We just lost there he is. O. K. Sorry. Go ahead, daniel. We lo you for a second. Not a problem. Signals not functioning. Use them as an allway stop season. Take a look and go when safe. Major roadway damage. What with are we looking at . Buckling, big cracks . Its all of the above at this time. Some of those locations have buckling as much as one and a half to two feet. Others have several large cracks and separations. Both of those things are going to take quite a bit of time for the county road people to fix up. They also have to address all the other areas. We visually inspected all the mnl bridge in the area but theyre not engineers. Inspection in more detail as they daylight comes into play. Officer hill as weve been talking to you, weve seen pictures of damage, fires. A lot of things happening right now. 911 calls go to our Calvin Benjamin center. Tell us an the traffic there. Obviously, you know, when they want to call nun and let them know whats happening. What would you tell folks . Were asking people to avoid using mafn unless its a life threaten emergency. You can use our nonemergency line and call us at 1800tell chp. Thats our nonemergency license r line. Oui asking people to avoid the napa area if possible. By all means please go if you live there but to see the damage, its not the time. Fire, medical and police and we need to be able to deal with the property damage. Before we specially we need to room to work. Officer, hill, what do you people who were planning on going to the raceway. They said the race will go on. Do you still encourage people that its o. K. We have officers at the stadium that will be talking to the public and spreading the safety message. So please come out to the raceway if thats where you wanted to be. If you were headed to napa to see the damage that you avoid that area. Are you calling in extra officers and obviously weve talked about mutual aide and pushes resources. The chp is working on an hourbyhour agency. Every hour. So we have officers throughout the region. Obviously priorities to make sure we can provide the essential Life Saving Services that we normally provide to the entire bay area while timothy thanks so much for ther very latest information. California Highway Patrol watching the rows and trying to keep things clear. We appreciate the information. Over a Mobile Home Park. In the pap in a area. You can see multiple structures destroyed. A couple of damaged by this fire. That broke out soon after their earthquake hit at 3 20 this morning. Talking about go ahead. I know we lost it again. That picture keeps coming in and out. We talked about the fact they had water issues out there all morning. You can still things are burning. When they lose the pressure, theres some voof the water main breaking at that very location this morning. Theyre kind of stuck in a lot of situations on whad do. We saw a video of them putting a little bit of water from their truck. They bring some with them butt city agencies they depend on the water. When it goes away, then it make manies it very difficult and they go in defensive mode and thats happened there. Before we lost the picture, thats a very large Mobile Home Park though. Theyre kind of on top of each other. I mean, obviously property was lost and damaged, but the fact that that did not spread says a lot about the way was fire was acting or the cruise. They were working oned ground. Theres a picture again. You can see just packed on top of each other theaism could have been a lot worse if that fire spread and they definitely couldnt get water on. I do see a ladder truck down there and someone taking pictures. Hose lines there but definitely no water. You dont see the water spraying. Thats the big difference from the picture. We see damage and we see the fire and we dont see wear. We dont know the water situation there. You cant have the crews as well go straight sot situation. If you had a water main break and weve covered a thousand of them before. Cruise go there and they try to fix them which can be a long process. But then if they all over the city and they have a lot of things theyre responding to, we dont know where this mitts on their list. But thats an issue. Memories of 89. Water on those buildings. Obviously a lot bigger than we saw there. They needed their fire boats to swing out. I did see on twitter someone talking about one want strike teams. They do have there is one in i did a story recently and they have these trucks that are built to carry water with them. That go in and they have these very well e quipped truck. If waters going be an issue, neck send of those up there. But again, when youre talking about earthquake like this and talking about widespread damage and a lot of issues youre talking about spreading the resources out and trying to get them where theyre most needed. That is not the amount of water. A little hose doing the best he can. Talk about some of the other damage too outside of this Mobile Home Park. Alex savage. He can see water gushing from the second story of a building and coming into business on ground level. Theyre dealing with that there. Ktvu irks eric lets go back to baa eric right now. Twhals the laities your asking people to stay out of area. We can only imagine that part of that is there are already a lot of people in this area. Were at brown and third street. Third street opened to traffic and it looks like a busy weekday. Behind me on the other side you see what everybodys coming out. Brick from these Old Buildings has just rained down on the sidewalk here. When this earthquake hit early this morning, you have Old Buildings, may be able to see part of an awning came down. We showed you earlier this morning brick came right down on a car that was parked out here. Theres some significant damage. The old courthouse is nearby here, and it also sustained some significant damage. Right there, a big gaping hole in the top corner of this old court house. A lot of the other Court Functions happen in a newer building but there isyou know, significant damage here to this courthouse that you see here in napa and were hear trg people who just come out on the street to get a look at everything. People are sort of sharing their story about what they felt, what they heard. We talked to a woman was world health doing her job. Two men visiting from chicago and they say this is exactly the type of thing that theyre afraid of. When people from who dont live in california are talking about earthquakes. This was a significant one, and they certainly were shaken up by it. Again, a lot of people out here getting a look at the damage. They have the area l taped off here. Rescue crews and emergency crews are trying to keep people out of this area that would have been affected. Weve been hearing about aftershocks. One maybe an hour or so go. That would be something thats significant. Brick thats already fallen off the top floor. They dont want anybody getting hurt. Again a quick look here at third street. Very busy traffic many a lot of people standing out here trying to get a look at what happened this morning. A lot of work to be doarch. You talked about some folks out there talking about the timing this. 3 20 in the morning and how fortunate they felt they were that the downtown area wasnt packed. Are you still hearing that chatter . Absolutely. I could tell you that from many cooing down here, this is a busy area. A lot of courthouse functions as well as regular business going on. All you have to do is look down the sidewalk. This sidewalk would have some people on. Lrt. It look like we lost eric but a live report from downtown napa. That Old County Courthouse. Thats an impressive picture right. There the chunk out of the corner of the building. Theyre taping things off and trying it keep people out of this area. They want to get people out of that area. Lets go to the newsroom. Dave clark standing by with some information for us. Dave . My focus is on the people whove been hurt. There have been injuries. Several people have been hors p hurt. In napa. News chopper 2 is right there and weve been keeping an yipe the hospital but also a triage. Were not sure yet of the exact number whove been hurt or how badly theyve been hurt through theres triage. John is learning all the details and can tell us more from your adVantage Point. John . Reporter well right now, dave, we are at queen of the valley. It is the premier hospital here in napa. You can see in the triage tent set up. This is a normal routine for any emergency. Theyve seen about 70 or more patients here, most of them with cuts and lacerations according to a hospital spokeswoman. I a woman who said that during the earthquake, she hit her head against the frame of a door. And her glasses actually cut her head. She was only slightly injured and was able to receive some sutures and has left and gone home. The rest of the hospital is also open many the Major Department is continuing to receive patients. They say that they have plenty of beds here and no emergency as far as understaffing or overcrowding. Most of people who have been weave seen here have been ambulatory. Most of the folks here have not been seriously injured. We did hear some radio reports of several people who were hit by falling objects. One man peamptly has a severe head trauma. We have not seen that person or heard of him here today, but expected is expected he would be here if not transported to another hospital in the area. This scene youre seeing now is one of injured just arriving here at the hospital. One of the things that we have noticed as that theres a great deal of calm here. Theres not a lot of panic. People are moving deliberately, and theres a bit of a line of cars for awhile. Its eased off a bit. But theyve seen fairly steady progression of parents. You can see this patient being taken in via wheelchair although that is standard for people with significant injuries at hospital. This is hospital is open for business. And the problems that people will have here are going to be numerous and longlasting. No doubt. There are lots of and lots of people that were probably injured somewhere and theyll be coming here. We heard reports from the paramedic and Emergency Medical Service people that theyre responding routinely to lots and lots of reports of injuries. Medical problems of various sorts. And one breathing problem we heard of and that serious head injury. And thats the latest we know from here. Were expecting an update. When we get that, well bring it to you. Rotting live there outside the qeep of the Valley Medical Center. They are very organized as hi said there. Were an earthquake concern. Most of the hospitals prepare for this. They practice for this and with triage cuts and lacerations. So things looking smooth there outside the hospital. Talking a about that mobile home fire this morning. Some pictures. We now have alex savage with the alex . Reporter yeah, good morning. Were getting an upclose look in the northwest part of the napa. Lets get you a look. As many as a dozen have burned. What i was told were actually two separate fires that robbing out immediately after this earthquake hit at 3 20 this morning. The cause unclear but in all loold the assumption is they were broken gas lines. They triggered this incredible fires. People ran from their homes this morning rmt the debut good we have just heard from the fire captain i spoke with. Nobody was hurt here. It appears as though as even made it out. Really incredible and obviously the fact that you have a earthquake preceding this large fire is really a blessing in disguise. Im joined now by steve becker. Tell me give me a sense what have you found when you first got here. Initially we were not even dispatched to these addresses. We saw the fires in two separate locations. As we were responding to a different call. This become our priority rapidly. Upon arrival the water mane was ruptured out front. No water. Evacuate and accounting for the lives that were present. Removing them from harms way and await farg suppression water to get here in the mote moad of the county. Once they got here, we were able to draw a line in the sand and contain the fires to the involved unit. They did not extend beyond those unit. You were giving me the rundown a. Total of four mobile homes this home. As you always 6 to 8 damaged in varying degrees. Thats from fire damage. Structural damage we have damage throughout the park. Reporter o. K. The challenge was, of course, the fact that you show up and a reptured water line. No water to put on the fire. But you had trucks coming. We Additional Units from the city of napa. Its a combination of those resources. We were able to save a large number of units that without those resources would still be burning. This fire here is at a mobile park here. This is near the intersection of orchard avenue for folks at home. If you want to know where this is exactly. Odd separate mobile home fire that is is close by, just south of here. What damage was tope there. One unit fully involved separate from this. Several park we had another mobile home involves and several other structured working fires thup to this point. Nonstop for you guys. A lot of help from our mutual aid. Do you have a sense of how many people that youre work have been hour. A large number of medical calls this morning. Nonstop since 5 minutes after the earthquake. I cannot give an actually number or to the degree of injuries but i can tell you our dispatch center and incident command staff have been nonstop since the incident dispatching calls which is the radar you hear right now. Thank for taking the time morning. Near intersection of orchard. You can see the steam here. They do have these as many as a dozen mobile homes have burned this morning. Four of theme were destroyed in the fire. The scums is had had a gust and thats what trigger this for the last couple of hours to get it under control. Well of course keep check in with the fire officials. Well have further updates on mornings on 2. Well send it back to you guys in the stawd owe. Certainly thats good information to know that they were two separate fires that were happening there and several fires throughout the city. When you talk about you think about what the firefighter was saying there and the stress that they were going through. They had the fire, they saw that the water main busted. They could not get water on this fire appear so what did they do . They starting evacuate people it. These are live pictures from the down top napa area in. Yes. Now you can see from a live look stay away from that area. You have so many of the part of the building thats sitting on squawk. As you pull really all throughout that street there is more rubble and more debris and that Little Corner part of that roof looking pretty precarious this. This is downtown napa. You can see thats where theyre allowing some people to walk. I assume those are emergency crews. We have the usgs on phone. Brad, youre joining us to give us more insight. Weve heard west napa, more about the fault. What can you tell us about the shaking that woke up this community this morning . Elsbury with the shaking was what wed say but being relatively relative. This was the largest in a since the 25 years ago. The shaking was quite strong near the 40 of the nearly two feet per second. So quite intense shaking concentrated in the napa renal. And this is on the west napa fault . Its near the west napa fault. We cant specify at this point precisely what fall it occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. The location of this earthquake very well but we dont know the geoonly tri of that depp to say it occurred thoon fault. Having it not happen on a tawlt thats been well mapped and well watched and how does that change in terms of what you guys can predict of what happened next and what we can expect coming from this area and under the ground there . Well its a lesson of what fault it occurred on. Mobile map faults in the area. The strike slip the map of those faults. Itsless of a concern it terms of what fault it occurred on what the behavior was. Magnitude strike slipped them this engine. Is consistent of what we know about the faults. Weve seen over 30 aftershocks. One as large as 3 pn 6. This is what weve been matched. So at this point, nothing particularly surprising about the level of shaking or the number of aftershocks but this was a significant earthquake that did cause strong shaking. Thank you for the update. Right there. Looking now at live pictures against from the Mobile Home Park, where four mobile homes were destroyed. Dosens more damaged because of the earthquake there. I believe we have someone on the phone right now. Oh, yeah. The governors off i believe lets two to kelly on phone. Hi, kelly. Good morning. What can you tell us about this situation from your vantage publish . We have since just machines after the earthquake occurred. This is a significant earthquake. Youre seeing the pictures of damage and whats happened. And we determine, you know, theres more damage than we expected. We have members of the state agencies here. The leadership, the governors leader which is the director and the cabinet has already had a Conference Call this morning and talked about the resources that may be needed on a local level because we know the firefighters and Law Enforcement folks are extremely busy. And one of the main messages were telling people right now is one, not to call 911 unless theres a emergency. We are having some issues with, you know, the phone lines and cellular lines overloads. We will have aftershocks t. Thisst a chance 54 of a 5. 