Yeah, Santa Rosa Police have actually cordoned off the section of the parking lot here at Kaiser Permanente off bicentennial way. There is a body lying next to the silver truck. Sheriffs pulled it over after hearing there was armed men inside, possibly after a Home Invasion robbery. Around 2 00 this morning, a standoff. Joining me live is Sergeant John creeken. I understand they were lobbing tear gas inside to try to get the men out. What happened, a group of deputies were following up on a Home Invasion. Deputies located a truck here. They initiated the traffic stop. The occupants of the vehicle refused to come out after a tense standoff that occurred. There was suspected armed men inside. Sheriff deputies deployed less lethal gas inside the vehicle and that broke out the windows. As a result of the less lethal gas, the subjects exited the vehicle. One subject had critical gunshot wounds and another subject that was deceased in the back seats of the vehicle. The driver was uninjured and taken into custody as we still seek to determine his role in this. Initially he said i didnt know the guys. I was helping them out by giving them a ride. There is possibly a connection. Our Violent Crimes unit is interviewing him and multiple witnesses. Well soon have more information. I understand where the Home Invasion robbery occurred, there were women and children present. Yes. We got a call in the Early Morning hours. There was a male in his i believe its his wife there. It was a female. Two young children. They were awoken in the Early Morning hours of the sign of someone i trying to break someone trying to break into the front door. Gunshots were exchanged back and forth. At least two of the suspects were injured. One of them killed. I know you will keep us updated as the new information keeps coming out. Over the weekend, a video released by the terror group al that bob called for attacks al that baub called for attacks. Dash. They also rescued six people from a large outrigger canoe that started to take on water in the bay just off crissy field yesterday. Rescuers say in that case, the people stayed the right thing by staying with the boat and stayed together and in the end, they were okay. The Contra Costa Times says the district may impose fines or even criminal penalties for people who steal water from fire hydrants or thieves who pry open water meters. A lot of people called 911 complaining about dialing problems. The people whose phone numbers start with the 415 area code, you have to dial one, then 415, even if you call someone else with the 415 area code. Some of the people in San Francisco who didnt know about the change on saturday, they called 911 when they couldnt reach other city departments. The deputy hospitalized in georgia after he and the sheriff were shot in an ambush during a deadly domestic dispute. Investigators say the gunman was an expolice officer and he allegedly killed his wife and another man. The sheriff and his deputy went to the home last night near clarksville, georgia and found a woman dead in the garage. When they went inside the home, they were shot. They made entry into the residence to see if there were other people inside. Upon making entry, it appears they were ambushed. The gunman got away but was later found dead. Authorities have not said how he died or who the other man was. The deputy shot is expected to survive and the sheriff was treated and released. It now costs even more money to go to disneyland. Some of the packup is beginning to leak out to the eastshore freeway. Lets show you the east shore from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. Its taking 49 minutes. Thats because the traffic is very slow as you drive from hercules to richmond all the way down. Were having a bad monday on 80s you a drive as you drive west. Back to the desk. A developing story from the a south bay. A suspicious fire started in a movie parking lot theater in campbell. Several cars burned. Janine de la vega is joining us live at the scene. I know you are talking to investigators. What are they telling you . Well, the investigator told me, yes, this is arson. You can see them behind me. They have been using a sledgehammer and all sorts of tools to literally rip apart this car. Theyve been looking at the burn patterns on all three of the cars. All three fires started in the interiors of the cars. A neighbor did show us some video he was able to capture it on on his of all three. The sounds woke him up at 4 20. Firefighters rushed to the scene in the parking lot near winchester and bud avenue. Firefighters put on the the flames and pre put out the flames and found the gas tank was taken off and put under one vehicle and there were jumper cable cables near there. In the middle of the night, i woke up to hearing gunshots or something banging outside and i heard three horns going off. I looked out the window and the blazes were coming up like someone set all of the cars on fire. Thats so unusual over here. Reporter at least two of the car owners know that their cars were involved. One lived in anapartment complex. The other car owner was visiting. The arson investigator is spending a lot of time collecting evidence out here. Right now, its just unknown if something was trying to steal gas, if they were trying to steal a car. Again, theres been numerous car fires near the campbell and san jose border. At least in one of those cases, there was somebody arrested. In another case, there