For the most part were okay when if comes to the bay bridge commute, its slow as it normally is getting into San Francisco. You will see traffic backed up for a 25minute delay before you make it into the city. 880 were still recovering although the recovery has gone well. Lanes are open. Southbound 880 at hegenberger. Looks like everything is back to normal. Northbound traffic also doing well, i should say. I was already ahead of myself because 580 is very slow in the livermore valley. Slow up to dublin. A lot of people out there. 680 slow from the dublin interchange all the way down to about highway 84. There was a crash there as well. Its off to a rough start in that part of the bay. Now its 7 03. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. This morning, thousands of people are mourning the loss of an east bay rapper known as the jakka. Reporter already this morning weve seen a number of numbers, they have been dropping by this sidewalk memorial on 94th avenue and macarthur. This is where he was gunned. Friends say he was a humble despite all of his success. Reporter he was well known in the bay area community. He first got his start back in the 90s with a band that made it to analbum and his real name was domonic newton. 37, the shooting happened after 8 00 last night. You can see the area blocked off with crime scene tape by Oakland Police as investigators gathered evidence in and around a minivan sitting in the street with its doors still open. This does not appear to have been a drive by according to police. Detectives are not sure who exactly the target was here. One of newtons friends said he rushed outside when he heard gunfire. I was in the house. I heard gunshots. Came outside. He was laying there. Tried to help him. Its hard to say. Its hard to say. Reporter on social media, fans along with fellow rappers and deejays are all paying tribute using the hashtag ripjakka. There is a 20,000 reward, crimestoppers award that can lead to an arrest in this case. This is the memorial of the scene of last nights deadly shooting. Weve already seen a number of fans dropping by already. Friends dropping by as well. We expect this memorial will likely grow as we move throughout the day. Well check back for an update. Thank you. 7 05. Residents are back in a san jose assisted living home after an earlymorning fire forced them to evacuate. It started on donahue drive in the eastern part of the city just before 4 00 a. M. Officials say it started as a car fire and then spread to the garage. Thats when a caretaker for some disabled residents was woken up by his neighbor. My roommate came running through the house and said, we gotta get out. The neighbor says the fire your car is on fire. All i needed was a pair of pants and the door. Fire crews were able to control the fire before it spread to the home. One car was damaged. San francisco is urging residents to take precautions. A fouralarm fire broke out and then two other cars broke out. The cause of the fires are still being investigated. Firefighters say all three firefighters could have been prevented. Firefighters say never leave food sit ing on the sitting on the stove and candles burning and dont disconnect smoke detectors. By this time next year, san leandro will have an armored ambulance. The City Council Approved buy it despite pretty loud objections from some in the community. Critics say its designed for the military, not a civilian police force. They say its an ambulance. As we know, it we dont want to fear the police is going to come with tear gas and rubber bullets and attack us. Thats what that vehicle represents to us. Officers the ballistic protection so that we can get firefighters and get paramedics, provide first aid treatment to someone injured immediately. Now, the city of oakland and other cities, they have similiar vehicles but this will be the first in the bay area that would give medical workers a place to safely treat somebody seriously injured at the scene of an emergency. The money to pay for this unit comes from a federal grant. Coming up on 7 08. More than 90 people have been infected with measles statewide. Here in the bay area, there are more than a dozen cases. Now Berkeley Health officials are calling for action. Tara moriarty joins us live from berkeley to tell us what they are asking parents to do. Tara . Reporter we also want to mention that Orange County has been the hardest hit in the state of california with 28 cases of measles. Now, here in berkeley, Health Officials are asking all parents to get their children vaccinated if they havent because if the measles were to pop up in the classroom, any child who havent been vaccinated would have to be home for 21 days. Thats the incubation period for measles. The same would go, the same story in marin county schools. Now, measles is highly contagious. You have a 90 chance of getting it if someone in your home has it. One man said he thinks everyone should be vaccinated for the greater good. What happened to, you know, brotherly love and all of that we gotta take we either hang together or we die separately. There must be some other way to implement precautionary measures without ostracizing children. Reporter measles is an airborne virus. It can linger in the air for two hours. It can lead to severe complications, including hospitalization and death. But we know that an advisory was sent out to