0 or greater mag any true attituded earthquake occurring. What that means that if people feel shaking, they need to take tax a, which is to drop, cover and hold on drill. Before that, you should take look in your house an see if theres anything that may cause harm to you. If it falls off the wild or large objects that could come down and injure you because most injuries and earthquakes are caused from falling object. Let me imrupt you. I apologize. How long when you active what you doing are you prepared to kind of stay in this mode . Are we talking throughout the day, to the next week. Certainly its going to take a while to work through all the stuff that oui see glg smg we will be activated for weeks if not months. We work in phases. Right now were looking at the First Responder Emergency Management face, which is getting the right resources in the area. Weve got mutual aid teams from around the bay area into the to help with some of the fires and other things. But then as we get more damage estimates, we will consider whether or not we need to state of emergency, federal assistance and look at how we work with the counties to recover especially in the city of napa where three there seems to be a significant amount of frsk damage. Do you expect him to been o on scene either in the napa area or hes monitoring the activity and speaking with direct to of Emergency Services to determine the extent of whats going on and hell take whatever actions he needs to take based on what we discovered. Had. Following whats happening as far as him going into the area. That has not been announced a in the point. Our focus is on the First Responders on getting the right resources to put out the fire and discover if theres anybody trapped or any injuries we may not have discover that the point. Thank you so much t. Looks like theyll billion needing a lot of happen. We appreciate that update from the Governors Office of the Emergency Services this morning. They are activated at theyve been active and they will will provide help to these local agencies as that help becomes needed, which is already at that point. Yeah many and two message kelly was the cell phone lines are so busy right now. If you dont have to call 91 1, dont call. Also talked about be pave if you do look outside. Aftershocks in the area. 30 to 70 could happen over the next week and they can range in size from 1 to 2s town 4s or 5s possibly. For the moment the ground starting shaking. People starting to tweeting about it. And weve seen a steady stream of folks doing that this morning. Rosemarry monitoring that situation on us how social media is reacting to this earthquake. Youre right. And, of course, pictures help to tell the story. Take a look at this. Came in a few hours ago. I just escaped the napa earthquake. Everything fell around me. And not on me. So you take a look at this photo. It looks like his bedroom. And it look like empg just fell around him. Im guesting this probably his bed. So although very unlucky. I cant imagine being woken up by this. Thank you for the tweet. This one from david silver. All the bottles on the floor. I dont know if this is his home or maybe a small store but a lot of damage there. One more here from trev and this is is the safe way in American Canyon. Results from the a lot of wine bottles on the floor. Some very pricey. This is definitely the liquor aisle of the safeway. A lot of damage there. Still left, you know, o to clean up and who knows how much well see. Of course these pictures help us tell the story. Tweet us well continue to post these. Thanks. Impressive picture right there. You have to think wine country. We saw wine bottles but also pictures on twitter also of the barrels. Yeah. Knocked over. Nose are a lot of heavier but barrels knocked over. Im sure all the owners and folks are in there checking it out. We want to remind people that the police are asking people to avoid the area. Theyre seeing major roadway damage on 21, 29 and old in one case the officer was saying they were seeing one and a half foot cracks in the roadway. That obviously was they always have to check that out. Trying to make some reerps so people can get through there. Thats something to keep in mind if youre going to the area. Lets go back to the newsroom. Dave with the latest. Were still pulling things together. Evacuation centers have been set up at Napa High School. Theyre now evacuations center. Were keeping an eye on the queen of the Valley Medical Center which is treating several people for injuries. Were waiting from an official update on how many people have been hurt and the extefnt injuries. We saw john foul it seems to with relatively calm even though the Triage Center is set upoutside. It seemed to be relatively calm. Emergency room is open t. Does not appear to have been damaged severely in any way but were keeping an eye and waiting for the official update on the number of people being treated for injuries. You always heard alex salvage. He was at the scene of mobile homes. As many as 12 mobile homes were damaged by fire in the American Canyon area. Again, that is coming here. Were hearing from you and on twitter and on face bookletting us know what it like where you are and when that quake hit. We have a slide show showing photos and some of the damage around the area. Check it out. You can see things for yourself but we also want to hear from you continually. I heard people from San Francisco. All over the bay area. They felt just like i did. It woke me up and we to heard well bring the update on those whon treated for injuries as soon as we can get that. Live in the news room. Back to you guys in the studio. Thanks, dave for the very latest on injuries. We want to update you on some more information. You know, it was centered in American Canyon or near American Canyon but fell throughout evens doing a check. No report of damage and injuries there. People felt it burling ham. Theyre working their way southbound from San Francisco to make sure the tracks are o. K. No defects found so far. South bart had had inspected their track. They dont expect any changes there. Go if youre just joining us, maybe you were able to go back to sleep. Wanted to get an assessment of what the situation is. American canyon, valao. Everyone else seems to be doing o. K. Got to dell the story at the intersection of orchard. Thats where we had had the fire this morning at a Mobile Home Park. They started evacuating folks out. Ktvus eric avenue saj savage. Morning. Whats the latest . Reporter mike, good morning to you. They have this fire under control. As many of a dozen mobile homes burned. Four of theme destroyed. Were hearing from some the stories when this quake hit and this has i have fire erupted. We want to this is bill. Heres the neighbor just across the street describing what was going on. Everyone is cerch got out o. K. Are we assuming he was gas lined . I would only guess. I could only guess glaces. Describe what these looked like. When i looked across the street, i noticed flames in the back of this house. I said this must be a gas leak or Something Like that. And then it just took off. Just took off immediately. I mean, it was just a matter of 2 00 before this place was totally engulfed. That didnt help. That did not help at all. Theres no water pressure. The water main broke as near as i can tell. Were the fire crews frantic . These guys are really professional. They were johnny on the spot. This is handsome gentlemen asked me to walk around and bang on peoples doors to get them out of houses. How much concern did you have for your neighbors . In a theyre homeless and im very concerned about them and but ive seen the red cross here. Keeping my fingers crossed for them but i am worried. Yang anything worse than losing your house. What people running out of their homes or were people thats the story from one neighbor. Were in this mobile Home Community. I was just told here this is a Retirement Community. For those who are 55 and older. Orchard avenue in the northwest part. You can see devastation here this morning. 4 mobile homes prefabricated homes in this community, wiped out by this fire. Firefighters did suspect it was fired by ruptured gas lines. Four of these homes wiped out by fire. Another 6 to 8 homes have pretty heavy damage. The situation is under control. The fire captain did tell us that everyone is o. K. Here the everyone made it out. No injuries to report here. Were going to keep speaking with neighbors, get some more of the stories here in napa. Well send it back for you. I got to warn the viewers theres a delay. About four or five seconds. The way its going to be. But the firefighter you interviewed talked about the homes that were destroyed or damaged because of that fire. When you drove in, did you see other mobile homes not necessarily damaged by the fire but structurally damaged because of the earthquake . Reporter yeah. There are reports of some of these homes in this particular community that were knocked off their foundation but the force of this quake. Im not sure. Im looking over here. Do you have an exact figure an eke doe how many homes have the structural damage . In this complex, ci tell just from Walking Around the immediate scene, we have a large number. Citywide ive been given an update by our pio from the city downtown that we do have a large degree of damage in the Downtown Core and throughout the city to the degree and the numbers, i do not have that information. Itll be several days before its developed. Fair to say, dozens or hundreds . Beyond dozens just a personal estimate listening to our radio traffic and from what ive been told. Whats the best advice if i find my home has structural damage . Translator best thing to do right now Emergency Response is to look at the website www. Cityofnapa. Org. The key is, if you do smell gas, to shutdown the gas at your meter. Only if you smell it. O. K. . Beyond that, if something does not appear safe, stay out of it. Go toas to goens to friends or this community with our floods and pass fires and earthquakes were really good at taking care of each other. Talk to your neighborhoods. Get in touch with them. Find shelter for those that need t. Look up your disaster organizations. Certainly good advice. Thank you so much for your time the advice here from the captain, captain with the napa Fire Department. If you notice any sort of structural damage, probably a good idea to stay out of that place. Find safe place to say because as we have heard there are aftershocks likely more to come. By again, the situation here this mobile Home Community a Retirement Community for those 55 and up as what weve been told. The fires are under control. Thats the good news. No one hurt out here. But obviously quite a bit of damage done to a number of homes here. Well stay on top of this scene. Further updates later on. Back to you guys. Thanks. Great advice bit captain there and also to note the neighbor he interviewed, how described the firefighters very professional. You cant get water. They started to evacuating all the residents. They waited for those county trucks to come in. Hats off to the napa county firefighters. Absolutely. They were on their way to another call when they saw two columns of smoke coming up and quickly rerouted. Thats what theyre dealing with. We do have crews alex savage. We have folks all over the bay area keeping an eye on things. Talked about the roadways. People staying off the roadways. Joining us no talk about what hes seen in terms of damage and tom, how significant is the damage that were seeing . Thats a pretty decent size crack im looking at. Reporter well, this is on route 121. Thats the main road between the sanoma and napa value list. You have a road heave and a crack. The crack runs entirely across the entire [ inaudible ] this isnt blocked off yet but it will be. Theres major work to be done and a lot of work that will need to be done. Just down the road, 121, and 29 thats the main road going up north on the left side of the napa valley as your heading north. That intersection is extremely dangerous. So dangerous that the sh has posted two shovels there because the light is out. Even with the shp there, theres a number of people that theyre making a mistake. Its very dangerous. Just slow down and you be very, very careful. In addition to that, i talked to every bridge engineer, every brj inspector has been assigned. Im sure theyll be bringing people in from other parts of the state, other districts. Were in district four and they will be looking at all the age brims and all the highways that make sure they understand the full extent the damage. Theyre going to have a lot of repairs thovment resident going have, have speives. The main thing is that at some point theyre going to try to close this down. If you dont have business down stay away from this area because at some point theyre going to say thats it. I got to drop you off there because john fowlers got a live interview. Hold on for a second. Lets go back out to john fowler. John . Reporter all right. Just getting an update on numbers. Im with division chief darrin drake. Tell us how many and how serious are these injurys . Well, john currently we have 87 people that have been seen at our emergency room here. We have two adults in critical and a pediatric patient thats in Critical Condition. Theres a variety of injuries. Were seeing some lacerations, i dont know the specifickings behind many of them, but many of the people i would consider as walking wowbded coming in with lacerations, produces and bumps and possibly some broken bones. Expect to see more . I believe we will. As people get back into their homes in an attempt to clean up with lots of broken glass and things that are in disarray, we can see more patients. More serious injuries from falling ons . Can you tell . The as a result of a chimney or a fireplace that had chance collapsed. All right. Thank you very. Appreciate it. Thank you. Well stay in touch here with the hospital officials and bring you the very latest but as the chief said, more than 80, 87 people have been seen here. One child in Critical Condition. Appears to be the result of the a fallen chimney or masonry. We did hear some of that on our scanner traffic as we were approaching the hospital. Many of the ambulances here are busy. Weve seen a long stream of them. We can expect to see more of that. Reporting live. Back to you. All right. Thats not news that we want to hear that were dealing with critical injuries but again as john just told us too, when you have falling thing and structural damage and some major impacts from that. Our thoughts are with them. One because of a possibility of a collapse because of a chimeny. Or fireplace. Dont forget the aftershocks are possibly out there. Just because the brick hasnt fallen down doesnt mean it was loosing. Be very aware. Be very careful. They have some evacuation sphrs because if even if the people arent hurt, cement build if theyre worried about gas leaks. Youre going to want to get away from the building that has you concerned. You can go to the centers. You know dave clark has been following the information coming out of area and where folks cogo. Go back to him with news in the newsroom. As you were talking another aftershock. A 2. 