And it is widespread once again, into our valleys, around the bay. Waking up with patchy drizzle this morning, but not as bad as yesterday morning. You may have your windshield wipers going if you are out and about early this morning, along the coast, around the bay. Outside of that, the onshore breeze continues in fairfield, at travis, 28 Miles Per Hour. Little change there. The onshore breeze and the afternoon seabreeze will be with us for today. Temperature wise, were in the 50s to low 60s. 56 in novato, 62 in oakland, 61 in antioch. Temperatures wont be changing a whole lot. What is going to be changing is the cloud cover. High clouds moving back in and the muggy weather associated with it. For the afternoon, an increase in those high clouds. 84 for concord, 78 if San Francisco. Low 80s along the peninsula. 85 this afternoon in morgan hill. Temperatures similar to yesterday, perhaps slightly warmer in some spots. But again, its the muggy weather i think youll actually notice. Ill talk about how long its going to stick around. Well take a look at future cast model, even the possibility of a few isolated showers, coming up. Malaysias transport minister held a press briefing today in kuala lumpur, updating the latest in the crash of flight 17. Cara lui joins us with the story. Reporter the transport minister expressed concerns the crash site was not being properly secured. He shared his fears that evidence, important evidence is not being preserved. He also added that the jetliner flew on a flight path set by International Aviation authorities and never strayed into restricted air space. Investigators are still working to get access to the crash site in ukraine and are still negotiating with pro russian rebels to get the team in to find out exactly what happened. U. S. Officials believe the downing of the flight from amsterdam to kuala lumpur was the work of russianbacked separatists. The crash site has not been properly secured. The integrity of the site has been compromised and there are indication that vital evidence has not been preserved. Interfering with the scene of the crash risks undermining the investigation itself. Any action that prevents us from learning the truth about what happened to mh17 cannot be tolerated. Failure to stop such interference will be a betrayal of the lives that we lost. A vigil outside the netherlands consulate in San Francisco thursday night was organized by local ukrainians. People left candles, flowers and heartfelt messages of sympathy and solidarity. People are also mourning the loss of dutch scientist and world renowned aids researcher, lang, one of the many passengers headed to this weekends International Aids Conference in melbourne, australia. Lang helped San Francisco General Hospital develop protocols for treating aids in the early 1980s. A lot of our discussion was with physicians and nurses in the room to really just talk through, yeah, im afraid, too, and it is scary and heres what we have to do. He also says lang was instrumental in getting researchers to focus on aids victims in africa. The aids researchers who died in the tragedy will be remembered at this weekends aids walk in San Francisco. The walk is set to start tomorrow morning at 10 30 at sharon meadow in golden gate park. Organizers say they plan to acknowledge the victims at several points during the walk. Money raised during the event will help to fund aids services in the bay area. Well, first it was bart, then muni. Now another Bay Area Transit Agency has struck a deal with its workers. Sam trans has agreed to give bus workers and Customer Service representatives a 9 Salary Increase over the next three years. The deal is retroactive to last through sunday. Sam trans drivers earn up to 59,000 a year. Mechanics, 75,000. The city of oakland has thrown another curveball at the as. The chronicle reports that the city has again altered a proposed 10year lease to keep the team at the coliseum. The as are now reviewing the changes, some of which the City Council Approved on wednesday, but the paper reports the oakland City Attorney added other revisions, which risk upsetting the as. However, an attorney for the Oakland Alameda county Coliseum Authority predicts the city and the as will settle their differences this weekend. Investigators are looking into why a car ended up on the Railroad Tracks last night in south San Francisco. A caltrain slammed right into the car just before 10 00 p. M. , between the south San Francisco and bayshore station. The car was mangled and had to be towed off the tracks. There were no reports of any injuries, but there were train delays, as workers cleared that area. Palo alto police are searching for a man accused of taking cell phone pictures in a womens bathroom. The incident happened thursday night at the coverly Community Center on middlefield road. Police say a woman in her twenties noticed a man taking pictures under the divider separating the stall next to her. He ran away when that woman started yelling. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call palo alto police. New evacuations are under way in Central Washington state, as hot and dry conditions continue to fuel a Massive Wildfire. Close to 100 homes have burned, after the fire swept through the town of pateros. The mayor of the town says the fire reduced the small town to rubble, burning her home and the homes of relatives and friends. My home lost her home. My uncle lost his home. Two of my best friends at alta lake lost their homes. We lost everything. 202,000 acres have burned. The fire is zero percent contained. San Francisco Police made an arrest in a deadly stabbing in the tenderloin district. It happened around 6 15 yesterday morning at gary and polk. Police say the suspect and the victim got into an argument in a hotel room before the stabbing. The victim was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive. Police say they arrested this woman here, 30yearold lisa hang. She has been booked into the San Francisco county jail on homicide charges. San Francisco Police also say they arrested a woman who stole money from an 8yearold girl selling candy. 46yearold Ladonna Christian is booked on charges of robbery, felony assault, and willful cruelty to a child. Officers credit Surveillance Video like this one at a Convenience Store for helping catch christian. The 8yearold girl was selling candy monday afternoon. Christian asked the girl to make change, then twisted her arm, causing the girl to drop her money back. Christian then jumped onto a muni bus. There are concerns that the construction of new homes on Treasure Island could mean more gridlock onto the bay bridge. Right now, about 2000 people live on the island, but there are plans to add 8000 new homes, along with new commercial and office space. According to the San Francisco chronicle, more muni, ac transit, and Ferry Service will be added to ease the potential Traffic Congestion and new bay bridge on and off ramps to and from the island are also under construction. Six people were arrested in san jose during a targeted patrol of a homeless camp. The arrests were made in an area known as the jungle. As many as 175 people called the 65 acres bordering the coyote creek home on any given night. According to the San Jose Mercury news, most of the arrests were for outstanding warrants related to trespassing and other nonviolent offenses. Governor jerry brown has signed two new gun control bills into law. One law closes a loophole that allowed gun dealers to sell some semi automatic handguns without safety features. A second law requires courts to notify the state department of justice within one day when someone can no longer legally own a firearm due to a criminal conviction or mental illness. The bills are among several pieces of legislation introduced in the wake of recent gun violence, including a shooting rampage near uc Santa Barbara. Both laws take effect on january 1st. Tensions appear to be brewing between some residents of San Franciscos mission district. Someone spray painted graffiti on the side of a building, threatening violence against so called hipsters and yuppies if they dont move out in six months. Longtime residents say lately, many tech workers have been moving in, squeezing out the locals. Its the frustration of the neighborhood. Theres definitely a problem. Its just talk. No ones going to come in six months and shoot down every coffee shop in the neighborhood. Police say the person responsible could be charged with a felony for making a terrorist threat. Families returning to San Franciscos garfield park, thanks to extra efforts made by the citys Police Department. On friday night, San Francisco police teamed up with the recreation and Park Department to host a free family movie night. Organizers say its been a long time since the park has been enjoyed by so many families. For years, it has been known as a magnet for crime. Thats why police say last fall they assigned four officers to help clean up the park. Most people in the community are really, really good people. So its a matter of bringing those people together and saying to that other element, were not going to tolerate this here. This is the park, this is for the kids. The Police Department has officers patrolling the park seven days a week. Neighbors say crime there has lowered since having those officers there on site. Hes looking to preserve what he calls a city icon, built long before he was born, by a man hes never met. He wants to keep this hillside cross from fading away. Theres a lot of mountains in Sonoma County that looks a lot like it, but this one has character. Reporter cameron says as long as he can remember hes had a special connection to that cross, even though his first visit didnt go so well. We walked up there when he was 5 years old and he good a good case of poison oak out of it. Reporter the cross was made by retired San Francisco Police Lieutenant more than 30 years ago to honor his fellow world war ii comrades who didnt come home. He is now 96 years old. Not only their memory, but the memory of all the other wars. Reporter two years ago, ktvu spoke to him after he had been told by the Property Owner he could no longer go up the hill to maintain the cross. There are liability issues, he said. But this week, Cameron Whiteside saw our story of the plight. Cameron grabbed a couple of buddies, josh and