Mainly its Mendocino County. I cant do better than this. Sunrise, midlevel clouds over us. The cloud cover will keep temperatures slightly above average. Mostly cloudy, mild lows. They are in the 50s. Clouds and sun. Light rain to the north. This will probably be the last little system, San Francisco starting off warm. 54. 60. A high today of 56. Thats 4 above average. You can see some of that rain beginning to dip south. Still around Mendocino County. Theres been heavy rain on the north coast. It looks like thats where the heaviest will stay. Were keeping aon around cloverdale, lake county. 50s on the temps for most. There are a few 40s. Redwood city and novato in there. We get the cloud cover. It will be a mostly cloudy day but by tomorrow. More sunshine and warmer temps. Mild to muggy. Especially santa clara county. Highs, 60s and 70s. All right, sal, 580, 680. 580, 680 is always slow. You pay attention. I can tell. We do have some slow traffic in the east bay. Well start this time in another part of the east bay from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. That traffic is going to be busy from about pinole all the way to berkeley and most of that slow traffic is going to be, again, in richmond and el cerrito, about 27 minutes which is not the worst weve seen but its already slow as you head to the bay bridge toll plaza. When you get to the toll plaza, you will see a traffic backup of about 30 minutes well, 30 minutes if you include the time it takes to get into San Francisco, we have been looking at walnut creek. Southbound 680 traffic is backed up from 242 to walnut creek. And the traffic is going to be slow mostly on 680 after the after the 242 interchange. Since steve mentioned 580, 680, we have slow traffic in livermore. It gets better in dublin. 680 slows heading south towards sunol and fremont. Now, its 7 03. Back to the desk. Thank you, sal. We continue to follow developing news in vallejo where an active search is underway for a missing woman who could be held for ransom. Tara moriarty is live at mare island where a lot of resources are helping with the search, including the fbi. Good morning, tara. Reporter good morning. The fbi, we have the Vallejo Police here as well as the office of Emergency Services from Solano County. We havent seen a lot of activity here in this parking lot bea hind me. But we did see behind me. But we did see a team head out. We dont know where they went. Weve not been given a lot of information. But there are a lot of resources being thrown at it. We do know that later this morning, authorities will conduct a search of the home where the victim was taken a few blocks from here. We want to show you a picture of 30yearold Denise Huskins who works as a physical therapist at kaiser in vallejo. Authorities believe she was taken on the 500 block of kirkland avenue just after 2 00. Officers were notified about the kidnapping from a 30year old man who sources say is either a roommate off a boyfriend. Police want anyone who saw huskinss white camera to call them. It was taken from the home on kirkland and found at a different location. If you have any information about her whereabouts, you can call the crime stopper tip line at 07644stop. There is also 707644 High Pressure stop. There is a press conference being set up for 10 00 at where we hope to glean more details. Back to you. We are also following breaking news out of france where an extensive search is underway after a plane crashed in morning in the french alps. The president of france says its unlikely anyone survived. The plane was en route to dusseldorf when it crashed. A News Conference being held in germany to update the media. Translator the last routine check of the plane took place yesterday, the 23rd of march, in dusseldorf by lufthansa technicians. The last regular major checkup of the plane is, according to the manuals of the airbus, this last major check took place in 2013. The captain of the plane youve been listening live to a News Conference about this plane crash. We want to show you a new picture just into the newsroom showing the area where the plane went down. This picture was taken from a rescue helicopter so you can see its a very remote area. Supposed to be very hard to get to. The airline says there were 150 people on board, including two babies. We also have new video of families of passengers gathering at the airport. Hard to imagine what they must be going through. The plane sent a distress signal saying emergency, emergency. People on the ground heard a loud noise moments before the crash. Now, frances l. A. Major commercial plane crash happened back in 2000 when an air france concord struck runway debris on paris. Meantime back heesh at home, new this morning as many as 25 cars at an auto action lot caught fire early this morning. Brian flores is out there now. Youve been talking with fire investigators. Any idea what happened . Reporter it remains unclear, dave, exactly what happened. But a fire investigator is here this morning. Behind me is the insurance auto auction lot. The fire has been out for some time. But it remains unclear, again, how this fire started. Want to go to video just moments after the fire started. Firefighters from the contra costa procedure protection responded. They say 25 overall were cars were damaged. Fighting this fire, firefighters say they had several challenges putting it out. These vehicles have a lot of plastics, rubber, fuel systems. The fires can burn intensely. Its kind of difficult to access this lot back here. This is pretty far off the road. So it took quite a while to put the fire out and then to do the overhaul to make sure it was fully out. Reporter that fire investigator who you just heard from is on scene figuring out what started this fire. He tells ktvu it remains unclear exactly how it started but they are looking at several factors looking at whether somebody perhaps broke into the lot, tried to start a car. Fire Officials Say there is a number of homeless encampments nearby. And they are also looking at other factors whether a simple battery spark may have started also. There is a couple of tow crews out there. Probably gonna be moving cars out there. 