5 aftershock. Weve heard the stiff napa. Theyve given us a lot of information. You heard 87 people treated for injuries at queen of the Valley Hospital. Two of the injuries are major injuries. Weve heard that four mobile homes have been destroyed. Two mobile homes are on fire right now at orchard avenue and north napa. There are have been 50 gas main breaks. 0 water main breaks. Some of the areas have no water. Were told the wear is some areas have no water. Look at the damage on your Television Screen rights nowment some of the storms and the American Canyon area, severe damage, and items tossed around and all over the stores and on the ground in certain areas. Historic buildings have been damaged in napa. They include the sam key laundry, the goodman library, and you saw the video early of the napa county courthouse. That giant gap in the thats been knocked out of the wall of that building there. Evacuation centers set up now at Napa High School at the Napa High School gym. And their ambulances are responding to various scenes and more are being added. Were expecting another update at 10 00 on the injury updates. Again the injuries vary but at least 8 people have done to be treated for injuries. And again we expect that update coming up at 10 00 but yes, as you were talking another aftershock and their predicting there will be more. So be ready. Live in the newsroom. Auto im dave clark. Back to you guys. Yeah. Usgs saying 70 over the next week. The Governors Office told us they expect to be up for days or weeks. We did have to interrupt tom who was telling about we had to get to the hospital for the very latest information on the injuries. Lets go back to tom who joins us. Tom . Reporter yeah. Well, i hope youre seeing pictures from chapter two. Yeah, we are. Over our area. The road had been split entirely across. Whats interesting beyond, thats theres a vineyard on either side and the vineyard on the north side literally has a crack going all the way through t. The you dont see this very often but it split this highway. Whats happening right now is theyre starting to jackhammer the hole here so they can start feeling this and work thong but still allowing traffic to go through other otherwise this would be a problem. This crack its probably where it heaves up at least a foot high. You can see probably three or four feet into the ground and it goes entirely across the highway in two major cracks. That crack continues right into the vineyard going to the north. And this is starting to be somewhat of a spectacle because of the traffic. It has to slow down and theres some starting to show up which is a very only because these guys at some point in time are going to have to do some serious work. The news media is out here. Let us do the work for you so you dont get yourself in the middle of something that might be a long, long delay. Thats the situation here on highway 121 here. Cutting wharf road. About a mile to the west of 121 and 29, the main highway going north in the napa valley on the left side of the valley. Thats the situation from here. If you have questions, that ento answer them. Will they have to close down at some time . Reporter im sure of it. People are driving across the crack. Now where theyre driving across maybe a few inches thick but you got to pull up this roadbed and do something in order to smooth the road down. You can hear the jackhammer now. You have to do that in order to fix the road. While theyll be able to fix it temporarily. They will likely close this road. If they dont, itll be surprising to me. Thats what we pay for them. Theyre down here doing it. We can hear that jackhammer. Were actually seeing them from news chopper two. Pull out a little bit and show us the vineyard that youre talking about. See if we can see that crack that you were explaining because that is pretty dramatic and, you know, when folks talk about earthquake and the shaking and stuff happening, it gives you a sense of things. Thank you for that update for us out there on the roadway. All right. We were talking about aftershocks of the lets get over to mark. Hes been with us since we came on air. Nope. Were going to go to live to Eric Rasmussen. Reporter we have moved down main street a little bit here in downtown napa. Crews obviously have a lot of damage to assess right now but take a look at this building behind me. This is currently the collective business. However this is the fight for building and according to the plaque that they have right on building, this is the oldest surviving commercial building in all of napa. And you can see the the destruction that happened after the earthquake early this morning, just the brick and stone coming right off the facade of the building. According to the information were reading this goes back to 1875. People whove lived in napa for awhile are very familiar with this location and this building because all the different businesses that have come through here. Thats one of the striking images weve seen here in downtown napa of some of the damage from this earthquake. Of course this happened very early in the morning. Thankfully when no one was here, it appears. We did speak to one gentlemen. He thought thered been a retro fit performed sometime in the recent past. Thats not anything weve been able to confirm here this morning. It appears that this earthquake, a 6. 0 was too much for the facade to handle. Theres a lot of damage being assessed here. You can probably see from the cars behind me, theres just a ton of traffic weaving its way through downtown napa. They want to take all of this in for themselves. Emergency crews have asked that people stay out of area if they dont have to be here. Weve seen a number of fire truck and ambulances and pg e trucks. This is just one more image of some of the damage in downtown napa. Weve been circulating around and trying to get some of video for you. We had news chopper 2. Some cruise out there workingen the roadway. From your is Vantage Point v you seen any crews cleaning up or checking to see if some of these structures are safe . Reporter i can only assume. When we were down at third and brown, we showed you earlier this morning, down brown street there were a number of First Responderring, Sheriffs Office firefighters and they appeared to be at least trying to secure some of these buildings. I imagine thats the first orld of business is to make sure people dont get in an area where they can hurt and the next step is assessing how sphantd the damage is. There could be structural problems that you cant see. Yeah. You get the sense that theyre trying to tape everything off, check it on the list, put it on list before they come back to it and figure out where they need to go next . Thats a fair assessment. First responders justing to do their job. Trying to get things under control. Theres a huge response and its something well under way. Reporting for us from downtown napa and certainly some dramatic pictures of the damage that were seeing. If youre just youre also seeing that is highway 121. Very clearly that roadway is being slowed down. Theyve stopped some of that traffic. The cars stopping as that jackhammer tears up that roadway. Not sure if theyll be heading to a closure. But no traffic through there or slowly around because theyve got some work to do out there. All right. Mentioned mark. Lets go check in with mark and see whats happening right. Any significant aftershocks . One aftershock. 7 22. Thats a 2. 5 or above. When you improve just shocked me the once fact he said the Ground Movement per second. Thats what happened in the north. Two feet her second. That was the detected Ground Movement. As far as the aftershocks. This map, a bunch of aftershocks. I have a scale here. Im showing you everything above a 1. 0. A lot of this activity not felt. Right now, im at at 92. 5. Once the main shock occurred at 6. 0 during the 3 00 hour. We talk about the san andres felt. The suspect fault near the west napa fall you cant pick up the epicenter. Now this is the intensity shaking with the instrument intensity. Look at all the yellows and reds. All the damage focused up toward napa up toward American Canyon. Picking up the most intense damage and as far as the shake map, this is what people felt. Wide spread shaking across the bay area down towards San Francisco, down toward fremont and san jose. The magnitude 6. 0. A 6. 0 to a 6. 0 but the latest is a tsh 3 20 and there once again is the aftershock consequence at 5 01. And 7 22 a 2. 5. More coming up in a little bit. Thank you, mark. Lets go become to highway 121. John is down there. I believe youre standing out there on the roadway . There you are. Im standing right here on the road on the side of the road right next to the vineyard. Im going to put this all the way down. Im not close to the bottom. Its probably another six or eight feet and then im walking over here. Be careful tom. Reporter the crack continues under the grapes and it keeps on going. Thats j usa sign of a very large earthquake. Its rare to see Something Like this except in north ridge, places like that. But realizing this went across and ripped that highway apart. It shows you just how powerful this thing was. I thought itd be fascinating. Theyre working on road and trying to get people through. At some point in time its going to get too busy or too dangerous. And the two gentlemen right in front of me are standing on top of this heat and im walking down towards it. This is major damage. This is nothing insignificant. This has to come out. When this comes out, thats is going to be where some major road work is going to have to take place. Theyre doing it well and keeping traffic going. Some big kudos. Translator the pictures and really were getting a great look from how youre being able to show this from us. As you watch how far that crack extends or as far as the eye can see . You cant see much because it goes under the im not going to trespass. Ill go ask the vineyard owner if we can going in there. I just noticed that and i said wow. This is more than just some insignificant thing. Im going to cross the read on the other side and see if it goes to the other vineyard. This is imagine ground fall. You dont see this very often. Six to eight feet . You can still go down 6 to 8 feet. Im i would say thats a good 10 feet below me where you can actually see the ground come back together. That doesnt mean it goes off to an angle or Something Like that. And of course this ground is weakened now. That crack could get keeper and wider and come together. Who knows. But thats the reality of ground folding. We had another aftershock. Did was the rest of the im assuming you didnt feel it because you had a jackhammer. The rest of the ground feel stable and secure enough to have you Walking Around there . Oh, yeah. Its really kind of amazing. You know, we do so much work with they understand what were doing. They try not to impede what were doing as long as we dont get in the way. Its a quid pro quo. Theyve been fabulous about this. This is an area thats drawing a lot of attention, and so but Everything Else around here seems to be just fine. Again, now with daylight, were going to see some of the damage. Were going to see what else we see. I suspect were going to find more stuff. Theres significant damage. Thank you very much for that report. Very felling about the situation out there. And interesting. One of those cracks as you can see on the roadway there is pretty easy to see but into that vineyard. Maybe down 10 feet. So today the chargers are in town to face the 49ers. As we know, the fame is scheduled ace train is cancelled. Because they need to inspect the tracks. Find a different way. Find a different way. A car or some other way because theyre thats not going to happen. Weve seen the california train. They are starting south africa and moving their way south to check out the train. Right now . I didnt see that one. They tweeted that one earlier. I dont know if they have an update. Thats what they were tweeting earlier about their situation there. And thats what they have to do. They do the same thing that theyve done. They said all trains up in San Francisco have been suspected and theyve cleared San Francisco to redwood city. Everybody making may be and making sure that everything looks good. Bart, we did hear from this earlier. They said everythings expected to be normal service for those folks. Here we are looking at twitter and facebook. A lot of information coming in. Youre right. And as you were talking about, for the 49er game, so, of course, the major impact over parts of north, American Canyon area and see the fallout thats sort of turns into a domino effect. For your plans for today, lets check in. David fest sent this to us. But again, we know the north bay definitely a lot of wineries and collectors and so this, you know im guessing but could be a thousand dollars wort of damage but some of them are safe. This picture from walmart as American Canyon. You can see again, weve got the liquor aisle and a lot of, a lot of bottles broken on the floorment keep in mind some of these stores may not be open or may they have certain aisles blocked off. Thats to keep in mind if youre going to be out and about. As officials have been saying, try not to go out if you cant do have to. Thank you so much. This is just a stunning shot here. Chopper two has been picks this up from above but heres another picture of this im not sure but it could be multiuse. In issues home on top. Bust just that one just wiped and the roof sort of just hacking on there. Incredible photos though. Some of these pictures peal in comparison to the folks that are their home burned or seeking shelter. We appreciate your photos. They help to tell the story. Facebook and twitter. Back to you. You can that about folks being injured. Reporting 87 pairnlth patients is have gone through there. A Triage Center there. One is pediatric and one of the reason is because of a possible fireplace or