Im not surprised. Friday fog deepens. It will be clearer coast, bay. Inland will be mild to warm. A lot of systems churning out of the gulf of mexico but they are not coming here. The remains of typhoon nuri moving into the bering sea turning into a whopper of a system. Some of the wave heights in the bering sea will be 50 feet. Theres plenty of cloud cover. Its going up and over the ridge of High Pressure which shows no signs of moving. It weakens and strengthens. We have 40s for some. Half moon bay, 57. There are some areas of fog on the coast and also maybe where you are. Some locations are clear. And then you go across the street and you can find 50s on the temperatures and morgan hill and gilroy. Theres some areas that are down to the south bay up to the north. The fog looks likes it retreats tomorrow and temperatures up we go. So thick fog out there. Be careful. 70s through the inter interior. 60s for many. Sal . Bailey road has reopened. A lot of people were asking about that. This morning that commute is a lot easier. Bailey road and burg was closed because of a power pole that was damaged. It took a few days for them to fix it. Now thats reopened. Lets take a look at 880. Southbound before 66. There was an overturned vehicle in the bushes. Fortunately no serious injuries. They have cleared it away and traffic is recovering. Bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for a 25minute delay. There is a lot of fog, as steve has been mentioning. Southbound 88 in hayward is slow as you drive from 238 san leandro area down to fremont. San mateo bridge is slow as well. They just cleared a stall to the shoulder but its still out there on the bridge, one one of the shoulder areas. 7 03. Back to the desk. All right. Thank you, sal. Happening today, city leaders from san antonio, texas are in the bay area to meet with executives from the Oakland Raiders. They will make a sales pitch to try to lure the silver and black to the lone star state. Ktvus alex savidge is live at raiders headquarters in alameda with more on todays critical meeting involving oaklands nfl franchise. Good morning, alex. Reporter good morning. Raiders fans are hoping the team will reconsider a move to texas but talks seem to be getting serious. We understand a group of Civic Leaders from san antonio will be sitting down to meet with the team owner later on today. This group from san antonio is making a serious play to move that team to texas. The teams lease at the coliseum is set to expire after this year. This will be the second such meeting between the two sides. You may remember back in july, raiders owner, mark davis, visited san antonio. At that time, met with city officials there. According to the san Antonio Express news, the raiders have determined that the alamo dome is an nflready facility. The team has been doing surveys in texas to gauge fan interest in the raiders. We talked this morning with a member of the group, save oakland sports. He wants raiders ownership to remember the teams dedicated fan base here in the east bay with all of this talk of relocation. The silver and black continue to sell out, even though the raiders havent had a lot of success on the field. Our plea would be to mark davis, please consider that, and to understand that the fan base is dedicated to helping him make a new stadium, a world class stadium in oakland a reality. Reporter and there is an important connection that could come into play during all of this. The raiders owner is friends with former san antonio mayor Henry Cisneros and cisneros is the person spearheading the effort to lure the raiders away from oakland. Hes heading up the group that will be here later today. According to one report, cisneros believes san antonio has about a 50 50 chance of getting the raiders to come there. Important to keep in mind, raiders owner, mark davis, says his preference is to keep the team in oakland. He wants to build a new stadium at the current coliseum site. Councilman sam liccardo is moving closer to victory in the race. Dave cortese could concede today. The latest election numbers so liccardo now has 51. 5 of the vote. Cortese has 48. 5 . Liccardos lead has grown slightly over the 2point lead hes held since the results on election net. And the comeback chances continue to dwindle with fewer and fewer ballots to count. In three hours, mike honda plans to make a major abhownsment about his re election campaign. Hes currently seeking an eighth term. He has a slight lead over challenger and democrat, ro khanna. The announcement will be held at hondas reElection Office in newark. The head of Information Technology for santa clara countys Elections Office abruptly resigned on the eve of election day. The mercury news reports its still unclear whether it chief joseph lees surprise res make nation had any impact on the vote counseling tuesday night. Santa clara county was one of the slowest in the state in posting election returns. No word why the longtime county employee decided to quit on the day before tuesdays election. 