Vincent Meade, and began canvassing nearby neighborhoods. They are hoping to drum up enough support to allow cameron or an Interested Group to regularly maintain the cross. Kindle unlimited was launched yesterday. Amazon is promoting it by offering a 30day free trial. A new music video is calling attention to how much models and celebrities are photo shopped for ads. The video was posted on youtube 11 days ago and has more than 13 million views and is growing. It features singer colby calais, encouraging girls to take off their makeup and appreciate their natural beauty. The message comes as a new bill is gaining momentum in washington. The truth in advertising act would give the federal trade commission the power to regulate photo shopping. This is false and unfair advertising. These deceptive images, were they to tell the same lies and words that they do in pictures would have been regulated and litigated a long time ago. If the bill passes, research and recommendations from the ftc would be expected in the next 18 months. One idea would be to include the message, this image has been digitally altered on any photo that has been retouched. Could be very revealing if it passes. Lets start with what is happening outside our doors. Good morning to san jose, waking up with cloudy skies this morning, upper 50s to low 60s outside your door. Mentioned it a little while ago, even a little patchy drizzle around the bay, along the coast this morning. But not as bad as we had just yesterday. So lets take a look at what is happening. Where does this muggy weather come from . It comes all the way from the Desert Southwest. That ridge of High Pressure remains to the east. Weve got the clockwise motion around that, counterclockwise motion around a low thats off the Southern California coast, and california, the bay area, right in between and it funnels that moisture right in our direction. So we have the clouds coming our way. The low clouds will move out. The high clouds are already pulling in. And i think they will thicken as we move through your saturday afternoon. In addition, because it is a weekend, you may be thinking about heading to the sierra. There is a Flash Flood Watch for north and south tahoe today, lasting until the evening hours. Thunderstorms have been an issue all week long and over the sierra, its going to be again for today and more so for your sunday. Stay tuned to the forecast if this is your direction for the weekend. Lets pick it up here and talk about whats happening. Well also take a look at the sierra as we roll through the next couple of days. There are all those clouds. 5 00 in the afternoon, weve got plenty of cloud cover. This could actually offset the heating for today. So we are looking at temperatures perhaps slightly warmer than yesterday, but if all these clouds roll in, thicken up enough, that will offset the heating for this afternoon. Meanwhile, there go showers and thunderstorms over the sierra. I want to take us into sunday morning, because weve been picking up a little bit of moisture here on the west edge of california. This is when we could wake up with the morning drizzle and the possibility of isolated showers. That will be for your sunday morning. Then take a look at sunday, primarily partly to mostly cloudy the entire day. Thunderstorms, again, in the sierra. So there is your weekend in a nutshell. When you get into the upper 80s, low 90s and it feels a little humid, then it begins to feel sticky. 80 degrees in san jose, 79 santa clara, upper 70s for sunnyvale. Then notice in addition to the clouds, temperatures do begin to fall sunday, monday, tuesday, little changes in the forecast here, but low 80s for inland cities, low 70s around the bay, low 60s along the coastline. Thats even a bit below average for this time of year. By wednesday, temperatures are heating back up. Past sunday, into monday, better clearing and drier weather will return as well. One came up right by the boat. It was really kuhl. You could smell the whales breath. About 10 humpback whales have been hanging out in monterey bay, just a quarter mile out from the harbor. This summers warmer waters are bringing the whales closer and closer to shore to feast on anchovies. The whales are about the size of a Greyhound Bus and can eat tens of thousands of anchovies in one gulp. Ive been a marine photographer for cruises for five years and i havent seen anything like this for five years. For anyone interested in checking out the massive mammals, most whale watching companies leave around 10 00 a. M. And the cost is usually about 50 for a four to fivehour trip. A new drought map shows more than 80 of the state of california is now in an extreme drought. Just three months ago, that figure was at 68 . Some climatologists say the drought will continue to get worse over the summer. The drought map is based on 50 indicators, including weather patterns, soil conditions, and water activity. A pair of wolverines are now causing the San Francisco zoo their new home. The 7yearold male and 13year old female just arrived from the columbus zoo. It appears as though they already feel right at home, having a good time there. President zoo created a special