chimney collapse on to that pediatric patient. Were hoping for the best there. Obviously an evacuation maybe empty now but as we move on there this story their home is not stable and they may have to amuse out of house. Theyve going to need those centers. There are 50 gas main leaks. We had the mobile home fires in napa. Four destroyed. Several others damaged n. Though situations that is a very big concern. They think the fire started because the gas main leaks. That set up. And well as grace churr much f. You thats not safe, you do need to make sure you clear out of that area. If you smell gas, call immediately. Report those. Those are the emergencies they want you to call for otherwise do not call if you dont have alex has been monitoring that situation that weaver been talking about. Hes standing in front of the damage and joins us live with the very latest. Alex . Good morning to you. A frighting morning. Its right off of highway 29d and orchard average. You can see devastation behind us. As many as a dozen homes in this community were just wiped out by a massive fire this morning. Four of them destroyed. And about 6 to 8 others that had pretty heavy fire damage. These units are just smoldering still. Firefighters have this situation under control and we want to point the these were gasfed fires. Ruptured gas lines of the thats suspected to be the cause. They took off very quickly. We do understand and firefighters believe that everybody made it out of these homes no reports of anyone being hurt this morning. Theyre still checking to make sure thats the case. You can see they they still have a lot of hot spots and a lot more work. Let me listen you in to a neighbor. He woke up with the earthquake. And at that point he looked across and he saw this fire taking off. Listen to what he had to say. It was a shaking and a baking. Hive been here 28 and a half years. Ive lived in napa almost all my life. You go with the flowment we just want to make sure everybody was safe. Reporter now along with the fire here at this Mobile Home Park the other big issue is there are quite a few homes that have structural damage. Sol of homes were knocked right off the foundation. Weve seen some of them and according to the manager, he believes that as many as 50 homes may be have some sort of structural damage and in all lulled, the people are people not going to want to stay there as we move forward from here and theyre going to have to find another place to stay. The red cross is here to help some of the people that have so much structural damage that theyre doing to have to find another place to live. You can see this home right here in front of us still smoldering this morning after napa firefighters try to control a huge gasfed fire. As many as a dozen homes were damaged by this fire. As a result of the earthquake. But the good news no one hurt out here. Many neighbors quite rattled at what happened but very thankful their neighbors are safe as far as we know. Well stay on top of situation. Keep checking in with firefighters and have an update later on. Thank you. Thank you very much. Mobile home park. The napa airport right now is closed because of the earthquake. We want to go to out to john fowler whos monitoring this situation. Lets see a helicopter in his shot. Are you with us . O. K. Doesnt look like we have john. I am. What youre looking at a reach helicopter. Its a medical helicopter thats has just landed here at queen of the Valley Hospital. Theres a patient inside. We dont know the patients condition. There are three critical patients here at queen of the valley. Two adults and one child. This is just the latest patient to come here. This patient almost certainly will be in very serious or Critical Condition because of the helicopter transport. Many of the 87plus patients who have been seen here at the hospital were treated for cuts and lacerations. Spoke to one woman who said she literally fell into a doorway and her glasses cut her eyebrow. And she had a deep gash on her forehead. Weve seen several other people including several in wheelchairs with head injuries. Were told that the pediatric patients, the child was injured by a fallen chimney. We have one more patient arriving at queen of the Valley Hospital. We dont know whether the patient is in that gurnny or whats going on. This might be a transport out. So we havent got any information here whats going on. Dont know if theres a patient aboard or a transport to another facility. That could be the case. Could be that the may go a pediatric hospital. This is a general emergency and Trauma Center for the napa valley. Theres the pediatric specialist. Well keep you nmped. Right now as we said, 87 people have been injured. Two adults critical an one child in Critical Condition. Well have more for you as the morning continues. Reporting live in napa. Is have you seen patients being taken in and out of there . Absolutely. We yes. Weve seen many patients. Theres a blue screen up there thats preventings us from you can see shes in white. We saw her walk a little while ago. Many of the patients are ambulatory as the fire chief told us a few minutes ago. There are a couple of serious injuries and one of the key issues is to triage these patients and thats what this tent does. They were prepared for this because theyve done simulation and trainings here repeatedly for such an event. This is the first time in 25 years that theyve had to use for a earthquake of this size. Back to you. Thanks. In napa. As the chopper pulls out, this is a residential area where tom was earlier of the thats just a roadway pa look at the homes there. You can see the dirt thats coming out from i dont know a water main break or something happened. A water main break or water coming up from the ground or somewhere else. You can that gets muddy on it looks like as you can see the amount of water coming down. It may be a pipe repture. Obviously through there. Water main coming through. Quite a mess and really across napa, its busy. They have so many things theyre responding to. This would be a Major Incident that crews are you can see the water. Bubbling up. On any other day but on this day, when at last word and i have a feeling its gotten worse. 0 water main breaks. 50 gas main breaks. So at this point, they put some tape town make sure that no one goes by through there and gets injured or gets into any kind of situation. They put some sandwich boards up and they got to move on. Its pretty quite. The water appears to been shutoff. Despite this, despite the 121 crack that tom was out near 29shp saying no active road clo sures at this time. Doesnt mean its not going to happen seecially at 121 as we saw tom put his hand down that crack. Unbelievable. Theyre going to have to rip up to reerp that. It will have to be closed. Chp saying no closures at this time. Theyve checked all the major bridges in the bay area. Those are open. Deemed safe for vehicle traffic. Even though this earthquake happened at 3 20, so were talking almost 4 hours ago. We are still in the middle of a very developing situation because theyre still assessing everything. Were getting aftershocks. Patients are coming into the hospitals. So this by no means is over. This is just getting ready the grumpiest office theyre prepared to be in place for weeks. Hes not there at any of the scenes but possibly tomorrow. Hes tapped in and has his folks monitoring situation. Lets get over to mark. Hes been with us the whole way. Mark, whats happening . Im still amazed that you had the interview. The Ground Movement. You got him . Two feet. Two feet. Two feet per second. Just like that. Thats what everybody experience inside parts of north bay. Take a look at the overall region. Right now im showing you aftershocks. All those little dots. 2. 5 or greater. Get a better idea of the layout. Theres some. Theres American Canyon out toward napa. Theres the disdid issue that o shaking right around 10 15. Possibly 20 seconds. A Long Duration in terms of shaking. Theres a list of aftershock beginning this morning at 5 01. 5 47. Thats a throughout the 6 00 7 54. That was a 2. 8. Typically we talk about earthquakes here in the bay area we talked about the ones you heard an, the san ann rays. Vs. Rr close to the west napa fault. This this thought produced a quake just about 14 years ago. A magnitude 5. 2. Were seeing a lot of the same images back then that were seeing this morning with a lot of the brick coming down and some injuries to report. As far as the intensity showing occupy the this is from instrument intensity. Very well defined. The strong shaking of that yellow area out toward basically very concentrated out toward napa and even approach out toward the area. In materials of earthquake depth, thats another component and this is considered an average depth. So as you can see here, shallow at three miles. Average 6. The depth right about here just around 7mile. If you have a shallow quake right below the surfacer its more wide spread across the region and that was the case extended down to San Francisco and down to sacramento and the Santa Clara Valley as well. Thats the latest. Mark, isis just want to ask you since we have, you we all kind of the hayward fault was next. We were taken back by the west napa fault . I fault i never heard of. We done talk about it much. It has you produced some sizable earthquakes. That is the one that could produce a stronger earthquake. And when you think about all those faults moving across, they start out like a tree branch down towardson california. Down toward the salt and see. Sea. It extends to bay area just lie all these faults that filter out from there. From what imer d reag the napa fault is a northern extension. So basicically all these tree branches. You know when we talked earlier, its not necessarily which fault but is the movement what they predict odd what they would expect theap is what they would expect. We did see the violent shaking. From a store and home. Cue that up again. Folks are joining us. Theres this one shot from inside a store and it just shows the violent shaking people describing the feeling like a Freight Train rolling through their house. I didnt feel that. And i wint too far. If owrp on top of that, you definitely felt it. It wasnt rolling enough to keep people in bed. I also sometimes when you have these earthquakes, people say i slept through it. Very few heres the video. Watch it. Wait for it. There you go. And see i dont know who sleeps through that. Very solid sleepers if we can. But that started if im looking a the my clock goes about 10 seconds before that violent shaking really stops. That gives us a really good idea of really why things are falling off store chevrolets and you shelves. Youll understand why we see some the damageful we want to go down to some video that we got of a music store and got to tell you heres the problem. This is the disappointing part of when anything happens. You see the plate glass windows that are breaking out. I believe this is valao. Plate glass windows that are broken. You have vulnerable stores and we are getting reports of looting and thats that is the disappointing but unfortunately a reality of situations like this when people take advantage of the fact that the windows are gone. Happening that music store. Thats the one store. O. K. Just wanted to make sure. Certainly police will be responding to that. Thats not something that we ever like to hear about but too often do. In the situation, there are people that help and take advantage of the situation. We do know from our crews that in valao in American Canyon, a lot of situations where you have the plate glass fell out and have left these storms vulnerable. If you see any illegal activity, you need to alert authorities and certainly we hope that doesnt happen. Social media lets go back to rose mary. I want to start here with lynn day jones. Omg. Hope everyone is o. K. This is our neighbors house. Take a look at. This it looks like a portion of chimney came crashing down. And you can see all the wiring that sports it just hanging out here. I dont know if it this car but major damage done this had this its too dark to tell. But again that coming from linda jones. Lets check in here. Peter says felt it major in napa. Woke up the neighborhood. This picture here, if i can expand it. There we go. It looks like a shelf this is somebodys kitchen here. We talked about it before this happened in the middle of the night and thankfully because most people with when this actually took place. Thank you for. That this one was a ktvu photographer. Hes got this one photo here. Road buckling on highway 12. You dont see this every; right . And then from randy this one in but. A lot of cleanup going on. I can imagine probably some of these stores may not even be open for today. Aisle continue to post them. Back to you. I was here in 89 and the one thing is that is the difference beside the mag new attitude was the damage. You saw the damage in the north bay, the east bay, the cyprus structurement all throughout the small communities and this one although its bad news, but its napa and were not seeing that other damage south. So you saw the energy blow through napa but it seems that its contained to that area. I dont know if thats due to the magnitude, probably a little bit but also again what weve learned since 199 and the way 1989 and the way we build things. And the way in the contained area, its a pretty intense situation out there. We do have some injuries and Evacuation Centers set up. Dave clark is our news room monitoring that part of our story. There are Evacuation Centers set up. Im going to show you on the full screen where they are. Evacuation centers at Napa High School, 2475 jenniferson street and grace church at napa. Solano avenue. The city of napa gave us an update on some the damages. 50 gas main breaks have been reported 30 water main breaks, leaks. Some areas have no water. Both Water Treatment plants are running. Some Historic Buildings have been damaged. The napa county courthouse has been damaged. Some other key commercial buildings. Weefer talked about injuries. At least 8 people have been treated for all kinds of injuries. They even have an outdoor Triage Center set up. At least two major injuries. As for mobile homes, 12 mobile homes have been damaged. No injuries reported. Four mobile homes have been destroyed by fires. So a lot has been happening. Another aftershock. Its not the as you know, not just napa has reeling from the effects. Im hearing from people in alamo, oakley two people i wanted to mention. They said my house is on marshland. I was on the second floor and we were bouncing around. And then bruce in sunnyvale said it was somebody trying to wake you up at 3 20 in the morning. We have a slide show set up showing photos and damage and comments from you. Well be sending out tweets. We want to get your tweets and comments on facebook. Well relay them to you as we get them. Back to you guys. All right. Thank you. Want to turn to mark. An aftershock 8 10 . 2. 