We had a couple 40s. It will be a day where temperatures are staying below average. Gusts 42. 20s plus for concord. Also oakland. Thats not stopped it all morning long. Thats the low right there. Digging into the inner mountain region, the back side of that brings us a cooler and breezy to windy pattern. Some morning low clouds. It will be sunny. 70s in areas that should be in the low to mid80s. 60s, coast and bay. Heres sal. Were still looking good when it comes to the morning commute. I want to show you some things as we start off with the bay bridge. Its backed for a 30minute drive time into San Francisco. I cant say thats too out out out of the ordinary. Also looking at the commute here on the the san mateo bridge, thats getting crowded as well. About a 15minute drive time from the toll plaza to foster city. 580 westbound slow in livermore and part of dublin and pleasanton. It gets better by the time you reach pleasonton. 680 is slow. 101 is the slowest freeway in the south bay. 85 is slowing down approaching 17. Back to the desk. Thank you, sal. This morning, marin county firefighters are investigating whether two fires in three days are the work of an arsonist. This video is of a fire that started yesterday afternoon in marinwood along highway 101. There is a lot of concern from residents in marin county, not only because of who is starting the fires. If you take a look behind me, you can see a lot of dry brush. Weve seen this all over the brush in the bay area. We were in livermore three weeks ago, you saw the dry brush. It extended up here. Thats the fuel lighting some fires. This one started on the 200 block of johnsstone in san rafael. Yesterdays fire is the second in the past three days. This one started around 11 00 in the morning, burned about four acres along highway 101 yesterday afternoon near a bike path. The fire spread up and over a hill behind homes on the 200 block of johnsstone drive. Firefighters say they are not calling this arson but do say the fire appears suspicious. Fridays fire is being deemed arson. That fire began around noon on friday near a Mobile Home Park in terra linda. It forced the evacuation of a hundred homes. It burned two decks and the siding of the home. It burned 16 acres. Investigators believe its arson because the fire appears to have been started in multiple places. This morning with the threat of arson and the dry conditions. Firefighters say people need to prepare their homes for the fire season. If something doesnt look right, be sure to call. You can call 911 to report. If something looks out of the ordinary and theres something that doesnt look right in the open space or in an area that given given the conditions that we have, wed ask anybody to be vigilant and let us know. What do you do . You are helpless at that point. It was nice to see that everybody was on top of it. We knew there there would be a pretty fast response. Reporter pretty heavy response as well. On thursday, there was another fire at a park. That fire burned 10, 15 acres. As we take it back out here live, you can see how close the homes were near the hillside. The best advice to clear out any dry brush around the home. And they say this is a wakeup call to what is expected to be a very busy fire season. Back to you. Thank you. Firefighters in kern county are racing against the clock to get control of a large fire before the weather gets hotter later this week. The shirley fire is burning in the Sequoia National forest. Over the weekend, Sheriff Deputies ordered the evacuation of 500 homes. The red cross has opened an evacuation shelter at lake isabella. Several roads in the area are closed but the Forest Service says most tourist destinations are still open. However, park visitors say they are on edge and are prepared to leave at a moments notice. It has burned 2200 acres and is just 10 contained, almost 300 firefighters are working to put out the flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 7 07. A major computer problem last night at target Stores Nationwide caused long lines and a lot of frustration for customers. But the company says it has resolved any issues related to checkout. Target experienced a computer glitch that shut down registers for several hours yesterday leaves customers frustrated. Some of them took twitter to talk about what they were experiencing. According to shoppers, employees were scrambling to come up with a better solution. Many customers reported not being able to use their credit and debit cards. But at some point, the store was able to accept just cash. She was rebooting the register she was on. And then she went to the register behind me. She was literally bouncing between registers trying to get the people out. Ended up telling us there was a problem with the system. Reporter target apologized for any inconvenience and said it was able to restore the registers e eventually. They also said it was not related to security. An investigation goes on on the stanford campus after a student was found dead hours after graduation ceremonies. The mans body was found yesterday afternoon in a campus residential building on mayfield avenue. Now, according to the stanford daily newspaper, School Officials say he was a senior. Santa clara county sheriffs investigators havent identified him yet but they say the cause of his death is not