25 cars damaged from a fire this morning. Fire remains under investigation as well. Guys back to you. All right, brian flores, well talk to you later as you get more info. 7 09. There is some relief in antioch after a man suspected of trying to abduct a High School Girl was arrested by police. The man allegedly tried to take the girl around 9 30 yesterday morning on sagebrush drive near deer valley hool. The suspect is 21yearold allen. A 16yearold girl told teachers she was walking to school when the man drove up and tried to get her into his car. She walked away. A short time later, he got out and tried to grab her and she ran. The school alerted other students. Now, after hearing the announcement another girl came forward with a similar experience last month. Police say they eventually found allen in his car, not far from the school and he was arrested. 7 10. The Richmond City council will consider placing a moratorium on rent increases. About 40 Community Members who support the idea plan to be at tonights meeting. They are calling on the city council to pass a rent control ordinance. This comes after people received notice of a 20 rent increase. A troubled home in the south bay has been turned around thanks to a community program. Wayne combs has lived in his south san jose home for 40 years. But four and a half years ago a house in his neighborhood was rented out under section 8 housing. Thats when the problems started with people throwing garbage in his pool, destroying his mailbox and officers have been called to the home 50 times in the last three years. The house from hell is a good way to put it. We were angry and frustrated. Every time i come down here, everything looked good. His neighbors enlisted the hem of the responsible landlord engagement niths tish. Since 2009, the Nonprofit Program has helped 20 neighborhoods. Cal osha is investigating a tragic accident in mars where a gravel truck tipped over and crushed in martinez where a gravel truck tipped over and crushed a car. The vehicle was parked in a driveway. This killed a 30yearold woman inside. Neighbors say they called 911 and ran over to help as soon as they saw what happened. It was terrible. One of the workers thats working on the side of the street was trying to dig her out of the car. And a few of us tried to dig her out of the car. I told him to get the backhoe trying to lift the trailer off the car and the backhoe isnt Strong Enough to lift the trailer off the car. Family and friends have identified her as lindsey combs. She had a 4yearold daughter and worked as a hairstylist. She was in her car because the truck driver just asked her to move it. The frustration of a mother and a stepmother with a bully at a school in fresno lands them both in jail. After protesting about bullying and getting no results from the School District, they decided to go after the bullies on their own. But it turns out the two moms were arrested for allegedly assaulting two young girls who bullied their son. Their son is also facing charges for helping to start the fight. Monet davis, the Little League world series star thinks the baseball player who posted that derogatory tweet about her should get a second chance. Now, that player, Joey Castleberry was kicked off the team in pennsylvania after calling monet davis an offensive name on social media. Well, yesterday, monet said she wrote a letter to the school, asking the school to reinstate castleberry. She told espn she thinks everybody makes mistake and said, i know people get tired of seeing me on tv. The School District said they are standing by the decision to kick him off the team but applauded monet davis for her level of maturity. She does seem older than her years. Yes. Once you get on the bridge, it is nice coming into San Francisco. If you get into the Livermore Valley, the traffic is slow from the altamont pass, slow. 680 southbound, an accident. And then marin county, we talked about that earlier how good it was, maybe some were someone heard me because people are driving to san rafael and 80 from hercules down to the berkeley area. In fact, from pin nome and hercules area pin knoll to hercules area pinole and hercules area. Most of it is stop and go. Sal, i didnt hear what you said. Well, there was a very nice sunrise at the bay bridge toll plaza. I thought you would like it. I do. I was busy, as you know. We do get a beautiful sunrise here. Still cloudy to mostly cloudy and theres some rain to the north and its trying there it is. Thats what sal was touching on. A lot of cloud cover but no rain yet. Although its been raining up in Mendocino County, parts of lake county and some of that looks like it might get close northern sonoma, napa county. Temperatures were average. Theyve been above for the longest time. Yesterday they settled into average. Today well bump them up. Santa rosa should be 65, 68 today. San francisco 62. Well go 66. Normal high this time of year. Oakland airport 64. Up 3 to 67. San jose to 70 degrees. Speaking of san jose, forecast high low 75, 52. Average is 67, 47. Records, though, very impressive. The record low 30 in 1894. Ukiah has had. 10 of rain. Willits,. 