6. Thats just 15 minutes ago. Again, were still shaking here in the bay area. Still shaking. Still trying to figure it out. His winery trip was canceled. That goes with what officials are asking people it say. If you were going to try to enjoy yourself, today is to longer the day. If you have to go up there because relatives are up there, the roadways are open and you can get through but again weve seen the damage to the roadways. We have a lot of structural damage. Dozen and dozens of different calls that folks are trying to get to. You talk about the wineries and why itd be cancel. We got this new video in. Were not look at barrels. I remember siege and things being knocked over. No ones touring that winery today. Theyre going to be trying to figure out and assess damage. Felt all through the wine country up there and causing significant damage. Lets show you the roadways because we talk about the open roadways. That doesnt mean theyve gone unscathed. We saw tom up there showing us southern tip. 1 1 there. Where the roadway has buckled a bit. This is near intersection of 29. Tom but out there and he did this Pretty Amazing show and tell for us. He kneeled down to the side and the vineyard and theres a crack right there and he put his hand down t. Could have kept going if his arm was longer. Up to his shoulder laying down there. But at the same time cruise working there. As you see, that traffic is rolling through. Im still not sure why theyre letting traffic. Its a main but eventually as tom was saying the crews are going to have to shot that roadway down as they do extensive work on that road. They were doing the jackhammer theyre doing the best they can to make sure its safe and work on some of the other reerps as they go. This just crossed from bart. Bart inspected rails as it says after any earthquake. Found no damage. It did open at 8 00 a. M. On sunday. Thats important because we also have levy stadium an we know Ace Train Service will not be happening. We know that were just hearing theyre telling me cal train is happening. Thats good news. We saw the first game there were some traffic issues. So if you were planning on taking ace train you need to make new plans and maybe give yourself a little or a lot of extra time to get down there. Thats down south and then youve got the raceway. In the heart of this epicenter in that the race will go on as schedule. I dont know the time that race was supposed to go off. Its supposed to go on many the track there was fine. And everythings good to go there. Lets tell you what happened this morning while you were still, you know, trying to figure out what was going on. Chp went own and did visual inspections. Look at the shot of the old bridge. And then look at the new bridge of the western or eastern span. Its just a good picture. Because you understand now why we built that new span. And why they wanted to get it open and traffic moving along just fine. And we do not have any problems or knife bridges across the pay area. Theres the Golden Gate Bridge looking just fine. People moving through the area. As normal. Theyve done an visual ex theyve been calling in. Letting them know if they see problems. When they hear about a problem, they check it out. If it requires more attention like the one we saw on 21 they called on cal trains to take a look. One more before we move on and go to mark, ill give you a quick update on numbers in terms of this earthquake. 87 at least people injured. Two adults one child critically injured. We do have two evacuation centerings open. We have fires. Mobile homes destroyed a. Dozen damaged in that fire. More damaged structurally because the earthquake. Thats in napa. Everyone still scrambling trying to deal with all the aftermath. Lets go to mark with more on this. Hes been with us since weve been on air. Yeah. And weve been tracking the aftershock consequence as well. Most after shock unfortunately we could have the possibility at least of having a magnitude five or so over the next few days. So far in mostly the magnitude 4 range. See that many cog up right now. The magnitude 6. 0. Here is the aftershock list coming up right now. Ill bring it up for you. As you can seal the first one as 5 01. 2. 5. Theres a strongest one. That was a magnitude 3. 6 this morning. Most recent one, that was at 8 10 this morning. That was a mag any tide pn 6. This will continue to build throughout today and over the next few days and over the next week. Heres the intensity shaking and very well define. Basically in this whole area, tending and heres another look at the u. S. Gs did you feel it map. You can log on to webless. Website. Report when you fell we started this morning. We had 500 responses. This i just imported into the weather community. Its showing up. Why arent we seeing more yellow in this region to indicate the strong shaking with the camera shots this no longer and finally someone reported it. This is basically the experiences of people experience in this morning with that manager any attitude 60 quake. Wide spread across the bay area. Typically we talk were talking about a minor quake, maybe a late quake but today, that magnitude 60. Thats a strong qoak and that attitude may change a bit. Going between a 6. 0 and 6. 1. And well continue to keep an eye on the activity all day lock. Real quick, we vp had a strong earthquake in 25 years. The next one does it mean that it easies the tension on the other main or still just as strong that they will will have a strong earthquake. Itll probably be reassessed. Im still thinking theyre going to have the high odds of a very its overdue. Thats the key concern. Just keep in mind they had a earthquake in the same area back in september of 2000 so nearly 14 years ago and a magnitude 5 range. Historically this area has approximate picked up significantly area and once again this morning. Thanks. Mark, appreciate it. Weve been talking about the mobile home par fire. Water main had busted so they couldnt hook on to the hydrants. They want to evacuation mode. Eric salve individual has been through the the morning. Whats the latest out there . Reporter well, gong to you, mike. I want to point out this fire, a huge fire in mobile Home Community and these ho embelliss are still smoldering. As many as a five. Four of them were destroyed this morning. This fire was triggered by ruptured gas lines. Thats obviously what they believe out here. One neighbor bus they came out of their home after the earthquake and they they could see the gas line next to one of these mobile homes and it was spewing fire in the words of one homeowner. I want to bring in captain becker. Talk to me about the challenge you face when you first got here this morning. We were enrapt to a different call and two columns of tark spoke and a glow at the base. A working fire. And when we entered the park, we noticed there was a significant water main break right at the entrance. We knew we were going to be hampered. With no matter, pretty much the extent of our actions. We divided up and got everybody out of houses. At that point, put a plan together. We were able to contain it to three involved units in this area and another Engine Company help with the other. With a fire thats being fed by a ruptured gas line, obviously Something Like that can spread so easily. You didnt have much wind this morning. That helps quite a bit. That was a tremendous factor. No wind was a tremendous factor to keeping the fire contained to what we have. All right. Are you maze you do believe that everybody made it out, no serious injuries here in the mobile Home Community . At this point we have confirmed that of the four units, there was all all the occupants are accounted for. Were very grateful for. Beyond that, there were no other injuries that were sustained in the injury. This incident within the earthquake. All right. You were just telling me the captain was that now that this fire is under control, obviously a few hot spots to key an but its under control. Now the next step here is to leave this scene and then go work on some other issues around the satisfy of napa of which there are many. Can you talk about where you might be headed . As far as within the city, theyre still discovering gas main and water main breaks. To the extent im not sure, but our dispatch center and command Emergency Operation center has been extremely busy. Were going to get back into the fight. Thank you so much. Beck we are the napa Fire Department. They have is this problem contained really but now its on to the next problem. Emergencies that need to be dealt with all around the city of napa. Getting reports of dang to homes and so these firefighters know they have the fire under control. Find the next issue here and help some other folks in other areas. The good news is everybody made it out alive. Ruptured gas lines. It tore through and destroyed four mobile homes and about eight others were dadged. Erin made it out. A lot of thankful folks this morning. Back to you guys in the studio. All right. Thank you for that update. Appreciate that report. And we talked about the usgs theyve been going back. 6. 0, 6. 1. Now upgraded. That could change again as mark just mentioned. Not set in stone. But upgraded to 6. 1. Now to Eric Rasmussen. Downtown napa with a look at the situation there. Eric . Just a stone throw away from the city haul and right outside the hotel showing you that because guested from the hotel sometime after the quake hit this hurricane warning moselyment some of them with their suitcases here. They were a number of more people just minutes ago got on this black shuttle bus here. Many of theme are here for the race thats happening this afternoon. And many people from out of town trk, of course, who arent it entirely familiar with an earthquake and a lot of people even residents here shake issue by this mnl quake. 6. 1 now theyre saying. We talked to somebody who was on up on the fourth floor of this hotel early this morning when the quake hit. She was in the bathroom and license plated to what she had to say. The force of the play threw me off the at the same time the mirror was breaking up and flying every direction. So there were glass fragments everywhere. What was going through your mind at that time . Well, you know, at first youre just thinking o. K. T. This is an earthquake. And how much worse is it going to get . We were talking about a lot of the folks that were staying at the hotel. Done some wine tasting. Never expected theyd go home with that story to tell. And you see some more debris from the building on the sidewalk here on first street. Again we didnt hear of anybody seriously injured in the hotel. Although they say it was scary. Large plasma tvs on the walls that came down. Large pieces of furniture. Another couple from it nashville. It was a chaotic scene inside the hotel after this earthquake hit. Many of them didnt have individual transportation. Therm down waiting for a ride and now theyll have to figure out what to do with the rest of their time here in napa. Pretty dramatic there at this hotel. Peopling getting thrown off toilets. Thats what happens when you have a 6 1 . Rch h you dont expect it ever but certainly when you are spowpped sleep. Just gave an update. 30,000 customers now out if. Doesnt exactly is have a breakdown of where they are but we heard a lot of the napa people saying it looks like people in they told us the viewers center to have power. Looking a little bit more north for those Power Outages but again, pg e. We heard warnings to watch out for down power lines or anything that may be the area. Were still in assessing the damage. There could be a lot of unsecure scenes. So be very careful. The first place where if you didnt werent with us earlier, Eric Rasmussen moved but he was ornlly down at third and brown in downtown and the damage he was showing us there there seems to be a lot of Historic Buildings. One there since 1875. The Old County Court house. So again a lot of bricks are coming down and thats what napa downtown is. Not all of it, but a good portion of it is the classic structures that have been damaged. Some of the some of it just see some bricks. We have seen soom dramatic so there a big safety issue with those situations. Lets go back to mark. We talked about this upgrade of the 6. 1 in terms of going back and forth. Try to figure this all out. It was reported as a 5. 7. Its tboap back and fourth to a 6. 1 to a 6. 0 and back to 6. 1. It depends on where you are. Around the epicenter that strong Freight Train shaking but south is more described like a rolling motion. It lasted for quite some time. Once again, updated the maps to the reflect the change. A 6. 1 but the aftershock remains unchanged. 2. 6. The strongest one was 6 00 hour at 5 47. This is the shake map. Wide spread shaking on this map. Take a closer look at this and you will see out toward sacramento. Reports of some light shaking here. For san san jose. As you would expect. Thats that yellow contour. Right around the epicenter by center. That right around the epicenter. The main shock that happened at 3 20 this morning. We talk about the san andres but todayer more about the west napa fault. Near this fault responsible for producing the quake about 14 years ago magnitude 5 range in september of 2000. It runs from the north of valao to yonkville. Its about to the northwest of American Canyon. As far as the depth, we talk about the magnitude and depth. Here we go with the scale here. A deep quake is 10mile a. Very deep quake very wide spread but what we had to do was relatively close to an average quake depth. That center just about 6miles. Just in that average range just about 7 mill miles. Unfortunately that could be changing and well keep an eye on that. Thank you, mark. Should also notice something across the air. President obama has been briefed by Homeland Security on the 6. 1 quake. All right. We want to turn out to 8 43 monitoring social media for certainly a lot of people reacting; right . A lot of cleanup going on this morning. Lets take a look at this one. Star bucks in American Canyon, this one coming from nancy. A lot of cleanup again on here. Something to keep in behind if you are thinking about getting out. Show you this picture here of dan this one from facebook. Chad showing us his garage it looks like to me sm his motorcycle toppled over. Maybe a big tool set. So that looks like it could be very costly as well. One more shot. This one coming in from kayla a few hours ago and this apparently her bathroom. And you can see a lot of stuff just dumped out on to the floor. Weve received a lot of pictures. Some minor, some major but again, it helpstous tell the story and just how large this impact is. So keep them coming. Ill continue to post. Back to you. All right. Thank you. Right now were going to go back to the newsroom. Dave clark in there. Dave . Yeah. Aisle going to pick up on what you just mentioned. President obama has now been briefed and been updated on the quake by the department of Homeland Security. Hes getting all the latest information. Were waiting to see how he will respond, how the Obama Administration will respond. Want to give you a full screen look of what has been set up in napa. Napa high school. 