Im scott, and im in rainy memphis, tennessee, a game coming up between the grizzlies and the warriors. Youre looking at what will be the team and theyre set to practice. Well have a full report after this. Well, a busy weekend in the bay area and this morning we have a heads up for all you drivers out there. A bridge closure is under way right now and its going to be in place all weekend long. Well tell you whats being done and how you can get around it. Mornings on 2 continues. Welcome back to mornings on 2, its saturday may 9, im claudine wong. Im mike me back. It was range in memphis, we saw that picture of scott in memphis. Rosemary is on deck and no rain out there, its very dark, excuse me. Well check in with her a little bit. Its a little gray but not that dark. Counting down to game time, nine hours away from tipoff to the Golden State Warriors taking off the memphis grizzlies, scott is with the warriors for this lovely weekend. Scott, i guess you can say youre in a wet start a little bit before todays big game. Reporter yeah, mike, no question about it. Elvins may not have left the building, hes inside the building because its been raining cats and dogs here for a couple of hours. In fact, our supervideographer chip vaughn got us video and the theme, we have thunder, lightning and all kinds of stuff. We were supposed to be like this. Really the rain storms caught everyone behind. We dont have rosemary out in memphis, they werent expecting the thunderstorms early in this degree, early in the day, they were supposed to dissipate midday, its basketball so they play it indoors anyway, not a big deal. As for the warriors, the team arrived 4 00 memphis time. We if the a practice session in. Certainly the attitude among the team is no nonsense after the debacle of game 2. This will be no surprises in terms of Mike Connolly. Theyre dotting the mask in game 2, they took some folks, the warriors by surprise, not only how well he played and scoring 22 points, he was a big factor in that game, the warriors will be ready for him. The warriors dont have to travel to get to the fedex forum. Here we have the warriors tv hotel the westin, you can see the team buses which moments from now, the warriors will be boarding to go to practice. Yes, they bus the 90 street across the street to get to fedex forum, partially because of the rain and partially theyll go in a separate entrance in the throngs of basketball fans. We have a couple of fans inside getting autographs and meet their heroes and getting set to game 3 tonight at fedex forum. In regards to game 2, what popped for me is the 20 turnovers. What popped is swarming defense from the grizzlies. I think that is probably first and foremost, 20 turnovers is unacceptable. They share the ball so well. The assists were down, the turnover is way up, its not a formula for success at any level. They didnt play well in game 2, they had a terrible night. I imagine they will be much more on point in tonights game. By the way i dont want to bog you down with numbers mike, in the history of the nba playoff game, the seer, they have gone on to win the series 82 of the time. This one is big tonight. Its a big one, hopefully this will be a classic in the favor of the Golden State Warriors. Have a good game out there, scott, thanks for hanging out with us this morning. Lets go to rosemary, there you are. A little rain in memphis, clouds in the bay area too. If scott could bring back some of that rain. Were gloomy out here, were cool and breezy, but no rain to speak of. As i point you out towards San Francisco, you can see the cloud cover there, we are socked in pretty good. Drivers that cross that bridge on a regular basis, they agree they need maintenance, but some wondered if this particular weekend was the right time to did it. It will affect my commute. Its bad idea, mothers day weekend, how many families are going to try to cross this side of the bay over here on mothers day weekend. Caltrans is planning to reopen the bridge no later than 5 00 on monday morning, sometimes they do finish a little early, the span will be shut down memorial day after that, the resurfacing will be done by monday. There is a joy that happens and there is greater empathy that they develop and compassion for each other and also a greater sense of the world around them. We do multicultural music to make sure that they are not only seeing their piece of the world but they are seeing how they can impact. What do you want people to see when they come to their performances, the kids in school or performances tonight, what do you hope the message is to the community. Tonight the warriors and grizzlies battle it out in game 3 of the second round series. Golden state off the first loss in the playoffs dropping tuesdays game 9790. Before the teams hit the court, the warriors are being given a tongue in cheek challenge. Wear years, come out to play. Warriors, come out to play. This was posted on twitter by the memphis grizzlies. Its play on the 1979 movie the warriors about a gang war in new york city. This time around its seeing this post, the grizzly player mike conway is in the protective mask unlike the movie. Now the warriors came out on top. I hope for the same thing. Simon and sal are swinging by the studio. That has history, that movie and that footage. The warriors got that in every visiting arena. That is what they would come out to and what the opposing team would play. Sal, you remember the actor who played the real michael conley. David patrick kelly. He is very unknown. I dont know until i googled it. Warriors arrived out yesterday. One of the things that popped for me, this scoring is down 12, 13 points compared to new orleans. How do we get rid of the double team that was effective in game 2. He works better when Clay Thompson is playing better. When currys teammates arent doing well, he has to do more then focus more on him. The thing that was strange about the game the other night, it didnt look anything like a regular warrior game. That is what to me was alarming. They didnt look like the warriors. Despite that, they lost by 7 00. Not like they were blown out. Which leads me to believe if they had made some of those points one time when i was yelling at the tv, when clay went up for the layup and you it would be tried to dunk it but it didnt get in and there were a couple of times they gave the ball away. At the ends of the game, even though it was closer than it seemed, at the end of the game by 7 00 some of those points could have come back. I kept the sporting drink from wednesday. Steve said i thought we lost our poise. Everyone was trying to do everything frantically and on their own. Do you think clays miss dunk, players were taking it on their own shoulders. They havent played from behind a lot this year. True. If you look at the warrior season, they got up on teams, stayed up on teams. They rarely had a come from behind or play from behind. The game in new orleans in game 3 was different but when you play from behind its different, changes things a bit. They probably want to get up. I got better flies. This is a big game. Another thing i think was a distraction was the mvp trophy being presented and kind of took curry off of his like the routine. He said blah, blah, blah. Now lets get back to work. The day before he was doing this press stuff because of the mvp. That is over with, out of the way. The warriors are other than the mvp they want a championship trophy. Charles barclay, who is not a big fan of the warriors and vice versa, he won the mvp early in his career in a game before a playoff game. He said curry will have trouble because its distracting. He wont have to raise the trophy in memphis. Warriors win. Yes but close. Sal. I think so, too. I think the warriors got a wake up call. I think they will come out, execute and pass the ball more. I think curry is a good coach to get him to do that. Thanks for swinging in. Rosemary, take it away. Your thoughts on the game. It was a nail biter but i am rooting for the warriors. Outside the doors this morning, we have gray skies and gray skies slowly beginning to peel back. I will show you the satellite view in a moment. First lets check in on the temperatures with that view on the back draw from San Francisco, the bay bridge and pointing to the east. 54 degrees santa rosa. 52 San Francisco. Mid50s oakland. San jose 56 degrees. Over the course of the morning we watched the temperatures creep ever so slightly. We have all this cloud cover in place, hard for those numbers to rebound unless you have sunshine. In areas like antioch and brentwood low 60s at this hour. A good looking start to your day. For most of us, this is what we have. A lot of cloud cover out there and we are looking at, again, just that morning morning gloom then into the afternoon it will peel back. In the last hour or so the clouds have thinned out slightly. We will see it in the next hour or so. Could take until noontime before we are mostly sunny away from the coast. The coast will be mostly cloudy the entire day. Winds on shore 10 to 15 Miles Per Hour. Fairfield 15. Concord 12. The second half of the afternoon, low 60s at the coast.
