One person is dead, two others are in Critical Condition after a car crash. Police say the driver of one of the cars involved had been driving recklessly and had led police on a chase just before that crash. This all happened about 9 30 last night on 24th street and gainor avenue. Allie with more. Reporter the driver accused of causing the crash ran away and police couldnt find him but overnight Richmond Police did locate that man and did arrest him. Hes now going to be facing gross vehicular manslaughter charges. That is what he was arrested for during the overnight hours. He was accused of causing this crash that killed a 24yearold man and seriously injured two others. Two men also in their 20s. The three people in the car were driving down 24th street near gainor when they were broadsided by the suspect driver who was fleeing police. How did police find and arrest the man . Well, according to Richmond Police who told us this morning the man who apparently caused the crash called dispatch hours after that crash claiming he had been carjacked. Once detectives went to his house, interviewed him, saw his Vehicle Police say the man made some statements that revealed he had been not been carjacked and had in fact caused that crash. Again he was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter and police tell us this morning he also appeared to have been driving under the influence. Were hoping to talk with Richmond Police more about this later this morning. We will remain out here and bring you an update later in the show. Back to you. The search continues for three Armed Robbery suspects who struck and killed a woman during a chase with San Francisco police. They hit the person and she went flying. Police say 42yearold Bridget Klecker was hit at a crosswalk and kearney and california friday night. After hitting her it struck another person and injured them Near Union Square. And then at market hit a car full of people but no one was hurt there. The men were being chased in connection with several street robberies. The suspects in the vehicle were armed and did commit numerous violent felonies. Bridget klecker ran several cafes in mountainview. She died at the hospital. She was one of the nicest warmest person ive known. Didnt have a mean bone in her body. She was super nice. Would always help you. Police say they located the stolen car on treasure island, officers searched the area but couldnt find the robbers. Overnight closures on a section of the nimitz freeway in oakland start today. Cal transwill shut down the northbound and southbound lanes of i880 between 23rd and 29th avenues. The closures will take place everyday from 9 00 p. M. To 5 00 a. M. Through thursday morning. Lets look at 880. So far pretty light. Its a live picture of 880 right near the coliseum. Several miles south of tonights closure is what were looking at. This is all part of a 19month long project. It appears a major intersection of San Francisco will be reopening on time tonight. The intersection of van ness avenue and gary street has been shut since friday night. Construction crews are building a tunnel for the future California Pacific Medical Center with medical offices across the street. This weekend crews were installing the framework for the underground work scheduled for this summer. Later this month van ness will close again so crews can finish the framework. The 8 foot tall art deco clock is back. Workers began reinstalling it this weekend. It was removed last august so its electric motor, hands and other features could be rebuilt. Crews will work the next few weeks to reattach the arms and neon numbers. That work is part of a 2 million seismic retrofit project. A military protest is scheduled to take place today on the Golden Gate Bridge. Demonstrators will be wearing black and carrying a coffin to the center of the bridge around noon. Cell phone and other Communication Networks in and around boston were overwhelmed following the bombings and as a result many calls to 911 couldnt get through. So that is why a College Professor developed what she calls spider radio. Its a Communications System that prioritizes cell phone calls during emergencies. As soon as it relays, theres a demand for a bigger band system. Its immediately automatically going to gather all the bands that are available to the device so they can do whatever rescue and Search Operations they need to do. That extended forecast coming up. Concern is growing over an earthquake fault that runs under central concord. The 11mile fault stretches from the carquinas strait to the mount diablo foothills. Scientists say its capable of producing a catastrophic yolk. According to the times, if it happens it could leave Northern California with less access to fuel. The u. S. Geological survey says theres only a 3 to 4 probability of a magnitude 6. 7 or higher earthquake on that concord fault over the next 30 years. Potential threat of a shooting has security on high alert at the cal state east bay campus in hayward. The threat overheard by a student who reported it to officials. Police say when she struggled and fought back he let her go and drove off. As a condition of his bail he must wear a gps anklet and be taken to an Inpatient Mental Health facility. A neighbor of the girl says shes relieved hes not being released on bail into the community. Im fine with the fact hes in a facility getting, hopefully the mental help he needs. Prosecutors say his dna was found on the duct tape, that was put on the girls face during the attack. He could face 11 years in prison if convicted. San Francisco Police chief greg suhr says a court indirectly kept secret racist Text Messages written by some officers. The internal Affairs Division obtained the text in september of 2012 after being tipped off by federal prosecutors who were investigating three policemen in an unrelated case. However, greg suhr tells the chronicle a federal protective order in that case kept the texts from being made public. He didnt learn about the texts until january. Musician shot and killed outside of a bar in oakland will be laid to rest wednesday. 