2475 jennifer so many street. Also grace church of napa valley at 3765salano mafn. Just brief overview of some of other things. Mike mentioned about 30,000 comaries lost power. Pg e crews are trying to get the power back. Were hearing from people all over the area. This is the not just contained to napa but thats our focus. I just heard from shelly moore. She said it felt like lots of twisting and turning. N herrick get more information on what has been happening in that earthquake and you can also tweet us. Wed like it hear from you on your personal story of whats been happening with you. Well billion treating out information as well the latest information of what is happening. Live in the news room. Back to you. Thank you very much. Getting an update from six flags discovery king come the park is not or Power Outages from the earthquake. It also says that all the animals were checked out and they seem to be fine and the park will be open as schedule today. Where they shutdown that offramp earlier this morning. Thats right near the park. So when you talk about how close it was to the area that was shaking, very close there. Again, these are pictures from 121 which is not far as well from that area and you can see the buckling there. Few you have any question of how hard, shaky enough to leave that big crack. He actually stuck his hand into the crack. Off that highway and into a nearby vineyard. And he put his arm all the way down there and still didnt touch the bottom. He went about 6, 8, 10 feet. Sent us more video that hopefully we can get on for you soon. The highway buckling. They are getting lots of reports that there are 121, 29 where they are seeing significant cracks. Major roadway damage. Its the major roadway damage that we are certainly most focused on for people driving in and around the area. Although we should say that none are closed. Thats what happens. Have the roadway damage. As that 121 probably going to be shutdown later today if not in the future. So they can prepare the roadway there. Something else . We just got word from cal train. Cal train is holding trains right now because of the quake within 50 miles. All freezing rains are being held while the tracks are being inspected. Theyre checking the structure, theyre checking the signal system. Cal train putting trains on hold while they inspect the trains, the tracks and the system. That is the very latest. That came in moments ago and well give you more information as we get it but again, if youre concerned f youre using cal train, expect delays because theyre putting everything on hold to check everything out because of this mornings earthquake. That is important. Especially for folks along the peninsula. And also warning that for tomorrow mornings commute, there may be some rejid yule delays. If they find nothing. But there may be some delays tomorrow morning. Just good for everybody to be aware and ace train also saying no niner game service for them. That game starting just hours from now. Its good for everyone to be aware. Thanks. Reporting for us. Queen of the Valley Medical Center, one of the bigger areas in napa took 87 patients. One pediatric. That pediatric patient was injured due to a chimney that collapsed. No john fowler was out. There they rolled a or maybe to ucf. A lot of people call them the walking wounded. Nothing most of them cuts and bruises. We want to go down and talk about the roadway to tom. We showed you some pictures a little earlier here on our newscast. They were pretty dramatic from over there. This news chopper was over the area. You could see the roadway was kind of cranked all the way through. The water main was coming up. Thats where tom is now and show us what the situation out there. Tom . Down on the ground the situation is the main has broken and water is flowing down the street where the road there has buckled substantially. And as a result a lot of the utilities have been damaged. How much, we dont know. The business on white cliff circle is serious. Theyre going to have to fix this big break which continues to leak water out. There is a crew out taking some sampling. Whats pg e crews. Because those cars some of them are destroyed at this point in time and that is not more than a mile or so away from here. So as a result its fair so say that napa has taken the brunt of this hit from the waves. One thing i do want to mention though it is a tribe to earthquake while these houses are sitting right around this terrible damage, they themselves appear to be not structural damaged at all. Some broken pots and things like that but no big cracks in the stucco. That may show up lair but its fascinating. Theyve worked very well. White cliff circle, twin oaks, big problems. Leaking water mains and a lot of people wondering when this thing is going to get back to normal. Itll be no time soon. I was going to ask you if you saw some structural damage beside the carport bus the actually homes. Is does it look like a Newer Development out there . Well this one here is probably not terribly old. The apartment complex was very old, and what i noticed was where the carports had collapsed wood appeared to be rotted. As a tall structure thats heavy on top and a few things on bottom to hold it up, as it started to swing, that wood just broke. But most of the youre not siege a lot of structural damage. We saw early some broken pane glass windows but nothing that would suggest a real kind of damage to newer facilities and thats because theyre built for these codes. We havent seen much. Weve seen what weve seen. Well continue to look around. Its interesting to note how well the houses have performed. Inside theyre a mess but the structures themselves from the ten or 15 i can see appear to be o. K. However one guy did have some very serious damage to his hardwood floor. We whether have it find out but well be talking to him and have his interview on later. Look for it. Thanks. Right if there for us live on the phone from white cliff circumstance in the city of napa. Youre time is 8 53. More pieces of information. There is that post office building. Maybe a little bit. The window that popped out. One in napa. Damage but pearchtly some homeless folks sleeping in and around that building. They were hit by debris. We hope theyre o. K. Were also waiting for this 9 a. M. City briefing. At city hall. Were going to bring it to you live. 5, 6 minutes. Keeping an eye on this situation. Were going to bring you in just a minute. Just if youre joining us will there at the hospital or where theyre being transported to. Going to a Trauma Center. There is some news chopper two shots. That was set up soon after the earthquake. You can see an individual being placed in there. I know there were chairs set up outside and they tag you with colors to the extent of your injuries. Minor, moderate and triage you. Everything up and running and john fowl her was out there and a which is a fantastic sign and because hospitals practice because were in earthquake country. John joining us live. John . Thanks. We just got an update. Take a look at some video. What youll be looking at here is a sheet held up by the paramedic crews to help keep the privacy of a child. Not certain which facility it is. Likely childrens hospitalling however. What we have learned about this child is that he or she was injured when a chimney fell during the earthquake. This is what happened you recall 14 years ago in napa when the 5. 2 earthquake hit. Apples injured a that child subsequently died. There are 89 patients. Two here remain in Critical Condition. That third critical patient was when the thing one of things that we learned was there is damage inside this hospital. We talked to a witness who was in the hospital during the earthquake. He said the beds jumped up and down a foot and things rattled, glass broke, Ceiling Tiles fell down and a number of other Serious Problems including flooding on the floors. We talked to the ceo about that, and he said that the hospital indeed did suffer damage but nothing got in the way of the care. Just about two hours about three hours they he give lent to an entire days worth of patients here about 89 patients. Most of them with minor cuts and produces. They did have one heart attack and as i said, the two critically injured patients remain here. One with multiple fractures. At the moment, it appears that the number of patients coming here has dwindled. Its significantly dropped off. So hopefully it might be a good sign that most of the injured are taken care of. The fire chief told us that as people return to their homes, there may be more injuries injuries here most common one coo rgt to the ceo was injuries to the feet of people who werewalking on Early Morning broken glass in their homes. [ captioner transitioning ] fo. Really working double time, overtime and we know there are people out there waiting for help. There is also a lot of assessment going on. Six flags are in the epicenter of the earthquake and they say the park is going under thorough inspection and the park has not sustained any damage or Power Outages from the earthquake. The park will open as originally scheduled. People have been advised not to head to napa. But i will tend to see peopling head up there and we have the raceway and that is happening. We talked about the briefing coming from just outside napa that is expected at any second. In the meantime i should say that the structuring integrity and this is a question that we will find out during the briefing on one building, the windship building, the whole block that building sits on, the integrity is in question. That is one question we will get answered hopefully. In the meantime while we wait, we will go out to dave clark in our newsroom. I just talked cal train. They are inspecting the northern system and they are on hold but they figured the southern section out of san jose and they have cleared the bridges between San Francisco and redwood city so they are making progress and planning to run the train to the 49ers game so that is the late for cal tran and the northern portion, they are on home and southern portion of san jose is cleared and they do plan to run the special trans to the 49ers. Thanks for that latest information. We should notice everything was checked and tweeted all bridges are fine. Rosemary. We have countless photos from folks, minor spills and thank you from this one from jody holiday. Earthquake damage at safe way in vallejo. Minor damage and some imagine and this is coming from randy deeson. This next to the crack and buckle of the roadway and multiple others in all directions of highway 12. Here is another Vantage Point. Claudia and mike talking about the huge gap, several inches wide so that coming from randy deeson. This one during the overnight and this one of course, napa firefighters working hard on extinguishing Mobile Home Park fire and you know again you take a look at the photo and it breaks your heart for these folks. The firefighters trying to spare this home. Fire out of the top and in the overnight hours. It may have fire outside of the home and on the back side but some folks definitely hit hard by this. We do appreciate your photos. Send them to us facebook and twitter and i will continue to post. Back to you. Coming up on six hours. I havent asked you how did it feel at your home . Morning. It was rocky. It jolted me awake and i sat there for a while not reacting for a while. Thinking this is a pretty good shakier, a pretty good one and picked up the phone and i think it barely stopped shaking when i was on the phone with the newsroom. This conference, this is the flow of information. I was 10 or 15 miles from that epicenter, i didnt feel as violent. Maybe it was when it woke me up. It felt to me and mark talked about this, about that release of energy, like a shuttering like the earth was trying to release something. I was in san rafel and i didnt feel the jolting that a lot people felt. You could have been in san jose and may have slept through it. People i know slept through it. Mark, how do you feel about the pictures we have been seeing and the earthquake. The damage, when daylight comes and we get a better perspective, the 6. 1, we would produce that much of an impact. Depends on what you felt. If you were south of it closer to San Francisco and morin county, probably more of that rolling effect for 10 to 15 seconds and towards the epicenter and American Canyon and around vallejo, you get that Freight Train shaking. Here is the tracker, exaggerated a bit, the yellow dots are after shocks. 1. 20 magnitude. I will slide above it, 2. 5, dealing with a magnitude of 2. 5 and the activity for this part of the region. On the usgs web site, they give you the longitude coordinates. It was to the west of millton road and that was the main shock that occurred at 3 20 at 6. 1. It was in this immediate area and the effects, a lot more widespread and as you have more building, the effects more normal towards napa and vallejo and American Canyon as well. We have been watching the after shock and following the main shock which hasnt bummed up to 6. 1. At 8 10, 2. 6 this morning and as far as the earthquake, this is the incident intensity. Mark. We have to interrupt you, we have this press Conference Starting and lets go to napa because the press conference is getting under way and lets listen in. I would like to turn it to our city manager, mike parnes. Randolph and my name is mike pa rness. Just wanted to announce that in response to the emergency that occurred this early this morning, we have activated our Emergency Operation center and effective at 7 59, we declared a local emergency. The county, i believe is taking similar action. We have brought in all available forces and the work force to come in to assess damage, provide services and the work is under way and we are busy now surveying all of the various complaints that we have received and establishing priorities. We have brought a number of resources in this morning to talk to you. Why dont i introduce John Callahan with the Fire Department and handling the operations this morning. He can explain what we are doing in terms of responses and then we have some of the other Technical Support from police, public works, and other departments, if you have questions. What is the separation, the emergency separation mean for you . What do you assess for that . The declaration states that we have an emergency. It means that we have exhausted our local resources. We need more help than we can from the outside. We are asking the governor, both the county and the city are asking the governor to declare a state emergency so we can accessory sources through the state office of Emergency Services and perhaps beyond. So it is a declaration to determine that we need help and that it is serious. We will be submitting with that declaration, an itemized list of damages within the next couple of hours. Did the governor supply you with that . We have not had communication, we made the declaration about an hour ago. We expect that will occur in the future. John. Good morning, john calla han. The earthquake occurred and multiple fires, a total of six and one of those incidents involved six mobile homes together. That was one single incident. Four of the six are completely damaged and the other two some damage. We are in a phase of evaluating the buildings to know what we have and where we need to place our priority resources. We have a total of four strike teams from local government, from the area that are in here helping out as was mentioned by the city manager where our resources are exhausted as far as quantity of onduty personnel. In these situations as happens state and nationally, we call in outside resources for that help. We had in the neighborhood we have right about probably one hundred plus gas leaks, power lines down. Medical calls are in the neighborhood of about 80 plus at this time. The Valley Hospital has been inundated with patients, all related to the trauma related incidents after the earthquake. One Major Incident of fire falling on a young child, a young person, in Critical Condition and has been flown out for a neuro center. Our crews again we are trying to catch up with the calls. We have a significant backlog of calls. We also have Additional Resources from the California Office of Emergency Services on hand, local Fire Agencies with rescue crews, specialized urban search and rescue crews are in route here plus some that are physically in town now. Thats about all i have. Public works director will come up and talk about the infrastructure and go from there. inaudible . Im