For abouthours early this morning four hours early this morning, water gushed on key street and key avenue in the Bayview District. Half a dozen homes were flooded and some parked cars may be damaged. Tara moriarty is there to show us exactly what happened. Tara . Reporter were right where the break happened where key avenue turns into key street and you can see crews behind me actually getting ready to dig up the old pipes and putting new pipe in. A cast iron pipe from 1953 burst sending water gushing down the hill. The force of the water coming down key street was so great that it actually ripped the bumper right off of a car. It travelled the length than more than two football fields the water flooding twodozen homes around midnight. It took crews four hours to isolate the break. A massive amount of water was lost for four hours. We tukd one neighbor whos neighbor got flooded flooded out. I feel bad for the other two on the block. Did you see it. It must have happened pretty early in the morning. Officials will be scouring the neighborhood once more to see if the damage is more widespread than first thought. It is possible that more homes were impact taechltd is messy and muddy out here impacted. It is messy and muddy out here. As we come back live you can see that a lot of water is gushing out of the water. The system got so backed up for those hours that they are still relieving the system. They need to get all of the water out and you can see theyre digging, theyre going to get the pipe replaced. We dont know how long exactly this roadway will be blocked off. This one happened just about 2 00 this morning at Pleasant Hill road and taylor boulevard. Police say three women and two men were in that lexus sedan. It crashed into a utility pole. Weve now learned they were all in their late teens or early 20s. All five victims had minor to moderate injuries. Police say the driver was speeding but they dont know and dont believe that alcohol was a factor in that crash. 7 06, Berkley Police are investigating three Sexual Assaults at uc berkley frats. They received two separate reports Sexual Assault last saturday night. The third assault reportedly happened at a frat early that same day this comes on the heels of a federal investigation on the handling of Sexual Assaults on college campuses. Earlier this week, governor jerry brown signed a bill requiring explicit consent between partners. San jose officials have finished investigating the Domestic Violence incident for ray mcdonald. He was arrested over Labor Day Weekend for allegedly causing visible injuries to his fiance. The case is in the hands of the janet clara district attorneys office. The da will review the case and decide whether to file criminal charges or if the case requires more investigation. A spokesman would not comment on when that might happen. In silicone valley there is a huge income gap betweensix figure salaries that the hightech workers make and the wages the Security Guards and shuttle bus drivers who work for the companies that they make. Theyre taking the step toward hiring them and offering benefits. Google is dropping the contract with a Security Company that provided guards. Instead, the tech company will create 200 full and part time Security Guard jobs at all of the Northern California offices. It is a process google began a year ago. The Company Values the services skwurt guards provides. This Security Guards provides. For Security Guards this should mean Better Living wages and health insurance. There have been numerous protests held by the union that represents Security Guards. Theyre upset theyre not taking the initiative to hire them directly and offer them the same benefits offered to tech workers. Google is among the first to change pratt and whether other Companies Follow suit remains to be seen. We reached out to google and the you know dwron get a comment. This month marks 25 years since the earthquake and San Francisco is trying a new approach aimed at keeping the water running after the next major quake. The citys Public Utility Commission will test a brand of earthquake resistant iron pipe from japan. The pipe has special joints that can flex and should allow water mains to move when the ground does. The first test will be at San Francisco general hospital. We thought that was probably the most important facility in the city to make sure that they not only have Fire Protection but they have continuous water supply. The city will spend nearly two and a half Million Dollars to test the pipeline. Installation is expected to start next spring but we wont know if it works until there is another big earthquake in San Francisco. Time is 7 09. The latest effort to save water here in the bay area involves surfers and showers in pacifica. Theyre cutting back on the number of heads at the beaches. Lindemor beach and shark park, the very popular spots for surfers. Pacifica city leaders hope by reducing the number of shower heads will encourage them to take shorter showers and help to save water during the drought. With our bay area heat wave continuing, you heard steve. This should be another busy day at ocean beach. While it might seem tempting, the beach patrol is advising everyone to stay out. Ocean beach has notoriously strong rip currents and for visitors not used to them it can be a matter of life and. The most common cause of swimmer distress, someone needing a rescue is someone who thought they would go into in to their knees, knocked down and get pulled out by a rip current. Last week a father and son were over come by rip currents and drowned. The park service says anyone who doesnt have a surf board or wet suit, youre advised to stay out of the water. 