marin county clinicians last week alerting doctors to be on the lookout for the disease. Were hoping to speak with Health Officials in Alameda County. Experts say about every surface you can think of carries germs that can make you sick. Atms can expose you to 1200 germs per key. Another study found that cell phones carries more germs than a toilet handlele. Even your purse or briefcase continue with bacteria. One study found all bags tested were contaminated. The best advice, wash your hands frequently with warm soap and water for 20 seconds, theat singing the happy birthday song twice. But keep in mind, soap dispensers are carry a lot of germs. Those, too. A former radio shack employee charged with stealing nude photos off a customers cell phone. Jose morando was in court but did not enter a plea. A woman in San Francisco said she took her phone to the store to fix a cracked screen. In january, while using ter tablet, she discovered more than a dozen photos had been texted to an unfamiliar number. The woman also filed a civil lawsuit against the man and radio shock. The man admitted to stealing the photos. Five people were rescued over a sinking sailboat that was built amid controversy. This is coast guard video. This is about 120 miles off the coast of monterey. The coast guard said someone on that catamaran named the flying hawaiian set off an emergency beacon. Five people were picked up by helicopters and taken to shore. The builder of the flying hawaiian faces several legal and financial problems, before launch, the boat in san rafael in 2013. Susan schneiderwilliams claims Robin Williamss Adult Children have removed personal property from the tiburon home she shared with williams. She said they removed jewelry, clothing, toys and memorabilia just days after their father died including his Academy Award and some other trophies. The williams children say they only took what their father warranted warranted warrant wanted them to have. Suge knight is due in court. He killed one man and injured another with his truck last week in Southern California. It happened after an argument on a movie set. Suges lawyer says his client was being assaulted at the time and he ran over those men while tries to escape. The Los Angeles County District Attorney says this case would be a third strike for suge knight. 7 15. A wedding between mass murderer Charles Manson and his 26year old fiance looks like it might not happen soon after all. Their wedding license expires on thursday but prison Officials Say this past weekend was the last chance to hold a weekend because that was the last scheduling visiting hours before thursday. If they want to get married still, they have to register for another marriage license. Manson was convicted of killing seven people. A man who says hes a friend of mansons fiancee said shes planning to get a new wedding license. Closing arguments in the black market say called silk road could begin today. Prosecutors in new york city have rested their case against ross albrich in San Francisco. Hes accused of masterminding silk road. Prosecutors say he paid to solicit the murders of six people he felt were threatening them but say theres no evidence murders occur. Albrich said he was framed and hadder over the company. He did not testify at his trial. Google may be getting into the ride sharing business. Google will unveil its own ride hailing service. That will put in direct competition with uber and google was an early investor in uber. And the Services Smartphone applications for drivers and riders are based on google maps. Googles chief legal officer and a member of the board has reportedly informed usualer of googles plans. Its believed googles plans for entering the ride sharing business are in conjunction with its driverless car project. Now, on the flip side, uber may be looking to compete with google in the driverless car industry. The company says it is investing in a new lab in pittsburgh, pennsylvania to study Driverless Cars and mapping technology. The driver is in partnership with Carnegie Mellon university. The traffic is going to be a little bit slow on 680 as you head south. This morning, at the bay bridge toll plaza, it is backed up for a 25 to 30minute delay and no major issues coming through. Traffic will be busy as you drive through the city. Weve had slow traffic not caused by a lot of crashes, just a lot of slowing on all of the major highways. Now, it is 7 19. How a backlog at west coast ports is putting a cork in a supply chain. The spca in Solano County is taking care of 100 dogs rescued from a single home. They belong to a woman breeding dogs for 40 years. She had a good reputation until her health began to fail. She was facing eviction and the spca said the dogs had to be taken somewhere or they would be put down. The spca said the dogs are in need of pretty significant care. Some will be ready for adoption as early as this weekend. 