Eastbound 24 inside the tunnel, theres a stalled truck loaded down with a bunch of soda. Its a big rig so theyre waiting for a tow truck. And its going to be closed for just a little bit. But its not causing a huge alert. It probably wont be there for too long. And its in the noncommute direction at this hour. Right here near 16th there was a report of a crash. Apparently, they got it out of the way quickly or the guy just drove off and traffic is moving along well. And traffic continues to look good coming in to the city. And not a big delay on the way to the city. But its wet. Lets go back to the desk. As youve been mentioning go careful. The roads are wet and slick. A lot of standing water as well. Its hard to see the minor flooding unless a car plows through it. And then you can kind of see the water splash up. I lucked out with the timing of that one over there. But there are other trouble spots with water pooling up. 880 freeway, jackson street off ramp in oakland is one of the usual suspects as well. And driving through that it did have to slow down to prevent hydroplaning. Something to keep in mind ahead of the morning commute. This is the first in a series of el nino like storms across the bay area. And no torrential downpours so far but weve seen just a steady, consistent, moderate rain. Tomorrow with the next round of storms, its supposed to be more intention. Northern california could get 15 inches of rain in the next 16 days and 2 feet of snow for the sierra. Here in the bay area, steady consistent rain is pretty much what weve been seeing since the overnight hours. Its not enough to look impressive but its enough to get wet when youre standing out here for just a few minutes. Keep that in mind and take it easy on the roadways. And right behind you when you were talking. You can see the water shooting up. And theyre right on cue. Yeah, a lot of water on the freeway. San Francisco Police are releasing new Surveillance Video in hopes of solving the killing of a 74yearold man who was waiting at a bus stop. Police are calling this man seen on video on december 5th a person of interest in the case. If you have any information on who he is or where he has, put in a call to police. President obama will lay out the executive actions he plans on taking to try and curb gun violence in the u. S. The president s focus is making gun sales subject to background checks. The president is scheduled to speak at 8 40 our time. Police in vallejo are trying to find the person who hit a woman in a crosswalk. Investigators say a white pickup truck in a westbound lane failed to stop and hit her. She was actually pushed into the eastbound lanes where an suv then hit her again. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the suv in the other lane stopped by the pickup truck drove off. One witness tried following the pickup and lost it and could not see a license plate number. This is surveillance photo of the truck. It is believed to be a white toyota fund rain chances with a long tundra with a long bed. Child protective services is investigating the death of a 9yearold boy who was mauled by three pit bulls. He was attacked by the dogs on sunday. A note posted outside the home reads family in anguish and mourning. Please respect our privacy. The sister went to work and left tyler alone with her three pit bulls. When she left these dogs and two were in the kennel by the way, the mother dog was not in the kennel and the other two got out. She had no reason to believe that these dogs would pose a threat to her younger brother. Reporter she was trying to adopt her younger brother. He had been in the foster care system since the mother died. The dogs had no history of violence. The white house hopes an armed Antigovernment Group thats taken over a wildlife preserve in oregon can be convinced to leave peacefully. Dwight and Steven Hammond have been ordered to serve four more years for setting fire to federal grazing lands. The two men turned himself in in Southern California yesterday. But the Militia Group is standing up for the rights of the ranchers and everyone else. The relatives are trying to create distance from the protesters. An ordinance would declare a shelter crisis in oakland and make it possible for the city to relax some of the rules to help Homeless People find a place to get off the streets. And that would include converting warehouses into shelters, and it could divert money. Its only a temporary fix critics say. A group of state senators unveiled a proposal. And that plan includes spending 2 billion on housing. The money would be combined with federal and local money to rehabilitate and construct 10,000 Housing Units primarily for mentally ill people. About 116,000 Homeless People are living in california. San Francisco Mayor ed lee is calls for all city departments to cut spending. The city faces a 100 million budget deficit for the next fiscal year which starts on july 1st. Hes calling for a 3 spending reduction. City Officials Say pension costs are the main factor. More baby boomers are retiring and cashing out pensions. Parking may get more expensive in San Francisco. The Transportation Agency will vote on a proposal to raise parking meter fees by 25 cents. The increase is to make up for a 27cent transaction fee for people who pay for meters by credit card or by phone. The city is being forced to abandon the transaction fee because it violates visas operating agreement with the city. The raiders have asked the nfl for permission to move to los angeles. Whats been happening in the willow glenn neighborhood . Reporter a splash of color on a city owned utility box is part of the art project. But in the last few weeks, someone has been painting over the art work. It was a destruction using primer paint covering the whole box. Reporter these boxes are painted by local artists and funding through Community Donations and some are personal gifts. He put graffiti resistant coating on the boxes he sponsored, boxes that cost the artist in time and surprise. I have a level of anger. Reporter hes pushing the city to offer a 5000 reward to catch the culprit. Its heartbreaking for me and other artists. I had whimsical houses and kids walking home. Reporter she showed up the before pictures and spent days painting. The art can be redone but its a lot of heart and soul put in these things. Boy, lake tahoes heaven lee ski resort is promising a full investigation into what caused a chair to fall off the lift over the weekend. No one was on the chair at the time but the accident caused a scare for the 65 people on the lift heading up the mountain at the time. Members of the resort ski patrol had to evacuate skiers from the chair lift. They lowers each of them from the chairs using ropes and pulllies. The coast guard a 50 foot boat sank. No one was on board. The owner of the boat was 52 yearold Jennifer Lynn died on the boat on Christmas Day and shes a cousin of the lieutenant governor. The cause of death is still under investigation. And authorities in oklahoma have found the body of a Country Singer who went missing during a hunting trip. Craig strickland was found along the shoreline in an area called bear creek cove. He disappeared a week ago while duck hunting with his friend during a major storm. Police say the boat capsized and his body was found two days later. He also sent out a tweet saying in case we dont come back craig and i are going through winter storm goliath to kill ducks in oklahoma. Flooding is still a big concern in louisiana as the Mississippi River continues to rise because of heavy rain. The army corps of engineers says its thinking about opening a spillway to try to control the flooding. The spillway is 30 miles north of new orleans. January 9th. The river will reach its threshold at the new orleans carolton gauge which will trigger the decision to open the bonn carey spillway. Water levels came in at 13. 5 feet yesterday. Heavy flooding is putting a castle in scotland at risk of falling into a river. The castle lies on the banks of the river dee in northeast scotland. Flood waters have washed away a large amount of soil. And some in nearby towns have been forced to evacuate. More torrential rain is expected to hit in the next few days. One man is under arrest in china can suspected of starting a bus fire that killed 17 people. Flames fully engulfed that bus. 32 were injured and Police Arrested the suspected arsonist after launching a manhunt. The bus fire not uncommon in china. There have been several in recent years.