7 11. Two sex offenders could face the Death Penalty after Authorities Say they raped and killed four women all while wearing gps tracking monitors. Frank cano and Steven Gordon were indicted yesterday in santa ana. They linked the pair to the murder after the 4th body was found at a trash sorting plant. Both were wearing the tracking devices because of previous sex crimes. This case has raised questions about the effectiveness of gps devices and other forms of parole super vision. Allegations of longterm abuse are surfacing in the shooting death of a southern mayor. Daniel crespo was arguing with his wife on tuesday when their 19yearold son interveneed the wife, levette crespo grabbed a gun and shot her husband several times after he repeatedly punched their son. The mayor later died at a local hospital. Levette crespos lawyer says there was a long history of abuse before it ended. She has been a victim of Domestic Violence for years. They dont have any records of Domestic Violence in the home. Victims of Domestic Violence are not always ready to pick up the phone and call the police. A lawyer for the couples grown daughter and son say theyre standing behind their mother and grieving for their father. The crespos were High School Sweet hearts and had been married for more than 20 years. Oakland High School Student was arrested for bringing a loaded gun to school. It happened last friday at Oakland High School. School district Officials Say a campus Security Guard saw two students acting suspiciously and when the students were taken to the office, that gun was found in one of their back packs. That student was arrested. The other was released. A grandfather in livermore is training for quite a journey across the sierra in a wheelchair. 59yearold bob cumber hasnt been able to walk for more than 20 years. He was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes in his 20th. That 20s. That led to several medical problems which shattered the bones in his legs. Some people are taking mission boulevard, it 262 exit here. I guess theyre trying to pick it up and make sure there is no debris that will cause more flat tires. We also had slow traffic on 680 through concord and wall mutt creek. 7 33 lets go back to the desk. Police searching for a pair of people who carried out a pair of robberies. One of the victims was shot. Alex savage here to explain what happened. Reporter these were backtoback robberies that happened last night on the elony greenway and as you can see especially during the Morning Hours and afternoon hours, this is a popular commuting path for people who walk and bike. Many of them go to the bart station. In one case, a man was badly beaten and in the other case, a man was shot in the leg during two separate robberies. The same two robbers were responsible for both of the Violent Crimes. They happened around 8 00 last night. Not far from the bart station. Initially, police found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg and he had been shot along key boulevard close to the bart station. That victim then told police what had happened, officers then found a second man nearby who had been beaten. Those two victims dont know each other but both say they were robbed walking along the greenway. Both men are expected to survive. Bheem take the greenway to get to and from the bart station say the latest crimes are certainly concerning. This kind of violent act is bad for the community and individuals. I think the police need to act. Also, we all need to be vigilant. There is an on going issue in the area with robberies. Earlier this the year, el s Police Stepped up patrols. Investigators in oakland looking for the cause of a big fire. The damaged three homes. It started loose night on redding street near interstate 580. The fast moving flames raced from one home to two others. Firefighters had to avoid a downed power line right outside the burning buildings. They also had to take a narrow staircase up four flights just to get to the thus had the most damage. The house that had the most damage. This was a tough firefight going up a steep hill. This is unusual for a firefighter to have to face that. It was almost like a wildfire to attack it up the hill no one was hurt but investigators say within of the houses is a total loss. In vallejo, investigators trying to a identify a body found inside a burned garage. It was in a vacant property. So far we dont know how the person died. Investigators say squatters were recently evicted from the garage but a neighbor saw at least one person go back to the property the night before. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It is considered suspicious. 7 36. Happening today, the lawyer for the family of jahi mcmath heads back to court with evidence he says proves the teen is still alive. Three doctors declared the 13yearold oakland girl brain dead 10 months ago but attorney Christopher Dolan plans to show video of jahi moving her limbs. Theyre hoping to convince the courts to revoke her official death certificate. That would make her family eligible for more benefits from the state. A 19yearold san jose woman is facing charges in connection with a hitandrun near the great mall earlier this week that killed a biker. The crash happened around 6 00 monday night. 19yearold harjea nefk galan drove off. She is facing felony hitandrun and vehicular man slaughter charges. San Jose State UniversityPolice Arrested a campus employee accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in hightech equipment. It was reported missing in march. After a long investigation, 39yearold jose fereas was arrested. 