30 and so some people are getting decent run. Thats about the cutoff into lake county. But finally things are picking up as well. If if you are in that area, you are gonna get some rain. Anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain up there. For us, its the cloud cover looking at that line. You can see right about clearlake. After that, i drew a line from santa rosa to calistoga north. I think thats the line for rain. After that, cloud cover continues to roll in. Well get a partly cloudy to mostly cloudy day. 50s on the temps. Sfo says 57 degrees. 51 at santa rosa. 52 in livermore and san jose down to 51. The water temps are very warm. Bodega bay 55. 57 monterey and they should be in the upper 40s or low 50s. West at 13 and travis. Thats the only ways i could find. 30s up in the mountains. 40s, 50s to 60s in the state. 39 south lake tahoe. Blue canyon at 38. They finally cooled down a little bit. They were running in the 50 at couple of days ago. 50s a couple of days ago. Theres enough here to get a lot of cloud cover in. Occasionally right there but you can see where the bulk of it is, its heading north. Clouds and sun. More sun to the south. More clouds to the north. Rain to the north. Mild to muggy if you get some of that sun, temperatures might feel warmer than the forecast temps, 60s, a lot of cloud cover up in the north bay. New solar panels at the sacramento airport that could save 15 million in energy costs but the reason some people worry, they could also cause bird strikes. 7 24. It looked like a disaster at san jose airport. But this was really a staged exercise to test how the airport and First Responders would handle an emergency. The scenario, a boeing 767 striking a flock of birds while taking off. Volunteers during yesterdays exercise pretended to be injured. The faa requires airports to conduct these fullscale disaster drills once every three years. 7 25. There is a new plan to add solar panels at Sacramento International airport but its causing some major concerns. Its a plan that would save the airport about 15 million in energy costs over 20 years. But some people are concerned the panels will actually attract birds and that could pose danger to planes. Airport Officials Say people shouldnt worry about the solar panels attracting birds. Solar panels will look like water to them. Theres all sorts of water around here. Anything that goes under has to go through analysis. These panels will be installed at the station between the runways and the solars could be up and running sometime next year. Gas prices keep dropping. But Airline Tickets are still sky high and that has many people asking why. Oil prices have dropped by more than 50 over the last year, yet plane tickets have not dropped at all even though fuel is the biggest expense. Theres little hope things will get better for consumers because mergers over the last several years have left the nation with four main airlines. Delta, united southwest, and american u. S. Airways. Experts say with the four airlines only most of the route, its unlikely prices will come down any time soon. We continue to follow breaking news out of france, about a passenger jet crash. You can see a mostly cloudy pattern. Had some pretty steady rain in parts of Mendocino County all night and good rain on the north coast. Thats a good thing. Mostly cloudy. Cool to mild lows. Clouds and sun, more sun to the south. More clouds to the north. Some light rain. Northern sonoma county, maybe northern napa county would be the southern extent of it. Sure is coming down out there. Crescent city, eureka, arkay arcata. A lot of this will stay to the north. Dip into santa rosa or calistoga north but i think thats about the line. We had 40s for a while. But the cloud cover were getting it later here. You can see some of that rain solt north but for us, too far south. Well get a lot of cloud cover over us. Clouds, more sun to the south. More rain to the north and more clouds. Mild to muggy to the south but kind of cool to the north if you have that cloud cover and some of that rain. 60s, low 70s. A pretty good warmup on the extended. Well get to that in ten minutes. All right, sal. Whats new . A new crash, highway 4 westbound. Well start there. Westbound highway 4 at somersville road. There is a crash reported with a motorcyclist down and the Fire Department is on the way. The traffic is going to be busy. The motorcyclist is down on the left lane. And now they are moving to the shoulder. It sounds like its somewhat good news because that motorcyclist apparently is being up and walking around. But the fire and medics are arriving on the scene and the traffic is going to be slow. Moving along to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see traffic backed up to the macarthur maze. 15 to 20minute delay there. No major problems. I do want to mention traffic will be busy. Traffic is but i up to the valley. 