Morning. You know im wimpy. When i get in the car and turn on the heat. Its saturday, april 18th. What i also noticed about that is the sun and the yellow and im just saying, were all fired up and ready to go. All excited. 5 1 2 hours away. I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy. But this is what theyre putting on the seats. I just wanted to throw that out. The sun is shining and hopefully, it will shine on oracle. We have excited times. Couldnt help but feel like we were on cloud nine. Were going to give you another shot over mount diablo. Take a look. The clouds and fog spreading farther inland. As a result, we have a bit of cooling coming our way. Our inland communities are not going to feel it so much. By along the coast and the bayside communities will feel it. Inside the bay, portions of the east bay and the north bay. And you can see in the south bay as well. As we get into the second half of the morning, its going to burn away. Its going to hug close to the coast once again. And temperatures will range from the upper 50s to low 60s right along the coast. We have 60s and 70s just inside the bay. And the inland communities will be back in the upper 70s and a few low 80s and into the central valley. Definitely a day of 80s there as well. Look at the afternoon highs. Take a look at whats happening. 47 in napa. 51 in may ward. 49 in San Francisco. And with the low clouds, theyre lookly to experience delayed flights. Afternoon highs, 75 in oakland. 71 san rafael. And 81 san jose. 84 in antioch. And a near repeat of what we had yesterday with a tad bit of cooling in some areas. 69 in San Francisco and cooling off for the giants game. Ill have a look at the forecast and the rest of the weekend and the possibility of a few scattered showers coming our way in just a bit. Anticipation is building for the warriors playoff opener. The warriors square off against the new orleans pelicans. The warriors won three of four games between the two teams. Dont count the pelicans out. But odds makers have tapped the warriors as the favorites. Todays game is a sellout. If you want a ticket, they are available through online brokers. On stub hub, tickets start at 105 and go all the way to 7600 for people who want to sit courtside. And parking passes are at least 60 bucks. Demand for warriors games is the highest of any playoff series. This is a seven game series. Heres a look at the schedule. Tipoff today is 12 30 at oracle. And game two is also at organic call. Three and four will be in new orleans. And well talk live to a basketball writer about the warriors championship chances. Earth day is the 22nd. But celebrations will be taking place all weekend. We have a report from San Francisco where they are setting up for a big festival. Reporter theyre expecting anywhere from 5 to 10 thousand people. This is the first time theyve had it here in the mission. We are on mission between value lens ya and mission. What do they have here. Everything from a green vehicle. And more of these smart cars. Theyre going to have an eco fashion show. And well explain what that is. And theyve got music booths, arts and crafts, and a lot of green and sustainable nonprofit organizations will be setting up to give people the information they need to figure out how to be more ecofriendly as part of the earth day festival. Sean aherrin is one of the producers. What are some of the things people can learn. Ecosustainability living in the city. Were not that connected to nature living in San Francisco. Were bringing in the cool things like electric cars a fashion show, great music. What a Great Community organization. And just education about how you can be green and sustainable. What is an ecofashion show. All the clothes you have in your closet. We have people collect them. And take the favorites and recondition them and upcycle. We collect vintage and turn them to high end fashion. And use materials that are easy on the environment and dont take so much water or care. Reporter everyone can be ecofashionable. [siren] those sirens sounded at 5 12 this morning, marking the exact time the great quake hit 109 years ago. This mornings ceremony included a minute of silence followed by a sing along of the song San Francisco. Officials say the city and its people showed amazing resilience to rebuild after the natural disaster. Great recognition and commemoration of our earthquake, and more importantly of the restoration and the comeback of our city and the stories behind that that are so important. Reporter the annual remembrance including painting a fire hydrant gold. The hydrant is credited for helping firefighters put out the destructive fire. The quake wiped out 80 of the city. Tomorrow night at 11 00 on a second look well delve into the natural disaster. Youll hear the Amazing Stories of those who survived that earthquake. Pg e a pipeline explosion injured 14 people near fresno. It happened near highway 99. Video of the flames was captured from people in multiple vehicles. Pg e says a county worker was using heavy equipment to build up a berm on the gun range when the explosion happened. A backhoe that a nonpg e crew was using. And its all part of the ongoing investigation. A 12inch guess line was injured. A new plan designed to get cities to reduce water use is expected to be released today. The California Water board has heard a lot of complaints and its trying to take them into consideration. The cuts will be based on water use in 2013. The board can impose hefty fines for noncompliance. The pressure is on the water districts to reach whatever targets are set. They have to figure out how to work with consumers and water users to reach the targets. San francisco is in better shape than many. It gets water from and serves several other cities. Residents have been conserving water for some time. Oakland police investigated at least three strait shootings overnight. A woman was shot in the head while sitting in a car on 89th avenue near plymouth street. The victim later showed up at highland medical center. And early this morning, a person was wounded in the arm in a shooting at a parking structure in Jack London Square and no arrests have been made