800,000 worth of equipment was stolen. He worked as a Network Analyst in the it department. The nephew of the liberian man with ebola in texas says his uncle is too week to speak on the phone. The woman he was visiting in dallas and her family are quarantined at the apartment. A cleaning crew hired to sanitize the apartment did not have the proper credentials so they were turned a. Reporter the California Department of Public Health will hold a News Conference in sacramento to discuss the states efforts to fight this very serious respiratory illness. There are three confirms cases the enterovirus in the bay area. Two children in Alameda County tested positive for the virus and the third child in Solano County was confirmed to have the virus but did not need to be hospitalized. The virus affects mostly babies and Young Children and those with breathing problems such as asthma are more at risk. Alameda county is not releasing many details about its two cases but the Health Department says enterovirus appears to look like the common cold in the beginning. It is in the polio family though and in extreme cases it can cause paralysis. It can spread through coughing sneezing or tough touch. Doctors are advising parents and children to be vigilant in washing their hands. The Health Department says like the common cold there, violent no specific treatment for an enterovirus infection. Lets go back to the desk. Happening now, repair crews in San Francisco trying to fix a water main that burst overnight. It flooded half a dozen homes and ripped a fender off of a parked car. The busted pipe dates back to the 19950s. Tara moriarty is on the scene now as crews work to replace the line. Good morning. Reporter more than seven hours after this pipe broke, water was still gushing and that is because the system was so backed up that they were pumping water out of the hole where the pipe was. That is actually behind me if you want to take a look. After four hours, they were able to cap the leak. A massive amount of water did get out. You can see the pipe down there, that is an old cast hiern pipe. That is from 1953, joining me live right now is dave brigs. He is the senior water manager. Can you tell us what is going on right now. Good morning. Yeah. As you can see, theyve got the pit excavateed you can see the crack in the pipe. Theyre kunthing the repair conducting the repair right now. It happened around midnight, released water for several hours. It took awhile to isolate the leak based on the valves that were operatable in the area. Do you know how much water . I would estimate a few million gallons were released. And p it went down the street a couple of blocks away. There were several properties that have incidental water damage. Were working with those people down there to make sure theyre okay and i think there are reports that some people need to be put up in a hotel so there may be a couple of people displaced for a couple of nights while we fix everything. It got pretty high, a couple of inches up. And it travelled really far. It was the length of almost two football fields. Easily. 1,000 feet. 18 inches high. 1 or 2 feet easily a bunch of cars also damaged. I was down there a few minutes ago. Some have been towed or moved away. That is all part of the process here of clean up. Well take care of those folks and make sure everyone is taken care of. It seems to happen quite a bit with the old infrastructure. Police say three women and two men were in this lexus sedan. It smashed into a utility pole. Now weve heard theyre all in their late teens or early 20s. All five received minor to moderate injuries. Police say the driver was speeding but they dont believe that alcohol was a factor in this crash. It is 8 04. Berkley police are investigating three Sexual Assaults at uc berkley fraternities. They received two separate reports of Sexual Assaults last saturday night. The third assault reportedly happened at a frat yernt earlier that same day fraternity earlier that same day. This comes after an investigation of Sexual Assaults on college campuses. Governor jerry brown signed a bill requiring explicit consent between partners. Something new from google. The company is putting Security Guards on the pay roll. High kek companies highTech Companies have been criticized for out source aezing the job. We just spoke with a google spokeswoman about what this means. Reporter that spokeswoman told me that the Security Guards who patrol the google campus will now receive the same benefits as google a employees. That wasnt the case before they worked for a Security Company they sub contracted with. Theyre hiring 200 at all of the california offices. This is part of a process when they decided to insource the staff that worked at the security operation center. Google decided to also stop out sourcing the guards who patrol the campus but they will work with the private company that provided the guards through this transition. They value the services Security Guards provide because they want to ensure that the campuses are safe and the employees are well taken care of they will receive competitive wages and benefits. There have been numerous protests by the union that represents Security Guards. Theyve been upset that Tech Companies arent taking the initiative to hire them directly and offer them the same benefits. The park service says ocean beach has dangerous rip currents and for visitors not used to them it can be a matter of life and death. The