26yearold Emilio Nevarez died easter morning. He was bringing out equipment when he was hit by a stray bullet. Last year more than 500,000 acres burned in california and close to 450 structures were destroyed. Federal officials are investigating whether nestle is using expired permits to pipe water from a National Forest and sell it as bottled water. For years Nestle Waters north america has been transported water across the San BernardinoNational Forest as aarrowhead water but their permit expired in 1988. Another one expired in 1994. A Environmental Review for another permit could take more than two years. The drought may be causing problems across the state but could be improving lake tahoes clarity. New this morning Richmond Police have arrested a driver accused of causing a fatal crash after he led police on a chase. The crash happened around 9 30 last night at the intersection of 24th and gainor. Allie rasmus live in richmond with what police are saying about the arrest and the victims. Reporter Richmond Police identified the victim as 24 yearold Anthony Glenn of richmond. He and two other men in their 20s were riding in their black honda civic 9 30 last night at 24th and gainor when a black corvette broadsided them. Glen died, two others in the car were critically injured. Police say one of them was ejected from the car and Police Actually found him on the sidewalk. He is in Critical Condition at the hospital. Police say before this crash happened they had tried to pull over the driver of that corvette for driving recklessly through the neighborhood. The driver refused to pull over and led police on a chase. He chased the vehicle throughout the neighborhood until he lost the vehicle as it turned southbound on 23rd street. Reporter a short time later officers found this crash scene a few blocks away on 24th street. The driver of the corvette ran away, police werent able to find him immediately after that crash. However, a few Hours Later Police say the driver of that corvette called them claiming he had been carjacked. When detectives arrived saw his car and interviewed the man they say he made several statements that revealed he had not been carjacked and that he was the earn responsible for the person responsible for the crash. He was arrested for vehicular manslaughter. And Richmond Police also believe he was driving under the influence. One of the Police Officers that was out here is going to update us in a little while. Well bring that to you in about 30 minutes from now. The search continues for three Armed Robbery suspects who struck and killed a woman during a chase with San Francisco police. The car hit this person and she went flying. Police say 42yearold Bridget Klecker was hit in a crosswalk friday night. After hitting her the car then struck and injured another person Near Union Square. Then south of market they ran a red light and hit a car full of people. No one was injured there. The men were being chased in connection with several street robberies. Suspects in the vehicle were armed. And they did commit numerous violent felonies. Bridget klecker was a Food Service Manager who ran several calfise at google headquarters in cafes at google headquarters in mountainview. She was the nicest person i know. She will always help you. Police say they located the stolen vehicle on treasure island, officers searched the area but couldnt find the robbers. Overnight closures on a section of the nimitz freeway in oakland starts today. Cal trans will shut down northbound and southbound lanes of i880 between 23rd and 89th avenues 29th avenues. It takes place everyday through thursday morning. Traffic so far very light on i 880 this sunday morning. This is a live look near the oakland coliseum. Several miles this is several miles south of tonights closure. The closure part of a 19 month long project to replace the existing 29th avenue overcrossings. It appears a major San Francisco intersection will be reopening on time tonight. The intersection of van ness avenue and gary street has been shut down since friday night. Construction crews are building a tunnel for the medical center. Theyve been installing the framework for underground work scheduled for the summer. Later this month the area will close again to finish the framework. The golden gate clock is back. According to the independent journal workers began to reinstall it this weekend. It was removed last august so electric motors and other mechanical features could be rebuilt. Crews will work the next few weeks to reattach the clocks arms and neon numbers. That work is part of a 2 million toll plaza seismic retrofit project. A military protest is scheduled to take place today on the Golden Gate Bridges. Demonstrators will wear black and carry a coffin to the center of the bridge, its going to happen around noon. Reporter we just spoke to a Richmond Police lieutenant about this and he said that because this fatal crash started with a Police Pursuit the department has asked other agencies to come in and investigate. Specifically Contra Costa County das office and the chp. Police identified the victim of this fatal crash as 24yearold Anthony Nguyen of richmond, he and two other men also in their 20s were in a black honda civic driving in the area of 24th and gainor 9 30 last night when they were broadsided by the driver of a black corvette. Anthony died at the scene, Police Say Two others were injured. Police say before the crash happened they had tried to pull over the driver of that corvette for driving recklessly through the