in any of these cases. A transit bus hit a pedestrian in oakland. It happened in the area of 36th street and dr. Martin luther king jr. Way. Police are not releasing much about the incident. The bus driver did stop at the scene. We do not know if there were any passengers on board at the time of the incident. We have reached out to ac transit and are waiting for a response. Officials have come up with a plan to make walking in the city safer and easier. To schools, transit, parks, and neighborhood shopping centers. Residents will have a chance to give input by filling out a survey or attending a public workshop in may. Caltrans is trying to assure transportation officials that the span of the bay bridge will hold up. Caltrans met yesterday. Safety concerns include short bolts and microscopic cracks in bolts that help anchor the span. Bay area transportation officials are alarmed about rising costs after the construction of the bridge such as the demolition of the old span. The main branch of the San Francisco Public Library will be closed today because of maintenance. Crews are working on the sewage system. A Library Spokeswoman says the current problem is not the same as the incident last august that plugged up drains. Theres a bookmobile to handle returns and the main library will open tomorrow. 15,000 are expected in San Francisco. And low 50s in hayward. And temperatures up from yesterday morning in areas like napa because of the low cloud cover. It may not feel so good if you dont have the sunshine for the giants game this afternoon. 60degrees at game time. It will remain on the coastline for today. And just inside the bay and parts of the north bay. It will start to bush off as we get to 9 00 or 10 00. Into the afternoon, temperatures rebounding, and where we have the fog not going to be as warm. 53 at this hour in palo alto. A 14. 5 million drug operation has been uncovered. The Sheriffs Office and the fbi found 5000 Marijuana Plants inside a building on stone road. Deputies and agents say the growing operation was responsible for millions of dollars of product. Authorities found another illegal growing operation in a warehouse a half mile away. San Francisco Police are taking steps to keep in check a large marijuana festival. Its the annual 420 marijuana celebration. Local pot dispensaries say 420 is probably the biggest day of the year. Well have a big party and a bunch of freebies, testers, a little bit of everything. Its going to be fun. Local merchants thought last years crowd would mean extra business. Some experienced a 90 falloff. They blame police for shutting off access. Nobody could enter into the hate ash bury district. The merchants not rape. We were not warned. And it was a significant drop in business. Police are hoping to keep street closures to a minimum. Undercover officers will be targeting underage pot smokers. Must continue to lead the world in addressing the issue such as using wind and solar power and driving more fuel efficient cars. The oakland zoo is hosting a party for the planet. And i ran into this guy and another thing i dont really do is put my food scraps im not using into a green card where you can basically composting. Thats another of my pledges. Put fruit scraps in your green cart and reduce waste going to the landfill. 20 of solid waste is extremings and food scraps. And the bags are good. There are some stores that are not on board. A cooldown for the bayside communities. Farther inland, little to no change. The federal government has issued an emergency order for trains hauling crude oil and other flammable liquids, must slow down when they pass through urban areas. The Obama Administration has been issued to increase safety. No trains currently ship crude through the bay area, but a plan could be in place. There have been several crashes involving rail trains, and one incident killed 47 people in canada. The golden gate district is pleased with the moveable median. The safety barrier went up in january. And its already prevented at least two potential headon collisions. The adjustment period is going better than hoped and the district is concerned that drivers may get a little too comfortable on the bridge and drive faster than the posted speed limit, 45 miles per hour. Dozens will search for a man who went off the side of the antioch bridge in a motorcycle crash. They are looking for dylan who was on his harley and collided with a car on the bridge and plunged 135 feet into the water. The winds have made the search difficult. Hes presumed dead but volunteers want to bring closure to the family. He has to be found for the family. And the only way to have that occur is to let people know hes still missing and for people to help in the search. He has a 3monthold daughter and was engaged to be married. Searchers have recovered a Motorcycle Helmet and a stuffed animal in the river. And a fundraising account has been established on behalf of his little girl. A player on a the Los Angeles Kings has been arrested on charges of cocaine possession. Forward jared stole was arrested at a pool in the mgm casino. He was released after posting 5000 bail. And san jose will be 11 above the seasonal norm. As we get in the extended forecast. A ridge of High Pressure is still in place. And you can see the storm track well to the north of us, its going to eventually shift as we get into the week ahead. Im talking monday to tuesday. Notice whats going on. We have a few sprinkles over Northern California and were now into tuesday and whats going on . A few sprinkles over california. Wednesday, more of the same. Thursday, more of the same. So a bit of unsettled weather coming our way. The only draw back is that it doesnt look like much. And some models want to drop the system inland. And when that happens a lesser chance at getting showers, well leave that in and well be tracking and that will be our next chance at maybe seeing a little bit of rain. So you can see here a little bit more widespread than what we had yesterday. And as a result temperatures around the bayside communities could cool a little bit. Its going to pullback and well have mostly sunny skies as we get into the second half of the