wolverine habitat for them, including water features, trees to climb, and dirt to dig in. Zoo Officials Say the species is threatened in the wild. Their habitat really is, its dwindling due to Climate Change and global warming. So really strong conservation message. Theres very few left in the wild, only 300 estimated. The zoo encourages people to take part in an Online Auction for the right to name the pair. Proceeds will go toward wolverine conservation. Its one of the best deals in the east bay. Later this year, a golf course thats been in business for 50 years could be in the hands of another owner. What it could mean for the people who use the course. Not as thick as it was yesterday morning, but you may find some. And those clouds, widespread, all the way into the east bay, north bay. Weve got the south bay. Have to get into areas like antioch to get some of that sunshine. Again, these will slowly erode. Marine layer as thick as it was yesterday, so late this morning, early afternoon for some before we see sunny skies. Winds are onshore at 18 miles an hour. Not gusting at this time. A little earlier, they were a little stronger. We are expecting temperatures inland to warm up some for the afternoon. But i have clouds coming in as well. That could offset the heating. Malaysias transport minister is deeply concerned the site where Malaysian Airlines flight 17 crashed is not secured. He said this morning there are indications that vital evidence has not been preserved at the site. He says he will fly to the ukraine capital today to make sure an investigating team can get safe access to the site. All 298 people on board were killed. Cara lui joins us with more. Reporter mike, candlelight vij vigils have been held throughout the world honoring those lives lost in malaysia 17. In San Francisco, a vigil organized by local ukrainians was held outside the netherlands consulate last night. Mourners left candles, flowers, black ribbons and messages of sympathy and solidarity, including a note expressing heartfelt condolences to the deceased in the tragic accident. One passenger born in new jersey is quinn lucas schansman, a 19yearold with dual american and dutch citizenship. According to online profiles, his father, thomas schansman, once worked in san mateo. Neighbors tell ktvu the father lived in menlo park until a few years ago. Quinns grandfather spoke in new jersey. Big boy, very lively and we will all miss him. Of course now at the moment the whole family is in mourning. Reporter he says quinn was heading to bali for a family vacation. Others in San Francisco are mourning a world renowned dutch scientist and aids researcher pioneer, helping develop protocols for treating aids in the early 80s. I heard from a person who basically put him on the plane. I knew he was on the plane. Reporter another victim, carlin kaiser, remembered as a caring friend and talented athlete. Cara lui, ktvu channel 2news. South bay investigators say alcohol and high speed contributed to a deadly accident involving a family returning from a birthday party. The crash happened yesterday morning in sunnyvale on the lawrence expressway off ramp on highway 101. One person was killed and four others injured in the solo car crash. The person killed was a 30year old woman, the wife of one of the other passengers. Two more victims are in the hospital, with critical injuries. A man suspected of preying on the elderly in San Francisco is under arrest. Police say 57yearold german woods has robbed several elderly people in chinatown and japantown since april. He faces multiple charges of robbery, burglary, and elder abuse. Investigators believe there are more victims who so far have been afraid to come forward. Californias Unemployment Rate is at its lowest in seven years. New statewide numbers show the states Unemployment Rate dropped from 7. 6 in may to 7. 4 in june. Typically, the bay area outpaces the rest of the state in job growth, but in june, all nine bay area counties saw slight increases in unemployment. Marin county has the lowest rate of unemployment at 4 . Solano county has the highest at 6. 7 . A number of job centers are reporting that fewer people are showing up to search for work. People who work at the job centers say that is a good sign and that things are getting better. The director at the Concord Center says it is a real boom job market right now and some of the job speakers we spoke to say they are optimistic and they think they will find a job soon. Ive had more interviews in the past six months than i had in the whole year and a half that i was off before. I do think that i have a job thats out there for me. I just havent found it yet. Reports also indicate many people who have jobs are now looking for better ones or full time positions, as opposed to parttime work. A high profile investigator will be overseeing the sale and closure of 85 campuses owned by Corinthian Colleges, including five here in the bay area. U. S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald has been appointed to monitor the process. Hes known for investigating the former illinois governor Rod Blagojevich and for the investigation of the outing of cia spy valerie plame. Corinthians