We are joined by low clouds, fog around the bay a cooldown expected for your bay area weekend. I will have a look at the afternoon highs for your neighborhood coming up. Its just before 7 30. At 7 30, happening now the president right now is talking about the situation in iraq. We want to go to the suggestion lawn of south lawn of the white house. Lets listen in. Terrorists could have used. Meanwhile Kurdish Forces continue to defend the city and the Iraqi Government has stepped up the military help to Kurdish Forces as they wage their fight. Bringing thousands of meals to these desperate men, women and children and american air craft are positioned to strike terrorists around the mountain to help forces in iraq break the seige and rescue those who are trapped there. Even as we deal with these immediate situations we continue to pursue a broader strategy in iraq. We will protect our american citizens in iraq whether they are diplomats, civilians or military. If these terrorists threaten our facilities or our people we will take action to protect our people. We will continue to provide military help and advice to the Iraqi Government and Kurdish Forces as they battle these terrorists so they cannot establish a permanent safe haven. We will continue to work with the International Community. Even as our attention is focuses on preventing an act of genocide in helping everybody on the mountain, countless iraqis have been driven or fled from their homes including many christians. This morning i spoke with the Prime Minister of the united kingdom. Im pleased they both expressed strong support and have agreed to join us in providing help to iraqi civilians suffering so much. Once against america is proud to act alongside our closest friends. More broadly the United Nations is iraq is working to respond to the needs of those fleeing areas under threat. The Un Security Council has called on the International Community to do all it can to provide food, water and shelter. In my calls with allies is and partners around the world i will continue to urge them to join us in this effort. Finally. We continue to call on iraqis to come together and form a inclusive government that iraq needs right now. The Vice President has been speaking to iraqi leaders and our team in baghdad is in close touch with the Iraqi Government. All iraqi communities are threatened by these terrorists and all iraqi communities need to come together to defend their country. This is we are focused on the situation in the north affecting kurds and the iraqi minorities. Others have suffered at the hands of isis. Once a government is in place, im confident itll be easier to mobile eyes all iraqis against the terrorists and to mobilize greater support from friends and allies. Only iraqis can ensure the security and stability of iraq. The United States cant do it for them. We can and will be partners in that effort. One final thing as we go forward we will continue to consult with congress and coordinate closely with our allies and partners and will continue to show gratitude to our men and women in uniform who are conducting our operations there. When called they were ready as they always are. When given their mission they preformed with distinction and when we see them serving such honor and compassion, defending our fellow citizens and saving the lives of people they havent met it makes us proud to be americans as we always will be. With that let me take a couple of questions. For how long a period of time do you see those air strikes continuing for and is your goal there to contain isis or destroy it . Im not going to give a timetable. As i have said from the start wherever and when ever United States people and facilities are threatened, its my obligation, my responsibility as commander in chief to make sure they are protected. We are not moving our embassy any time soon. We are not moving the consulate. That means that given the challenging security environment, we are going to maintain vile gansz and ensure our people are safe. Our initial goal is to not only make sure americans are protected but also to deal with this situation. We feel confident that we can prevent. All right. You have been listening live to the president. He is there on the south lawn of the white house getting ready to actually leave for a vacation but before that he was speaking on the iraqi conflict. Talking about asking and hoping the iraqis to come together but saying that the United States is participating in the air strikes to break the seige. He talked about a broader strategy as well as getting support from the International Community. Back here, the family of Lynn Spaulding is preparing a lawsuit.