morning, at least away from the coast. Notice the coast is socked in and continuing at least for most of the day. Well be partly cloudy at times and if it pulls back just enough you may get sunshine and some areas will continue partly to mostly cloudy for the entire saturday. Giving you a look here. Celebrations are taking place all over the area. We have a live report from San Francisco at the site of one big festival getting ready to kick off earth day taking over the entire city block of the mission district. You can see its closed off. And vendors selling product that is fit the bill. These are stalks of sugar cane. The husks or the stalks around it gets discarded. This company you were the this stuff into paper. We burn im sorry, normally sugar cane would be burned in the fields. The waste would be thrown away. Are these called husks . Stalks. We take the residual and turn it into paper. And you use bamboo also. We use about 60 sugar cane and the rest is bamboo. We marrest it two or three times a year. And we take the top of the bamboo and it keeps growing. And you make cardboard materials too. Yeah, its called the thumb tray. You can carry this around. This is a great event to use it. Therell be a lot of great food. And your guys are making sugar cane juice for people. We have a hand crank juice machine and were going to be serving small servings of the juice in these little cups made of sugar cane. [siren] and the siren sounded at 5 12 this morning marking the exact time that the great quake hit 109 years ago. The ceremony included a minute of silence followed by a sing along of the song San Francisco. Officials say the city and its people showed amazing resilience and efforts to rebuild. Great academic ration of our earthquake and more importantly of our restoration and the comeback of our city and the stories behind that that are so important. In 1906, the quake was believed to be a magnitude 7. 7 and 7. 9 somewhere in there. The quake and fire storm killed about 3000 people and wiped out 80 of the city. Tomorrow night at 11 00 on a second look on ktvu well delve deeper into the natural disaster. Youll hear the Amazing Stories of the people who survived the 1906 quake. Thats the second look after tomorrows 10 00 glue. We gout off the phone about a bus that hit a pedestrian in oakland. The person was hit by another vehicle and was on the ground when the bus came. It hit the individual and dragged him or her for a short distance. This happened before midnight in the area of 36th street and dr. Martin luther king jr. Way. The Sheriffs Office sed the person is hospitalized in grave condition. We do not know if there were any passengers on board at the time of this incident. And a new plan designed to get cities to recuse water use by a third is expected to be released today. The water board is hearing a lot of complaints from water districts and its trying to take them into consideration. It will be based on water use in 2013 and will range from 10 to 25 . The board can impose fines for noncompliance. The pressure is on the water districts to reach whatever targets are set. They have to figure out how to work with consumers and water users to reach those targets. San francisco is actually in better shape than many. It gets its water from and it serves several other cities as well. Residents have beenen conserving water for some time so cuts are expected at 10 . I think the warriors have faced a lot of that. Teams are trying to take the shooters out of the game. What teams try to do is run them off the three point line and make them play inside the arc, the Golden State Warriors have good passers. And the other players are capable of making plays. Curry and thompson are terrific shooters, but the team is very well balanced offensively and defensively. And theyve gotten scoring from a lot of different players. Live in San Francisco a big festival is set to get underway in just about 90 minutes or so. Hey, allie. Reporter theyve had a celebration for the last 45 years. This is a long standing tradition. This is the first time its in the mission district. They are taking up an entire city block. They are setting up right now. A big part of this, music, arts and crafts and a lot of ecofriendly green nonprofits. They are showcasing a lot of vendors selling sustainable products. And one is sugar made. They turn the byproducts of sugar cane, this stuff here, into office paper using sugar cane and bamboo. Both are sustainable products. Sustainable substances. One thing theyre doing out here is theyll have samples of sugar cane juice. And tell me about your product and what makes it sustainable. What makes it sustainable is because the product is made from sugar cane which you make sugar out of. And we dont make sugar. Normally, the residue would be discarded or burned and instead we use it to make paper. And we add bamboo, and thats harvested two or three times a year. We take the top of the bamboo and it continues to grow. And this is sugar cane juice. I dont know if you can get a closeup shot. It looks like lemonade or something. Im going to try it. Its definitely sweet. It tastes like sugar water but not like a soda, theres nothing artificial about it. Its estimated that 15,000 people showed up last year. Local. Ins thought it would mean business for some merchants blame police for closing streets and shutting off access. Nobody could enter with a vehicle into the haightashbury district. The merchants were not happy. We were not warned about it. And it was a significant drop in business. Officers are going to be on the lookout for unruly behavior. Juvenile, probation, and undercover officers will be targeting underage pot smokers. A search for a motorcyclist who went off the side of the antioch bridge following a crash last weekend. They have been scanning the San Joaquin River under the bridge. He was in a rally and collided with a car on the bridge and plunged 135 feet into the water. Winds have made the search difficult but hes presumed dead. Volunteers want to bring closure. He has to be found for the family. And the only way to have that occur is to let people know hes still missing and to let people help in the search.