sorry. I do not know the age. inaudible . The operations chief. The napa Fire Department. Is that the only serious physical injury . Two other criticals that im aware over and i dont know the exact nature of them. Im going to assume this is all trauma related injuries from falling debris, etc. Anybody missing . We have no reports of anybody missing at this time. Do you feel the danger has passed as far as can you identify im sorry, can you repeat that. Have you identified all of the gas leaks and power lines down, do you feel that danger has passed . No, i believe we are still getting calls. Pg e is working with us closely to identify any known leaks but as people come home and get up and moving, thats when we are starting to get more calls. Zigly, we havent seen any after shocks of significance. We have had some. I understand two of them in the 3 point something range but they are anticipating in the range of five plus for after shocks. And i havent felt them yet. Chief, a lot of people out there looking at the buildings and especially downtown where there is some rubble, any word to them about the danger of getting too close . Yes, please stay away. We have done our best and we are still working on isolating those areas and taping them off. We have tried our best to close down town and those areas and buildings that are obviously damaged. We have teams of inspectors, building inspectors, the public works director that will get to that will go out and evaluate those items. Stay away from the buildings that look like they are leaning. What is your recommendation for people for shelter. Shelter at Napa High School and go to a friend, go a friends place. If you dont smell gas, you are probably safe. Can you give us any idea when power will be restored any focus for when pg e will take how long . No idea. The building officials, how many overall structures . We are in the middle of assessment, i will let the public works director speak to this and the status of the buildings. What about the mobile homes, you said two were destroyed. Six. Another incident there was a fire home at a mobile home destroyed separate Mobile Home Park. I will let jack la row come up. Hello. Jack larochelle public works director. I do wanted to say that the reports on the gas leaks that we have gotten, a lot of records and pg e is chasing them down. We dont know the actual numbers. My understanding that they have crews working on that as diligently as possible. The big thing that we are working at from infrastructure public works standpoint is the water main system. There has been a reported about 30 water main leaks or breaks. A lot of them in the Browns Valley area, west of town. Thats to be expected. Thats geologic area. More sa acceptable to damage. Have our crews trying to isolate the leaks and shut off of the water to those areas as quickly as possible. Now, to provide water flow and volume, we have opened the water plant at hennessy so we have two feeds one from the south and one from the north. The water plants were fine and not damaged, thats the good news, the upside so we are feeding water, the tank levels did start going down right after earthquake so those had been stabilized and starting to come back up when we were able to get our other plant in operation. The first issue is getting the water on as quickly as possible. The water is safe to drink. I can say that and what were doing afterwards, after we do that part of the work is then we have to set out a set of assessment teams to assess the damage. My understanding is that there is road buckling issues but nothing as far as any catastrophic issues. We do have a team of folks for structural issues. They are inspectors and we will get those people to assess properties. We are doing that right now. We dont know how many they are and the extent of the damages but when we find something that is problematic. We will red tag it and tell folks not to be around the building for safety purposes. We dont know yet. As soon as we will get that we will make it available. It seems like there will be 200 or more structures that have been damaged. Can you give us a feel right now. Thats speculation, you can see downtown to the older buildings. But we just dont know yet. Can you talk about inaudible were they retrofitted. I know it is early but anything along those lines . I cant tell you. Rick, if you want to talk about that. Rick tooker is our in charge of planning. Right tooper we are assessing and dont have numbers to tell you at this point in time. The number that we have red tagged, we are trying to make certain we have people on the street identifying the buildings as quickly as we can and starting from the center and where the older structures are. With regard to the reinforcement, most of our buildings in the downtown, our older buildings have been reinforced, we have a small handful that have not. Whether or not those are the ones connected to work that has been done or not, we are not able to say at this point in time, we need to collect the information and get it out to you correctly rather than make assumptions. City manager or okay. Representative from the police. inaudible . Rick. inaudible . They varied. There have been improvements made to the buildings over time and some as recently, completed as recently as the last 18 months and others several years ago. It varies. Is it a requirement . Yes. What was the deadline . The deadline has come it has come and go so as a result those very few that have not completed the reinforcement, we have been actively pursuing that by working with them. Like i say, i dont want to draw a concluding to any of those structures relative to anything. We dont have the data. Who are you . Im the Community Development director. Steve potter the Police Department operations there. Our 911 system and all public Law Enforcement Safety Systems are operating as normal and enhanced because of this event. We have relative calm in the community because of the, i think a lot of that had to deal with the overwhelming response that we had from 911 staff and Police Officers that came in without having to be called in. With that said, we are working with security in the downtown area. Some of the shopping centers. We are having we will have for several days a high police presence. And thats to provide service to and assistance to the citizens of town and as well as the business owners. Right now we have some street closures from saspa lavenue to jefferson and from third street to main and a lot of due to the broken glass downtown and the damage to the buildings so the potential for further damage to take place. The Napa Sheriffs Department is taking care of security at the courthouses as well as the county administrative buildings and at the department of corrections. We are thankful for the community and have received a lot of donations as far as lumber to board up windows so that makes our job easier. Responding to alarm calls. When the buildings are secured it helps us to provide security to the buildings. How many 911 calls have you received . I have no idea but the system was maxed out for a short time which is typical. We had an earthquake, about 5. 2 at that point and we went through that. It wakes people up and they call. What was the chief emergency for people reporting earthquakes . There was gas leak issues and fires. A hos of things that people were talking about. Anything about the windows and doors falling off by officers down there checking out a store concerns about people checking on that thing . We have had relative calm for this earthquake and those donations that we received that they are boarding up the windows. We are trying to get the owners to come in and to assess and secure their buildings as quickly as possible but no reports of lewding. Inaudible question . Come on up and check on your reservations and wineries. A lot of the businesses will be normal. That is not to take anything away from the residents and businesses but it will be business as normal. We just ask that they stay out of the dangerous areas where there is broken glass brick and mortar where they might get hurt. No other questions, i will go to city manager mike parness. Point of clarification before we close. When we say that there have been 100 gas leaks. Those are from people that are worried about gas and not necessarily that we have verified that pipelines are leaking or there is a hazard. When we receive that call we check it out. They are calls and not verified leaks. We know the conditions are evolving quickly. We will do these briefings on a regular basis. We will come back around noon. So about every 3 hours until things slow down and we should have more information and give you more detail in terms of the numbers and what is happening. In the meantime for people to receive more information anybody can take a look at our web site at city of napa. Org and we have a web site providing data and details about what is happening and also the citys Public Information office steve martin 2587804, thats extension 18 what did i say . Say the last four numbers. 7804. Someone is writing this in hieroglyphics. It looks like they are still working outside some of those details. Napa city manager wrapping up the News Conference where we learned a lot of new information which is nice and a couple of highlights that mike parness it is said, they have the Operations Department open and napa did declare a local emergency. What does that mean . We have ex caused the resources. We need help here in the city of napa and they are asking the state to bring that help. When they have these, the best part is that they are looking for flow of information and getting as much information to the folks so we heard from power and pg e. We have urban search and rescue teams. What the focus is on the reports that there is some partial closed buildings and people cant get out. They are looking to see if anybody is in trouble to get the people out if they are stuck. No reports of anyone missing but bringing the teams in. Your right. And we have reports from the Fire Department, they have been busy, the latest numbers they gave us was the six homes that were damaged by fire. Four from the Mobile Home Park and mostly in that one area. Four strike teams and a backlog of calls and evaluating the buildings so this is a long drawn out process as they try to figure out the situation that they are dealing with. Napa police saying the 911 system is operating, overwhelmed and fine and everything is good in case other emergencies pop up, it is fine to call 911 and pg e reporting 30,000 customers and napa and sonoma and napa public works, areas out of service. And geologically and trying to assess the leaks. 90 people going to the Valley Medical Center. We have information. We saw the helicopter that john faller was talking about. We know a child was critically injured. Three critical injures and a child hit by a falling chimney and that child flown to a neuro center so they wanted to get that child out of queens valley to a special lift to address the issues that the child received. These are some of highlights. Tom baker. I apologize, i am not sure where you are. Im at white cliffs and twin oaks and that is where helicopter copter 2 is and one of the homeowners houses looks great on the outside but on the inside destroyed. It has moved five inches away from the patio. The Building Code worked because the house did not collapse but major damage to this particular home that suggests that there is major damage but nothing collapsed. One of the things i am observing and observed this in other earthquakes. We are in the euphoria stage. The people that have gone through that are in a sense of euphoria. I have survived. We can replace this, etc. , etc. Here is what happens though. Eventually you go into the reality and sadness phase and if you dont get the work done right away you go into despair. We are in phase one where people are standing around looking and saying we survived it, it is not so bad but when the Financial Realities and some of the other realities but not having earthquake insurance and most people dont have because it is not a good deal sets in, you will see some very different kinds of things but i can tell you in this neighborhood, a lot of damage. This water that leaks out of the ground. They will have to get that out because while that water is coming up. Some of that is brown and eroding the ground underneath and at some point in time that could turn into a sinkhole better for the Water Department to get it fixed or you could have a significant sinkhole problem in the middle of the culdesac and that is the situation from white cliffs. News copter 2 giving us the live pictures. If you dont know white cliff circle, if you are driving 29, if you know the area north and you go to the downtown area, you got downtown our right side, on the west side is what is nope as brown valley area and road and takes you to white cliff circle and that is where tom baker and alex is as well. We have a lot of the focus of the damage they talked with about if youre not familiar with this area you will see the water main leaks and the service for gas leaks. We want to go to alex and figure out what the situation where he is and it looks like the carport did not survive the earthquake. Good morning to you guys. Dramatic scene here on Browns Valley road, this is the charter Oaks Apartment complex and you can see the damage. The pictures speak for themselves. One of three carports that collapsed this monk following the earthquake. We dont know how many cars were damaged when they collapsed but a dozen or so. I want to bring in rachel ellis. That gold suv is yours. Yes. You woke up and you told me you felt the quake and looked outside and before the carport collapsed. What did it look like when it went down . I walked outside of my house and standing at the top of my stairs of my apartment and the earthquake stopped and i saw the whole roof of the carport collapsed and it was loud. You could hear it cracking and just a big boom and landed on these cars and one is my vehicle which hopefully we can get out soon because thats my only vehicle but my father, carl luxingger was nice enough to lep me his vehicle. You got help from folk . Yes. Was it a feeling of disbelief when you saw it . Yes. It was a shocker to witness the carport fell but family is important first so i was worried about getting my family out of the house. And as you point out that is obviously the number one concern making everyone is okay. You said everybody in your family and this apartment complex are doing okay. You can see my photographer, jason is panning over. These are the other two carports that just came down entirely. They crumbled down on at least a dozen or so cars. They will have quite a bit of damage and the folks that live in this complex assisting how many damage was done and people obviously upset that the cars were crushed here this morning at this apartment complex but everyone very thankful that no one was hurt and no one inside any of these cars. Live this morning in napa. Ktvu channel 2 news. Alex, thank you for that report. Appreciate it. We have been talking about the roadways, 121 and sal what is happening. I got off of the phone and i have not heard that race is canceled. There is buckling, highway 37. The roads have been opened even though there is Traffic Control but they are urging you if you are looking this is not the day, if you are trying to taste wine as silly as that sounds you may be waking up, today is not the day to go to those roads. Chpd is asking you to stay away from the area unless