five bay area locations include four branches of Heald College. The fifth location is a Technical College in fremont. Dispense of medical marijuana dispensaries and clubs are fighting strict new rules that could force them to close. New zoning regulations went into effect yesterday that shut down close to 20 pot clubs in san jose. 50 additional clubs are waiting to hear if enough signatures have been gathered to put a measure challenging the zoning regulations on the november ballot. City leaders say the changes in zoning are necessary to keep dispensaries away from schools and cut down on marijuana related crime. Opponents say the changes will make it harder for patients to obtain medical marijuana. Theres a new approach to dui prevention in the north bay. It lets people see what its like to be over the legal limit without actually drinking any alcohol. Ktvu spent the day in napa, where people of all ages gave it a try, while learning at the same time. Everybody here wanted to be part of oakland specifically, and for myself, it was a big deal because i know, i know how bad oakland needed firefighters. In recent years, the city has struggled with a shortage of both Police Officers and firefighters. Well, it might be the end of an era for a familyrun golf course in the east bay. Castro valleys Willow Park Golf Course may close after 50 years in business. As ktvus patty lee tells us, regulars like the course because they say its affordable. Police say it appears the four door Buick Century had been spray painted. Now, after the robbery, one hostage was killed during that massive shootout. Misty holtsing was a mother of two. Her family talked about their heartbreaking loss. As ktvus Maureen Naylor reports, they also asked everyone to pray for the families of the bank robbers. Reporter in stockton, the grieving families stood together, but without the woman who they call the heart of their family. What happened to misty is, is a nightmare. Reporter misty holtsing was simply withdrawing money when three robbers took her hostage on wednesday, along with two bank employees. Her 19yearold son and 12year old daughter recalled her as a caring and loving mother who always put her family first. I wake up and im hoping its a dream and that my moms going to be there. But shes not. Reporter her daughter was waiting inside the car when sing went into the bank and was taken hostage. I just want to thank everyone who has been there. It means a lot. Chp says the officer was trying to restrain her in order to protect her and drivers on the road. Oakland attorney john burress plans to sue the Highway Patrol. He says pinnic suffers from mental problems and should have been treated differently. We want officers to understand that you dont get to treat people in a negative way just because of the status that they may have or how they may look or what their ethnic backgrounds are. The lawsuit accuses the chp officer of excessive force, assault, and battery, and violating the womans rights. The suit seeks monetary damages and a change in Law Enforcement policy. A terminally ill woman in texas has given birth to a healthy baby boy thanks to a revolutionary new treatment. The mother was in her second trimester when doctors told her she had an aggressive form of liver cancer and had just months to live. But she says doctors at the Brooke Army Medical center in san antonio did not give up and treated her with an experimental form of radiation that didnt pose a risk to her baby. Ruiz rojo gave birth to her baby, luke, in january, and says the treatment has given her six months to spend with her son. Today, malaysias transport minister held a press briefing in kuala lumpur, updating the latest on the crash of flight 17. Ktvus cara lui joins us now with the story. Reporter well, mike, the transport minister said the violence must stop, that it is inhumane to shoot down a commercial aircraft. He shared his fears that the crash site and evidence are not being properly preserved. People are also mourning the loss of dutch scientist and world renowned aids researcher joep lange, one of the many passengers headed to this weekends International Aids Conference in australia. A ucsf professor says lange helped develop protocols for treating aids in the early 1980s. A lot of our discussion was with joep, physicians, and nurses in the room to really talk through, yeah, im afraid, too, and it is scary, and heres what we have to do. He also says lange was also instrumental in getting researchers to focus on aids victims in africa. The aids researchers who died in the tragedy will be remembered at this weekends aids walk in San Francisco. The walk is set to start tomorrow morning at 10 30 at sharon meadow and golden gate park. Organizers say they plan to acknowledge the victims at several points during the walk. Money raised during the event will help to fund aids services in the bay area. Well, first it was bart, then muni, now another Bay Area Transit Agency has struck a deal with workers. Sam trans has agreed to give bus drivers, maintenance workers and Customer Service representatives a 9 Salary Increase over three years. The deal is retroactive to last sunday. Sam trans says