were three car fires that happened in late november, that suspect is still at large. I did ask the investigator if he thinks those are investigated and hes saying at this point no. Well stay on top of this and see if the owner of it is the red car. So far they havent been able to come out here yet. We can see how active the investigation is. Thank you. 7 35. New this morning were getting word from Vallejo Police of an officerinvolved shooting. Police say officers tried to stop a stolen honda about 11 20 last night. The driver failed to stop a few blocks awatch the driver began accelerating in reverse toward the officers. Thats when police opened fire on the man hit several times. He was taken to the hospital. Police say 23yearold Jerald Robert brown faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon. A man has been arrested for stealing money from a girl scout who was selling cookies. Now, San Jose Police say cody gibbs stole a money box with 600 in it from a 10yearold girl who was selling cookies along with other girls outside of the safeway on branham lane. The girls wrote down the suspects license plate number and they called the police. The Police Tracked him down and return the money. The officers bought cookies to raise money for the cause. There are safety concerns in sunnyvale about an intersection where two people were hit over the weekend. One of them was killed. The other is in critical condition. This happened at fair oaks avenue and wolfe road. Police say two women were crossing the street when they were hit by a ford focus. Now, its not clear who had the rightofway. The people we will talked to say that intersection is very busy, very confusing and more needs to be done to keep people safe. Crazy street. They needed to put a lot of things up there. I dont know. Its just the way the street goes like that. The driver involved did stay there at the scene and is cooperating. If you have any information, call the police in sunnyvale, this was the seak deadly accident in second deadly accident in slar over the weekend. On saturday, a food truck vendor died in san jose. He was hit by a drunk driver while he was out selling food. Shoppers are planning ong hitting the malls being washed about a Terror Threat involving a group affiliated with al qaeda. Not only is the group hoping to instill fear but some officials believe in is more of a recruitment tool than anything. But the bay area connection has to do with west shield shopping locations. Here in the bay area, the locations are westfield, San Francisco in San Francisco, Valley Fair Mall in santa clara and the oakridge mall in san jose. Theres no specific credible threat to these locations but the video mentioned the westfield malls and other ones throughout america. Over the weekend, it calls for attacks on shopping malls in the u. S. , canada and britain. We already mentioned they talked about westfield malls but they talked about attacking the mall in Alberta Canada and the mall america in minneapolis. Mall officials have increased security. Alshabaab is blamed for the attack in kane you why two years ago in kenya two years ago that killed 65 people. Were beyond the phase now where these groups would tend foreign foreign operatives. Again, intelligence officials dont believe there is any specific, credible threat but they are taking it very seriously. Some believe the video mentions the minneapolis area because of its Large Population of somalis to try to recruit them. Concord Police Arrested a woman on dui and child endangerment charges after she crashed and rolled her car with a child inside. She was driving on treat boulevard yesterday when when she lost control. The car rolled over twice and landed on the roof. A young girl inside the car was rushed to the hospital. Shes in stage condition. The woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Witnesses originally told investigators this was a hit andrun crash. But police say it doesnt look like any other car was involved. Almost two dozen families in walnut creek have been told to pack up their homes and hand in their keys. The families are being evicted from a group of older homes. So a developer can build a new highend apartment complex called the landing. The news of this death in germany is obviously terrible. But according to the cdc, measles kill 17 people each hour of the day worldwide. Im curious after the outbreak in disneyland, are sue hing an uptick of people seeing an uptick of people getting the measles every day . Reporter we know 154 people have been diagnosed. This includes 104 in california. When as weve looked at this current outbreak and we look at other outbreaks, we see that two things have been happening. One is that globally theres been an uptick in measles cases. The second, we have growing pockets in the United States of people not immunized. Those pockets present an opportunity for measles to have a foothold in the United States and to spread. Thats what were seeing today. A lot of that foothold, includes people people who say they dont trust the government, they are skeptical of medicine and feel the vaccines themselves are dangerous. How do you respond to them . Reporter well, i want to be clear that the vast majority of parents are vaccinating their parent. We have about 92 of the people who get the vaccine nationally. The challenges we have, where the rate of vaccinations are lower. Even when you look at the percentage of parents who dont vaccinate