you have to go. If you are going to the race, so far we know the race has not been canceled and the roads are opened. I want to mention Train Service because i got word that Train Service on amtrak has been temporarily shut down until further notice from roseville from san jose. Lets look at the bridges. Chp has done not one but two complete checks of the span and they report everything good. The bridges were retrofitted recently to withstand major quakes, open and running and san mateo bridge and bay bridge, we can go there right now, a brand new structure and designed to roll with the quake and performing as designed and it is open and things are doing very well. Lets go to one more thing the golden quake bridge and morin county, been reading the tweets and been checking with authorities morin looks good and the traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge. Governor jerry brown according to the office of Emergency Services just came up on twitter. Has declared a state of emergency. Mike and claudine, back to you. Sal, two major events, sonoma and the 9ers, anymore updates on any of the traffic patterns down there in terms of i mean obviously it is not in the area but we know vta affected. The 49ers have tweeted something. And let me just read it from my screen here. In terms of servicing the stadium, a 49er tweet all tracks have been tracked down within a 100mile radius until further notice, therefore affecting the capital corridor, 750 fans and 49ers are in communication with the agencies, cal tran and vta are operating as scheduled and we have confirmed that. You can get it on cal tran and v ta, this is a look at san jose airport and theres the stadium, if you are going to the game and taking cal tran and vta, thats good. If you have to drive get on the road now, you will have more friends coming down to this game even though it is a preseason game and expected to be well attended so please get on the road but my money is on taking cal tran, that would be a good way to go. We can see that one plane lining up and ken sent in information. Ken is a pilot and he says that control tower at napa airport is closed because of possible damage but the airport is opened but not air Traffic Control. Possible damage to the control tower. You think about the indy racers, they tend to fly in there and they may be looking for another spot. They dont have atc. Just keeps rolling through and you may have not expected some impacts like that. Mark, we want to go to you and we kind of keep going back and forth and keep having this discussion in the studio. 6. 1, 6. 0 and keeps going back and forth and we have both numbers because usgs is having trouble deciding. Thats normal. Not trouble, just basically analyzing the data and it will move a bit over the next few hours. So right now the latest on the web site. 6. 5 magnitude but that will likely change and now to clay it went to a 61 and now to a 60. You can see a few after shocks. The main one at 320 this morning. The most recent after shock at least 2. 5 or above, that was at 8 10 and the strongest at 5 47 a magnitude 3. 6. In terms of earthquake after shocks probability not a forecast but a Statement Issued by the usgs, there is a five percent chance of a quickly equal to or larger and 54 of a magnitude earthquake in the next seven days and 30 to 70 after shocks this is based on probabilities, not a forecast but issuing with this quake that happened this morning. In terms of the shaking, this was the intensity with the instrument intensity and look at the yellows, very well defined and, of course, this quake was felt across the entire bay area. A good portion of Northern California and the very intense shaking and strong shaking towards vallejo and American Canyon and napa and parts of Sonoma County as well and that star is the epicenter. We are familiar with the san hydras. This is the same fault that produced a quake back in september 2000. This has a history with earthquakes. That was the case this morning. In terms of the earthquake depth. We take a look locally. Three mile depth is considered shallow and deep one is 10 miles and higho center where the energy was released 7 miles below the surface and considered roughly an average depth. Magnitude of the three range so far. Mark when you talk about the five to ten percent chance of something similar, are you talking about on the same exact fault that this earthquake happened or is that five percent chance of other faults . It is in the same, near the same epicenter. Magnitude 6. So the epicenter could raid out out, the after shock of coverage could be 10 to 20 miles away so it expand in coverage. Thank you very much. 9 39, in the last 30 minutes we heard from napa saying that they declared a local state of emergency. Yes. For the city and the county. Now word from the Governors Office. We want to go to dave clark live in the newsroom with more. Claw din and mike, moments the governor declared an emergency. You were watching live on ktvu the city of napa declared a local emergency and they asked the governor to do the same. Here is a part of that request. In the response to this morning we have activated our Emergency Center and at 7 59 we declared a local emergency. We can confirm that governor jerry brown has declared an emergency for napa. To give you a brief overview, the city of napa responded to at least six fires and four mobile homes were completely destroyed and they have outside strike teams coming to help and gas leaks and more than 80 patients rushed to the hospital for treatment, a variety of juries including a small child. A fireplace fell on top of him and he was hurt. No reports of anyone missing. There have been after shocks and we anticipate but not of significant. We are asking people to stays what from napa for obvious reasons. The Evacuation Centers. Two Evacuation Centers have been opened and one at the Napa High School and the other is at the grays church. 30 water main breaks and the plans have not been damaged. The water is safe to drink. It is relatively calm with much work to be done. Live in our newsroom, im dave clark, back to you guys. The 49ers say we want to say hello to our family and friends and the 49ers game will be played at 1 00. The 9ers say that engineers say no damage. Transportation has been affected. A lot of people may be driving and you will need to give yourself from a time. Social media playing a big role in the earthquake. Down rosemary has more. This morning giving you a look here. We have oil and bottles here spillage items. Again just a lot of mess and a lot of places this morning. Lets go here. You you can see a wine cellar and storage room. This will take a lot of manpower and look at this picture from tony saying this will be a long day, a hard ware store. Paint cans broke open and they will deal with this for quite a while. Thank you and continue to send the photos and i will continue the tweets. We want to give you an update from the city of vallejo. Damage to the downtown area and on Merritt Island saying we have seen that this morning. Collapsed awnings and broken windows. Five crews deployed for water main breaks and we are trying to see if the stores are targeted by people trying to take advantage of the situation. Broken glass and things out there. Aid being brought in. The city manager for napa says there has been a state of emergency declared at 7 59 and the governor has issued the request and granted the state of emergency. Saying they have exhausted the state resources and they got it. We did talk to the Governors Office of Emergency Services and they had activated that. The government likes to say they are working together and figuring out who needs what. The state will offer services and that will help a lot. People need help building their homes and damage. There is a little jolt right there. That shows you how hard things were shaken. The damage north of American Canyon. Vallejo as well and napa. And Police Department saying dont come down here. We are trying to assess the buildings. They are in the process of doing that. We have seen this in some of the live checks. As the napa police had asked, dont come down. Stay away. Yes, they are trying to do their work. Sal. What do you see. A big 49er game and some people wondering if they will go. Amtrak takes you to the stadium and further north in the sacramento area. That is not an option so you may get people driving. Cal tran is running. 30 minutes running. Vta says their system is not impacted. If you are trying to get around the bay area, bart is running. Ace train is not running. Running special service and have canceled that to the 49ers game and this is because of the quake. Too much track to inspect. They share that with union pacific. They run the track. The other agencies lease it from them. I want to mention bridges and roadways. The bridges retrofitted recently as you know if you have been living in the bay retrofitted for this day and they are open. The bay and san mateo bridge and the new bay bridge, traffic moving well. The new span is doing just fine. I want to show you the Golden Gate Bridge. The traffic is good. The big race today. I got off the phone with officials and the highway there is open. 37 and 121, the roadways are open according to chp and the traffic is flowing. We do have traffic moving and the people want to get to the race early and so far that race is not canceled. We are reaching out to the oakland as. They have a big series and we havent heard anything. They havent tweeted anything. We assume that game is on. We are doublechecking with that. Sal, are you still plugged in . Yes. Want to ask you, what did you think compared to 89 . I was in an aircraft. I was in a plane. I didnt feel it, i saw it but this morning i was asleep and it woke me up and i thought we will have to go to work, this is a big one. You feel the little ones but this one was strong. Pretty strong earthquake. I agree you kind of knew. And being the geek that i am i went to my Police Radios and i listened to chp and obviously they have a plan so they got out to the bridges right away and checking them all. 37 was closed near the Sonoma County fairgrounds and when daylight came they reopened the roads even after Traffic Control. Thats a difference in the communication with the social media and the social media. You talked about levi stadium, the engineers have walked around around checked it. Coliseum is older but we have been heard any problems. We will monitor it to make sure that if you are headed out and you have plans the one area that they dont want you to go to is the wine country. Some people were saying they dont want to stop business coming in there but. Maybe not the immediate downtown area. But just dont go there to check it out. They need space to help the people that need help and they are trying to figure out who needs help. And mark was mentions the faults and as he said there is the chance of a five to ten percent of an after shock. Mark you you want to talk more about after shocks. Not anymore about 2. 5. Dozens under that. But as you would expect seismic ological active. I was working on a documentary tracking the faults. You have the san mateous. We know the faults and others are older ones and some we dont talk about. But this one has produced sizeable earthquakes. Look at this 2. 5 activity, most have been below that but the strongest one is the 3 range. Usg releasing the coordinate data from the epicenter and to the west, that was the main shock area. Which computer is saying 6. 1. We are seeing 6. 0 but it could change. Here is the after shock sequence. 2. 5 and the strongest one happened at 5 37 and you can log onto the web site and report what you felt and this is the report. Widespread reports in the north bay where the strong shaking was and San Francisco and san jose and sacramento and approaching the sierras and thats what you would expect with the magnitude six quake. Typically talking about a quake in the strong range, 6. 0 and producing after shocks and we could have them about 10 to 20 miles away. We will keep an eye on this and have an update. We want to talk about the states early Emergency Warning System in place. Earthquake, earthquake, light shaking expected in three seconds. If you wanted to know what it would feel like, that is what it would feel like and apparently according to los angeles times, the system did provide that alert ten seconds before the quake was felt. You have to sign up for it. They are testing it out, not fully developed. Once it is fully developed, you would get a 50 second warning. We talked about the people that sat in their bed before they did anything. Hopefully 50 seconds, you got a warning to get to a place of safety and 50 seconds is legitimate. They are trying to figure out if they can get it developed and in place and lawmakers trying to expand it but this is a good test to see if the people that were using this got that alert and got ten seconds before the shaking started. Never heard it before. Now you have. If you are joining us this morning. 9 55. We have been on for several hours. The quake hit at 3 20 and our newsroom has been a buzz of activity. Lets go back through what we know and show you pictures of the bay area. Very common scene. Vallejo and the napa area and one of the stores in which the stuff fell off of the shelves and tom baker was in the stores and seeing this kind of stuff anywhere. Yes, windows popping out and things off of the shelves and the biggest damage so far is probably in that one Mobile Home Park in napa. Thats when it caught fire. Four destroyed and six damaged and other mobile homes structurally not safe as well. And the Fire Department rolls up and no water because it burst and they started to evacuate and they had backup help and intense moments and downtown napa receiving quite a lot of damage from bricks falling off building and eric ramas joining us from downtown napping a. Eric. Reporter you cannot see all of the damage from the street. We are inside vals liquor store on third street. That buzzing is the shop vacuum to get the beer and wine that has spilled out on the floor. Thats the owner, he has owned this for 17 years, he has been at since five this morning and this is the dent they put in the damage. He thinks they may have lost more than one hundred thousand dollars in merchandise. He was at home and the store was not opened. He comes in and the floor you can see is covered in bottles of liquor and wine. The one thing you capital you cap cant tell at home is the smell. That is why they are putting things over their faces when it gets too bad. Quite a site and the type of thing that they are dealing with and they shut off the vacuum. Steve, do you have one more second. This is the area you have cleared out so far. Right here and there. Not to make you repeat yourself but what did this looks like when you came in . Like an earthquake hit really hard. Pretty much everything fell. Not quite what i expected. I expected it to not be this bad and it is a lot worse than i thought it would be. I actually thought this would be okay and that those would have fallen but they stayed up and this fell. You told me your goal is to get it opened tomorrow. I would like to. Why would like to. I cant stay closed. It will hurt us. One of several business owners. And we have heard of other places, antique stores and certainly a place like this bottles that fall off of the shelves. You can see this is what will happen. Back to you. One hundred thousand dollars worth of damage. [ captioners transitioning ] it is a powerful issue inspection and when you have a big ma scenery, they