7 26. The labor dispute at west coast ports is hurting large and small businesses. Now some are considering very expensive workarounds. A major distributor of cork bottle stoppers, they cant get to 17 shipping containers filled with supplies because of the slowdown. Now, the company is trying to have those supplies dropped off at ports on the east coast and on the gulf coast and then have them delivered by truck all the way to napa. That would cost them 12,000 a load but they say its worth it. For us, were here to were here to service. If not, done. They may have to have future supplies flown in. I dont really like seeing a lot of the stopped traffic. A lot of times its moving better that than this than this. This is a 30minute delay and you need to plan for the extra time. Were looking at a commute on the san mateo bridge thats busy as well. Its not really a great alternate route. It will be slow when you get over there. We look at san jose. I want to show you the red sensors. 85, 280, 101 all slow traffic. Remember, tuesday is the its the busiest traffic day of the week. You probably already knew that. Today is not letting us down if you are looking forward to that. But who is . 7 33. Back to the desk. San Francisco Police are busy searching for suspects in the series of unrelated but still very scary homeinvasion robberies. The latest one was just last night. Some of these robberies the victims were beaten while their homes were ransacked. Brian flores joining us live at the headquarters. You have more details about the robberies. Reporter i do. Very scary for the victims involved. San Francisco Police very busy over the weekend. Going into this morning trying to find the criminals who did. The latest invasion happened after 8 00 last night on irvine street in the visitacion valley. Police say a person who had a gun entered and forced two of the People Living there to the ground. While this was happening, police say four other people went through the home and ransacked it. Police say the People Living there were not hurt. The robbers got away with a firearm. This was the scene last friday, our crew was on the scene of farelon. Police say the victim let a woman into her home after she asked to use the restroom. Moments later, the suspect pulled a knife out, put a blank kit over her head. Told her to sit down the another man entered soon after. The police say the roners got away with robbers got away with cash, jewelry and cell phones. The victim was hit in the head during the robbery but shes doing okay. This is a map of the other two robberies, 7 30 in the Diamond Heights area. Reportedly, the robbers force bli entered the home forcing their way and another Home Invasion on sunday, 5 30 a. M. Off buchanan street in the lower haight neighborhood. The chronicle says the victim, a woman, was reportedly punched in the stomach and her mouth taped up by the robbers who got away with cash. Police dont believe the cases are connected. But certainly very scary for the victims in this case. Police are asking any witnesses or anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward. All right. Thank you. 7 35. Alameda county sheriffs deputies still searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting an 8yearold girl in a 99 cent store in hayward. Take a look at these surveillance photos released by the sheriffs defense. They say a man attacked a girl inside the store. The girls mother was shoching in another shopping no another aisle when this occurred. She was playing in the toy aisle. A man approached her and forced his hand down her pants. Investigators are worried this may not be the first time hes done this. The Sheriffs Department is warning everyone with kids, keep a close eye on them. If you see or recognize the suspect, call them. 7 36. Polititians are taking side in the debate over vaccination. Last night, Hillary Clinton stated her views on twitter. She said, the science is clear. The earth is round, the sky is blue and vaccines work. Lets protect all of our kids and added the hashtag grandmothersknowbest. Shes considered the early frontrunner for the democratic nomination in 2016. This comes after two likely republican president ial candidates, chris chris tie and rand paul both said they support parents having a choice on vaccinations. Rand paul, who is a doctor, said im not antivaccine at all, but most of them ought to be voluntary. He added that parents should have input. Governor christie made similar remarks in britain while touring a factory that makes vaccines. I understand that parents need to have a measure in choice. Thats the battle the government has to decide. 7 37. Here on mornings on 2 and theres growing concern about a popular plaza in San Franciscos Castro District. Some say its become a magnet for bad behavior. Now, we were out there when police were called to break up a fight between a home lets couple at market and castro street. Police ended up arresting a woman on charges of domestic violence. But some of the neighbors say things like this they are happening more often. They say other problems include dangerous dogs, drug dealing and litter. Otherwise its an unfortunate waste of space. Its a great spot. It was a Gathering Spot. That was kind of transitioned. Theres a lot of people that arent homeless that come out here, garbage everything, like after they are done with the bars and they are drunk and come out here and throw their trash and the homeless get blamed for it. There was a Community Meeting about this last night about the issue. Some of the ideas were Power Washing and banning people from leaving their commonnings all over the plaza. Today is the deadline for prosecutors to file charges against the man arrested for the dismembered body parts found in a suitcase on a San Francisco police. Police were out there searching for more evidence. The suitcase was found last wednesday near 11th and mission. Police are not ruling outlook the possibility that that person was killed somewhere outside of the city. At this point, weve not located the other missing body parts but are searching for them. On friday, Police Arrested 59yearold mark andres in connection with this case. Hes being held on suspicion of murder. The San Francisco chronicle is reporting investigators are looking into whether the remains are those of a missing man from vallejo who once lived with andres. But the police are not confirming that report. 