to punch a hole in the wall, and there is a hole in the wall about 2 feet off of the ground, about 3 feet wide, and we were able to rescue dozens and dozens of people that came out of that hole. The suspect came out of that hole himself, armed with a handgun and long gun and engaged in a gunbattle with officers, and he was ultimately killed. At that time, at this time i just want to say that the initial responding officers, s. W. A. T. Team and all of the other Law Enforcement acted heroically, courageous, and saved many lives during this operation. We have one officer struck in the helmet above his for head, and the kevlar helmet saved his life. I spoke with him at length last night, and hes doing great. At this time i turned over to our special agent danny clarify if any more victims were shot when it was a hostage situation . Good morning. I will talk briefly about the primary mission for today, the identification of the victims and notification of the families. As you heard from mayor dyer, we have confirmed the identity of 48 of the 49 victims, and one more confirmation of identity is pending. A number of those, as youve heard from the mayor, we have notified the next of kin, and that is the 100 Priority Mission for today. The city of orlando is advertising the names of the victims as we make the notification to the Family Member, and i will explain to you briefly on how that is going. With a team of agents, fbi agents that we are deploying as we identified the victims throughout the state and throughout the nation, to identify the Family Members to let them know that their loved one is deceased. Once that is confirmed, we will post it to the website. I ask that everybody respect the privacy of the family, and we will advertise the names of the victims but only after we confirmed that the next of kin has been notified. That is the primary mission of all of us right now, to notify the Family Members that one of their loved ones is dead. We will advertise those names publicly to the rest of the community. I will turned over to the fbi u. S. Attorney lee bentley. Back as mayor dyer said, yesterday was the most horrific day in the history of orlando. Indeed, the largest mass shooting in the history of the United States, and a terrible tragedy. On behalf of the federal government, i would like to thank our state and local partners, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, there lando police department, the Orange County sheriffs office, and these men and women at these agencies have been working tirelessly the for the last day and a half. On behalf of the government, i want to thank the governor and the other elected officials that have been here tay for their help, their interest in what is going on. We are working closely with the United States Attorneys Office with our partners at the Main Department of justice, National Security division. We are also working with the fbi in with the atf. An amazing amount has been done within the last 24 hours. As it has been explained, almost all of the victims have been identified, and the notification process is ongoing. We have been collecting a great amount of electronic and physical evidence. There is an ongoing criminal investigation, and it is still in the early stages. We do not yet know whether anyone else will be charged in connection with this crime. We have no reason to believe that anyone connected to this crime is placing the public in imminent danger at this time. There is an investigation of other persons, and we are working diligently at this, and we have teams of prosecutors and teams of agents working roundtheclock. Getting search warrants, Getting Court orders, and if anyone else was involved in the crime, they will be prosecuted. I will now turn it over to the atf special agent in charge, regina lombardo. Good morning. I would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation for the extended visit here today. On behalf of the atf we are here to continue our role in we have found on the scene that there were two weapons at the scene. The atf has unique tracing capabilities and we were able to trace the weapons. They were traced to the last known purchaser, the shooter. One of the weapons was also found, third weapon in his vehicle, and were working on tracing that weapon as well. We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims families and the lgbt community. We are working this investigation with the team of the atf analysts, analysts and special agent, and together with the fbi and the state and local partners here today. We have a team of people here that are able to provide what we can to the investigation. I will now turn it over to the fbi, special agent in charge. Good morning, im the special agent in charge of the field office in tampa, and i think yesterday you heard from the assistant special agent in charge ron harper they did a great job. One thing that takes away from these bad events, 9 11, brings the community together, including the Law Enforcement community. We have all worked together from the getgo, and from 2 00 in the morning when this shooting began, everybody rallied together to work this case as one force. With the joint Terrorism Task force, which all of these agencies represent, and we were working the case sidebyside. A lot of this investigation has kind of been disclosed to