most common cause of swimmer distress, someone needing a rescue is someone who thought they would just go in to the knees, get knocked down by a wave and pulled out by a rip current. A father and son visiting from the Central Valley were over come by rip currents and they drowned the park service says anyone who doesnt have a surf board or a wet suit, youre advised to stay out of the water. The city of morgan hill is opening two cooling centers today to help people beat the heat. Police are searching for the people who carried out a pair of violent robberies last night right near the el sorito bart station. Alex is joining us live. Reporter a lot of bart riders use the greenway to walk or bike over to the el soritonorte station. There is quite a bit of concern after bake to back robberies in this area along the popular path. One man was badly beaten and another man was shot in the leg. El sorito believe the same two robbers were responsible for both of the Violent Crimes. The robberies happened just around 8 00 last night not far from the bart station. Initially, police found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He had been shot along key boulevard close to the bart station. That vinth told police what happened and then officers came in and then in the area they also found a second man nearby who had been beaten. These two victims do not know each other but both say they were robbed while walking along the greenway. Both men are expected to survive. People who use the greenway is say this is a repiender to stay a reminder to stay alert. Try to a i void the early or avoid the early or late night. If someone is following you, you should turn around somewhere else. There is an on going issue in this area. Earlier in this year, the Police Stepped up patrols along the greenway close to the bart station in response to a series of armed robberies, including one in which the victim was pistol whipped. As far as what happened out here last night, police say theyre looking for two men at least one of them was armed with a gun and they believe those are the two men behind the violent robberies that happened out here last night that have quite a few bart riders and others in the area concerned. It started last night on redding street near interstate 580 in the citys maxwell park neighbor hoochld the fast moving fire quickly raced from one home to two others. Firefighters had to avoid a downed power line right outside the burning buildings. They also had to take a narrow staircase up four flights to get to the home that had the most damage. No one was hurt. In vallejo, investigators are trying to identify a body that was found inside a burned garage. It was on florida and alameda streets yesterday afternoon. It is not known how the person died. Investigators say squatters were recently evicted from the garage but a neighbor saw at least one person return to the property the night before. He says he has evidence to prove the oakland teen is still alive. The three drors declared the 13yearold the three doctors declared the 13yearold dead three months ago. It would help her family eligible for more benefits from the state. The 19yearold san jose woman is facing charges in connection with a hitandrun that happened near the grade mall earlier this week. That killed a bicyclist. It happened on the mont debut expressway at six montague expressway at 6 00. The driver drove off. The car she was driving was later found in the great mall parking lot. She is facing charges that include felony hitandrun and vehicular manslaughter. San Jose State UniversityPolice Arrested a campus employee accused of stealing hundreds of thousan dollarses in hightech nolg equipment. It was reported Miss Technology equipment. It was reported missing in march. Campus police 800,000 worth of equipment was stolen and according to the mercury news, he worked as a Network Analyst in the it department. Police released that photo of the woman who is accused of stealing purses at six different schools. The first one was on september 10th. The latest one was yesterday at olivet elementary school. Are you nervous. Im not nervous at all. Honestly because it gets to a point after going through the process that you just learn to let go of the nerves theyll only get in the way. As we look at the video, they were saying 3,000 people auditioning this whole time. I mean, what was going through your head i was honestly tuning out with my music because you get all of the other Peoples Energy and it makes you nervous. I stayed away from it and avoided it as best as possible. Were only allowed 15 seconds of your wonderful voice this morning to hear because, you know, they have their rules. Sing for fuss you dont mind. She moving onto the next round. Im just saying. I want to talk to ashley. Youre maddies mom. Talk about the process. What does mean for her to be here. I think it will change her whole life. It has been a lot of work getting here but we waited until she was 16 and now she is. This is her chance. Yeah. When did she start singing, when did you know as a parent. At six years old she was in a school play and i said, okay, this is your chance to shine and we were all blown away. She hasnt stopped singing since. What will you be singing. Im going to be singing a beyonce song called resentment. I know, it sounds really depressing. It is actually great. It is a wonderful song. A potentially deadly virus is now here in the bay wlachlt parents need to know about the enterovirus what parents need to know about the enterovirus responsible for making hundreds of children. Were repairing a broken