7 39. College students skipping class is really nothing but but keeping track of them is. Pam cook joins us from the newsroom with the action some colleges are taking to make sure students go to class. Good morning. Electronic monitoring and hidden cameras. Some big name universities want to make shush you go to class make shush you sure you go to to class. Freshmen at the university of arkansas, part of a Pilot Program, they are being monitored electronic. At harvard, researchers filmed classrooms to learn how many students were actually in attendance but the actions have some wondering why the universities care if you are in class and who should get that information. Its gotten so expensive, i think whether its the tax payer or the parent, who is paying the bill should decide. Who pays the bill may want to know if students are in class. But the colleges want to know because any want to advertise good graduation rates. According to the report, more than 4 in 10 fulltime College Students fail to graduate in ticks years. The tour were gonna try out today starts right here at the world famous fishermens wharf sign. Hit play. Well give it a shot. Look across the street to the crab stand. Reporter it gives turn by turn directions using your phones gps to guide you through a neighborhood. It takes you beyond the big attractions. All right. So my tour guide is telling me to make a left right here. There is a secret passageway between these two restaurants here. Push these doors open. Were supposed to go down here to the waterfront. That delay actually, 45 minutes or so. It keeps changing a little bit. But you get the picture. You will see a lot of slow traffic as you drive through. When you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, its backed up for about a 40minute delay as well getting into San Francisco. It has been a pretty tough commute. The south bay has been slow all through the morning from 6 30 on. You can see the traffic is very slow on 101, 280 and 85. One of the busiest days weve seen in a while. New this morning residents are back in a san jose assisted living home after an Early Morning fire forced them to evacuate. It started on donahue drive in the eastern part of the city just before 4 00 a. M. Officials say it started as a car fire and then spread to the garage. Go thats when the caretaker was woken up by his neighbor. My room made said, we gotta my roommate said, we gotta get out. At that point, i just needed a pair of pants and the door. Firefighters were able to control the fire before it spread to the home. No one was hurt. One car and the garage were damaged. An effort in one Sonoma County community to rebuild trust between the community and the police is underway. Last night in santa rosa, a task force unveiled the idea of a watchdog during this meeting. The Task Force Wants an Auditors Office to review complaints and the uses of force. That idea is getting mixed reactions. Its truly a shame to not take this opportunity to really say what you believe is needed throughout this whole country. Its a tragedy. Were gonna get something built. And well make it better every single day. 19yearold brock turner is accused of raping an intoxicated and unconscious woman. Two men on bicycles say they saw turner on top of the woman. I think people are not aware of their surroundings. They think were safe. These kids are smart. In the past, stanford students have protested over the way the university handles Sexual Assault cases. You have a 90 chance of getting it if someone in your home has it. Some people in berkeley think the schools plan is too harsh. Others like the idea. I do agree with it. There are a lot of people who do come to public schools. Especially those susceptible to if they are having cancer treatments, its not fair. I mean, not too much for this time of the morning. Its about a 15minute delay before you make it into the city. The peninsula weve had some trouble there. The traffic has been slow as you drive through there. But no major problems on 101 or 280. Southbound 101, is slow out of burlingame as you head down to highway 92. 