This morning we are continuing to follow a developing story in fremont with a man who is accused of shooting two Police Officers. He is holed up inside a home near roberts avenue. The man is suspected of shooting those two Police Officers yesterday. One officer is in Critical Condition, the other is stable. This standoff is happening at a home west of interstate 680. We have a reporter, janine de la vega theres a press conference going on lets listen in. Were going on about 45 minutes ago with our last contact with him. At this point the late will be our friend at this. Were waiting for daylight. We will use robots and other technology to go in there and see whats going on. You were negotiating with him for about 3. 5 hours. Did he give you any sense of why he shot these two officers . No. There was a some communication but were not going to get into those details right now. Our job right now and our focus is the tactical operation. We will turn that over to the Oakland Police department. They will really the Sheriffs Office and Brooklyn PoliceOakland Police will take over the scene. He did have his parents out here. To the help at all . We did try to use his parents to get him out but i dont know how that went. Was a robbery . This appears to be a car stop that went wrong. It led to two officers being shot. You tell is the status of whats happening right now with the suspect . We know the house is on fire and hes believed to be inside right now. We believe he is inside. We havent talked to him and close to 45 minutes or more. But that doesnt mean hes not still in there. Hes already shown us he is willing to stay for the long haul on this. We put a lot of tear gas in there. Weve had numerous negotiations with him. He told us he is willing to go the long haul. And thats what were doing. Theres no rush for us to go in there to put anyone else in jeopardy. We are willing to wait and make this come to a safe conclusion. Is he making any demands . No. There are conversations back and forth. Demands. No. Its not like hes asking for anything extraordinary. And people in the area are told to stay in the house . Yes. The community should note that we are confined to this location now. The greater area is safe for them to go about their business. We are focused in on this one house on this one block in the city. We want people to know that we are trying to restore order and get this part of fremont back. Do we know whos house it is . Is there anyone else in that house . This was a house that was a house of opportunity for him to hide from police. The people that own this house, as far as we know, have nothing to do with this man. Did they ever make contact with him . They werent home . They never made contact with him. Do give an update on the officers condition . Im not at liberty to do that. Please contact fremont. This is unincorporated Alameda County where the houses . You just heard from Sergeant Ray Kelly with the Alameda CountySheriffs Office. As you heard this is still a very active situation. Lots of police cars and multiple agencies are here. The house with the suspect is in is currently on fire. He is believed to be inside. The last contacted him about 45 minutes ago. We are going to be here, updating you as soon as we get more information. What we know is that washington is blocked off between fremont to driscoll. Fremont boulevard is blocked off between washington and adams. Everyone in this surrounding area is being told to shelter in place. We have not gotten an update on whether there was talk about opening up the school this morning. We will let you know when we hear of that. We will continue to probe the spokesperson here as soon as we get more information. We will give that to you. Ginning, thank you. A very situation scary situation. That was a house of opportunity. A random house that is now on fire. If you are unfamiliar with the situation. The started yesterday. Officers said it sounded like it was a traffic stop. One officer was shot. Another detective who i believe was nearby responded. That officer was shot. And right now the suspect is holed up in that home. Heres the latest information we have on the Police Officers. They are both at san joses Regional Medical center this morning. There are officers from various agencies responding to that seen and responding to the hospital and holding vigils there. The first officer who was shot underwent emergency surgery and does remaining Critical Condition this morning. That officer has been with the Fremont Police department for about a year. The second officer who was shot is a 10 year veteran. This morning he is listed in stable condition. Is obviously very tragic any time gun violence happens in the city. When someone takes a shot at Law Enforcement or attempts to hurt someone in Law Enforcement, its terrible. City leaders, including fremont mayor bill harrison rushed to the hospital when he heard about the shooting. He tells us here that he does know both of the officers. He was able to see one of them. Other agencies that dropped by include san jose police, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety and the septic clare county Santa Clarita department of Public Safety. This affects a lot of people. We did just here that the schools are not planning to close today. They are getting to the end of the year. A lot of finals and things going