101 and 85 are getting slow. Back to the desk. All right. Were still following a developing story for you from San Francisco where an inmate escaped and sheriffs deputies right now are searching for him. Alex savidge is live at the hall of justice and you found out about a mistake deputies made that could have led to that inmate escaping, alex. Reporter well, good morning to you. That inmate ran off while the deputy was escorting him to take out the trash at the hall of justice. Sources tell ktvu because this man was being held on federal drug and weapon charges, he should have the no been allowed to do that kind of should not have been allowed to do that kind of work while in custody. Here is a look hat the man on the run this morning. 26yearold alexander santiago gonzalez, about 56, weighs about 180 pounds. He escaped from the hall of justice last night at around 8 45. He apparently took off his orange jail jump suit after getting away. He was last seen wearing only his boxer shorts. Authorities say a deputy was escorting him to the basement to take out the crash when the inmate took off running down the alleyway. The deputy did chase after him but could not catch up to him. Santiago gonzalez was being held by u. S. Marshals on Drug Trafficking and weapons charges. The u. S. Marshals have been notified about his escape. Other Police Departments have also been told as well and obviously authorities are asking the public to keep an eye for him as well. If you spot him, call 911. By the way, this is not the first tifrt theyve had a similar escape at the hall of justice. It was last june when another inmate ran away and was later captured at a nearby homeless shelter. We continue to follow the breaking news out of france where an extensive search and rescue operation is underway after a commercial jet crashed this morning. The germanwings jet took off from barcelona, heading to dusseldorf. Pam cook joins us from the newsroom where shes been monitoring the latest updates were getting more information. Were getting a lot of new information. There was a News Conference it just wrapped up. It was announced there that the wreckage has been found. But it is in a remote part of the french alps. There is a huge staging area right now at the base of the mountains where emergency crews are standing by. But at this point, they do not expect to have any survivors from this plane crash. The crash site of the lufthansa plane was been located by French Military helicopter. Again, it is in a remote part of the mountains. The other new piece of information coming in, is there was no verbal communication between the cockpit and the Ground Control before this crash. But we do understand there was some sort of may day signal sent. Now, were also learning more about the history of this type of plane. It was an airbus 320. Its being called a work horse of passenger jet, similar to the beau 73 to the boeingen 37. Its used to connect cities usually one to five hours apart by plane. They have a good safety record. Lufthansa has been ranked one of the Top Ten Airlines for safety in the world. At the press conference, it was revealed that the last major check of this plane in particular was back in 2013. Now, lufthansas ceo posted a message that says, we do not know what happened to the flight. My deepest sympathy goes to the family and friends of our passengers and crew. The flight was en route from bars lena, spain to dusseldorf, germany. Officials are assembling to provide help to relatives and friends to passengers who are rushing to the airport after hearing news of the crash. Were also learning more about the pilot and passengers on the plane. A lot of questions being asked at that press conference about possible families, possibly a school group on board that plane. But were learning some more and well have an update in the next hour of hour of mornings on 2. Pack here at home, a San Francisco back here at home, a San Francisco preschool will be back in session for the first time today since a teacher was killed in a rockslide at Point Reyes National seashore. 58yearold nancy bloom taught at say sara preschool. The school was closed so the clish and faculty so the children and faculty could mourn. She was hiking when the cliff collapsed. The National Park service says a crack in the land was discovered on wednesday. Warning signs were posted but the hikers still had access to the trail. Point reyes officials are standing by the decision to keep the trail open. They said they couldnt have known it would end in such a tragedy. The Golden State Warriors can clinch their First Pacific division tighting in nearly 40 years with a win tonight. They beat the Washington Wizards 10776 last night while honoring the franchises only west coast team from 1975. Well tell you a little bit more about the east bay commute when we come back. And there is a line of rain to the north but its mild and muggy for everyone else, especially Santa Clara Valley. Well see if any of that rain can make it south. President obama meets with afghanistan anew president at the white house afghanistans new president at the white house. The president has been meeting with john kerry and other top officials at camp david. He also visited the pentagon and thanked u. S. Troops for their service in his country. The president has requested the u. S. Slow down the withdrawal of the remaining 10,000 troops in afghanistan. Thats expected to be part