water main that happened in the San FranciscoBayview District causing flooding for four hours. Well show you the damage to at least half a dozen homes. Lets bring you up to date on some of the top stories were following right now. Berkley Police Investigating three Sexual Assaults at uc berkley fraternities. Police say they received two separate reports of Sexual Assaults in the last saturday night the third reportededly happened earlier that same day. Pleasant Hill Police Say four young people, four, are in the hospital after an Early Morning crash. We had earlier reports that five people were hurt. Police say they were in this lexus sedan that crashed into a utility pole. They were all in their late teens or early 20s. All are expected to survive. The cause of the crash is under investigation. At least half a dozen homes in San Francisco were flooded this morning by a big water main break. It sent all of that water rushing down a hill in the Bayview District. Tara moriarty is there. The repair crews are trying to fix that broken line. Reporter there is a trail of mud that goes all the way from where the break happened on carl street which is where were standing. You can see the debris and mud here on the sidewalk. We know that the water gushed down this street. It is carl street. Flooded at least half a dozen. Look at that. Look at. Reporter this is cell phone video from a man who lives on carl street and another neighbor shows us how her basement was completely flooded out. This happened around midnight. The force of the water was so great that it actually tomorrow the bumper sheer off. It took four hours to isolate the break and pinch it off. The culprit, an old cast iron pipe that burst on key avenue where it meets key street. One talked to one home owner whos next door neighbor got flooded out. It was all gushing out. You can see the dirt and everything. It was a mixture of water and dirt. How high did it go . It was getting into the houses. Knee deep in some parts . Yes. Reporter officials are scouring the neighborhood right now to see if the damage is more widespread than first thought. Many cars sustained damage, not only homes, Officials Say it is possible that more homes were impacted very messy out here. Im back here live. The blue jose is coming out of the alleyway next door to the house this the woman that showed us the basement that was completely flooded. Crews will be suctioning the water out of there. There is quite a bit of clean up in the bayview this morning. Live from San Francisco. Ktvu, channel two news. The seriousness of the enterovirus hit home with three cases now here in the bay area. Pam cook is in our newsroom with the actions being taken today. The California Department of Public Health will hold a News Conference in sacramento today to discuss the states efforts to fight this very serious respiratory illness. There are now three confirms cases of the enterovirus here in the bay area. Two children in Alameda County tested positive for the virus. There was also a third child in Solano County who did the not need to be hospitalized. The virus affects mostly babies and those with breathing problems are more at risk. Doctors say although it is a serious illness, they arent any more concerned than any year at this time. When you put into context other illnesses that we see like the flu, this appears to be on the less severe. The Health Department says enterovirus looks like the common cold in the beginning. It is in the polio family. So in extreme cases it can cause paralysis. It can be spread through coughing, sneezing or touch. Doctors once again are advising parents, children, care givers and teachers in particular to be vigilant in watching their hands. As of this week, the cdc confirmed 500 people in 42 states have respiratory illnesses caused by this particular strain of the enterovirus. Well begin in san jose dave and tori with the investigation as we go to mckey road at checkers. Which is in eastern san jose. Mckey road, a car hit a young girl who was struck at the corner. The girl was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Now, the driver of the vehicle did remain on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. San jose police are asking for you to avoid the mckey road at checkers drive until they clear this up. Now, frequent way traffic nearby will be slow but not affected by this crash. Oakland firefighters came to the rescue of two window watchers stranded 200 feet in the air. The flat form got stuck on the outside of a building at 1111 broadway in downtown oakwood yesterday. A large crowd gathered at Davis Intermediate School to mourn the loss of 24yearold richard watkins. He was standing outside helping a relative find a parking spot when he was shot last weekend. Davis intermediate is the school where they practice each week. Bear season already heavy in the Sierra Nevada and it exploded this week. Since wednesday, nine bears were captured near reno and lake tahoe. A 10th bear was hit and killed by a car yesterday. Scientists say the bears are out there searching for food as the drought cuts back on the usual food supplies. Just since the beginning of july, 40 black bears have been caught and released. Just think about it. Last year, 97 bears were captured in the entire year. Rangers expect even more bear reports as the weather kaumz down and the bears get ready to hibernate. 30 people stuck on a ferris wheel at disneys adventure yesterday. It just stopped rotating. The workers were able to manually operate the ride. It took two hours to get everybody safely down to the ground.
