Lets look at Storm Tracker too. Well look at where the showers are falling. Lets start in the south bay. Overin the Santa Cruz Mountains as well. You can see a few scattered showers stretching into the south bay a few light showers in your neighborhood, areas like freemont and union city, this will continue through the earlymorning hours. We have fog out there as well. Visibility is down to a quarter mile in some areas. Take it easy if you have an Early Morning drive. Over in the east bay hills. We have it falling overhead for you. Were mainly dry, areas like santa rosa, were reporting pretty good fog this morning. 51 in napa, 56 in redwood city, 54 for novato. 65 for livermore, low 60s in oakland. When i come back ill show you the timeline of this system, when i expect it to clear out when the next round will move in and your weekend numbers coming up. All right new this morning. The weather is causing some problems in parts of the bay area. Check this out. This is a large tree that fell on Petaluma Point raise road on highway 101. This happened at 12 30 this morning. The tree fell on power lines and is blocking that road. In mill valley a tree fell on cascade way and that knocked out power. Pg e says its expected to be restored earlier this morning. The rain overflowed in novato. That caused flooding there. Flooding caused classrooms to close. An inch of rain went into those classrooms earlier in this week. Coast school is a brandnew campus designed not to flood. Well be here with pumps and sandbags and we pretty closely monitor the tide. The rain caused fender benders in the north bay. Theyre reminding drivers to watch the slick roads. Theres been fatalities on highway 101 and highway 24 near oakland. So, chp is responding to those. And theres a sigalert for those of you who might be hitting the roads. There are no delays because of the weather but that could change later today. Yesterday many travellers had to find another way home because of the airlines cancelled more than 100 arrivals and departures. Low clouds forced the airport to reduce the flights that could land there every hour. Flights were delayed for almost three hours. Im hoping someone comes up with removal for flights so you can see the extra and when your flight gets cancelled, it takes to you where you want to go. The faa recommends you check with your airline about potential flight delays. The ski resort was waiting for 3 feet of fresh power, they delayed their opening for several weeks because of the lack of snow, kirkwood is opening today. Theyve seen five inches of new powder in 48 hours. The first run will open at 9 00 this morning. The recent storms have offered north star and heavenly to open up their lifts. Hundreds of people are taking advantage of the slopes. Last year the snowstorm didnt come until later in the season. While weve not received too much snow this season, snowboarders and skiers say the condition is good. Its better coverage than last season and the snow quality is great. Im impressed with the conditions considering how little snow we got. If youre planning on heading up to the sierra to enjoy that snow, make sure you carry chains, snow is expected to fall for several days throughout the week. Businesses in downtown oakland are cleaning up damage after a Third Straight night of protests of the killings from ferguson, missouri and new york city. Last weeks demonstration began with a rally of 300 protestors marching down broadway. Some splintered off and forced two intersections at 880 to be shut down for about a half hour. Were keeping our mind focused on the Bigger Picture for justice what were out here for eric garner and the people who are victims of police violence. Theyve moved it around and gave officers a chance to handle the protests. While weve not received specific numbers, were told that several demonstrators have been arrested. There was a protest in San Francisco, 50 people demonstrated at union square, one shot video of this walk nothing the bart station. There are rallies this afternoon and in berkeley tonight. Theyre expressing their anger by trying to slow down the economy. Slow it down, slow it down. Dozens of people staged a die in in midtown manhattan and prevented the store from selling goods. And they shut down an apple store. An africanamerican who died after a police choke hold said the time will be a the Holiday Season will be a time of mourning. It wont be the same. 200 people have been arrested in new york during those protests, among those being taken into custody were three rabbis and the head of the new york citys union. That program is set to roll out for the rest of the department starting next month. The cameras were purchased through an 85,000 grant. A plan to bring Police Cameras to san jose, the plan was to be moving forward, but it was delayed after chris moore retired last year. Scotts valley you may have light rain and drizzle outside this door. As we get into freemont, 68 0. It will continue. The gray skies and moisture overhead, i suspect we have drizzle in areas that are not being picked up by the radar. It will pay for a trip to washington, d. C. For the 7th and 8th grade students. He did this for many years and he hopes that it will inspire kids to be creative. I enjoy it. Its the purpose to give joy to people. He doesnt know how many legos go into that exhibit, but hes been collecting them for years. In addition to his creations there is going to be a large play area with legos so children can come and build their own lego world. Its open every weekend through january 4th. Its open in san leandro. The patience, and he enjoys it and its for a great cause too. You like to build no matter what age you are. Its fun. The second half of the day the clouds will part and well have sunshine for the afternoon and fog reported in areas and visibility could be down a quarter of a mile and be on your guard, especially on those roadways. Transforming the park takes all year. We start in february, and we have a team of ten people, and the installation in the resort is a threeweek process. They last until january 6th. Hello. Next month, several new attractions based on the movie frozen are coming to disneyland resorts. The attractions include a musical show, a meet and greet with elsa and anna and orloff and disney