you. The main thing we have look that in the very beginning is the victims. As you have heard, 49 are deceased, 48 have been identified, 24 families have been notified. We have also brought in witness specialists to work with the families to get them what they need. Resources are available, and other agencies have pulled their resources and brought them down. We have resources from the miami, atlanta, jacksonville field offices, and as well as quantico virginia. The laboratory has sent down a shooting reconstructionist, and as of last night, within 24 hours, all of the victims were removed from the pulse lounge, and we will be processing the shooting reconstruction. Over the night, when processed about 100 leads that were worked on by the agents and Task Force Officers combined. The task force has been up and running since the beginning and will continue to run. All of the agencies will bring in resources to bear and to get the truth to you as quickly as we can. You must realize there is a balancing act. A lot of what we do in an investigation will become classified, and we basically ask your patience and to bear with us. We will disclose what we can, when we can. Recognize that if we cannot, it is not because we dont want to, but there could be prosecutions down the road. As you know, post 9 11, no stone will be left unturned. Every terrorism case an investigation will be work in the same way, worked in the same way, and we will brief you as best we can. Bear with us and trust our judgment. The fbi has been in existence for over 108 years, and we have earned the Peoples Trust by working hard and being straightforward with you. We do not want to violate your trust by giving you bogus information and telling you it was wrong a few hours later. We will keep this as best we can and give you accurate information. It may take some time to get you accurate information. We ask that you bear with us as we move forward in the investigation. I want to commend the First Responders that saved lives by responding as quickly as they did. A number of people were brought out alive, unharmed, many more in the hospital recovering. That healing process, a bonus for this community that it has come together. And that will hopefully stay the course. Reporter why is the number change from 50 to 49 . The shooter was included in that number of 50, 49 victims, but we do not really count that shooter as the victim. And that is how we got to the number 49, 48 of which have been identified. Reporter can you help us clarify one thing. We have you more remarks a few more remarks and we will answer your questions. This has certainly been a trying time for all of us. As a native of orlando, this is certainly touching to our family and dive. I have served in this community with the Orlando Police department, and now the Orange County sheriff, and there has never been a time when ive seen the agencies, federal, state and local levels have come together to work. Throughout the night the agencies have worked with the fbi. We have great partnership, and im certain within just a short period of time all of these victims will be able to be identified, and the families will be reunited with their loved ones, if you will. The effort is ongoing, and we have received a tremendous outpour of support from across the country, our colleagues, Law Enforcement. It is very heartwarming to all of us to where this badge and carry this gun on a daily basis. As i have talked with some of my staff, and some of the staff of the Orlando Police department that responded yesterday to this tragedy, the men and women were certainly touched by this. Many of them solve carnage that they would never see in any other saw carnage that they would never see in any other area. This is not a war zone, this is a civilized society, and seeing something unthinkable, 49 victims and the individual died yesterday, and many of these Law Enforcement officers had to go in and observe that. Now it is about putting our community, our nation, back together. And to ensure that the individuals that had to deal with what they saw yesterday are able to come back to work and do their jobs. That is where i am at this point, working with all of our partners to make sure that we take care of these brave souls that responded. At this time, i believe we will turn it over to the attorney general. Good morning. To update you from last night, we have mobilized 14 of the victims advocates from pensacola to miami and they are all here. They are together and on the ground, working with the fbi, the city of miami, and we now know that only 24 families have been notified. I know that you had this number, but repeat it 407246 4357. If you are friend or distant friend, please do not use that number. That number is for the relatives and loved ones that are attempting to identify these big comes. We are here, prepared to help you, and we have advocates, and we have compensation counselors that can also give you aid with funeral expenses if the victims families are not able to do so for themselves. Today our goal is to work together, this is about unity and bringing the great city of orlando back together, our state, and our country. Thank you again for federal, state and Law Enforcement officers for standing strong. Thank you. Reporter can you clarify when this became a hostage situation . Do