their kids, most are not doing so because they have strong beliefs geld vaccines, most are doing so because they worry about the pain the vaccine may cause their child when they get the injection. Some are worried about a temporary fever or rash. Others have not seen piece unless a while and wonder if its important. But what im here to tell you, we have a lot of experience with the measles vaccine in the United States. Weve been using it for over 50 years. Its been studied numerous times. What we know for all of that science and all of that experience, is that the measles vac seen is both safe and effective and vaccine is both safe and effective and the best way to protect your child from the measles. More of a normal commute but a lot of slow traffic here on highway 4 and then on 80 westbound, you will see some slow traffic in hercules all the way down to the berkeley area. You can see how slow it is. 48minute drive time here as you drive on 80 westbound between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze. In santa rosa it a Home Invasion robbery led to a tense stand joch with officers standoff with officers. Tara moriarty is live with new information surrounding the home that was targeted. Yes, weve now learned that the home targeted was actually a marijuana growhouse and the victim says that he was there with his wife and two small children when the thieves started to bust down the door. Now one of the thieves is lying dead at the Kaiser Permanente parking lot. Around 00 this morning, police say 2 00 this morning, police lobbed tear gas into the truck parked here. Authorities knew the suspects had been shot. An alert deputy feared they might try to hit an area hospital. The suspects refused to come out of the truck for a half an hour. Thats when the deputies deplied the less lethal gas. The suspects eventually exited the vehicle. One subject had critical gunshot wound. Another subject was located deceased in the back seat of the vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was taken into custody and hes being interviewed to determine his involvement in this crime. Reporter an hour before, about two miles away near the park, police say the trio tried to rob a marijuana growhouse. But the homeowner armed himself with a healthcare and a gun battle took place. The homeowner and his family were not hurt. Police say the homeowner did act in selfdefense. But officers are waiting on a tarnt search warrant so he can on a search warrant so he could face charges on the grow house. All three men are in their late 20s to early 30s. Back to you. The gusts will be strong in the north bay mountains and the east bay hills. The chp is telling drivers to be extra cautious. One commuter said he will hang on tight on his motorcycle. Were still paying about 80 cents a gallon less than we did this time last year. 8 08. East bay municipal utility district is considering taking tougher action against people who steal water. According to the Contra Costa Times, the district used to to opt for education. But now because of the drought, the district is considering fines or criminal penalties for people who take water from hydrants or who pry open meters. Contra costa officials raised the fine from 5 to 250. There was some confusion over the weekend about San Francisco and marins new 628 area doed after it code after it was cole rolled out. You have to dial 1, then 415, even if you call someone else with a 415 area code. Some of the people in San Francisco who didnt know about the change on saturday, were calling 911 when they couldnt reach other departments. Ive been talking to fire investigators for hours. What do you know now . Reporter well, the fire investigator is still out here. Hes been collecting evidence. One of the owners of the red car that you see here just showed up. She was on her way to work. One of her friends texted her and told her that she saw her car on the news. So now shes on the phone talking to the insurance company. The arson investigator told her what happened. Now he is studying all three of these cars nothing appears to have been stolen from inside. At this point, its unclear what the motive is for the arsonist other than somebody wanting to start a fire. A neighbor showed us video. The sound of the air bags exploding woke him up at 4 20 this morning. Firefighters rushed to the scene in the theater parking lot near winchester and bud avenue. They put on the put out the flames and prevented it from discover rich the gas cap was taken off a car and found under another vehicle. Jumper cables with found under the car. The owner said they werent hers. Neighbors say all of the commotion woke them up. We heard an explosion, looked out the windows and some of the stars started to cars started to go up in flames. Watched if it for a bit watched it for a bit. My car was fine. Went back to bed. Not the best of neighborhoods. Reporter two live in the nearby apartment complex. The other was visiting. Arson investigators say all three fires started in each of the interiors of the cars. That means it didnt start in one car and spread. All three cars had fire set. Its unknown if somebody was trying to steal gas or the cars. There was a series of car fires determined to be arson late last year but the investigator says he does not believe they were related to the ones that they are related to the ones that happened this morning. Theres one of the victims of the car fire. Shes taking out anything