This conclusion is based on a pair of new studies. One of them was done by the Aaa Foundation for Traffic Safety and the second was conducted at the university of utah. Some of those systems were found to be quite roarprone creating garbled Text Messages or dialing the wrong number and those things can take the focus off the road. Thats dangerous. Researchers analyzed the about the the builtin systems. You can make a call, send a text. Researchers found many of those systems are so complex, they require more concentration from drivers rather than less. One driver we talked to this morning says hes really not surprised by these latest findings. You are looking down at your phone down here. If you had it up here or had to make a quick text. If you are sitting at a stoplight, but when they force you to hide, you know, thats when youre making your mistakes. You are not looking at the road. Reporter there was also a similar study done in the bay area last year and in that case, researchers tracked drivers brain activity and eye movement and found using voice commands is one of the most distracting things you can do on the road. Automakers, of course, have been pitching voice systems as a way to make calls and stay connected while driving but according to this latest research, the technology has a long way to go and these systems in the are still unregulated.