7 07. There are concerns over plans to expand a landfill at the san Jose Milpitascy line milpitas city line. Neighbor, say the smell is neighbors say the smell is horrible and they cant imagine getting it worse. Tara moriarty has more. Reporter people say on a hot day, it really wreaks. In fact, a viewer emailed me to let me know when he lived here for 14 years that plans to expand the landfill were met with little or no resistance. Neighbors have had enough because they decided to trash the idea of the expansion to the newbie island landfill at a meeting last night. The Company Wants to increase the height of the landfill from 150 feet to 245 feet and increase cubic capacity by 15 million kushic yards. Its an idea that does not sit well with neighbors. Its getting worse by the way, and every subsequent year weve been here, its gotten worse and worse. Im demanding to get rid of that smell, that is the bottom line. Its unfortunate that weve been singled out. There are multiple odor sources out here in and around milpitas. Reporter Republic Services which operates the landfill says that it is in full compliance with the daily cover and odor misting system to neutralize the smell. They say theres no correlation between smell and vertical expansion. But neighbors say the smoke comes from the landfill only not the bay or the san jose Treatment Plant as republic has alleged. The reason because theres have been no executions of death row inmates in eight years. The rules right now in california call for a three drug injection to carry out the death penalty. Experts say thats because paychecks have not increased much for average americans. Now, the top 1 10 of all wage earns have seen their income jump 10 between 2010 and 2013. Two members of the Army National guard were killed last night in idaho in a helicopter crash. It happened during a Training Exercise in boise. We dont yet know the names of the soldier. According to police, a crew member noticed 26yearold benjamin wensle taking vests and putting them on his carry on bag. Police stopped him and he said this was not the first time he had taken floatation devices. He said he took them as a prank or prank gifts. The dumbarton bridge is much better if you are looking for a decent alternate route. I think the dumbarton bridge is much better than this bridge, the san mateo. In fact, i will put it up on the maps. The road sensors are bright red on the san mateo bridge. If you see the dumbarton bridge traffic looks good. Perhaps you are going to the peninsula. Theres now a report that safety fears sank the companys grand plans. The wall street journal says it obtained documents showing that googles contractor abandoned the project after the coast guard repeatedly raised fire safety concerns. Coast guard officials warned about fire hazard presented by having large amounts of fuel on deck at the same time as the large number of people. Google was planning to turn it into a large showroom. He was the first person to be diagnosed with ebola in the united states. She said she didnt realize she had the virus until her temperature spiked days later. Doctors know her young age and her quick helped save her. She said many of her belongings, including her precious engagement were incinerated in the days after she was diagnosed. A little bit of fog continues out there. Im looking at the visible satellite. Theres coastal fog. Theres inland fog. If you dont have the fog, its probably pretty nice. 40s for some. 50s for others. These have come way up a good 10 degrees for some. The fog will get chewed up. It starts to burn off at 9 00. Hazy skies, pockets of thick pog. Some in San Francisco and daly city, parts of the coast. But 60s for some. But 70s. A lot for others. I saw fog on the golden gate there, sal, one of our shots there. Its foggy there and foggy in San Francisco, pacifica, oakland. Its moving around. If you are driving soon, you will see the traffic is going to be clear in some areas or the weather, i should say, and then foggy in others. Bay bridge backed up for 25 minute delay. No problems major on the san mateo bridge. We did have a stalled vehicle out there. The traffic is terrible. I wouldnt go on the san mateo bridge. Its hard to see. The traffic is terrible. Thank you, sal. A man shot by San Francisco police is hospitalized in critical condition. Just before 8 00 last night, three others patrolling the potrero hill neighborhood spotted five men, they say were acting suspiciously. When the officers approached four of them ran away. Police say the one man who remained pulled out a gun. They say he refused an order to drop his weapon forcing the officer to shoot. Ordered the suspect to drop his firearm. He did not comply. That suspect advanced on the officer. Thats when he discharged his firearm multiple times. Striking the swk one time in the upper body. Police say the man shot had been involved in a drugrelated case last month. Four other men were detained and questioned by police. Greg suhr will hold a Community Meeting on the shooting monday night. One person is dead. Another has lifethreatening injuries. Following two shootings in San Francisco that Police Believe are connected. Officers were called to willow and buchanan streets at 8 45 last night. When they arrived, they saw a man on the ground who had been shot. He was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition. Officers learned that another man had earlier gone to the hospital where he later died. Investigators will not say why but they think both men were shot together. We got a call of there was possible fireworks or shots fired. We responded to the scene. One of our officers found one person laying on the ground. There are no suspects at this time. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. 7 34. Well, this week oakland voters chose city councilwoman libby schaaf as their new mayor. And pam cook joins us now with oaklands mayorelect in the studio. Defeated 14 other candidates including oaklands current mayor, jean quan. Shes made Public Safety her top goal but is doing everything fob to keep the pro sports teams in possible to keep the pro sports teams in town. San antonio sending a team to talk to the raiders. You said you smoke with the from the radars dash raiders. He just eit rated what mark davis said all along is staying in oakland is their first priority. Thats what they said. Thats what they are still saying. Todays chronicle is saying that their past mayor is saying 50 50 chance. They are feeling kind of hopeful feeling their teams. They can bring their best effort. But this is oakland. We are a great place to stay. This city is incredible. So im very excited about working very hard to keep our sports teams. Im an oakland native. I grew up with those raiders and as. Im very excited to work with both teams to be sure that that oakland spirit stays alive. What do you think about the coliseum plan thats been talked about . What do you think about that . Its a very ambitious and visionary plan. It makes since that we need to have amenities near the sports stadiums to capture the economic spinoff. Im excited about sitting down with some of the new partners in the plan. But im a numbers girl. I will be crunching the numbers. Im not willing to put public money into a stadium deal but i do want to do everything short of that to make sure that we get some brandnew stadiums here with all of that excitement and Energy Around them like restaurants and retail and hotels. Thats whats gonna really enlivan that part of the city. Im excited. I will have a sharp pencil. Good. I think a lot of people want to hear that. You were saying top priority an issue that fights a reputation of being a crimeridden city. I know your top priority is working on that. What do you think is the most important thing needed . Nothing is more important than delivering safety to the city of oakland. I bring a holistic approach to that. We need more cops on the streets. Oaklanders need to know a cop will come when you call. But we need to do better policing. Data driven, communitybased prison, where officers are forming relationships with people out on the streets in our neighborhoods. We also need to expand our prevention and intervention programs and then address those root causes of crime and for me, thats jobs better wages and better educational outcomes or now children. Oakland is battling the same thing that san jose is battling. Its attracting and keeping officers. What are you planning on doing to make that a better situation . Our Police Officers are looking for some stability in this organization, some clarity, some support. Im excited to really let the Police Officers of oakland know that as long as they perform their job, im gonna be supporting them. What they are doing is the most critical work for the city. I think once we get consistent leadership in city hall, particularly in the administrators as a conwoman, im working with my fifth add mind straighter in less than four years administrator in less than four years. So to have good leadership i think will go a long way to have officers feel this is a city they will keep working here. You grew up here. You were a teenager in oakland. How does it feel . Youre mayor of oakland. All of my ive been in love with my hometown. Graduate of Skyline High School, go, titans. Someone that has been working in the community my whole life. Its just an honor, an honor to have been entrusted with the residents of this city to lead us into our next incredible time here. Oakland is such a special city. Its got this, you know, secret sauce, its got this great dna and im just excited about letting the whole world know about it. Addressing its challenges in an honest and serious way. His landlord says federal agentser is searched his agents searched his apartment for almost eight hours. They were paul around the house. They are just about to open up the doors at sacred heart to start registering these families to receive holiday fod books food boxes. There are 400, 500 people in line. One mother lined up at 4 00 yesterday afternoon. The reason, she cant control how much her rent is, how much her boss pays here but she can make sure shes signed up for help. Thanksgiving is two and a half weeks away, and sacred heart needs 7,000 turkeys. They just have one. They need those and perishable items and toys. The nonprofit has been giving away boxes to needy families for 50 years. The charity is helping 4,000 families for thanksgiving and 3200 for christmas but they have to register to receive the items. Thats why they camped out overnight with blankets and sleeping bags. Families started to line up yesterday afternoon earlier than weve seen it. It really speaks to the greater need in our community and, you know, every year we run out of spots for family. This is thanksgiving and christmas dinners and toys for the kids. This is not something thats out of reach or should