on to wrap up the school year. We did hear the sergeant point out this is now a very confined situation. The few blocks knew that home where they have this person barricaded. Road closures could be an issue as people wake up in that area. Lets check in with sal. Also, the home was on fire now. We were saying that the Fire Department would probably respond. They may already be there but they may not be able to get close because of the man with the gun. We will see what happens there. I will update you on some of the streets that are closed off. Fremont boulevard as it turns into washington, circling the safeway, there is a burger king right here. A very busy intersection. If you know it, that is what will be affected. From washington as you go this way you will not be able to get through. Fremont boulevard heading up to this intersection this whole area is offlimits. Right now it is early enough so there is not a huge backup but there is a residential area all around this shopping complex. Please avoid the area. You will see traffic is going to be slow as the morning wears on. Other conditions around the bay. At the bay bridge toll plaza it looks nice. Fog is an issue today. If you are driving, especially near the call to cut or the golden gate bridge, he aware that his there. Speaking of the weather, lets go to steve and the forecast. Very foggy on the golden gate bridge. Also on both sides of the caldecott. A pretty good fog bank out there. Yesterday was a Strange Weather day. A cooled off in north bay and most of the south bay. It was a cool and funky pattern around the bay and on the coast but the east bay state hot. There was a huge difference in some of the temperatures. A robust delta breeze in place for fairfield. Gusts of 29 last hour. West at the napa airport. 58 in livermore. 58 in brentwood. Some low 50s in san rafael and santa rosa. East bay times, 52. 52 and black hawk. Mid50s for dublin. Plenty of fog and low clouds. There is some pretty warm air aloft. That puts some of the fog down on the deck. Morning fog. Cool to mild or not depending on your proximity around the bay. 90s inland. 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Hayward police are providing a description of a hitandrun driver who injured a union city motorcycle officer. Investigators say the officer pulled over a driver tuesday. The driver reversed into the officers motorcycle and then took off. The vehicle was later found, abandoned,. Hayward police at the officer was treated and released from the hospital. He reportedly has a broken leg. The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s. Five feet 10 inches tall weighing around 250 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket, blue tshirt, a baggie pair of black jeans and black shoes. Two of the suspects in the killing of a novato teenager appeared in court. They have not entered pleas. Juan Carlos Henriquez and Edwin Guevara faced charges of firstdegree murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors say the lord two classmates to a trail in an open space area last week. Then attacked both of them. One of the victims survived and called for help. Even though the suspects are younger than 18, they are being charged as adults. The law allows us to charge in cases of a brutal murder, minors over the age of 16 with certain enumerated crimes. Murder in the first degree with special circumstances being one of his crimes. Investigators are still searching for another suspect, Javier Guevara , is accused of using a machete during the attack. The Sheriffs Department said he is a known gang member. Oakland Police Need Help solving a recent murder case. Police say Ernesto Lauro was shot and killed in april. This happened while he was riding his bike on Lakeshore Drive in the piedmont area. Investigators believe he was leaving a party and heading toward lake merritt the night he was shot police say they know someone out there has information about the shooting. What led up to this . Were trying to figure out was he a target of this incident . Or was this just a random act . He was a texas native who had only lived in the area for a couple months. Police say they have been checking with neighbors and businesses hoping someone may have Surveillance Video from the night of the crime. There is a new blow against the San FranciscoPolice Department. Is semper cisco grand jury has really least a critical report saying after a series of scandals and failures the citys crime lab should no longer be run by the Police Department. That report claims that under the Police Department, the lab has been supervised by no fewer than six Police Captains since 2010, some of whom did not have College Degrees and a few who had science degrees. Critics worry innocent people could go to jail because of an accurate testing of evidence. The problem caused by the sinkhole on interstate 5 is now bigger. The chp has shut down the freeway and both northbound and southbound directions. Repair crews are working around the clock to reopen the road. The area seventh graders now published authors. A look at their new book and the message it is sending to other students. They have not started high school but some oakland students can call themselves published authors. A new book is now available on amazon. Its called, master of mindfulness, how to be your own superhero in times of