will have a sneak peek of the attractions on december 20th. It sounds fun. I love disney. A few 100ths reported here. The Santa Cruz Mountains picked up a bit. Now, on to the radar, again were seeing a lit bit of light drizzle out there. The clouds are slowly trying to break up a little bit. Were seeing a few gross of that sunshine, we have santa cruz scattered in showers, in parts of the south bay, well shift in the areas of the south bay, the roads are very damp, very slick, from san jose to morgan hill. For central bay, its not falling from the sky. Again i expect a little drizzle out there, still in addition to fog, in addition to the south bay, im reporting good fog this morning and youll find it spread throughout the bay area. We have high elevation snow, no advisories in the sierra this morning. A windows get into the second half of the da what claudine and i were talking about, we have dry conditions in store for the saturday afternoon, we continue with the dry weather and then late sunday night, the next system rolls in. In a nutshell, it will be dry for the second half of the saturday and all the way into the evening, and this may be ice skating and 59 degrees route now, low 60s sfo, and temperatures relatively mild and its gray and soggy, it will feel cool, 63 for the afternoon, 65 in freemont, 63 in vallejo and napa partly cloudy skies i expect for the second half of the day. Morgan hill youre checking in at 67 and as we get to the extended forecast here the bay area in view, morning showers left dry for the afternoon, were dry most of sunday, im going to say all of our Daylight Hours will be dry. As we get into sunday night, the next round moves in. Monday morning will be a wet one, well leave a chance of scattered showers there, as we get into wednesday, a stronger storm moving in and it could linger into thursday, all good news. New this morning, the weather system that just blew through is causing problems in parts of the bay area. A large tree fell on highway 1 in morin county at 12 30 this morning. The tree fell on power lines and is blocking the road. In mill valley, pg e say as tree fell on cascade way and molino avenue that knocked out power to about 63 customers there. There are problems also on the roadways. A fatal accident from 280 to 101 a few hours ago. We are getting word all lanes are back open. The rain caused problems in the north bay. Drains were overflowing yesterday near the Mobile Home Park in novato that caused flooding there. And cove school had flooded class rooms. It is a grand new campus that was designed not to flood, so that was a business of a surprise. We will be here with pumps and sandbags. We pretty closely monitor the tide. The rain also caused a few fenderbenders in the north bay. Chp is reminding drivers to slow down with the wet roadways. And there are no delays at the airport. Yesterday, however, airlines canceled more than a 100 arrivals and departures because of low clouds reducing the number of flights that could land. Last night flights were delayed for almost three hours. When your flight gets canceled it really is a problem. And fresh powder are reported in parts of the sierra over the past week after delaying the opening for the last several weeks due to the lack of snow. Kirkwood announced it is opening today. Remove, what do they have that makes them able to do that . They are just a constrictor. They dont have any venom. So to be able to fight off an animal with venom, they have ecommunity to the venom so they arent affected acommunity to the venom so they are not affected like us. Immunity to the venom. A hayward man is raising money for a Bay Area School one lego brick at a time. This Winter Wonderland is created out of nothing but legos. That will create delays for bart trains traveling between the coliseum and san leandro. They are scheduling the work for friday, saturday and sunday nights now through february. Water bills for people in alameda and Contra Costa County may be going up. The cities are considering raising rates to buy an Emergency Water supply because of the drought. Officials are recommending a 14 hike, about 4. 33 a month for the average household. The surcharge would cover the costa pumping and water from the river. San jose is taking new steps. Go ahead, claudine. We are talking copper wire theft in the city. The city is doing new things because thieves target the street lights in residential neighborhoods. The city is allocating 500,000 to try to combat the crime by installing metal locking lids to keep the thieves from coming back. We put whole new wire in and two weeks later they come and steal the wire again but now with this door it is slowing things down. The city is dealing aggressively with theft repair. A federal court convicted officers Edmund Robles and sergeant on wire fraud and conspiracy to violate civil rights. Here is a video from 2011 that show plainclothed officers raiding rooms at hotels and stealing money from suspects and gift certificates. There is no place in the San Francisco Police Department or any Police Department for a dishonest cop. They remain out of custody but the sentencing is set for february and march and they could face five to eight years in prison. A lot of people dont know they dont all live in cold climates, right . Yes. Of the 15 species, only three live in cold climates. Wow tell me about their feathers. Yes. It makes them streamlined under water. They can swim up to 30 miles an hour. They are friendly and socialable . Yes. They live in colonies and there is definitely a higher arky. And we will walk around to the other side of the tree. The other animals cant be nest to the penguins. And who is this . This is ky, the sealion. Yes. He is lives up and down the california coast. He is in our summer show throughout the year. He really likes looking at the camera he is kind of a ham . What will he do for us. He is trained to say happy holiday in his own little language . Yes. In sealion language he will say happy holidays. Lets see your trick, ky [making animal noises] that is a little louder than what i was expecting. I like to visit people that go big because it is awesome. There are neighborhood by me in the north bay that you have to put the lights out. It is kind of a contract to move into the neighborhood.