be out of reach for people. Reporter many of the people lined up have a member in their family that works but the wages are low. Even though the economy has improved, they are such an economic divide in the bay area with highincome jobs and sky rorblthing rent, that low wage earners are not able to keep up with the bills and everyday needs. Parents worry about affording gifts for their kids. Thats a struggle. I mean, so expensive. They dont any almost toy is so expensive. A chp motorcycle officer is still in the hospital after he was hit by a van during the height of yesterday evenings rush hour. It happened about 5 30 on northbound 680 near the crow canyon road exit in san ramon. The chp says a van and another car may have collided and the driver of the van tried to swerve but hit the chp officer who was in the carpool lane. The crash shut down lanes for several hours causing an enormous backup. At one point traffic was backed up to the 580 interchangege. Thats over five miles. I had to get off the freeway, wanted to get some food. Hoping it would die down but it didnt die down. The chp officer was airlifted to a Trauma Center in walnut creek. Despite serious injuries, hes expected to survive and the investigation continues. In the south bay, many people are complaining this morning about a smell they call unbearable. The growing complaints focus on plans to expand a landfill. Its the newbie landfill in san jose near the milpitas city line. The solid waste Company Wants to expand by increasing the height of the landfill and its overall capacity by 15 million cubic yards. A lot of people say the the smell is already too bad. They want to shut it down. Im demanding to get rid of that smell. Thats the bottom line. Its unfortunate weve been singled out. There are multiple odor sources out here, in and around milpitas. The operators of the landfill say they are in full compliance and have odor systems to help neutralize the snell. This issue is expected to face several rounds of public hearings. And according to the express news, raiders have determined the alamo dome is an nfl ready facility. The team has been doing surveys to gauge fan interest in texas. The group save oakland sport, they want the raiders to remember that the team has a dedicated fan base here in the east bay. A very loyal fan base. With all of this talk about relocation, one raiders fan we talked to this morning has this message for the teams owner. You have 60 years of loyal fans from oakland. Why would you try to change it go to san antonio to a place that texas never had good luck with the raiders. There wont be any fan support there. Gonna be lacking on sales and everything there. Heres sal. Weve been the fog brothers all morning long. Absolutely. The next problem is a crash on 680. It was in the northbound direction. Southbound direction was slowing. Danville. Southbound 680 coming out. This area is slow. If you drive through this area, give yourself extra time. Its usually not this bad, especially on fridays. The bay bridge, the traffic is improving a little bit. Its backed up for a 15, 20 minute delay. Today on 280 in san jose, its better than it used to be. In fact, northbound 280, i think in san jose continues. I think we have that. We dont have that. Okay. Northbound 280 in san jose does look good and 101 in san jose is improving as well. Back to the desk. Breaking news in novato we first told but about 45 minutes ago. There is a big Police Presence at three high schools right now this morning after a threat was posted on social media. Now, the School District sent out these tweets just in the last hour warning students there will be increased security on campus today. Now, police tell us a parent notified them last night about the threat of a possible School Shooting at novato high school. While the initial threat was against novato high school, police decided they were gonna boost security at san ra Min High School and san ra Min High School and San Marin High School and oaks school as well. Ktvu has a crew on the way. Well bring you new details as soon as we get them into the newsroom. Were also following developing news out of los gatos. Roads are shut down in one neighborhood that right now police are investigating the discovery of an injured person early this morning. Tara moriarty is joining us live with the latest on this strange situation. Reporter Los Gatos Police are not releasing much information about whats going on here. But a source close to the investigation says this is a possible blotched bar burglary in which the burglar was injured badly by the homeowner. You can see theyve roped on this entire neighborhood. Were on the corner of drakes bay avenue and national avenue. We did speak to an officer by phone who said around 1 00 in the morning, Police Received a 911 call transferred from chp. The caller said that a person was hurt near his home located inside this neighborhood and that that person needed medical treatment. Meanwhile, police are interviewing the person who placed the 911 call and the street continues to be blocked off together. Los gatos police remaining extremely tightlipped about this investigation. Police think they may be connected. Police were called to willow and buchanan streets about 8 45 last night. When they got there, they saw a man on the ground