that she was able to salvage in that car. She said the only thing that was of value was an embroidery she was taking for her grandmother but again, shes just sort of sad and reporting it to insurance and still in shock. Brian flores has more from the newsroom and how the bay area could be effected. Some officials believe in is more of a recruitment tool than anything. But the bay area connection has to to with westfield shopping malls. Somebody the video alludes to. Here in the bay area, there are three locations where the malls are located, San Francisco, santa clara and san jose. No specific credible threat to these locations but the video did mention again, west field mall and others brommy comment. And from mall security to the federal government, they say they take these threats seriously. Over the weekend, a video released calls for attacks on the u. S. , canada and britain malls. They talked about westfield malls but they talked about attacking a mall in ail berta, canada and in london. And in minneapolis, the mall of america. Mall officials have increased security and its very safe. 0 however, shoppers we spoke to are very nervous. Im scared. I have two little ones. Coming here today i was like, i dont know. Now, alshabab is blamed for the deadly attack in kenya mall attack that killed 65 people. The call for action shows their intention for recruitment. You have groups publicly calling for independent actors in their homelands to carry out attacks. Intelligence officials dont believe theres any specific credible threat but they are taking it very seriously. Some experts believe the video mentioned in an effort efeffort to recruit there. Back to you. Thank you. 8 37. Were getting word from Vallejo Police of an officerinvolved shooting. Police say officers tried to stop a stolen honda near may fear and lassen streets around 11 20 last night. The driver failed to stop. A few blocks away. The driver began accelerating in resers toward the officers. Thats when police opened fire on the man who was hit several times. He was taken to the hospital. Police say the man 23yearold Jerald Robert brown served prison time for trying to hit vallejo officers with a car in 2012 and was out on parole. There are safety concerns in sunnyvale at an intersan bernardino where two people were hit over the weekend. One of them was killed. The other is in critical condition. This this all happened at fair oaks avenue and wolfe road. Police say two women were crossing the street when they were hit by a ford focus. Its not clear who had the rightofway but people we talked to say that intersection is very busy, very confusing and more needs to be done to keep people safe. Thats crazy street. They need to put a lot of things up there. I dont know. The street goes like that. Now, the driver involved did stay at the scene and is cooperating. If you have any information, kuehl police. This was the second call police. That was the second deadly accident over the weekend. On saturday, a food truck vendor died in san jose, he was hit by a drunk driver while selling food. A man has been arrested for stealing money from a girl scout who was selling cookies. Police say cody gins stole a money box with 600 in it from a 10yearold selling cookies outside of the Safeway Store on branham lane. The girls wrote down his license plate number and called police. Police tracked them down and rushed the box of money and the officers bought cookies. Two San Francisco Police Officers convicted in a Corruption Scandal, they may find out their fate today. Pam cook says the other 28 west coast ports are back to work and shes here to explain why its still tense in oakland. It definitely is. Even though a deal was reached on friday, there is seems to be an ongoing dispute between the union and the port operator. Just as dock workers were trying to clear the backlog of cargo containers, things came to a halt as shipping companies and longshoreman argued over taking breaks but this is not happening at the other ports the big concern now if the problems kent only at oakland continue only at oakland, shipping companies will document will look for other ports. Its been like three weeks already. A lot of these loads are from two weeks ago. If they are fed up, they may decide permanently to move away from oakland and then jobs here in oakland are at risk. This report came out less than a week after that derailment in West Virginia. One that forced two towns to convict. It warns that more than 200 trains carrying crude oil could derail in the u. S. Over the next 20 yees. The report also says that could cause 4. 5 billion damage. If a major accident happened in a heavily populated area, more than 200 people could die. Last november we reported on concerns about crude shipments in the bay area. At that time, the state office of Emergency Services says california needs more realtime information on when and where these crude trains are traveling. We should be able to know about that volatile shipments. The West Virginia train that derailed, it was one of the few tanker cars that are above the federal safety standards. 27 of those cars derailed. 20 of them caught fire. Well, the east bay municipal utility district, they are thinking about even tougher action against people who are out there stealing water. According to the Contra Costa Times, they are considering adopting fines or even criminal penalties for people who steal water from fire hydrants or pry open meters.