of the discussions with president obama today. Israel is denying a report that it spied on the negotiations over Irans Nuclear Program Involving the u. S. And other world powers. The wall street journal says israel obtained confidential information about the negotiations as part of an effort by israeli Prime Minister netanyahu to build opposition to any deal. The u. S. Reportedly learned about the alleged spying through intercepted Israeli Communications. But israeli Officials Say they got the information about the negotiations from other sources and not from spying. San jose leaders struggled for years to come up with money to fund police and basic services. There always seems to be a budget shortfall. But this coming fiscal year is different. In fact, theres money to spend. Janine de la vega joins us live from san jose to talk about what the mayor wants to do with some of this surplus money. Kind of a nice situation to be in, janine. Reporter yeah, it is. Today the mayor will be meeting with the city council to talk about the proposed budget. And this year, as you mentioned, the city does have a surplus, a small surplus of 8. 6 million. Now, in the past when the city has surveyed people, the same issue comes up. People want to spend money on Public Safety. And mayor sam liccardo agrees. He is saying that his top priority is Public Safety. He wants to boost Police Department staffing. He wants to resolve the legal fight between the police union and the measure pension reforms. He wants to set aside funding for 26 new Community Service officers and to pay overtime for patrol officers. Theres money earmarked for body cameras for police. We ended up speaking with locals this morning and many of them tell us that they are concerned. Now, other plans include providing money for Affordable Housing that would help the homeless and keeping libraries open six days a week. Theres also funding in the proposed budget for fireworks for a 4th of july celebration. Now, lets go to an interview that we did with somebody this morning on how they talked about they talked about how Public Safety was a concern for them and how they really want money spent on more officers. You want good people you have to give them good pay. Thats the only way to do it. Otherwise they will be going somewhere else and you will be losing good talent. Reporter under the plan, san jose roads would get some attention. A recent report shows they are in desperate need of maintenance and repair and the mayor is proposing a tax measure on the 2016 ballot to help pay for that. Again, there are a lot of issues that they are gonna look at. The mayor is gonna be meeting with the city council at 1 30. Theres also going to be a public hearing at 7 00. Apples in Southern California are beinvestigated after a woman claimed she found needles inside two apples in a grocery. This was at the albertsons score in fallbrook on march 16th. Authorities checked but they didnt find any suspicious activity. Two Companies Including one based and headquartered in the bay area, are recalling products because of a possible listeria contamination in spinach. Amys kitchen recalled almost 74,000 cases of frozen entrees that contained spinach. The recall is covering 19 different products. Grocery store chain wegmans also recalled the 12ounce bag of frozen organic spinach. So far, no one has been said have said they were sick from eating the spinach. She helped get her classmates off that school bus after it slammed into a house. This happened in bluebell, pennsylvania. Nine students were on the bus from kindergarten age up to the 8th grade. Witnesses say after the bus crashed, one of the girls opened the back door on the bus and told everybody to get off. One little boy suffered a bloody nose. People were in the house at the time. But no one was hurt. Still not clear why the bus crashed but one witness says the driver may have blarked out blarked out. A woman in arizona who spent more than two decades on death row for the murder of her 4yearold son has been formally cleared. Yesterday, a judge dismissed all charges against debra milke. Prosecutors say back in 1989, her son, christopher, was dressed in his best outfit and was told he was going to see santa clause with his mothers roommate. Instead, the man took him to the desert and shot him. The detectives accused milke of conspiracy to commit murder saying she no longer wanted to take care of her child. That was based entirely on a confix she allegedly gave to a detective who was later determined to have a history of misconduct. They are supposed to conduct a search of the home any minute dusting for fingerprints that sort of thick and gathering more evidence. We continue to follow breaking news out of france, where a passenger jet en route from barcelona, spain to dusseldorf, germany crashed in a remort part of the french alps. Moments ago we learned a helicopter has managed to land near the place where that plane went down. So far no survivors have been found. Frances president does not think they will find anyone alive. Families of the passengers are arriving at the dusseldorf airport in germany as well as the airport in barcelona. At both locations they are being escorted to a private area. Heres what we know so far 150 people were on board the plane including two babies. Officials believe that 67 of the people on board were german. It was in the air for about about 48 minutes and crashed near the ski area in the french alps. Kind of close to the swiss border. 