who had been shot. He was rushed to San Francisco general in critical condition. Police found out another man had earlier gone to the hospital. He later died. Investigators wont say why but they think both men were shot together. We got a call of there was possible fireworks or shots fired. We responded to the scene. One of our officers found one person laying on the ground. Now, as of now, there are no suspects. Homicide investigators have taken over the investigation. A former soccer mom is staging a sitin at an Athletic Field right on the edge of San Franciscos golden gate park. Kathleen mccowen wants to stop or slow down the renovation of the fields that started right after tuesdays election. San francisco voters casted their ballots on a measure that includes replacing grass fields with artificial turf. But mccowen and some others say all of the votes have not been counted. The contractors have jumped the gun. They have already are ripping out the turf as we speak. The latest election totals show proposition i which funds the renovations has a 10 lead. San franciscos rec and parks Department Said they went ahead and started the ren nope vaks rern renovations because they are confident the measure will pass. Hundreds of lowincome families in the south bay are receiving muchneeded help this holiday season. They camped in front of a san jose charity overnight in order to register for a special giveaway. Take a look at all of these people. They are here to register for holiday food boxes. Its been a long morning for them. Some slept here last night with their kids. Again, thanksgiving is two and a half weeks away and Sacred Heart Community service has one turkey right now. They need donations. Of those, as well as parishable food items. The nonprofit has been giving away boxes to needy families for 50 years. The charity is helping 4,000 families for thanksgiving and 3200 for christmas but they have to register to receive those items and thats why they camped out overnight with blankets and sleeping bags. My husband just got laid off his job. He has cancer and i have lupus. Its kind of hard. Its cold out here, but i just come and to make the best of every thanksgiving and christmas. Sacred heard Community Service says even though the economy has improved there is a divide of high income jobs and the skyrocketing rent that low wage earns are not able to keep up with bills and everyday needs. Civic leaders from san antonio will be sitting down to meet with the owner of the raiders here in alameda, we understand, and that city, of course, is trying to lure the raiders away from oakland and get them over to texas here with the lease set to expire at the coliseum at the end of this year. This will be the second such meeting between these two teams. Back in july, you may remember mark davis visited san antonio. He met with city officials there. And according to the san Antonio Express news, the raiders have determined the alamo dome is an nflready facility. The team has been gauging fan interest down in texas doing surveys. But the group save oakland sports, we talked to them and one of their members said they want the raiders to remember the team has a tedcated fan base in the dedicated fan base and want the team to keep that in mind. I think the raiders probably have the greatest fan base perhaps all in sports. The raiders havent had a winning season in 11 years. Theres been right or wrong, almost cause and uncertainty over the teams future. Despite that were still selling out. Reporter its important to keen in mind here mark davis has said his preference is to keep the raiders here in oakland, although he wants to build a new stadium at the current coliseum site for the team. The silver and black, of course, continue to sell out here in oakland even though the team hasnt had a whole lot of success on the field. One fan has this message for the teams owner ahead of todays meeting. You have 60 years of loyal fans from oakland. Why would you try to change it to go to san antonio . The raiders owner is friends with former san antonio mayor, hen rip cisneros and Henry Cisneros and cisneros is the one spear heading this effort trying to lure the raiders to texas. According to one report, cisneros believes that san antonio has a 50 50 shot of getting the raiders. Well have to wait to see how the meeting plays out later today. Im not willing to put public money into a stadium deal but i do want to do everything short of that ta make sure we get some brandnew stadiums here with all of that excitement and Energy Around them. Now, she says adding restaurants, hotels and shops around a new Sports Complex would not only bring vitality to oaklands economy, but would also put people to work which would in turn help fight oaklands biggest problem, crime. Nothing is more important to me than delivering safety to the city of oakland. Yes, we need more kochs on our street cops on our streets. She acknowledges that oakland faces the same problem as san jose in attracting an keeping Police Officers. She says as city councilmember shes working with oaklands fifth city administrator in less than four years. She says getting consistency in that position will go a long way in making the Police Department feel more confident in the city of oakland and a place where officers want to work.