neighborhood. The driver refused to pull over, police then started a pursuit and short time later, during the pursuit, it stopped around 23rd street when the officer could no longer see the driver of that corvette. A short time after that officers found the crash scene a few blocks away on 24th street. I viewed this whole thing as tragic. The simplest thing for that gentleman to have done was just to stop. When the Police Officer initially tried to effect the traffic stop. Reporter at that crash scene the driver of the corvette ran away. This happened about 9 30 last night on 24th straight and gainer avenue. Police have made an arrest. Reporter police have also given us the identity of the victim. Shes identified as 24 year old anthony lynn of richland. He and two others in their 20s were in a black honda civic last night when they were broad sided by the driver of a black corvette. When was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were critically injured. One was ejected from the vehicle and found on the sidewalk. Before this crash police had tried to pull over the driver of the corvette for speeding through the neighborhood. The driver refused to pull over. A Police Officer pursued him. That came to an end when the Police Officer lost sight of the corvette around 23rd street. A short time later though another group of Police Officers found the corvette at this crash scene a few blocks away on 24 24th street. Police say because this fatal crash began with a Police Pursuit they have called in other outside agencies to investigate including the d. A. s office and chp. Its similar to protocol they use when investigating officer involved shooting. It appears that the officer followed policy and guidelines and was within policy as far as the pursuit is concerned. Obviously he chose good judgment by taking it upon himself to discontinue the pursuit. Reporter the driver of the corvette ran from the crash scene. When we drop off a keg we see fryer oil and they hand that over. We do a simple process and run it through a boiler. Thats one of the things that we use as our energy. One thing i didnt realize is how much water goes into it. We have done stories about how the drought may affect brewery. You are saving water by this process . This isnt saving water but we have teamed up with a start up that created a filter that filters our fluids. What does that mean . Everything we put down the drain. The search continues for three Armed Robbery suspects who struck and killed a woman during a chase with San Francisco police. 42 year old Bridget Klecker was hit friday night. After hitting klecker the car struck and injured another person Near Union Square. They ran through a red light and hit a car full of people but no one was hurt at that intersection. The men were being chased in connection with several street robberies. Richmond police have arrested a driver accused of a fatal crash after he led police on a chase. This is live from outside the Richmond Police department where we have been all morning. Our reporter is there talking to police about the crash, the victim and this mornings arrest. Thank you for joining us on mornings on 2. As we mention, we are following news from overnight. One is dead and two in Critical Condition after that police chase in richmond. Lets head to richmond for the latest. Reporter good morning. Richmond police told us because this fatal crash started with a Police Pursuit they are asking other agencies to step in and investigate including the d. A. s office and chp. The Richmond Police lieutenant we talked to explained it is similar to protocol they use when they investigate an officerinvolved shooting. Police have identified the victim as 24 year old anthony when of richmond. He and two other men of richmond in their 20s were in their black honda civic around 9 30 when the driver of a black corvette broad sided them. When died at the scene. The two others were critically injured and one was ejected from the vehicle and found on the sidewalk. Police say before the crash they had tried to pull over the driver of the corvette for speeding. The driver refused to stop. A Police Officer pursued him but that pursuit came to an end when the officer lost sight of the corvette around 23rd street. A short time later officers found the corvette at the crash scene a few blocks away on 24 24th street. It appears that the officer followed policy and guidelines and was within policy as far as the pursuit is concerned. Obviously he chose good judgment by taking it upon himself to discontinue that pursuit. Reporter the driver of the corvette ran away after the crash and police werent able to find him at the scene. A few Hours Later Police say the driver called them claiming he had been the victim of a carjacking. When detectives arrived they saw the car and interviewed the man. They said he made statements that revealed he had not been carjacked and police are pretty confident that he was the man behind the wheel of the corvette. He was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and police say they also believe this morning that he may have been driving under the influence when all this started. Thank you very much for that report. Federal officials are investigating whether nestle is using expired permits to pipe water from a National Forest and sell it as bottled water. For a number of years nestle has been transporting water to bottle as arrowhead 100 Mountain Spring water. Their permit expired in 1988. Another permit relating to a different contract expired in 1994. Renewing a permit requires Environmental Review and that could take more than two years. The drought may be causing problems across the state but it could be improving lake tahoes clarity. Researchers at uc davis say average clarity was 77. 8 feet, up 7. 5 feet from previous year.