you believe that the killer fired any more shots were killed and more victims during that time space . No. Once it stabilized and the suspect barricaded himself in the bathroom, negotiators were talking with them, and there were no shots at that time. There was talk about the bomb best vest, and explosives, and there were comments made about the imminent loss of life, and that is when i made the decision to make the entry at that time. It was 0500 hrs. In the morning. He made his phone call while in the bathroom after the initial victims were shot. Reporter [ question inaudible ] he was in one bathroom with what we believe were 45 hostages, and in the opposing bathroom was 15 to 20 people. We rescued dozens and dozens of people, so we dont know from which bathroom they came at this point, and that is part of the [ question inaudible ]investigation. Reporter not that im aware from inside the club, and another investigation with the fbi, but nothing from inside the club. Reporter how would you characterize the killers demeanor during this entire operation . Based on the calls, he was cool and calm when making his phone calls to us. Reporter [ question inaudible ] absolutely. With a team of crisis negotiators that talked with the suspect, trying to get as much information as possible, focusing on what we could do to help to resolve the situation. Reporter [ question inaudible ] absolutely. I want to say that im surrounded by great team of people, not only the Orlando Police department, but the sheriff as well as the federal partners. The information that i received from my team is that loss of life was imminent. They had to make that decision, a hard decision to make. But i was not alone, and died a team of people that was advising me, and we all knew that it was the right thing to do. We believe that we presented prevented future loss of lives. Reporter there were reports from witnesses that he was laughing and celebrating as he was firing. That he was claiming his allegiance to isis, and what did he really say that you know of . Back there was a allegiance to the islamic state. There was no laughing as far as our negotiations were involved. Reporter when would you release the 911 calls . That is up to the fbi, part of their federal investigation right now. Reporter is there any indication people were struck by friendly fire . This is all part of the investigation. Our s. W. A. T officers open fired, and the backdrop was a concrete wall, and they were being fired upon, but that is part of the investigation. Reporter [ question inaudible ] i have not heard that. Reporter [ question inaudible ] im not sure about the Video Surveillance right now. Reporter [ question inaudible ] this scene had stabilized and it was a barricaded hostage situation at the time. We were negotiating with him, and there was talk about bombs and explosives. When that became the crisis for us was when we knew there would be imminent loss of life, and that imminent thing made us make that decision to go in. Reporter [ question inaudible ] he really was not asking for a whole lot, we were doing most of the asking. Reporter you had people that were injured in the club, and you wanted to get rescue personnel to help them and to save their lives, but you had to make the other decision to wait and possibly prevent more of a loss of life. What was it like to make that decision, knowing that people may lose their lives because they could not get medical attention, and what was that like for you personally, chief . Back it was a hard decision, but the right decision. Our number one priority is to save lives. Knowing that peoples lives were being placed in danger, our officers lives to be placed in danger by the entry, but we train for that. We have the most heroic and courageous s. W. A. T. Team members around, and they did a fabulous job and saved many lives. Reporter was this a Suicide Mission for him . [ question inaudible ] i dont know about the third gun being recovered. Reporter [ inaudible ] we could not determine that based on our conversations that we had with him. Reporter [ inaudible ] the lounge area, bathroom and bar area. Dozens and dozens of people were saved after the initial responding officers made the first entry. We had to get the people out of the dance floor, and out of the bar lounge area. Reporter [ question inaudible ] what made it imminent . There was a timeline given, and we believe there was a month loss of life that we needed to prevent. Reporter [ question inaudible ] there were no reports of shots fired during that time that i am aware of. Thank you very much. One more question. Reporter [ question inaudible ] our mission from the tampa perspective in orlando is to work this case forward and back. Headquarters is taking a look at the other incidents, and they will work those back and forward, and at one point we will meet. We do not have the answers in tampa to your questions, so we will move forward from june 12 forward, and we will learn as much about him as we can. At some point we will be able to answer your questions, but i cannot do that right now. Reporter [ question inaudible ] i dont know enough to say whether i am concerned or not. Thank you all, and that will conclude our special report for today. If you have any information call the fbi if you have any information about the shooter at all.