65 miles north of nice. The crash site is in a remote area which makes search and rescue efforts challenging. Weve heard the weather was deteriorating. Weve learned a helicopter was able to land near the crash site. A News Conference wrapped up about 30 minutes ago. Officials say they are working hard to figure out what caused the plane to go down. The plane that crashed has a good safety history. It had a routine inspection yesterday but had not had a major check since 2013. The pilot controlling the plane had more than ten years experience. We know the plane had reached its cruising altitude but then went into a long descent before it crashed. Investigators still dont know what went wrong. And frances last major commercial plane happened in 2000. 109 people were killed in that crash. Well have the latest developments at ktvu. You know what they tell us, any time you deal with a car fire, there are electrical components, theres also fuel. This is a pretty remote part of baypoint as well. Trying to get here was also a challenge. Behind me is the insurance auto auction car lot off the 2700 block of women low pass road. The fire has been out for women low pass road. The fire has been out for sometime. I want to go to video after the fire started. Firefighters from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection district responded. Overall, they say about 25 cars were damaged. Many of these cars typically go out for auction to the public. Firefighters, though, mentioned they had challenges putting out the fire. These vehicles have a lot of plastics, rubber, fuel testimonies systems. The fires can burn intensely. Its kind of difficult to access this lot. This is far off the road. It took quite a bill to put the fire out and to do the overall to make sure it was fully out. That fire investigator is here on scene figuring out exactly what started this fire. He tells ktvu that remains unclear. But they are looking at several factors whether somebody broke into the lot tried to start a car. Firefighters say there is a lot of homeless encampments nearby. Well, some relief this morning in antioch after a man suspected of trying to abduct a High School Girl was arrested by police. The man reportedly tried to take the girl about 9 30 yesterday morning on sagebrush drive near deer valley high school. The suspect identified by police, devan allen. The 16yearold was walking to school when the man drove up and tried to get her to get in his car. She walked away. A short time later, he got out and tried to grab her. She ran. The school alerted parents. And then after that another girl came forward with an experience sim laugh last month. Police found allen not far from the school and he was arrested. The Richmond City council will consider placing a moratorium on rent increases. About 40 commune tip members who Community Members who support this plan to be at meeting. Cal osha is investigating a tragic accident in martinez where a graving truck tipped over and crushed a woman inside a car. The big rig filled with 20 tons of gravel was parked along shell avenue when it toppled over yesterday. It landed on a car parked in a driveway, killing a 32yearold woman inside. Neighbors say they called 911 and ran over to help as soon as they saw what happened. It was terrible. It was like metal on metal scraping really loud and men yelling, oh, my god. Oh, my god. One of the workers thats working on the side of the street was trying to dig her out of the car and a few people were standing around shaking their heads. Shes identified as lindsey combs. She had a 4yearold daughter and bork worked worked as a hairstylist. She was in the car because the trucker just asked her to move it. Police officers say 24yearold alice brown was shot after she fled police in a stolen car, smashed into other cars and buildings and endangered lives. Even trying to run down Police Officers. However, critics say the police should not have used deadly force. Police chief greg suhr told the crowd officers only use their guns after brown repeatedly ignored orders to stop. The suspect continued gunning the vehicle and trying to get it back into drive or into a gear to move it forward, at which point both officers discharged their firearms, fearing that she might keep going during a crowded day. Chief suhr said brown had two felony rnt whats for her arrest warrants for her arrest. Meantime, a different San Francisco Police Shooting was the focus of this protest outside of the Mission District station. Protesters marked the First Anniversary of the shooting death of 28yearold alex nieto. Police officers say officers responded to reports of a man acting erratically and she was shot after the taser she was holding was mistaken for a handgun. The four Police Officers were involved were cleared of wrong doing but the protesters are demanding a federal investigation. The frustration of a mother and a stepmother with a bully at a school in fresno landed both of them behind bars. After protesting and getting no results, the two women decided to go after the bullies of their 12yearold son on their own. The two men were the two women were arrested. New this morning, the investigation into that plane crash in the french alps, everyone on board is presumed to be dead. Pam cook has been keeping an eye on the information coming in from europe. Youve