clear. However, School Officials say theres no threat to public safety. Many people in San Francisco demanding extra traffic signs and flashing lights for an intersection where a homeless man was killed over the weekend. It happened early yesterday morning at the fifth street offramp of interstate 80. The chp says a drunk driver went too fast around a sharp curve, crashed right through a guardrail and plowed through a homeless encampment. A man sleeping in a tent was killed. Looked out, helped them, gave money if they needed it. The people who live in the area say this isnt the first time a car has crashed in that samier karnment. The same enkarnment. The 27yearold driver not hurt was booked on dui charges. Controversy is brewing over a bathroom cleaning punishment at a berkeley Elementary School. The mother of an 11yearold student said her son was forced to clean the bathrooms at the Elementary School after an alleged bullying incident. The mother claims the school never notified her that her son got in trouble and shes especially upset because the boy came down with whooping cough after the punishment. School officials told the paper, its not unusual for schools to use cleaning duties as the form of punishment. They also add the student did not do any scrubbing. We know that they dont have a 7 00 ferry run into San Francisco. Theres word that they were going to have a bus bridge instead, buses from vallejo to the ferry terminal. But there have been some reports that those buses did not show up. That would be really tough for those commuters who rely on that form of transportation. Were trying to find out more about this. Lets take a look at westbound bay bridge coming up to the macarthur maze. Traffic is backed up there. 25 to 30minute delay. You would think about using the san mateo bridge. Not a bad alternate. Its about a 15minute drive across the san mateo bridge. Only applies if you are in the middle of taking the two. You shouldnt drive too far out of your way to go to the san mateo. Right now the traffic heading down to hayward looks good on 880. Northbound traffic looking good past the coliseum. 580 will be slow through livermore and most of pleasanton. New this morning firefighters in San Francisco searching for the cause of an overnight fire that damaged three homes forcing some people out into the street. Christien kafton is live in San Francisco and you just talked to a neighbor who says a lot of people jumped in to help the families. Reporter thats the one good piece of news, the neighbors pulled together to try to help out in this terrible situation. You talked about the fire investigation. We can tell you that the fire investigators were here. You can see how heavy the fire damage is between the two buildings. When we first arrived, the red cross was on the scene. They said in all three families were displayed by the displaced by the fire. They are all shaken up to varying degrees. They are going through that. Obviously, its very mentally traumatic. All longterm residents. They are worried first about family members and pets and so forth. Reporter heres what firefighters are telling us that this fire started shortly after midnight. Investigators say they believe it started outside of 384 ellington on the second floor, then spread to the neighboring building. Weve learned that one person was treated here at the scene for an unknown injury in connection with this fire. Again, those two buildings involved but three units in all. Three different families affected. In the last halfhour, i spoke to the neighbor who was out here. He tells me that the whole neighborhood helped me pull together to help the families living here. They were helping each other get the pets out. I think the only thing missing was a cat. One neighbor got her dog out but was still looking for a cat last night. Im just glad nobody got hurt. Reporter back out here live, you can see how intense this fire was burning right through the roof of one of the buildings here at 398 ellington. And, again, the fire investigator really centered on this space here between those two buildings. At this point, firefighters are not saying its suspicious but they are saying due to the time, the fact it happened after midnight on that second floor area, it does bear further investigation. Kenya has experienced a wave of gun and explosive attacks recently blamed on the somali militant group, alshabaab. A motorcycle officer in rio is being accused of what appeared to be live pistol rounds into antiworld cup protesters. It happened yesterday near the americana soccer stadium, shortly before the match. Officials say another plain clothes officer also pulled out at pistol and fired two shots into the air. Officials say officers were hit by molotov cocktails thrown by protesters. The protesters are upset over the roughly 11 billion spent by the government to host the world cup games. The u. S. Police say a 53yearold man was fishing with his friends at the Dow Wetlands Preserve when his line became tangled. At this point, police have not told us the name of the victim. You can see the big backup there on berryessa where cars are being detoured. This is an industrial area. The commuters use it to get to work. They take this route to get to 101. You know, a big rig was involved in this accident. You can see it there in the middle of berryessa. Theres