stress. It was written by students in east oakland two years ago when they were in the fifth grade. The book teaches students how to calm themselves when they are angry or nervous. I was stressed out because i had a lot of death in the family and i could not get my mind street in school. My friends help me change my life when kids are feeling really emotional or when they are feeling overly stimulated or if they are really angry, they need a moment to calm down and to stop and take a breather and think before the next series of actions happens. That book came out a few months ago. Already it is in its third printing. Royalties are being used toward scholarships when these Young Authors are ready for college. A massachusetts boy is getting ready for a future in Law Enforcement after giving his dad an unexpected lesson on the rules of the road. My dad went past the red light. He has a black truck. It was in a brandnew car. My mommys car. Quincy Police Department heard that 911 call wednesday. Robby richardson called the police on his dad who was driving mommys car and he ran a red light. The dispatcher called the dad to make sure everything was okay. Robbie said he has dreams of being a Police Officer and was happy to get a chance to enforce the law. Were going to start off and look at the commute. People who are driving in tracy and coming in all the way through from 205 and 580 where they meet. You will see a lot of people there. There are some stop and go traffic there already. A lot of stop and go traffic onto a five 580 is also getting into the action on the altamont pass. Interstate 880 traffic is going to be okay as you drive through into oakland. No major problems coming through. At the bay bridge toll plaza you will see that traffic here will be busy but its not stop and go just yet. Some strange temperatures yesterday. Napa dropped 14 degrees. Santa rosa dropped about 10. San jose dropped around 7 or 8. The east bay did not drop it all. It was a cool pattern in downtown oakland and berkeley. Yet over the hills it was a hot one. Most locations cooled off dramatically yesterday. There is a pretty good delta breeze when you get 20 that is a good sign. Yesterday it was strong as well. Did call off some but not everyone. You will see of the breeze holds. 50s on the temperatures almost everyone 51 in san rafael and San Francisco. That is a cold morning. On the peninsula, 60s being held in check by low clouds and a south breeze. 55 in woodside. They made it up to 48 yesterday. 57 in belmont. 34 in truckee. 60 and sacramento. A lot of fog up and down the coast including the monterey peninsula. Low clouds and fog is on the deck. This low needs a kick to draw it up. This time of year that is a tall order but eventually this will head towards us. It will send in high clouds. By sunday it looks like it will punch through and that should open the door to it looks to be a cooler pattern for most. I say that because it sometimes, clearly, vacaville, brentwood, that can be very hard to cool off. 60s through 90s on the temperatures depending on your proximity to the coast or your wind direction. Tomorrow looks to be the hottest day. Pretty toasty on saturday but i think we call off sunday and monday. I was at the world ground, it was cold then i was in berkeley. The bay area air Quality Management district is issuing the first spare the air alert of the season. The air quality is expected to be unhealthy because of smog. The strong High Pressure system is bringing high temperatures and low winds to the bay area. These conditions combined with car exhaust will generate unhealthy ozone levels. Today is National Gun Violence awareness day and in the bay area its being recognized with a march on the golden gate bridge. The wear Orange Coalition is hosting this march across the bridge and starts at 11 30 am. The campaign was inspired by city of pendleton. She was killed in chicago in 2013. Friends decided to honor her life by wearing orange. The color that hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. She wouldve turned 19 years old today. Many people in San Francisco were alarmed to see water gushing into the streets while where crews stood by. It may look like a waste of water but looks can be deceiving. The San FranciscoPublic UtilitiesCommission Suspended it type of flushing program to the past three years because of the drought. Now there is enough stored water and snowpacked to allow the city to flush out the pipes of the carry water to homes, schools and businesses. The water we use for flushing is a fraction of our total annual consumption. Its the cost of doing business. Its a small price to pay for the benefits received. It maintains that great tasting water for our customers. Engineers point out another benefit is the quality of the water improves immediately because sediment settling in can make the water taste bad. Caltrans headed out 16 million to transit agencies in the east and south bay. The money will go toward projects that reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions. Among the projects, bart is set to get money for four electric railcars. The metropolitan Transportation Commission will get funds to replace hypercard gear on buses and light rails and ac transit will get money to buy in install technology that will turn stop light green for buses along a planned bus Rapid Transit line.