got an update from our newsroom. Yeah, news an updates continue to come in from the command center thats been set up at the base of the mountains in the french alps. Germanwings says that plane went into a long descent that lasted about eight minutes. The crash site has been located by a French Military helicopter. That highlighter has reportedly been able to land near the crash site which is being described as a huge debris field with the biggest piece about the size of a small car. There are reports that 16 german students and two teachers were booked on that flight. But the official manifest has not been released. The french president has kong firned that there confirmed there were 144 passengers, two babies and six crew members on board the plane and that most of the people were from germany and spain. Was thafling from spain to was traveling from spain to germany. There was a distress signal sent out. But they say there was no verbal from the cockpit and Ground Control before the crash. Were also learning more about the type of plane that went down. The airbus 320. Its described by aviation experts as an incredibly safe plane used around the world. This flight was operated by germanwings which is owned by lufthansa which is ranked one of the top airlines for safety and the company says the pilot has more than 10 years of flight experience. There is a lot of talk about weather, regarding weather the plane went down. Weve been told that frenched a germen accident investigators are heading to the crash site at this moment. So well have updates throughout the day. Thank you. 8 33. Meantime, we have an update on that developing story in San Francisco weve been telling you about. Still at this point, no sign of an escaped inmate. Alex savidge has been following the search all morning and says the inmate may have escaped because of a mistake at the jail. Well, that inmate ran off while a deputy was escorting him to take out the trash last night here at the hall of justice. But sources say because this man was being held on federal charge, he shouldnt have been allowed to do that kind of work while in custody. He put into a call for a comment on the escape. Here is a look at the man on the run. 26yearold alexander santiago gonzalez. About 56, 180 pounds, he escaped from the hall of justice at about 8 45 last night. He apparently took off his orange jail jump suit after getting away and he was last seen wearing only his boxer shorts. Now, Authorities Say a deputy was escorting him to the basement to take out the trash when the inmate took off running down the alley. The deputy chased after him but could not catch up to him. He was being held by u. S. Marshals on Drug Trafficking and weapons charges and the u. S. Marshals have been notified about his escape, so have other neighboring Police Department as well. She was hiking with her boyfriend on saturday near arch rock when the cliff suddenly gave way causing her to fall about 60 feet. The National Park service says the crack in the land was first discovered on wednesday, warning signs were posted but hikers still had access to the trail. Ellen powell is suing menlo Park Investment company, Kleiner Perkins for 16 million in lost wages. She says the company promoted male partners over equally qualified women. Now, over the weekend, the judge in the case issued a ruling that would allow powell to seek punitive damages which could possibly go as high as 144 million. In San Francisco, new privately operated buses are sparking a heated debate. People in the Marina District where the first buses are operating stay hiders standing in line for the shuttles are blocking their driveways. Many have decided to use the bus service instead of muni because they say it cuts their commute time in half. As you mentioned, there is a small Budget Surplus, 8. 6 million and on the top of mayor sam liccardos list is Public Safety, retaining and hiring Police Officers. Were joined by mayor sam liccardo right now. I know part of the plan, you talk about, you want to hire 26 additional Community Service officers. You want to maybe invest in buying bodyworn cameras force the Police Officers. One of the big issues is resolving this issue between the police union and getting them to stay in the department. How do you plan on doing that . Well, a Critical Path moving forward is negotiations. Tomorrow well beginning negotiations. Im certainly happy that our Public Safety unions are sitting down with us along with our employee groups starting tomorrow and were gonna hopefully reach a compromise very quickly that will enable us to move forward. Reporter will money from the budget be going toward that . We have allocated funding to increase compensation. We know thats an issue. And so were focused on doing what we can to better retain officers and expand the number of officers in this coming year. Reporter okay. And now besides Public Safety and the Police Officers, one of a few of the other issues is investing in homeless and street improvements. Talk to me about what you hope to be spending money on. We know that safety has a lot of dimensions, we know that there are a lot of issues that folks are encounter now. Were focused on investments on in the future, everything from expanding Library Hours to six days a week to investing in teen jobs along with private sector partners to provide our teen a pathway to build a resume rather than a rap sheet.