8 32 back to the desk. Theres been a string of frightening and vine lent Home Invasion robberies in San Francisco. Its making some people nervous and the police are on alert. In some of the robberies, the victims were beaten while their homes were ransacked. Brian flores joining us live in San Francisco. You are at police headquarters. Tell us more about whats happening out there, brian. Reporter hi, dave. I just got an update. They continue to work upon the four separate cases, the Home Invasion robberies and that includes solidifying some of the suspects descriptions in each of these cases. They will have more information when the detectives get in later this morning. They are busy trying to find the cles. The latest one happened after 8 00 p. M. On irdescribe street and wild avenue in San Franciscos visitacion valley. Police say a person who had a gun entered and forced two of the People Living there to the ground. Police say four other people went through the home and ransacked it. The people were not hurt but the robbers got away with a firearm. Now, this was the scene last friday, our crew was there is on 100 block of faral 0. N in the ocean view neighborhood. Police say the woman, the victim, let another woman in the case. But then another man came in, pulled out a knife, pulled a blanket over her head. When we spoke with family members. They got away with jewelry and tools. The victim was hit in the head during the robbery but is doing okay. Want to go no a map to the other want to go to a map to the other robberies. One happened at 7 30 in the Diamond Heights area. Reportedly the robber forced his kay into the home of an 85 yearold man and his wife, forced his wife to pinpoint valuables, cash and smartphones. Another suspect went away trove abe way in the victims home and away in the victims home and then another one on bu can on sunday in the lower haight neighborhood. The victim, a woman in this days, was reportedly punched in the stomach. Her mouth taped up by the robbers who got away with cash. That was placed in a closet. Now, at this point, police do not believe, again, that these Home Invasion robberies are connected. They are working to get suspect descriptions out there. Hopefully well have those later. If there are witnesses that saw or heard anything, you are urged to call San Francisco police. The investigation goes on. Thank you. 8 34. Meantime, today is the deadline for San Francisco prosecutors to file charges against a man who was arrested in connection with those those dismembered body parts found in a suitcase on a San Francisco street. Police were out there searching for more evidence. The suitcase was found last wednesday outside of a goodwill store. Police are not ruling out the possibility the person was killed outside of the city. Weve not located the other missing body parts but are actively searching for them. On friday, Police Arrested 59yearold mark andres in connection with this case. Hes being held on suspicion of murder. The San Francisco chronicle reports investigators are looking into whether the remains are those of a missing man from vallejo who used to live with andres. But police have not confirmed report. Alameda county sheriffs deputies are searching for a man suspected of sexually assaulting an 8yearold girl sign id of a 99 cent store in hayward. The sheriff Avenue Department released this surveillance photo. Investigators say the man attacked the girl sunday afternoon at a 99 cent store in unincorporated hayward. The girls mother was shopping in another while when it happened. While she was playing in the toy aisle, a man approached her and forced his hand down her pants. Investigators are worried this may not be the first time this man has done this. Sheriffs department is warning everyone with kids, keep a close eye on them. And if you see or recognize the suspect call them. 8 36. There is growing concern about a popular plaza in San Franciscos Castro District. Some say its become a magnet for bad behavior. We were there when police were called to break up a fight between a homeless couple on on the corner of market and castro street. Neighbors say scenarios like this are becoming more common. They say other problems include dangerous dogs, drug dealing and litter. Otherwise, its an unfortunate waste of space. Its a great spot. I think it was once a Gathering Spot and now its kind of transitioned. There is a lot of people that arent homeless that come out here garbage, after they are done with the bars and they are drunk and they come out and throw their trash and the homeless gets blamed for it. There was a Community Meeting last night. Some of the issues discussed were Power Washing and prohibiting people from leaving their belongings on the landscapes. Today San Jose City Council Members will consider a five year plan to end homelessness in santa clara county. According to san joseindied. Com, the san joseinside. Com, they are aiming to house 6,000 Homeless People by 2020. They want to develop ways to house the homeless, securing enough funding and developing a specific plan for each person. One of the goals for the coming year is to identify unused public land to convert into housing. Developing news coming in from france. New reports, three soldiers were attacked by a man with a knife. French police Union Official says the three soldiers were on an antiterror patrol today in the Southern City of nice when they were attacked. At this point, we dont know their condition. The attacker was detained but two people with him got away. France, as you know, as been on high alert has been on high alert since the attacks recently. More than 10,000 soldiers have been deployed all across france. Back here at home, skipping class hand college is nothing new on a campus. It may soon be a thing of the past. The peninsula traffic on 101 has been slow all the way down into san jose and the Santa Clara Valley a late start and 17 by the way is quietly having a terrible day as it turns into 880 and getting up past the San Jose International airport. 580 is has improved as you drive from livermore to dublin.