additional money from San Mateo County will help pay for the increase. Sam trans drivers earn up to 59,000 a year. Mechanics, 75,000. The city of oakland has thrown another curveball at the as. The chronicle reports that the city has again altered a proposed 10year lease to keep the team at the coliseum. The as are now reviewing the changes, some of which the City Council Approved on wednesday. But the paper reports the oakland City Attorney added other revisions, which risk upsetting the as. However, an attorney for the Oakland Alameda county Coliseum Authority predicts the city and the as will settle their differences this weekend. Investigators are looking into why a car ended up on the Railroad Tracks last night in south San Francisco. A cal trains slammed right into that car just before 10 00 p. M. It happened between the south San Francisco and bayshore stations. The car was mangled, as you can see here, and had to be towed off the tracks. There were no reports of any injuries, but there were train delays as workers cleared that area. Palo alto police are searching for a man accused of taking cell phone pictures of women in a womens bathroom. The incident happened thursday night at the coverly Community Center on middlefield road. Police say a woman in her 20s noticed a man taking pictures under that divider separating the stall next to her. He ran away when she started yelling. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact palo alto police. New evacuations are under way in Central Washington state, as hot and dry conditions continue to fuel a Massive Wildfire there. Close to 100 homes have burned after the fire swept through the town of pateros. The mayor of the town says the fire reduced the town to rubble, burning her home and the relatives of family and friends. My mom lost her home. My uncle lost his home. Two of my best friends up at alta lake lost their homes. We lost everything. 202,000 acres have burned. The fire is zero percent contained. San Francisco Police have made an arrest in a deadly stabbing in the tenderloin. That crime happened around 6 15 yesterday morning at gary and polk. Police say the suspect and the victim got into some sort of argument in a hotel room before the stabbing. The victim was transported to the hospital, but did not survive. Police say they arrested this woman here, 30yearold lisa hang. She has been booked into the San Francisco county jail on homicide charges. San Francisco Police also say they arrested a woman who stole money from an 8yearold girl selling candy. 46yearold Ladonna Christian is booked on charges of robbery, felony assault, and willful cruelty to a child. Officers credit Surveillance Video like this one here at a Convenience Store for helping identify and catch christian. The 8yearold girl was selling candy monday afternoon. Investigators say christian asked the girl to make change and then twisted her arm, causing the girl to drop her money bag. Christian then jumped right onto a muni bus. There are concerns that the construction of new homes on Treasure Island could mean more gridlock to the bay bridge. Right now, about 2000 people live on the island, but there are plans to add 8000 new homes, along with new commercial and office space. According to the San Francisco chronicle, more muni, ac transit, and Ferry Service will be added to ease the potential Traffic Congestion and new bay bridge on and off ramps to and from the island are also under construction. Six people were arrested in san jose during a targeted patrol of a homeless camp. The arrests were made in an area known as the jungle. As many as 175 people call the 65 acres bordering coyote creek home on any given night. According to the San Jose Mercury news, most of the arrests were for outstanding warrants related to trespassing and other nonviolent offenses. Governor jerry brown has signed two new gun control bills into law. One law closes a loophole that allowed gun dealers to sell some semi automatic handguns without safety features. A second law requires courts to notify the state department of justice within one day when someone can no longer legally own a firearm due to a criminal conviction or mental illness. The bills are among several pieces of legislation introduced in the wake of recent gun violence, including a shooting rampage near uc Santa Barbara. Both laws take effect january 1st. That is why police say last fall they assigned four officers to help clean up the park. Most people in the community are really, really good people. So its a matter of bringing those people together and saying to that other element, were not going to tolerate this here. This is the park, for the kids. The Police Department has officers patrolling the park now seven days a week. Neighbors say crime there has lowered since having those officers there on site. Sierra sanderson said she wore her pump during a portion of the competition to help show her support of others also living with diabetes. So we have low pressure off the Southern California coastline and the counterclockwise rotation around that sort of bringing on that southerly flow. You can see it here. Ridge of High Pressure remains over areas of the four