still also a body in the middle of the road. Just after 7 00 this morning, emergency crews responded to berryessa after a big rig and a man riding a harley collided. The motorcyclist died at the scene. People who work in the area say they heard the crash and right now, police are talking to them. They are talking to, again, witnesses, the driver of the big rig, were still waiting to hear if hes okay. Were unsure if alcohol is related or what led up to the accident happening. We do know that vta bus service has been rerouted. Because of the way this looks back out here live, it appears the scene will be here for several hours. If you look at the size of that big rig. Again, there is they are they are still waiting to have investigators come out here and complete their investigation. We dont know the identity of the driver or if hes from san jose. All right, janine. 8 04. Firefighters in san rafael on alert after two suspicious fires in just three days. The latest one happened ahong highway 101 in the marinwood area. Brian flores is joining us live in san rafael. What are firefighters saying now, brian . Reporter the chef tells me that the fire that burned yesterday along the hillside on the 200 block of johnstone, still considered suspicious. Not yet arson. But as you can see, regardless, the fire did come close to homes here. The fire started on a hillside near the 200 block of johnstone drive around 11 00 yesterday morning. This bike path goes along the southbound side of highway 101. The fire overall burned about five acres. Thanks to a heavy response by fire agencies, the fire was only burned to dry brush. This morning, fire officials are continuing to investigate. One of the things they will be looking at are reports of a vehicle that was stopped or stalled along the side of the freeway around the time of the fire. No question this was scary for many homeowners. We spoke to someone who tried to make it home. This is probably one of the scariest moments. My son was home alone and asleep at the time. He has a soundproof room for hiss business. They couldnt his business. They couldnt wake him up. That was one of the scariest moments. Reporter another fire on friday is considered suspicious on a hillside behind a Mobile Home Park in terra linda. It did force the evacuation of 100 homes. It burned two decks and a siding a home. That was the extent of the damage. That fire burned about 16 acres. There was a pretty heavy response there including the aid of helicopters. Investigators believe its arson because the fire appears to have been started in multiple places. Speaking to many residents out here live, they say theres been several fires in the past years here but they are glad that the heavy response from firefighters yesterday and firefighters say the best advice is to clear brush away from your home and they also say this is a wakeup call to what it is expected to be a very busy fire season. Firefighters in kern county, they are racing the clock trying to control a big fire in the Sequoia National forest before the weather gets hot et later this week. Its hottest later this weekend. Its called the shir little fire. They evacuated 500 homes. The red cross opened an Evacuation Center at lake isabella. Park visitors are nervous. They are ready to leave at a moments notice. Weve talked about what we would grab and actually i put all of my stuff back in the truck just in case. That fire started around 7 00 friday night. It has burned 2200 acres. Its only 10 contained. Almost 300 firefighters are out there fighting the flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Another Investigation Continues into a shootout near a Nevada County campground that injured two Police Officers and a suspect. Investigators say saturday afternoon, a bureau of Land Management ranger called for help in the Tahoe National forest. A chp officer rushed over. They came across a man who had a gun and there was a shootout. Both the ranger and that suspect were hit. The chp officer was not hurt was also hurt but were not hour how he was hurt sure how he was hurt. None of the injuries are life threatening. Three people, including a firefighter, are recovering after a home burst into flames on rockaway drive and alum rock avenue. The fire started in the garage and quickly spread to the rest of the home. A family of four was able to escape but a firefighter and two of the people in the home suffered first and Second Degree burns. Its a sad situation but on a larger scale were happy they got out safely, that none of them were killed in the fire. Investigators say the fire was caused some by some type of cooking device left near combustible material. The red cross is helping the family. Target, hoping for a smoother day today after a lot of the customers were stuck in long lines last night. Target experienced a computer glitch, one that shut down cash registers for several hours. Tony gwynn has died at the age of 54 years old. He was one of the greatest hitters ever in baseball. It was inducted into the hall of fame in 2007. Go win was recently given a one Year Contract extension as the baseball coach at san diego state. That was on june 11th. But he had he had been on medical leave. Hes been treated for mouth cancer since late march, has been through at least two surgeries. But again, Major League Baseball confirming.