corners and the arizona area and the clockwise motion around that bringing in that monsoonal moisture. As you look close enough, you can actually see how it sort of filters our way. So is the sierra has had thunderstorms almost the entire week. We saw that humidity sort of drop off, but it will be back. You can see these low clouds are already moving into southern and Central California and will be next. In fact, im seeing a few of those high clouds already over parts of the inner east bay, where we have mostly sunny skies this morning. Also, for the sierra, a Flash Flood Watch. So for south tahoe, as well as north tahoe, if youll be spending the weekend here, this lasts until about 9 00. But the models are bringing thunderstorms to the sierra all the way through sunday. So im thinking if youre going to be there for the weekend, chances are that will continue as well. Let me show you what i mean here for you. Saturday afternoon, notice the clouds coming into the bay area. Notice the scattered showers over the sierra, the possibility of thunderstorms. At a News Conference this morning, the minister said there are indications that vital evidence has not been preserved at the site. He says he will fly to the ukraine capital today to make sure an Investigation Team can get safe access to the site. All 298 people on board were killed. One passenger born in new jersey is quinn lucas schansman, a 19yearold with dual american and dutch citizenship. According to online profiles, his father, thomas schansman, once worked in san mateo. The person killed was a 30year old woman, the wife of one of the passengers. Two more victims are in the hospital, with critical injuries. A man suspected of preying on elderly people in San Francisco is under arrest. Police say 57yearold german woods robbed elderly people in chinatown and japantown since april. He faces multiple charges of robbery, burglary, and elder abuse. Investigators believe there are more victims who were afraid to come forward. Californias Unemployment Rate is at its lowest in seven years. New statewide numbers show the states Unemployment Rate dropped from 7. 6 in may to 7. 4 in june. Typically, the bay area outpaces the rest of the state in job growth, but in june, all nine bay area counties saw slight increases in unemployment. Marin county has the lowest rate of unemployment at 4 . Solano county has the highest, at 6. 7 . A number of job centers like this one in concord are reporting that fewer people are showing up to search for work. People who work at the job centers say thats a good sign and that things are getting better. The director at the Concord Center says its a real boom job market right now. Some of the job seekers we spoke to say they are optimistic and think they can find a job soon. Ive had more interviews in the past six months than i had in the whole year and a half that i was off before. I do think that i have a job thats out there for me. I just havent found it yet. A high profile investigator will oversea the sale and closure of 85 campuses owned by Corinthian Colleges including five in the bay area. Patrick fitzgerald has been appointed to monitor the process. He is known for investigating the former illinois governor Rod Blagojevich and for investigating the outing of cia spy valerie plame. Corinthians five bay area locations include four branches of Heald College in concord, san jose, heyward, and San Francisco. The fifth location is a yo tech in fremont. Dozens of medical dispensaries and clubs in san jose could close. New zoning regulations went into effect yesterday that shut down close to 20 pot clubs in san jose. 50 additional clubs are waiting to hear if enough signatures have been gathered to put a measure challenging the zoning regulations on the november ballot. City leaders say the changes in zoning are necessary to keep dispensaries away from schools and cut down on marijuana related crime. Opponents say the changes will make it harder for patients to obtain medical marijuana. For the first time in four years, the Oakland Fire Department received more than two dozen new firefighters. The 25 new recruits marched right into city hall, where they were officially sworn in as oakland firefighters yesterday. These new recruits will help put the Fire Department on track toward its staffing goal. Everybody here wanted to be a part of oakland specifically. And for myself, it was a big deal because i know how bad oakland needed firefighters. In recent years, the city has struggled with a shortage of both Police Officers and firefighters. Investigators believe that fourth person drove this car that dropped off the three robbers at the bank of the west branch. The car was located last night just a few miles from the bank. Police say it appears the four door Buick Century had been spray painted. After the robbery, one hostage was killed during that massive shootout. Misty holtsing was a mother of two. Her family talked about their heartbreaking loss, and as ktvus Maureen Naylor reports, they also asked everyone to pray for the families of the bank robbers. Reporter in stockton, the grieving families stood together, but without the woman who they call the heart of their family. What happened to misty is a nightmare. Reporter misty holtsing was simply withdrawing money when three robbers took her hostage on wednesday, along with two bank employees. Sings 19yearold son and 12 yearold daughter recalled her as a caring and loving mother, who always put her family first. I wake up and im hoping that its a dream and that my moms going to be there. But shes not. Reporter her daughter was waiting inside the car when sing went into the bank and was taken hostage. I just want to thank everyone who has been there. It means a lot. And i love you, mom. And know she was a very loving mother, sister, daughter. Reporter sings sister then asked for prayers for the families of two suspects who were also killed. We do need to give that family, those families respect, because they have lost someone they love, too. Reporter it is still unclear who fired the fatal shot that killed the mother of two. The sing family asks for the publics help to obtain any videos such as this one that captured the dramatic shootout and could help explain the sequence of events. The family clearly needs answers. I think the community would like answers as to how this incident could happen. An oakland attorney will represent the woman who was videotaped getting beaten by a Highway Patrol officer. Video of the july 1st incident went viral. 51yearold marlene pinnic was seen walking on interstate 10 in los angeles. The chp says the officer you see there tried to restrain her, to protect her and other drivers on the road. Oakland Attorney John Burriss will now file a civil lawsuit against the Highway Patrol. He says pinnic suffers from mental problems and should have been treated differently. We want officers to understand that you dont get to treat people in a negative way just because of the status that they may have or how they may look or what their backgrounds are. The lawsuit accuses the chp officer of excessive force, assault and battery and violating the womans rights. The suit seeks monetary damages and a change in Law Enforcement policy. A terminally ill woman in texas has given birth to a healthy baby boy, thanks to a revolutionary new treatment. The mother was in her second trimester when doctors told her she had an aggressive form of liver cancer and had just months to live. But she said doctors at the Brooke Army Medical center in san antonio did not give up and treated her with an experimental form of radiation that didnt pose a risk to her baby. Ruise rojo gave birth to her son luke in january and says the treatment has given her six months to spend with her son. The discussion became clear, what can we do to preserve the pregnancy and give this person the most time she can possibly have . I just thought that god sent me this and im going to stick through it. Ruise rojo is in hospice care with her family in california. She is planning a celebration this weekend to mark six months since giving birth to her miracle baby. The white house says a surge of children caught trying to cross the border without their parents appears to be slowing. The Border Patrol reported 500 children and teenagers trying to cross the border in south texas this week. That is down from 2000 child immigrants a month ago. More than 57,000 children traveling alone have been caught crossing the Mexican Border since october 1st. Contra costa county has been awarded a grant of more than 1. 2 million to expand head start. The grant will help restore funding that was lost during last years government shutdown. Head start Officials Say the funds will be used to provide services to more than 1800 children at 27 centers throughout the county. The program will also be extended from 26 weeks to 30 weeks a year. Cara has the story. The transport minister said the violence must stop, that it is inhuman to shoot down a commercial aircraft. He also said the country is deeply concerned the crash site has not been properly preserved. He added that the jetliner flew on a flight path set by intersparbl aviation authorities and International Aviation authorities. Investigators are still trying to get to the crash scit in ukraine to find out what happened. He said any action that interferes with us learning the truth about what happened cannot be tolerated. We need to retrieve human remains as fast as we can. Thats why we immediately dispatched the team there. They reached there early this morning. Investigators are trying to figure out how a car ended up on the Railroad Tracks last night in south San Francisco. A caltrain slammed into the car just before 10 00 p. M. But there were train delays as workers cleared the area. Palo alto police are searching for a man accused of taking cell phone pictures in a womans bathroom. The incident happened thursday night at the Community Center on middlefield road. Police say a woman in her 20s noticed a man a man taking pictures. He ran away as she started to yell. The lawsuit accuses the officer of excessive force, assault, battery, violating her rights. A ter malnily ill terminally ill woman in texas has given birth to a healthy boy. She was in her second trimester when doctors told her she had an aggressive form of liver cancer with months to live.
